It's magical how he he turned bossa novas, tangos, etc, into absolute pop masterpieces...But then again, a great song is a great song...He just walked the usual road in reverse....Normally pop stars write pop songs, then arrange them differently..Well, actually, he did that too...
You just made me a tad weepy with that post, WL24!! I hope that you're faring well some 9 years later, my friend...cheers & best wishes from sunny 'Down Under'...Matt.
To My Rosie...I never believed in magic or love of that matter in the years that has passed in the last 37 years...then one day we reconnected...Not Only Did I Find Love Again...Everything You Do IS MAGIC...I Love You Rose...
This version brings out the meaning of the song very well. It's a pretty sad, depressing song. The 1981 version is very upbeat which somewhat diminishes the emotions which was intended to be conveyed.
For those who want to get a hard copy of this beautiful version, you can try and purchase The Police Strontium 90 cd which it is on. Also there is a 1996 acoustic version by Sting on UA-cam almost the same.
Found on Wikipedia (so take it or leave it): An album with some of these studio and live tracks (with the first recorded version of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic") was released 20 years later in 1997under the name Strontium 90: Police Academy. The foursome also performed at a London club as "The Elevators" in July 1977. First time ever hearing this version. I love the Police version but this one gives it a haunting tone, which is like adding salt to something; different but still good.
They play this on the XM Coffee House channel. I looked up the song and literally hundreds of videos popped up. Somehow I hit this one FIRST ! Just the one I was looking for !
He did a similar version on The Howard Stern Show many years back, except he extended the line that ends "Now I know my love for her goes on" to "Now I know my love for her goes on and on and on and on and on." His wife was present when he sang it.
Heard this version for the first time a few mornings ago : ) Ahh...it's like dancing slowly across an empty Floridian beach as the sun goes down. It just has that kind of vibe :3
I just spent an hour trying to hunt down this version of this song. It was only a vague, marijuana clouded memory from college. I couldn't even remember which song it was. Finally finding it is wonderful and a relief. Such a haunting rendition of this song. So much better than the rather over-produced album version.
Eh I think both songs have their good qualities. You can definitely feel the emotion much more in this song, and the chord changes and melody are incredible here. The piano, and use of steel drums in the eventually released version though add a nice, bouncy touch to the song that made the song a hit and got the Police noticed. If that hadn't happened, we might not have heard this gem in the first place.
+MichaelEconLauck I absolutely agree. I prefer the demo, but if they hadn't had this and a few other masterpieces on this demo, they may have just been a bar band and never a major name. And if you already recorded it like this, why do it again the same way? Plus, I personally love the piano intro and feel like it's almost at an Elton John level of recognition even in the first few seconds.
Quality - and the video of the single is one of the most joyous you'll ever see. Full of happy people having a great time, doing what they love. You can't beat it (and Sting has a Beat T shirt on. Happy days.
I heard an interview with Stewart Copeland saying that the original demo was good enough to put on the radio, I think he’s right, I like this version better in a way, it’s probably the only police hit I don’t love, but this calm version is cool
It was a side project with Mike Howlett of the prog-rock band Gong and Andy Summers and Sting. Chris Cutler form Gong was going to play drums but was unavailable, so sting brought in Stewart who he was already playing with in the Police. Original Police guitar player Henry Padovini wasn't working out so after these sessions he asked Andy to join the Police. the rest is history.
Came here after Rick Beato‘s interview (sorry: conversation) with Stewart Copeland. I now understand the Police’s problem: this already is a perfect song and I prefer it to the official version with the contributions by Stuart and Andy.
Sting reworked Stephen Bishop's "On and On." Same year too. Sting did admit to noticing that in some of his songs - hijacking from other artists' songs - sometimes even after having the song mostly or completely finished. I wonder if he or Stephen noticed this.
My girl is a magic . Though I've tried before to tell her Of the feelings I have for her in my heart Every time that I come near her I just lose my nerve As I've done from the start Every little thing she does is magic Everything she do just turns me on Even though my life before was tragic Now I know my love for her goes on Do I have to tell the story Of a thousand rainy days since we first met It's a big enough umbrella But it's always me that ends up getting wet Every little thing she does is magic Everything she do just turns me on Even though my life before was tragic Now I know my love for her goes on I resolve to call her up a thousand times a day And ask her if she'll marry me in some old fashioned way But my silent fears have gripped me Long before I reach the phone Long before my tongue has tripped me Must I always be alone? Every little thing she does is magic Everything she do just turns me on Even though my life before was tragic Now I know my love for her goes on [Every little thing she does is magic Everything she do just turns me on Even though my life before was tragic Now I know my love for her goes on Every little thing Every little thing Every little thing Every little thing Every little Every little Every little Every little thing she does Every little thing she does Every little thing she does Every little thing she does Thing she does is magic Every little thing Every little thing Every little thing she does is magic magic magic Magic magic magic Every little thing she does is magic Everything she do just turns me on Even though my life before was tragic Now I know my love for her goes on
I do agree this is an acoustic beatiful version from Sting when is was "solo"... and the voice is an "actual"voice".....but this version...is beatiful...
off Strontium 90 cd thanks for posting my acoustic cover of this classic demo - only song I listen to on the S90 album lol! I think I prefer this to the Ghost in the Machine version, curiously
wow, interesting demo, thanks for the upload, can't say i have ever heard this song, this way, i am kinda glad they changed it up, imo, it works better upbeat, and not as a slow song, but oh well
This is not a demo, this is a full song that was recorded for a side project by former Gong musician Mike Howlett on his album 'Strontium 90 : Police Academy' which would reunite Sting, Stuart Copelam and the future Police, Andy Summers.
i love youtube and gema too. if we only heard the original stuff, it would be like mtv reruns forever. nicer to hear all these bootlegs and old live tv versions.
@sdremenke I like the original version, too. But this one is so special. Heard it for the first time tonight. It's a pitty he didn't play it like this on stage!
@ChimiChaCha27 true. with a proper cuban rhythm group behind him this would be a dancing dream. i loved the original overproduced hectic mtv version , but this version shows it's a very good song that stands up to the test of time. bravo señor sting.

He was doing jazz earlier and I wonder of this song was written a few years earlier before getting recorded?
this the last song i heard with my grandma & grandpa :( miss you so much
You just made me a tad weepy with that post, WL24!! I hope that you're faring well some 9 years later, my friend...cheers & best wishes from sunny 'Down Under'...Matt.
WOW. This is the first time I've heard this version, and I just sat there with my mouth open like a fish. This is stunning.
this version sounds SO GOOOOOOOD
To My Rosie...I never believed in magic or love of that matter in the years that has passed in the last 37 years...then one day we reconnected...Not Only Did I Find Love Again...Everything You Do IS MAGIC...I Love You Rose...
this demo sounds a hundred times better than half of the music we get to hear on the radio today! love his voice!
It's his voice that separates him from his peers. So unique.
This version brings out the meaning of the song very well. It's a pretty sad, depressing song. The 1981 version is very upbeat which somewhat diminishes the emotions which was intended to be conveyed.
This song will always be special to me.....so beautiful and heartfelt.
I love this version. Sting has a phenomenal voice
Sting's voice was much better here than now.
@@filmusikchannel7596 Most people's voices get worse after 46 years don't they ?
@@filmusikchannel7596 He's quite old now. His voice isn't too bad considering his age and length of activity.

Pretty good for a demo.
just found this. Certainly brings out the true meaning of the song.

Wow...beautiful

oh my days, this is so good, it makes me want to weep
in my opinion one of the most beautiful lovesongs to date, especially in that version...
He's already the King of Pain.

I prefer the 1981 version. Though I do hear merit in this original, I like the way the second version sounds, partially for the reasons you mentioned.
The studio lead-out is my fave part of the 1981 (ee-ohhhh...) but this was indeed hauntingly beautiful.

And the perfect drums I love in the 1981 version❣👏🏻

I've had a half memory of this song thru the fog of being stoned and hearing it 20 years ago, instantly brought me back
The more times I listen to this , the more I like it !! All good !!
Wow, now I love the song even more! This is so beautiful!
Its simply amazing, the acoustic version is great as well as the instrumental regardless pieces of music that are timeless!!

Grazie mille per questa inaspettata versione di un pezzo bellissimo...

Fab version, thank you for the post.
Love it!
so glad i finally figured this out on an acoustic. amazing song
This gives me goosebumps
Very nice version. A good song is a good song no matter the genre.
Wow, what a nice version... thanks for sharing...!!!
beatiful and amazing demo or acoustic version i think.
Oh my God. This is frickin awesome!

I still choke up a little bit. "On and on and on......"
wow incredible!
really great. makes me a police fan all over again.
Really cool version. 🎶
it was from 77 when stewart sting And andy first recorded together as Strontium 90 there was another guy with them to his name was mike howlett
Love this year for music.

Sting had this Gem in 77?
what an amazing talent. he wrote some incredible songs
this one and visions of the night were first 2 tracks he would try to release this song should be older of around 2 years, in the pocket
i want this to be my first song when i'm learning to play the guitar.
did you learn it ?

This b my song!!! "every little thing she does is magic......"
Simply, Wow!
the best version of it :)
It's acoustic, gets over the song much better & the amazing lyrics imo.
My girl is a magic .
Though I've tried before to tell her
Of the feelings I have for her in my heart
Every time that I come near her
I just lose my nerve
As I've done from the start
Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on
Do I have to tell the story
Of a thousand rainy days since we first met
It's a big enough umbrella
But it's always me that ends up getting wet
Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on
I resolve to call her up a thousand times a day
And ask her if she'll marry me in some old fashioned way
But my silent fears have gripped me
Long before I reach the phone
Long before my tongue has tripped me
Must I always be alone?
Every little thing she does is magic
Everything she do just turns me on
Even though my life before was tragic
Now I know my love for her goes on

@MegaOffender
Copeland is a master batterist but we must recognise that Sting is a great composer. Peace
Somebody has a tab for this version? I can't find any on the net and I'm not good enough to hear it out by myself :-/
Now I know that Sting does miss notes ^_^ or at least have those wiggly high notes. On a separate note, I FUCKING LOVE THIS VERSION
Why are we defunding The Police? They make good music!
Genius! Thank you. What a joyful laugh to start my day! 👏👏🤣😂

It is interesting that The Police waited until their 4th album to do this song.
Cool. Sort of a bossa nova feel. Thanks for uploading this.
"Bossa Nova..."🤔
Yeh❣👍🏻😄
Lots of Sting’s demos were in a bosanova style, inc Roxanne. That is until stewart & Andy did their stuff.
@@markcoomber8222 In the early 70's he was doing this type and perhaps this song was written and early as that time.
Sounds similar to the performance he did in 1996 with his guitar only. The vid is around in youtube.
