The EMP takes down planes, hospitals, everything so thats what Wolverine meant. Magneto probably killed hundreds of thousands with that move. He still right though 😂
In the comics it also caused earthquakes and tidal waves so probably millions died

That scene was rad, don't get me wrong, but I don't think anything will ever top the White House scene in X2. Keep in mind, we (writ large) were still in the nascent stage of what super-hero movies could accomplish and hot damn did seeing that in theatres BLOW MY MIND.

@@misterderp4566it's a cool scene for sure. And the fact it was so early in superhero movie history is significant. But I feel that scene gets overrated too often. If nightcrawler is a favorite character of the person watching the scene I get the emotions.. but we've had sooooo many scenes in great movies that I would argue surpass it in many ways.
But that's just me.
The last frame with Xavier, Jean, Scott, Ororo, and Hank is a throwback to the old-school, upper-left corner of the X-men comics. The floaty heads.

@@LucLightWolf121 Even Trask regretted his actions. Both Val and Trask were in the mindset of, "We're just taking precautions to help humans" and not "We want to kill all mutants." Like, mass genocide wasn't their thought process even though, inevitably, it's where this ideology always leads.

Wolverine would have sniffed out Mystique when Val came to the mansion in episode 2. That didn't happen. She's Val. Not Mystique.

Val Cooper IS Val Cooper!! She is NOT Mystique!! I’ve been crying this for so long and I’m standing by it, it makes zero sense for Val to be Mystique here’s why:
1. Telepaths!! Telepaths would easily be able to see through her shapeshifting. Jean, Madelyne and Emma would have easily spotted her!
2. Wolverine would be able to smell her, he knows what she smells like!
3. Sentinels didn’t identify her as a mutant during the massacre!
4. When Val was alone with Magneto there’s no reason to keep the disguise going!
5. On twitter I thanked Beau for not letting Val be Mystique and Beau DeMayo liked my tweet!

Your other points stand, but I'm pretty sure I've seen it established (maybe not in the cartoon though) that shapeshifters are a challenge to telepaths for one contrived reason or another. OTOH, a telepath should still be able to tell "hmm, I can't read this seemingly ordinary human, I wonder what's up with that..."

It bugs me because at this point in the plot what would Mystique even contribute to the narrative? She’s not related to Bastion, Mister Sinister or Magneto in any meaningful way so if Val Cooper was Mystique… who cares?

I honestly hope that it’s not Mystique, otherwise it takes so much away from her ending speech since she’s a human realizing the error of her ways.
If it was Mystique, the whole speech feels like a lie.
If Cooper was Mystique she would have been sabotaging the project early on the series. That why was not convinced that it was Mystique.

X-Men fans have never been spoiled this much outside of comics in history! Whether it’s the deadly tag team of Nightcrawler and Wolverine, the Summers Family fighting a horde of Prime Sentinels, Bastion’s on screen debut as one of the the biggest and most formidable villains in Marvel history, Magneto proving again why he’s one of the most OP characters in comics history, and Charles Xavier ending the episode with “To me my X-men”.
*AND THIS IS JUST PART ONE!?!?!?!* If parts 2 and 3 are this great or even better this will go down as the greatest comic book tv show ever made!

The fact they’ve shown Cap and Spidey, and referenced Hulk and Iron-Man (dang, Tony probably just lost a good chunk of his tech thanks to Magneto) makes me think the final two episodes might involve some sort of Avengers vs Mutants battle with the X-Men in the middle, especially as Magneto is enemy number one right now in the eyes of the human world.

His dad is a guy wearing a leather jacket, and the room he’s cleaning as a janitor is the room where Bishop destroyed Nimrod in the episode, explaining how he infected him

Nightcrawler is my favorite xmen. And I always wanted them to really show what he can do. X2 did a great job but it wasnt quite what I always envisioned. I thought I would never see the nightcrawler I loved in true action...until now. The scene with him and the rapiers? I will never be the same. That was the coolest thing I have ever seen, period.

I absolutely flipped out when they showed Doom, Zemo, and about 4 or 5 other Masters of Evil types, all like "yikes, even for us this is a bit much... anyway, GO TEAM WINNING SIDE, woooo". And the Nightcrawler POV for bamfing through the brimstone dimension was bonkers! Bastion literally playing the long game by hopscotching over mutants in evolution to just create better humans is also bonkers and a great use of the character. Pretty sure I saw Namor on one of the monitors in the background too! This show is just so amazing.
What the hell are other mutants doing in that world conference call of villains? Namor a true asshole then 😂

The thing that scares me a little about the Genosha is an Absolute Point/Nexus Event theory is that Gambit's death isn't reversible.
The nightcrawler teleport/dimension was explored in further detail in the X-Men Evolutions series. But the animation during that fight scene was on another level.
Wolverine's little growls are so damn cute. I love when he and Kurt fight together, it brings two of my fav mutants together.

Well we see. This origin story of Bastion is different. In this story he is a "mutant" where as in the comics he much more of a machine. So what will the public think when they find out he is a "mutant".
But what of the Mastermold we saw in Madelyne's vision in episode 1? It was a different model than the one that attacked genosha and the one wolverine beats later...

I havent seen anyone comment on it, but that last frame with Xavier in the center and Beast, Cyclops, Jean and Storm, I think that's a reference to the little tag at the corner of the covers of x-men issues, at least in the 90s
We are experiencing peak X-Men.
Do wish it had shown Charles mentally calling all surviving Alumni and quasi-members of the X-men. Not just the originals.
I hope that he called Archangel and Iceman when he summoned his X-Men. To deal with Bastion, his Prime Sentinels, and a justifiably angry Magneto, it's going to have to be all hands on deck.
I can’t believe in one episode Hector got Spidey, Agustin got Doom and Adam got a man of steel origin story reference during the bastion backstory.
Also love the way this show focuses on chosen family, none of the romantic relationships are really working but the X-men show up for each other and mutant kind, always

This episode was incredible! That was only Part-1 of 3?!?!? I can't honestly contain my excitement for the next two episodes over the next two weeks! The team-ups, the action, the music, the dialogue, the animation, the Easter Eggs, the cameos, and the respect for the comic book source material and original 90s animated series that inspired it all was absolutely perfect! I'm honestly ready to say that this is my favorite project Marvel/MCU has ever done 10/10 episode! I can't wait for next week!

They did such an amazing job balancing three action sequences at once. Animated Nightcrawler+Logan is the thing I’ve wanted to see my entire life.

I feel that Val's arch would loose potency if she was Mystique. A human coming to the conclusion that Magneto was right feels like a stronger statement than Mystique saying it.

Not by itself. It would only have effected the Prime Sentinels and similar cyborg or android based beings. The side effects alone would cause massively power outages but should be recoverable for the most part.

@@johnniequinn3215 true, but an EMP goes way above a regular power outage, pretty much most if not all planes and helicopters crashed, most if not all nuclear power plants had a meltdown, a lot of people died in hospitals, car accidents left and right with turn signals simple turning off, etc. Of course, I don't expect the show to go full on into details of how catastrophic the global emp was, but for sure, Magneto killed and injured thousands of people around the whole planet.
@@Bulsara777 I don't disagree with collateral effects. But I will also point out that disruption was already happening with all the prime sentinels activating at once. And there are ways to harden against the initial effects of emp. We will have to wait a week to see how far the effects of this spread.
I find it very interesting that those sentinels were able to somehow subjugate a seemingly Phoenix-empowered Rachel Summers. Something I would usually argue is not possible unless you're like Galactus-level power. And even then, not promised.

We actually have seen Nightcrawler travel through the brimstone dimension in animated form! There's an episode of Evolution where Forge creates a device that lets Kurt stay in the dimension longer to investigate it. Some creatures from that dimension even make their way back through to our dimension.
If they're doing the Fatal Attractions story next week, which it looks like they are, Professor X was wearing the Shi'ar exosuit during that one.

What you got to wonder how many people died to the EMP. Planes in the air, pacemakers, important hospital equipment, I got to be under the assumption that a couple hundred thousand died.

She also says Magneto understands "us" (meaning humans). That "we" strikes me more as her talking about the victims of violence.

They'll totally do Onslaught, but next season. These last two episodes have to be the rest of the Fatal Attractions comics storyline. Xavier comes back next episode and resets the team while Magneto sets up his base. In the final episode, Magneto strips out Wolvie's adamantium and then Xavier's response is to mindwipe Magneto. And THAT was the setup for Onslaught, so all next season is dealing with Wolvie and the Onslaught Reveal. Season 3 (or a few episode arc) could be Age of Apocalypse! So much potential and all so well done!
Tbf, they gave Storm her original outfit. There's no reason not to give Wolverine the brown and yellow. I'd love black and orange like in X-Men evolution, but I'm not holding my breath
13:32 In the X-Men evolution series. There was an episode where they did explore seeing the brimstone dimension. Kurt had to wear a device that made him go slow in order to see it. Because every time he travels through it he’s moving at fast speed in order to get to his next destination.

Lmao y'all with Mystique is so funny. And Magneto shut down THE WORLD. Planes, cars, etc. Humans and perhaps even some mutants are DEAD DEAD.
So Magneto didn't just shut down on thing, looks like he shut down the entire worlds electrical grids. So anyone on life saving electrical equipment. Those "civilians" who signed up for the Sentinel program. So in theory he truly did kill millions. I think that's why Wolverine said Magneto declared war on humans.

I remember saying here the Genosha attack was a "nexus" event (due to the presence of The Watcher) and someone said those "don't exist with the X-Men"...well it was confirmed in this episode that nexus events do exist here. What an episode, the best of everything!!!

She was still working with Bastion. Accidental genocide is still genocide.
Seems only right that they would adapt Operation Zero Tolerance, which was released in 1997, in X-men '97. I honestly thought that crossover was a low point for X-men comics, but the writers of this show are making it so much cooler. I don't think they're going to do Onslaught this season, but with the fast pace of this show anything is possible. I don't think they would introduce Bastion just to have him be defeated this quickly. I still expect the last episode of the season to end with the X-men fighting Bastion himself. What happens with Magneto, I have no idea.
Zero Tolerance is the story that hooked me as a comic fan, but it does not end with a large bang. If they are adapting Fatal Attractions. That may be the better finale.
Bastion's Second Coming story had the better finale.
Next season, or the third season.
I hope Val isn't Mystique. That would ruin a very nice narrative, that is to have a human actually understanding the mutants perspective and in the end agreeing with Magneto, who she herself used to see as a terrorist before.

I've been waiting for yall to freak out over this show. Especially for those 3 shots, that mean alot to both of you. Objectively, the Writing has been phenomenal and I can't help but applaud and thank. We'll see after the season if the fog finally clears. Proud of you muchachos 👏👏👏👏🤘

I'm very excited to see what the rest of the finale does (hoping they don't do Onslaught since that wound being such a disappointment in the comics, but I thought the same thing about Bastion and they've made him work here so I trust them if that is the direction they decide to take)! they've been taking big swings every episode, and I'm here for it! I've never been big on the "Val is Mystique" train, and after this episode I REALLY hope that's not the way they go because that "Magneto was right" speech is so much more impactful if it's coming from a human who didn't trust him rather than a collaborator/sympathizer in disguise. also, the yellow and blue was Wolverine's first costume in the comics so definitely predates his brown and orange look (which I personally prefer). also also, those Frank Quitely black leather New X-Men costumes are super fucking dope and Agustin is a crazy person. ;) I doubt they'll go that direction for this show (YET!), but they are some of my favorite looks. if I had to guess what everyone's new looks will be, I'd say maybe some combination or influences from the Astonishing and Krakoan eras. though Storm's rocking a more classic 70s look, so maybe everyone's gonna go retro with some Cockrum/Byrne designs! it would be very funny for a show about moving into the future to feature a big design choice of moving into the past. :p
Honestly, I would not be at all surprised to find out Bastion infected Magneto and that the team is going to have to fight him, or at least Jubilee & Sunspot (as a throw-back to eps 1&4 of this season), and it will be Rogue, who is dealing with the mental aspects of the infection from Gyrich, who pull Magneto back enough to defeat him.
