I was pretty surprised too, I guess they had some leeway since they had to remove all the Nazi symbols and change is name from Hitler to something else
Congratulations Russ! I know the struggle 😂 2 months ago I beat Friday the 13th on NES after 30+ years, and 3 days ago i finally beat The Karate Kid NES!!
Thanks so much. OO yes Friday the 13th can certainly be difficult. I have a book on it that helps. Karate Kid I definitely want to complete soon. I could only get to the storm part as a kid.
The cover is pretty epic so I can see lots of kids being drawn to it. Good luck on your adventure. Take notes so you know what communicator to take, and if you get stuck pressing start + A + B you can exit the level
Love Bionic Commando. The most 80's 8-bit thing happens in the NES port during the credits. The word "accomplished" is split between 2 lines of text. i always get a weird chuckle at that, but it's also probably because I develop software by day and completely understand the herculean effort to port a game this complex to the NES. They did very good.
that wanted to thank you so much for your accomplished, they had to draw it out with 2 lines of text ha It was a shame they had to remove all the Nazi reference and Hitler since that is what it is based on
So happy you finally enjoyed it to the end! I rented it in HS when I was sick and powered through to the end. One of the games I’m most proud of completing.
I beat Bionic Commando in the 5th grade. I still throw it in and beat it every so often. I had a speedrun of 41 minutes clearing all areas at one point. Id like to improve that.
Wow, I had almost forgotten about those little plastic cases that NES games came in from video stores, often with a laminated one page "instruction book" on the inset that didn't help much with certain games, haha. Well done on beating the game, it was not an easy one, and yeah, no password system so you had to beat it in one session.
Weekends spent renting horror movies and a new-to-you game? Dude, THAT is a plan I can get behind! Aw, look at young Russ with that custom sleeve clip! Congrats on the game victory BTW!
. I think Bionic Commando might be the best Nes game experience. Just so much tension in swinging with big vertical stages, and that delightful music. Beating it without the save states is not as bad as other games, since you can farm continues easily in the overhead view sections. The only weapon you need is the Bazooka. long range and high damage. A lot of difficulty comes from useing lower power weapons like the 3 way shot. As I noticed in your footage. Congratulations on your successful mission.
I know there can be some tight swinging you need to get when crossing pitfalls with spikes. I can definitely do it with more practice without save states. Just need the practice. Yeah it seems the Bazooka is certainly the way to go. thanks for watching
I've still yet to beat Bionic Commando. That's one cool dust sleeve for Bionic Commando. You should put some on your store. I would definitely buy some.
It has been a while since I have done some Video Game Dust sleeves. Well see, I am going to be selling a ton of NES sticker overlays soon, so I can definitely do a Bionic Commando one
bionic commando would definitely be on my list of all time nes favorites! also no shame in using modern conveniences to beat these... hell I had to save-scum to finish ninja gaiden after it arrived on nintendo switch online! so I get it. I did beat bionic commando on a real NES a few years back, though. I did also really like the upgrades they added to rearmed! I did finally get around to finishing that one on steam some years ago.
Russ, what parts were giving you the most trouble in that game? I know some levels required you to start the level with the appropriate weapon. (For example: one required the rocket launcher, and another the "3-way" gun to blast a barrier at the start of the level.) And unless you knew the secret code to exit the level and return to the chopper, (a+b+start I think,) you had to restart the game which was annoying. (The code was shared in an issue of "Nintendo Power".)
yes I did use that code to exit the level incase i had the wrong weapon or decoded. I think just not knowing how they game really operates. Since when I played it as a kid I was just running around not knowing where to go and what to accomplish
First cuss word I ever saw in a videogame. What a cinematic finale.
I was pretty surprised too, I guess they had some leeway since they had to remove all the Nazi symbols and change is name from Hitler to something else

I am jealous. I'll never beat Friday the 13th
Thanks so much. OO yes Friday the 13th can certainly be difficult. I have a book on it that helps. Karate Kid I definitely want to complete soon. I could only get to the storm part as a kid.
Congrats man! I was nowhere near beating this game as a kid. Cool to see you finish it!
Dude Same. Doing the live stream I was seeing areas I never seen or played before ha
I got this game for my birthday in the 80's and I still ain't beat, well tonight is the night!!!
The cover is pretty epic so I can see lots of kids being drawn to it. Good luck on your adventure. Take notes so you know what communicator to take, and if you get stuck pressing start + A + B you can exit the level
@@RussLyman I beat it last night 🎊🎉 only took me 30+ years
Awesome video! I’ve always wanted to beat Bionic Commando! One of my favorite NES games
It certainly was fun. I want to practice at it more so I can beat it straight up as well
1990.

OOO wow playing it while you were sick too. Glad you got to beat it and get over being sick ha. Definitely a great accomplishment
Congrats! That’s so cool! Always great to beat a childhood game! I can’t begin to count how many I never finished…
I know it, I'm trying my best to go back and complete a bunch I never finished
@@RussLyman That’s awesome though! Better late than never.

Those were an awesome bit of nostalgia for sure. I got a full video on that rental store I was at coming out in the near future too

Had to include that retro footage ha

Right on, Russ -- my favorite part was: Kris, what do I do?
lol Dude the best, coming in clutch to save me ha
I'm super stoked to play this one eventually. Heard nothing but praise, honestly. Also, Penny has a raspy meow just like my mom's cat Stevie lol
Yeah this was a good one to finally get through. Aww yeah I love Penny's meow, I got to visit him more often ha

For me it was Ogre Battle. Took me 30 freaking years. On saturn no less.
offffff, well heck you stuck with it and got the job done
You give me hope. I haven’t beat Bionic Comando
I will say when I live streamed the game I did take advantage of save states which help me process a ton

way to go russ! you are my hero
awwww thanks so much Joe, you rock

Awesome stuff! Hard game for sure.
thanks for checking it out. Indeed, but glad I got to the end
I play this game once every couple years, takes about an hour.
I'd love to get that good at this, I'll have to try and get better at it and beat it without save states
I called my baby Gwenny🎉
It just fits so well ha. 🥰
Congratulations bro. It's been over 30 years for me to land the jet in Top Gun & to beat the 3rd level boss in Blaster Master. I suck.
This game is easier than people remember.
I think it was just an odd concept back than, What do you mean I can't jump lol
Lol it took me that long to beat it too😂
Glad to see I'm not the only one
Congratulations! Divorced parents too. Never give up.
thank you so much Kevin
Love cats who have smoked a pack a day for years! (reddit joke)
Got to love that meow ha 🐱
Based on a true story 😉
