#2851 Exciting Half Wavy Half Straight Swipe Poured Fluid Acrylics Artwork With Rain-X -5.25.18
This is a 16"x 20" canvas. All the paints I use are acrylic paints mixed with additives to help them flow more easily. All my colors are stored and mixed in squeeze bottles for ease of use. I have applied colorful stripes with my squeeze bottles in a zig-zag pattern. My swipe tool is a damp cotton rag made from a tee shirt hem. I dip it into a heavy layer of black at one end of the canvas and let it become saturated where the hem is. I drag the swipe cloth from one end over the colorful stripes. Halfway through the swipe, I wave the swipe tool to create a wavy pattern. I used a bamboo skewer to add spirals and agitate the paint. Finally, one single spritz of RainX creates lots of tiny cells(not shown in this video).
My "pouring" mixture is 3/4 Floetrol with 1/4 (estimated) GAC800 from "Golden" (prevents cracking and adds shine to dry artwork.)mix into it thoroughly. Depending on the paint the amounts of color can vary. I like to begin with half pouring mixture and half color. After that is mixed VERY thoroughly I add more pouring mixture until the viscosity (thickness) is like warm hone. If I want it thinner I add more Pouring mixture. If the color is not strong enough I add more pigment.
When mixing colors my amounts are always estimated and then altered to get the right consistency I like. I use plastic squeeze bottles with measurements on the side.
I add a marble size steel ball bearing to aid in the mixing process. Marbles work well too but exercise caution if you end up with more than one they will shatter in the mixture eventually. It's imperative (Important) that all mixture be shaken thoroughly once before using in any session the first every time! The consistency is usually medium "body" weight, but other weights are usable with minor adjustments.
All my acrylic paints are mixed in advance and contained and stored in squeeze bottles. If you are not using squeeze bottles, I suggest using a container that has a tight-fitting lid or seal the container with Glad sticky wrap. I have often used the 4oz size plastic deli containers, and the paint keeps for a long time in them, but you must stir before using the mix again. Floetrol and other flow agents will rise to the top between uses. None of my acrylic paint has any added silicone. To create the pearlescent effects seen in most of my artworks, I use "Golden's" Iridescent pearl "Fine" added to colors. I add a good squirt directly into whatever I am mixing in. I recommend experimenting to find out how much is enough for your ideal shimmer.
Every day I learn new things. I will never stop experimenting, and I am happy to share what I discover with you.

My daughter and I watched this together and just loved watching this transform! She and I both think it looks like a beautiful waterfall! Also, you showed her how a small mistake won't ruin a painting...even make it better! (Something she is having trouble with)

I really took something similar from this... how there's so much beauty and art in imperfections... I'd feel too pressured at doing my zigzags wrong! Art would probably be really good for me, thinking about it 🤔

Well... that was FUN!! Love your nonchalant, 'comme ci, comme ca', approach to your pour. And the phrase 'comme ci, comme ca'---- I'm 71...& haven't used that phrase since 1964 in high school French class. ...but, it 1000% fits your energy!! ...hmmm... and nonplussed...---not disconcerted,... not perturbed... OMG... heeeeheeeee!! Love your style, Girl!! ...easy going, a ready laugh, fearlessly playing in paint!!! Bless you, Priscilla!! I think, after watching this, I can tell my fears & inhibitions to take a hike!! Thank you for sharing!!

I watch so many of your videos again and again. As I learn more from you through time, I find that your older videos are truly more valuable each time I watch. I may think I understand the first time, but with each time I watch, I have an understanding I didn't before. This one is a classic, of course. And two plus years later, you still have the same favorite color!

I've come back to watch a ''Priscilla classic''. This is just so beautiful, I really have to try this. There are some pieces of yours that stick in my mind and this is one of them, such beauty in the colours and the waves, this could be a garden too, if you look at it with the black band at the top. It's rainbow flowers at the edge of a fairy pond. Your work brings me so much joy. x

That's so interesting. When I was in elementary school - I'm 70 - we used to use crayons to color a whole page of paper in different colors then go over the whole thing with black paint. After it dried we drew a picture with something like a tooth pick or something so the colors popped through.

Thank you .The paint mixture recipe is usually under the video and in my book too ( on the Amazon link under show more under the video)I know people with little experience who followed all the steps shown in the video and got great results.Tools are something to spread the paint and a straw to blow the furrows and a bamboo skewer to waggle wavy lines and spirals .The money is in buying all the paints and after you get addicted then of course you want more tools to play with but many can be scavenged for little or no money.

I don't know if you noticed the effect, but when you turn it so that the wavy part is at the bottom, it looks 3D, as if the wavy part were a horizontal seat / surface, while the rest is a vertical surface. I haven’t painted in so long... the other morning my husband told me he had been looking at my paintings while I was still asleep and wishes I would start painting again! This is the first tutorial I’ve seen in a long time and you have really inspired me... the juices are starting to flow... soon also will be paint! I’ve never used a blow torch before. Is that for affect... the way you can manipulate the paint? Or just enough so the colors don’t totally run together? A little blow torch education needed please? Thanks again SO MUCH for the inspiration! You’re amazing!

    • @efluidartstudiopriscillab
      @efluidartstudiopriscillab  6 років тому +4

Thank you .The torch does help set the paint yes but that's not the conventional thinking. The torch is meant as a utility tool tha always pops the air bubbles that will ruin the look of a painting when its dry.But in the beginning a quick hit and Torch can add some reaction to the colors that are together and allow patterns to form ."cells " If your careful you can tip the canvas many ways to enlarge and spred the cell patterns .But too much and they disappear .If I gently torch ( because the art is Flamable and you can "cook" it too...Baaaad) when I have just begun I will sometimes get cells ...But if you become one of the millions who add a spritz or a drop or two of silicone spray or oil .The patterns can be wild .but everybodys doing it and it all becomes a bit the same lately for me ...Check my other playlists for other pouring artist who inspired me when I started to learn.Best way to go ....watch 20-30 videos and go to it!!Oh and a special tip...skip trying to make the butane torches work and skip ahead and spend the money on the 50.00 "Art Resin websites torch head. The gas is 5.00 and last forever ...I went through 5 butane torches all configurations and prices and not one would keep working after a bit even when I did all the prescribed tricks... I wasted like 80 .00

That line you made just left of center...where you came up over the top of the zig-zag... made it look like a waterfall... gave that spot motion....

Oh my Goddess! I'm in love!! It's stunning!! Reminds me of the toys I had as a kid. Where it's got thick black liquid over the top of lots of rainbow colours & you kinda scrape the black away to create a picture & you can do it over & over. Hope you know the one I mean? Haha I could watch you for hours! You seem so much fun! Love from the UK x

@Miss EmJay, Oh my gosh, I know what you're talking about!!! 😂🤣I LOVED THOSE too!! They're like a waxy-black surface & you scratch it with your finger or something sharp, & underneath is a myriad of colors, such as the SAME ones we see in her painting!!! Super cool. Thx for triggering my memory!!:):):)
