I was born in 1965 i was really young but i still have memories of me and my grandpa sitting on the porch together watching the trains.
What a very special memory that must be of being with your grandpa watching the trains. Appreciate your sharing the very nice story with us and for watching the show today my friend.
My grandfather worked on the "Willy Murphy" for 35 years, was the yardmaster during WW-II. Man did he have some old time railroading stories! Youngest memory I have is seeing him in the cab of a B&O loco over at the old (now long gone) Queen City station sometime back in the mid-50's.
Oh wow, I sure would have loved to spend some time with him Jeff! What a great video that would make of him sharing some of his stories. Appreciate your sharing that and for watching my friend.

I cycle this route every week. I only head to the tunnel because once I get there, I’m exhausted. Only one time I reached Frostburg because I was on a mission to finally do it. I also like when they have the bicycle cars where people pedal down the tracks. Once they reach cash valley, a cute little locomotive pulls the bikes back to Frostburg but sometimes they use a road truck instead if a train is in service on the track. On a side note: A “new” tank car was donated and now is among the other railcars at the Cumberland station.

Thank you Dave! When we were kids we hung out by the junction of the Milwaukee Road and the Chicago North Western. Right around the time we quit hanging out by the tracks is when we started seeing the first End Of Train contraptions. Also around that same time they put in welded rail on the Chicago North Western line. The trains no longer made the same sound, and they just didn't seem right without a caboose. Great memories though! I love seeing old train cars - especially cabooses!

WMSR has come a long way since first opening. 1309 is certainly a sight to behold and the depot restoration and the platforms really help the authenticity. The freight car collection is nice because it has somewhat obscure types of cars but represent the area well. In fact good old CRR 1072 sports my badge number at work for most of my career. Great video Dave and my wife and I are going there this summer for a much needed train ride! Such a beautiful railway station and the entire facility is definitely a work of art. Hope you guys had a great time there and look fwd to seeing your next video! Btw did you get my address when you asked me for it to send the reflective safety vest? Thanks again for sharing your videos and appreciate your time and effort to get the BEST FOOTAGE!
Thank you very much Shawn for the very nice comment. it is a good ride and you will enjoy it. Hope you can ride when 1309 is pulling tho. No sir I have not gotten an address from you. email me: kcexcavation@gmail.com
LOL, yep it gets in your blood and you can't get it out Robin! Railroad is the central preoccupation of my life along with my hobby when I get off work. Do appreciate your checking today's show out my friend.
Its nice to get away from the daily grind, and not worry about coal spills or dead engine batteries........its neat how theyve adapted the roller bearing axles to the friction bearing trucks.
Glad you enjoyed the show Paul. We do appreciate your writing in and watching my friend. Yep take a day off railroad and go ride another railroad....LOL But it was a very good day trip for us.
That's some pretty awesome history you have there! B&O was a great RR back in the day. Sure wish I could talk with your grandfather, I would be enthralled listening to him tell stories of his RR career.
Oh yea Zach, definite trip back to ride 1309. This is the second time we've ridden WMSR. An excellent day trip as it's only a little over an hour from us. Next video out will be some of our ride this day. Appreciate your checking the show out tonight my friend.
Reminds me of seeing B&O locomotives going behind my house when I was small. Always have loved railroads and seeing the many different freight cars roll by. This was during the merger between the C&O and B&O. I miss those days. I lived in Kentucky and the tracks through my hometown was shared between the 2 railroads.
That's pretty awesome Frank, but your showing your age....LOL I remember as a younger man seeing the Chessie around our place, loved that paint scheme. B & O had tracks into Cumberland Md. also here. Western Maryland was part of the merger you mentioned. Appreciate your checking out the video my good man.
I hope you can get a free cab ride in exchange for your excellent video! They've done a tremendous amount of work since we were last there, and you've done a great job showcasing their accomplishments. Can't wait to see your video Riding the Wild Mary Scenic RR!
Glad you enjoyed Dave and the ride will be next video out, then the one after will show turntable action at Frostburg. Gonna make another trip down there sometime to ride when 1309 is pulling.
Road that many times, first time in 1990 behind an old Canadian Pacific steam locomotive painted Allegheny Central. Amusing story, once with the WMRHS we rode the train and it stopped numerous times for run byes. When we got back to the hotel we were hot and sweaty and generally pretty dirty. We were carrying our cameras, tripods, and equipment waiting for the elevator. By coincidence there was a wedding going on at the same hotel. When the elevator door opened there stood the bride. With a shocked look on her face she said "you aren't the photographers are you"???????
Thanks for the story Jim, made me laugh, I can just see the expression on that bride's face! It is a nice ride here, sure would love to do it when 1309 is running. Appreciate your writing in and for watching the show my friend.
Some of those old Amtraks F40's came through here on their way down to PCRR (Panama Canal Rail Road). They were already overhauled, painted up and in tow, That was a few years ago though.
They have a nice building there I guess it was an important station at one time. I also found the ballast car interesting Never seen rollers used before
It is a very nice place. Western Maryland was once a very important RR around these parts. They had some really big steam locos to pull those heavy coal drags, including some Challenger and decapod locos. They merged with B & O and C & O to form the Chessie System, now part of CSX. Appreciate your watching today my friend.
Dave every time I watched your videos I was thinking of my home town, Cumberland, so now a little bit of history. The first train to ever run at night time left Cumberland in 1848 on its way to Baltimore, Maryland.
Glad you enjoyed the show Bill. We do appreciate your writing in and watching my friend. Next video out will be parts of our ride that day. It is a good ride. Gonna go back when 1300 is running sometime, that will be awesome.
Hey Dave !!! Thanks for the ride !!! Have you ever checked out the "" Allegany Portage "INCLINE RR "" West of Altoona on US 22 ?? Its a State Park that has the Stone ties & rails with a Documentary of the RR in the old depot station !! Quite Impressive to see how they made the ties !! Wear your hiking boots if you go there as you'll want to check out the grounds !!! Have a good week & Thanks again !!
No I have not K B. We went to Altoona couple years ago and saw Railroaders Museum and Horseshoe Curve, but just didn't have time to visit Portage. Appreciate your writing in and checking out the show my friend.
I have been there when I lived just south of there in Canaan Valley WV. After I retired from the Baltimore County fire dept.. they were working on that when we moved to Holland, Michigan they run a train like that down to Elkins, WV. In the summer
Your welcome Jim. this is a great place to visit and a very good scenic ride. When you get to Frostburg check out the Carriage Museum. Another place is Potomac Golden Eagle Scenic not far from Cumberland in Romney. They only give rides on weekends tho. Next video out will be some of our ride on WMSR.
Good stuff to see on this end. Maryland is one of those few states I've yet to step foot in. Nice! Sounds like that might have been one of those days where Cuyahoga needed some coffee or something. Humorous: Flashback to 1980. Stayed at a Holiday Inn in Toledo the same night we were under a tornado warning. Needless to say, the pool was closed. (Can say I know that because I remember thinking of the timing of everything and how bad it was...LOL!) That "Hancock" thing. It LOOKS LIKE they may be one in the same. The CITY of Hancock is in Maryland. However, it butts up against the Potomac and directly on the other side of the river is the unincorporated town of "Hancock, WV". On the other hand, Hancock COUNTY, West Virginia appears to be up on the extreme tip of the WV panhandle and butts up against the border with Pennsylvania on one side and Ohio on the other. MUAHAHA, the plot thickens. Haha! That's one of those areas where one could drive about 5 miles and be in 3 different states: PA, WV, & OH.
Sure hope you and the mrs. enjoyed your ride. Thanks for the history lessons too. Got to get back up there myself. Love to ride with the #1309 pulling.
Nice looking place. Was hoping y'all would get to ride behind 1309 :) There are 3 museums not too far from me with excursion rides. French Lick Scenic Rwy in French Lick, Indiana. The Kentucky Rwy Museum in New Haven, Kentucky and the Ohio River Scenic Rwy in Tell City, Indiana. Never been to it but a friend gave me a gift certificate for their Rwy last Christmas so I guess I'll be heading there when the weather warms up a bit more. My favorite is the one in Kentucky as they have an old Rogers Pacific class locomotive, the L&N #152. Now, I have taken what they call a cab ride on that locomotive before but it's not quite what you'd think as you aren't actually in the cab but on a buckboard seat that straddles the front of the tender and sits upon a couple of horse drawn wagon leaf springs, LOL! Sitting up there you can see about everything in the cab though as tall as I am I had to duck don a bit to see as when I sat up straight all I could see was the roof of the cab ad the smokestack in front of me. Learned real quick when taking a ride like that to dress in old clothes you're about ready to throw away as the first time I rode there, after the ride I noticed a lot of little pinholes burnt through my clothes from stack cinders flying back at me, LOL! Still, I bet you'd love that place too though. I wish they were located in Louisville at the old L&N Union depot there but the tracks in that area are all still in use by CSX, NS, PAL and RJ Corman and that huge depot building itself is the headquarters of Louisville's public transit company called TARC. Inside the main floor of the old depot though they do have a restored horse drawn tram that used to operate on the street tracks there. The building itself is beautiful being several stories high with a large tower and a big round stained glass window in it with the building being made of limestone blocks.
You and me both, but 1309 wasn't ready yet, will do for certain a future visit to ride with her. Love to be around steam so sounds like we heading to Kentucky sometime, perhaps a retirement trip as our time with my wife and I still working is limited. Appreciate your sharing with us and for watching the video my friend.
Glad you like it Lewis. Next video will be some of our ride we took that day and then the one after that will be them using the turntable at Frostburg.
Glad you enjoyed the show Matt. We do appreciate your writing in and watching my friend. Next video will be of parts of our ride that day and the one after some turntable action at Frostburg. Pappy and I are gonna plan a trip when we can ride behind 1309, does that sound like something you'd like to join us?
Thank you Dave for another awesome video. The mural is one of the best that I have seen. Love the caboose this one is in great shape. There is great history on the caboose. Dave thank you for for teaching us about the railroad. This is my favorite channel. 😀❤🇨🇦
Thanks Dave, as you know i was thru there at night to see what they had sitting around. Was definitely better seeing it in the daylight with your video. You covered it really well. Now can't wait to see your ride.
Larry’s has some interesting old locomotives. I photographed LTEX 105 GP9 working around Mingo Junction last Friday. It was built in 1957 for Butte, Anaconda & Pacific Railway in Montana.
Someday I'm gonna go on a tour of Larry's, it's not that far from here, Hope you made a video of 105. I got the notification bell hit for all on your channel, but Tube seems to not always send out notifications of new videos, have that happen with several of my subscriptions, so if I missed it let me know please.
As always, a fine video. Thanks for the rail company info (and types) on the cars! The logo on the doors inside - I thought of Red Wing shoes! Lol Too bad you didn't know about the ride with engineer, I think it would be fascinating to see! Well, perhaps another video sometime then.😁
Glad you enjoyed the show Trena. We do appreciate your writing in and watching my friend. Looked up the logo for red wing, I can see why you thought of it!
Now that was a unique name they chose. Got to love their music too. Actually saw a really cool Grand Trunk steam loco at Steamtown on our visit there a couple of years ago. do appreciate your watching tonight's show Tom.
Your certainly welcome DietSeth so pleased to learn you enjoyed the show my good man. Next video will be of parts of our ride that day, it was a good day.
Was there a few weekends ago for the WM 1309 Photography Special, was great to see the big Mallet pounding down the tracks. If you haven’t been, would also suggest Cass Scenic Railroad in Cass, WV to see some geared steam locomotives in action. They have been restoring some old rolling stock too, and have duplicated that red WM ballast car with a three door hopper car.
Oh yea, we gonna go back and ride 1309 that is a definite future event. Went to the back shops in Ripley that day hoping to get a glimpse of her, but no such luck, it must have been in the big shed. Bout 27 years ago rode Cass, another future trip to do it again along with the Greenbrier this time. I have never ridden Potomac Golden Eagle since it only runs on weekends and I work every weekend so that will have to be a retirement ride. Have a good friend who tamped that line for them.
@@ccrx6700 Good deal, if you video that for the channel, will be certain to watch. Didn’t know if 1309 would ever see completion, its been quite a journey, but was a fantastic moment to finally see it under steam. There are several options now for Cass area train rides, and they are working on completing the track from Durbin to Cass along the old Greenbrier line. It washed out in the 1985 floods and has been dormant ever since (though the Durbin Rocket scenic trip is active on a portion of the line). They also have diesel locomotive powered excursions from Elkins along the cheat river that I am planning for in the future. They are in the process of restoring their own Baldwin, a 2-8-0 Consolidation type locomotive that last saw service in the 60’s (my relatives were on the last passenger train on that line, possibly being pulled by that locomotive), and are now sourcing some public funding for the boiler work completion. Lots of track work goes on there. Been learning from your videos on that aspect of it, is neat to be able to see the process and gain an understanding of all it takes to build and maintain track through your work and channel. That’s railroadin!
Yes sir what a great accomplishment they have done. I did not know about the Baldwin restoration. Thank you for the very nice and informative comment 👍
Nice Dave!! As soon as I saw that Caboose I said Clinchfield RR out loud and my wife was looking at me side eyed!!!!! LOL!! Hopefully you got to go around Helmstetter curve!! Trains just put out a special edition on the Western Maryland Scenic when they finished rebuilding that Chesapeake and painted it in the Fireball scheme!!!
Yep, next video out is our ride and helmstettlers is in it. I wish I knew what degree curve it is. I've got several WM books and none of them tell the degree of curvature. Gonna make a big point to ride 1309 for sure. Cumberland only a little over an hour from us. This is video is the second time we've gone, a very nice trip indeed. Trains has a video on their web site that shows hulcher putting the driving wheels under 1309.
Great video Dave! So cool to get to see those vintage rail cars! I was in awe of THE PRR gondola. I'm not old enough to have ever seen any in person but do remember seeing PC as a kid. Thanks for sharing 👍
You and me both on the PRR Dennis! Appreciate your watching tonight my friend. Penn Central could have been the greatest RR ever in the world, it is so sad to me that the bickering and inability to see what could have been done ruined 2 very great railroads. Proverbs 29, 18: 18, where there is no vision, the people perish, and that is exactly what happened. But this is all hind sight. Suggestion for your RR, don't merge with anybody.....LOL
It's only a little over an hour from me so that would be awesome if you could come visit sometime, but since Sperry gonna keep you busy for awhile now, guess it won't be anytime soon....LOL Thanks for tuning in and watching my friend. Next video out will be of our ride that day and the one following it will be some turntable action at Frostburg.
They have so many rail cars across the bridge in the yard. Didn't know if you went into wvu. That's where the yard is. I'll have to take pictures an send them to you.
Yes the tracks are. An has been for about 40 years. That where I was a loud to ride the engines back when I was a kid. It was a holding place for cars csx stored or we went a place called brock's scrapyard.Thats where they cut up rail cars. Was a great time as a kid to ride the rails of the old Western Maryland railroad in the old GE engines. Luv the sounds. In the day we live in now wish I had a go pro. Would have had so many videos out of a chessie& bo engine.
I've got 2 videos on side bearings you might want to check out although neither one of them give a complete explanation of all they are designed to do. Simple explanation is they help the cars steer thru curves, but there is also much more to it than that. Here's the links: ua-cam.com/video/oZtfeHIhgLk/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/77rufzIqXm8/v-deo.html
Love that mural they should paint you up there behind the train working with one of your machines on the railroad you deserve it. I was really mad when they got rid of all the cabooses I always liked watching the cabooses go by. What a beautiful building that is they really have it looking really nice. Also you can tell your wife that she has beautiful rosy cheeks.
Glad you enjoyed the show Rick. We do appreciate your writing in and watching my friend and I did tell Mrs. CCRX that and she just blushed. Everyone loves cabooses, but actually the PRR and B & O cars turned me on more. I did catch a CSX switching operation last week in Connellsville Pa and there was a NYC/Conrail gondola in the cut of cars, that was pretty special to see also. Will have a video out on that sometime in the future.
Thank you very much Daniel. Really glad you enjoyed tonight's home movie my friend. This is a nice place to visit. Next video out will be some shots of our ride that day.
Great video. I really liked the details of the rail cars you videoed. Is the scenic railroad staffed by vounteers? Thank you for your positive efforts. Well done sir. :)
Your certainly welcome, so pleased to learn you enjoyed the show my good man. And yes it is volunteers here. One of them was our conductor that day and he also owns some of the cars, he used to work for SP and UP. He has a facebook page if you are on there, look up: Conductor Dan
What is inside a caboose? What kind of containers was orange juice shipped in the rail car? Your excursions take the best field tips, Dave. They remind me of more things to ask about. Thank you.
That was where the conductor of the train used to ride along with a rear end brakeman. They had a desk for the conductor and a stove to heat it. Along with some bench seats. Brakeman would ride up in the top and watch the train. orange juice is now shipped in 10,000 gallon tank cars, mostly by CSX out of Florida. Some refrigerated cars also carry gallons of OJ
Just thought of something I learned about 10 years old about coal and it's promotion. The character invented to promote rail travel. Says Phoebe Snow about to go Upon a trip to Buffalo “My gown stays white from morn till night Upon the Road of Anthracite” Just like the old "Burma Shave" jingles there are also many different jingles that go with Phoebe Snow.
Customers complained about the cinders from the steam locos so the Lackawanna created Phoebe with her white dress to ride the train as a promotional thing back then. But then again, they used anthracite coal in the locos which didn't have a lot of soot or cinders when burned. Thanks for writing in and watching today my friend.
My eyes had stars in them from the PRR and B & O cars John.... sorry....LOL After running a coal train here, running those few passengers cars would be a piece of cake! But what I really wanted to do was a track inspection. They need a tamper here, had some pretty rough track on the ride and we must have been under a slow order on some sections, but all in all it was a very good day. Do so appreciate your writing in and watching my friend.
Hancock West Virginia I look it up, and this is what was on Wikipedia " Originally known as Brosius, its post office's name was changed to Hancock in 1948 to reflect its location on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad mainline across the river from Hancock, Maryland."
I live 30 minutes from where the train station is.. It’s a crappy little town but it is my crappy little town! But no really Allegany county is not all that bad just your typical small town.
It is beautiful country there. Only wish we could have visited when the leaves were all turned. Next video out will be of parts of our train ride that day. Appreciate your watching the show today.
The leaves changed late this year! Warm weather( Global Warming )? We also used to get more snow! Not as much anymore! X-C skier here! Haven't been able to ski much for years now! And yes, Cumberland is a very beautiful area! The mountains are fantastic!
Sorry Aiden but it gonna be a long time before another one of those comes out. Glad that you enjoyed the ones before. Not much of anything going on up at the historical society during the winter.
I would think that you would not be doing the RR thing because you work on the rail!!! I know its coal and you can access whatever equipment you need. But never saw you acting as engineer on one…. ROTFLMAO!!!!!
Many years back Franklin I ran the Cumberland Mine train, it wasn't for a long time. Was a really cool job but same thing over and over and I hated changing brake shoes on the loco. Track maintenance is much more interesting and challenging and you get to do many different things and move around a lot more. do appreciate your writing in and for checking out the show today my friend.

Hope you guys had a great time there and look fwd to seeing your next video! Btw did you get my address when you asked me for it to send the reflective safety vest? Thanks again for sharing your videos and appreciate your time and effort to get the BEST FOOTAGE!
Thank you very much Shawn for the very nice comment. it is a good
ride and you will enjoy it. Hope you can ride when 1309 is
pulling tho. No sir I have not gotten an address from you.

You have railroading soaked into you all the way to the bones! Great video, thank you!
LOL, yep it gets in your blood and you can't get it out Robin! Railroad
is the central preoccupation of my life along with my hobby when
I get off work. Do appreciate your checking today's show out
my friend.
Its nice to get away from the daily grind, and not worry about coal spills or dead engine batteries........its neat how theyve adapted the roller bearing axles to the friction bearing trucks.
Glad you enjoyed the show Paul. We do appreciate your
writing in and watching my friend. Yep take a day off railroad and
go ride another railroad....LOL But it was a very good day trip for
us.
Thanks Dave! Never see enough Cabooses. Sure miss the Caboose and those employees that rode in them. 👍
Your welcome Ken and it was a sad day when cabooses
went by the wayside. Do so much appreciate your tuning in
and watching tonight's show my friend.
My great grand father was a carpenter for the B & O back in the late 1800's his son (My grand father) worked on a mail car.
That's some pretty awesome history you have there! B&O was a
great RR back in the day. Sure wish I could talk with your grandfather,
I would be enthralled listening to him tell stories of his RR career.
Cool. Looks like you had a fun day. You'll have to go back when they have the steam locomotive running and ride behind it. Thanks for sharing Dave.
Oh yea Zach, definite trip back to ride 1309. This is the second
time we've ridden WMSR. An excellent day trip as it's only a little
over an hour from us. Next video out will be some of our ride
this day.
That's pretty awesome Frank, but your showing your age....LOL
I remember as a younger man seeing the Chessie around our
place, loved that paint scheme. B & O had tracks into Cumberland
Md.
Glad you enjoyed Dave and the ride will be next video out, then
the one after will show turntable action at Frostburg. Gonna
make another trip down there sometime to ride when 1309 is
pulling.
Thanks for the story Jim, made me laugh, I can just see the
expression on that bride's face! It is a nice ride here, sure would
love to do it when 1309 is running. Appreciate your writing in
and for watching the show my friend.
Some of those old Amtraks F40's came through here on their way down to PCRR (Panama Canal Rail Road). They were already overhauled, painted up and in tow, That was a few years ago though.
Pretty neat to hear that! Appreciate your writing in and for
checking out the video today my friend.
They have a nice building there I guess it was an important station at one time. I also found the ballast car interesting Never seen rollers used before
It is a very nice place. Western Maryland was once a very important
RR around these parts. They had some really big steam locos to
pull those heavy coal drags, including some Challenger and decapod locos. They merged with B & O and C & O to form
the Chessie System, now part of CSX. Appreciate your watching today
my friend.
Dave every time I watched your videos I was thinking of my home town, Cumberland, so now a little bit of history. The first train to ever run at night time left Cumberland in 1848 on its way to Baltimore, Maryland.
Thanks Joe. I'm thinking that must have been a B & O? Western Maryland didn't start building track until 1852.
@@ccrx6700 yes it was the B&O.
@@joemc111 👍😊
Beautiful old station. I’ve been to Cumberland many times, but never ridden the WM.
Glad you enjoyed the show Bill. We do appreciate your
writing in and watching my friend. Next video out will be parts
of our ride that day. It is a good ride. Gonna go back when
1300 is running sometime, that will be awesome.
We went to Altoona couple years ago and
saw Railroaders Museum and Horseshoe Curve, but just didn't
have time to visit Portage. Appreciate your writing in and checking
out the show my friend.
I have been there when I lived just south of there in Canaan Valley WV. After I retired from the Baltimore County fire dept.. they were working on that when we moved to Holland, Michigan they run a train like that down to Elkins, WV. In the summer
That is very beautiful country around there, just wish the leaves
could have been turned more when we went. Appreciate your
watching the show Wayne.
Nice.............................................................Nice !!......................
Your welcome and we do appreciate the very nice comment and
for tuning in to tonight's show my friend.
Thank you I gives me a idea where to take the grandson 👍
Your welcome Jim. this is a great place to visit and a very good
scenic ride. When you get to Frostburg check out the Carriage Museum. Another place is Potomac Golden Eagle Scenic not
far from Cumberland in Romney. They only give rides on weekends
tho.
(Can say I know that because I remember thinking of the timing of everything and how bad it was...LOL!)
That "Hancock" thing.
Glad you enjoyed the show Eric. We do appreciate your
writing in and watching my friend and thanks for the info on Hancock.
Sure hope you and the mrs. enjoyed your ride. Thanks for the history lessons too. Got to get back up there myself. Love to ride with the #1309 pulling.
Thanks John we did and next video out will be showing part of
our ride that day. And yep we gonna go back sometime to ride
with 1309 for sure.
Looks like a nice little museum. CRR is Clinchfield Railroad I think. Thanks for taking us along! Looking forward to the train ride
Glad you enjoyed the show Steve. We do appreciate your
writing in and watching my friend.
@@ccrx6700 Your welcome from both Jenny and I.
You and me both, but 1309 wasn't ready yet, will do for certain
a future visit to ride with her. Love to be around steam so sounds
like we heading to Kentucky sometime, perhaps a retirement
trip as our time with my wife and I still working is limited. Appreciate
your sharing with us and for watching the video my friend.

Larry’s has some interesting old locomotives. I photographed LTEX 105 GP9 working around Mingo Junction last Friday. It was built in 1957 for Butte, Anaconda & Pacific Railway in Montana.

Oh yea, we gonna go back and ride 1309 that is a definite future
event. Went to the back shops in Ripley that day hoping to get
a glimpse of her, but no such luck, it must have been in the
big shed. Bout 27 years ago rode Cass, another future trip to do it
again along with the Greenbrier this time. I have never ridden
Potomac Golden Eagle since it only runs on weekends and I work
every weekend so that will have to be a retirement ride. Have a good
friend who tamped that line for them.

You and me both on the PRR Dennis! Appreciate your watching
tonight my friend. Penn Central could have been the greatest
RR ever in the world, it is so sad to me that the bickering and
inability to see what could have been done ruined 2 very great
railroads. Proverbs 29, 18: 18, where there is no vision, the
people perish, and that is exactly what happened. But this is
all hind sight. Suggestion for your RR, don't merge with anybody.....LOL

That was where the conductor of the train used to ride along
with a rear end brakeman. They had a desk for the conductor
and a stove to heat it. Along with some bench seats. Brakeman
would ride up in the top and watch the train. orange juice is

Just thought of something I learned about 10 years old about coal and it's promotion. The character invented to promote rail travel.
Says Phoebe Snow about to go
Upon a trip to Buffalo
“My gown stays white from morn till night
Upon the Road of Anthracite”
Just like the old "Burma Shave" jingles there are also many different jingles that go with Phoebe Snow.
Customers complained about the cinders from the steam locos
so the Lackawanna created Phoebe with her white dress to ride
the train as a promotional thing back then. But then again,
they used anthracite coal in the locos which didn't have a lot of
soot or cinders when burned. Thanks for writing in and watching
today my friend.
You didn''t mention the FGE reefer For me, that was the coolest car there. If they have an "Engineer for a day" program, give it a shot.
My eyes had stars in them from the PRR and B & O cars John.... sorry....LOL After running a coal train here, running those few
passengers cars would be a piece of cake! But what I really
wanted to do was a track inspection. They need a tamper here,
had some pretty rough track on the ride and we must have
been under a slow order on some sections, but all in all it
was a very good day. Do so appreciate your writing in and
watching my friend.

Why does that caboose have leaf springs instead of coil springs?
Yes sir it does. Even some of the older diesel locos had similar
leafs such as the EMD GP series. Appreciate your checking out
