    Killteam is basically a small squad encounters. Instead of large armies, you control a group of 3 to 20 units, depending on the faction that you choose. Pretty fun, the trailer seems to be a new edition of the game, and I highly recommend Killteam for anyone that wants to start collecting warhammer but don't have the time to play long large battles or the money for so many units.

      ya, its the trailer for Killteam 5th edition, which is going to have the plastic DKoK//Armageddon Steel Legion kit against HD Ork Kommandos.
      also, Killteam is 1-25 models depending on compossition, since there are some ways to take a Kill Man for several factions, while guard just gets to dump nearly a platoon on the table.

      Adding to your great comment, I can also recommend it if you don't want to commit to just 1 army or faction, as KT can be played usually quite nicely with 1-2 boxes of units, so for the same money you'd spend on a 40K army you can have 10+ Kill Teams all from different factions with varied playstyles and customization.

    3:31 It is actually brought up in several in-universe books that the long-las (laser sniper rifle) is basically just point and shoot, same as the normal lasguns. The trade-off is that you get recharging ammo plus no drop-off or wind resistance at the cost of basically drawing a glowing red line between the sniper and the target. So if you have the skill a solid slug rifle might be preferable so you reduce the risk of getting spotted, but if you don't want to gamble with your accuracy you pick the long-las.

      Realistically, because lasers are directional light (all the photons/electromagnetic waves moving in a single direction), you wouldn't be able to see a laser unless you're directly in its path or something is diffusing the beam (the laser welding guy I used to work with said "if you can see a laser, you're in its way"), so a laser-based sniper weapon wouldn't give up your position except to the target.

      Normally I'd call an Ork going down to just a single Long Las shot some bullcrap, but after PLAYING a sniper in an Only War game, I learned just how terrifyingly powerful a Long Las really can be. if the target isn't aware of you shooting at them, they're basically just dead unless they're something massive like a Dreadnaught. Ok so the ranged guy going first when they charged does make sense tactically for Kreig. A human has a low chance of defeating an ork alone since the Ork has better reach, strength, and likely experience in melee combat.
    So the first man is less to kill it than distract it so the one following with the chainsword gets a better chance to kill it. Typical Krieg tactics of being willing to die to achieve the objective.

    Kill Team is a tabletop game. It's in the "Skirmish" area, meaning that you only field a handful of models. (Compared to a normal 40k match where you have several units)
    The game already exist. This is a new version. (They call it a redesign from the ground up... so I expect changes)

      40K is also a skirmish thing. You field small armies (comparing to a normal Historic Wargame). And in a nonsense way... Being able to field more than a Greater Demon, its an absurd if you don't have enormous amounts of smaller demons or other Chaos troops fielded. If an insane Souleater finds another of his kind (no matter what god he is servant to), he would try to destroy him, no matter what other things are fielded by the enemy... As he would not consider them as suitable enemies for him... Skarbrand had no true enemies, so he tried the best enemy he found, Khorne himself... other Greater Demons would feel simmilarly

    I thought it was kind of interesting that the sniper adjusted the focus because, and it was probably unintentional on the part of the animator but, contrary to popular belief, a laser isn't a beam. It's a very narrow cone. Most handheld lasers will be tightest at the emitter and widen out from there, but some higher end or higher powered laser arrays will use focusing lenses to change the distance at which that cone of light converges to a point and begins diverging. It's very plausible that a laser weapon would have an adjustable focus for range that moved that convergence point up or down the beam length so as to put maximum energy into minimal area. In the future, if laser shoulder arms become plausible, we could very well see something like a laser-armed sniper who needs to adjust his weapon's focus based on the range to his target. It is also very likely that his optical sight would be matched to his weapon's focal length, so that all he has to do is to bring the target into focus on his scope, put the crosshairs on, and fire. This would allow him to range the target without reading numbers and adjust the focal point of his weapon intuitively, while also eliminating the need for some kind of electronic ranging and auto-focusing systems that add unneeded complexity to an already complex combat weapon.

    The Krieger with the chainsword is probably the sergeant/squad leader, so arguably he's a little more valuable and shouldn't be the one putting himself at risk, which is why the rifleman ran ahead. Think of the sword and pistol combo you often see leaders in 40k carrying as somewhat akin to how IRL officers are given pistol and carbines and are considered more as self defense weapons.

    With your point about the scopes optics being a straight line while the laser is also a straight line, I think him dialing the focus could be a solution to that. They aren’t 2 parallel lines, the scope’s line is angled to intersect the shot.
    The scope’s focus may correlate to a slight cant downward, so at some point the crosshair’s line crosses the path of the laser. Him dialing the focus also slightly changes that bend, moving the intersection forward or back. At the ranges they expect the sniper to be used at, a difference of 1 degree could mean a dozen yards difference The focus is there as a way to make training easier. Since they want to pump out soldiers, rather than teaching them how to account for the difference in angles, they can just say “Turn the knob until your target is clear, line up the crosshair, and you’ll hit.”
    Not canon, but I think it’s a reasonable enough headcanon to explain what was going on with his gun.

    • @TacoSallust
      @TacoSallust 3 роки тому +2

      There's no need for the scope to intercept the line of the shot. At 10 yards the drop between barrel and scope is about 3" . . . at 10 miles the drop between barrel and scope is about 3". "My shot is going to land about 3" lower than my crosshair" is not hard to account for in shooting.

    • @JackPhoenixCz
      @JackPhoenixCz 2 роки тому

      With a little more elaborate setup than what was shown there, lasgun 'barrel' can also serve as optics. Light goes both ways, you just have to redirect the incoming light to the scope, which is not that hard.

    5:54 - you might also have issues of obstruction via refraction when talking about lasers as well.
    if you think about it, you can bounce a laser pointer off of smoke from a campfire pretty easily. though it might be harder with a powered laser gun, it isn't insane to think that particulates in the air could cause serious refraction problems for part of or the entire shot. The longer the distance, the more significant that chance becomes, as small changes become big changes over larger distances, and/or the longer the shot has to go the more particulate that could get in the way.

    Killteam isn't a videogame, it's an alternate game for the tabletop miniatures. Where the regular Warhammer 40k is army vs army sometimes with armies on either side having 80 to 100+ models organized and moved as units, killteam is squad vs squad with lists being 5-20 models depending on the faction, each controlled individually.
    A new box set and edition of Killteam is coming out and this advertises that.

    • @arly803
      @arly803 3 роки тому +1

      We can't speak to how it will change in the new edition, but in the current edition of killteam, you muster a killteam of up to 20 models, with a budget of 100 points to spend on models, and upgrades (different guns, melee weapons and other gear like a vox-caster radio) for those models. A killteam will consist of a leader, up to 3 specialists (like sniper which gains an accuracy buff, scout which gains a movement speed buff, or comms which applies a buff to a friendly model once per turn), optionally a commander, and a number of non specialists up to the limit of models total (20) or points to spend (100).
      a mission with objectives is selected and a layout of terrain is prepared on the board, and you and your opponent duke it out in semi-turn based skirmish combat until the mission is completed or one of the killteams is broken (more than half of the killteam is injured or out of action and you fail a morale check). if the mission completes whoever scored the most victory points as per the mission objective wins, or if the game ends because of one team breaking but not the other, then the player who's killteam did not break is the victor.

    04:00 With a laser, you "still" will have to adjust altitude because the scope is not on the same angle or plane of the laser proper, it will not go left or right nor arc its projectory as you are correctly observing, however it will miss in the up or down if your convergence isn't sighted for the correct range. Think: holding 2 laser pointers and getting getting them to meet at one specific spot. Some angling is required though this becomes "less" of an issue the closer to infinite range you get. It looked like he was adjusting for "closer" targets. In "all" of this however, laser sniping is soooo much easier than predicting slug throwers.

    Killteam is a specialty game (spin-off) from the main 40k table-top game, not a video game.
    Instead of controlling an entire armies fighting eachother on the field of battle (50+ models), you controll a small squad doing skirmishes and special operations (5-15 models). There is also persistence between battles. You can give your characters names, and note their greatest deeds, they gain experience for each battle and can take specialist roles when they level up (sniper, commander, comms, demolitions, ... ). Whenever they go down in battle it's possible for them to get hurt or even die, which funnily enough makes you care about your characters.
    The trailer itself anounces an update for the ruleset, going from second edition to third edition. This is usually accompanied by a starter set containing two factions, in this case imperial guard (death korps) and orks. It also quite possibly means that we're going to get plastic krieg models, which made a lot of us make happy gas mask noises.

    Krieg technology is weirdly backwards hence the detonator. All part of the WW1 aesthetic.
    The reason the guy was by himself is because the cable isn't long enough so that the detonator is in the blast radius. Kriegers are happy to die for the Emperor but no point in wasting more men than you need to.

    To give you a rundown on the Death Korps if you're unaware, they all come from the planet Krieg that once rebelled against the Emperor of Man and was consumed by 500 years of atomic civil war, leaving it a barren rock where its survivors can only live underground. They basically swore an oath of penance to the Emperor and commit every single able-bodied soldier to join the Astra Militarum, and teach every single one of them from birth that they were born to die. Where most planets produce resources, Krieg produces expendable lives; men that are completely indoctrinated by a dogma of self-sacrifice to pay penance to the Emperor for their ancestor's rebellion.
    The doctrine of the Death Korps is to the point that, normal Imperial Commissars are often forced to shoot their own men for retreating or failing the Emperor. Death Korps Commissars are just there to stop their men from suicide charging when it's not appropriate.

But not accounting for bullet drop, instead hes accounting for the offset of the scope to the barrel. Just because you have a lasgun doesn't mean your point of aim will always be your point of impact. It depends on distance. Just like how real guns have hold over marks for engaging at distances closer than your zero

    You're overthinking the lasrifle scope. You'd just put the scope parallel to the barrel and aim a couple inches above your intended target, so the top of an ork's skull.

    I think it's nice that they do sit in cover and try to watch out for incoming shots here. Many seem to think that DKOK wants to eat bullets just for the sake of it.

      It is 100% lore that the Death Korps want to die and will take any chance the kill themselves. The only reason they are taking cover is because dying without completing the objective (blowing up the area) wouldn't fulfil their mission and thus they wouldn't glorify the Emperor. Note: the explosion blew the entire place sky high. The Kriegmen weren't getting out even if the Orks didn't get them.

    Custodes definitely have plot armor in Killteam.
    You field 2 to 3 Custodes against whatever the opponent can muster. 8 Spacemarines maybe. Up to 20 guardsmen with nothing but Lasguns
