had to come back to this video today as i was having a issue with my bolt running slack on the steering box itself, came to watch how you crimped the flat washer, thanks for taking these videos and keeping them on youtube mike, you're a lifesaver! I was gonna rule it out as a faulty box
Glad it helped
I have the 8mm hole and the slot in the drop arm, but that drop arm slot is too small for an 8mm bolt. Have I got the wrong drop arm?
May be rusted up
Is there a way to lubricate the steering column from the steering wheel down to the 1st knuckle joint?
Take off the steering lock and squirt oil down the tube - there will be a slot in the column. This will only oil the bottom bearing. The universal joints are sealed and cannot be lubricated
@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks for that. 👍
@@BritannicaRestorations So break the shear bolts?
Nice video mike! Do you know if the steering ujoints have a direction they have to go in?
I think they will only go in one way due to the cut on the shaft t let the bolt pass through
@@BritannicaRestorations thanks! One more thing I don't have to check :)
Greetings sir. I have an issue with the turn indicator self cancel. Turning left is right but when it turns right it's not work truly. Is there a solution for this situation. Thank you
Sounds like the cancellation ring on the back of the steering wheel is out of line or the blue ring it sits in is in the wrong position
@@BritannicaRestorations i try to fix it with straight wheels and steering wheel position. I guess trim on the top of the steering bracket pushes it. This time i figured out the problem and fix it i guess. Thanks for your interest. Have a nice weekend. Greetings from Turkey 🇹🇷

What is the size of the steering nut ? what is the best way to take the steering way out ?
34 mm
I found it 22 mm. To my surprise there is no nut lock ! Which means it there is nothing to stop the nut to come out
Hi Mike, The drop arm on my 91 RRC fits in any position, It did come in a blue box is this right ? We don't seem to have much choice when it comes to old RRC's, Also they only last 10-15k miles, I do a lot of reversing my lawn care trailer into property's but I did a lot more with my 40 ton artics and they lasted forever, Keep up the video's.
In all my years I have never see a drop arm without a master spline - in fact there are 4 so you can fit at 90 degrees all the way round
The RHD and the LHD have the master spline in a different place - they will still fit, but the steering is way out!
let me know the part number
Mike
Hi Mike, The part number is STC1044, I took the old one off with the car on the ground so that nothing moved with the wheels straight ahead, but when I offered the drop arm up I noticed it would fit in any position just a few splines either side of the original position. Would it make any difference if the box was not central with the wheels straight ahead ? I've Have had this RRC for 16 years and the one before for 15 years so I've changed a few drop arms in the past this is the first time that I've noticed this. I would have gone for OEM but the blue box was all Paddocks would offer.
Thanks Mike ( The font of all LR knowledge )
Odd
I will have to have a look at a box and arm later today
Mike
Just had a look again at the box and there is no hole for the bolt to go into, I fitted a rebuilt box some14 years ago to stop the dreaded wobble ( it worked ) It came from a reputable workshop It's lasted all this time at least 100000, miles, And I wont say how it's doing I don't want to jinx it. Steve.
The gearbox shaft has external master splines and the drop arm internal
Is your box and Adwest 4 bolt or 3 bolt? That may be different
