- A hike through some of the most outstanding scenery of the North Pennines. The hike starts at Wheelhead Sike, before progressing onto Cow Green Dam where we join the Pennine Way. The Pennine Way is followed all the way to High Cup, the remains of an Ice Age glacier and one of the most impressive sights of the whole of the Pennine Way walk before retracing the route back to the starting point. At Cown Green Dam we detour very slightly to visit Cauldron Snout, the highest and longest cataract in England.
Route taken :-
Wheelhead Sike - Cow Green Dam - Pennine Way - Birkdale Farm - Pennine Way - Maize Beck - High Cup - Maize Beck - Pennine Way - Grain Beck - Pennine Way - Cauldron Snout - Cow Green Dam - Wheelhead Sike
Summits :-
Wheelhead Sike 1640ft (500m)
Horseman Sike 1902ft (580m)

Just wanted to say a massive thank you Duncan. We watch all you videos and completed the High Cup Walk from Dufton yesterday truly amazing..You have totally inspired us to the point where we have bought a little cottage on the edge of the North Pennines. A true North Pennines legend. Jayne and Paul x
Wow. I am totally lost for words on this, don't know what to say. Thank you so so much for your kind words, I hope you enjoy your cottage and the North Pennines as much as I do, I may see you in the mountains someday and a warm welcome to England's last wilderness 😊
Wow... fantastic hike and beautiful camera shots. High Cup threw me for a loop I was not expecting that...Excellent...
Thanks, it is a gorgeous area of the Pennines, known for its views and scenery, well worth visiting 😊
Great vid there 👍 beautiful part of the country
Thanks, it is a fantastic part of the island we live on and so isolated and wild, ideal to escape to humdrum of modern life 😊
Epic location 👍👍
It is a fantastic location, epic views, amazing scenery and really shows off nature at its best!!
Loved this video. You mention the red flag indicating the Warcop M.O.D. firing range. Any chance of you doing a video from Mickle Fell? (On a white flag day, obviously.)
Hi, thank you for the comments. I wish it was as simple as waiting for a non firing day but unfortunately the area is still a no go zone due to unexploded live ammunition etc. The MOD do have set dates available for hiking to the summit of Mickle Fell, you have to apply for a permit beforehand, follow a pre defined route and no deviation is allowed. It is in my to do list but is gonna require some forward planning 😊
Hi,
When u walked to nick cup and walked through that farm (4.37) can u drive up to the farm and park there?
Hi, unfortunately not, the road alongside the reservoir is a private one and kept locked (you can see the sign and padlock at 45 sec).

I missed that part.
Wanted to take the kids to the cup but the 14mi round trip is a bit too much for them.
Thanks for the answer👍
You can walk from Dufton to High Cup, it's approximately half the distance (6-7 miles return) if they can manage the uphill stretch.

I was just thinking about that, in worst case we just turn back if the uphill part becomes too difficult.
Thanks pal 👍
How far a walk is that.👍
Hi it's a total of 14 miles there and back, 7 miles each way. 🖒
