    I remember TNN showing these races! This is definitely a bucket list item for sure. Lori Johns wound up racing these as some point.

      Make it a priority to go soon...rumor mill is this may event may not be around much longer due to new housing developments going up next door. There is a Lorrie Johns currently racing, but not the same from drag racing. It's cool to watch in person, but lacks the pit access offered at drag races...unless you purchase the VIP ticket and get a 20 minuted guided tour prior to the start of the event. The Pro Mod Buggies are insane.

      Wow, you got to see this in person? I am jealous. Steve Evans and Brock Yates made that event seem like so much fun I've wanted to see it ever since then.

      Yeah, we've managed to miss these events in the past and made a point to catch one this trip. There are only three events per season; multi-generational teams....fathers, sons, and event wives and girlfriends driving. Quite the spectacle as they make their way around the course. Pit access is limited to those who purchase the VIP ticket, and that is only a 20 minute guided tour pre-race. It's not practical for spectators to roam the pits during the race, as the buggies enter and exit the pits from the course under power. Overall, there are plenty of cool spectator seating vantage points. I enjoyed this view coming out of the turn. Those Pro Mod buggies hit approximately 80 MPH. Cool as all get out.

      The pit thing would suck but still worth seeing. they are under throttle for a long time for such engines!

      LOL....glad he got a kick out of them. They only hold three events each year, and this is the first time we have been able to be in town during one. The Pro Mods were so cool in how they hydroplane their way around the course for so long in those conditions. One of those things you have to see in person at least once.

    Hahaha what the heck? Looking for boats racing at insane speeds in tiny swampy circuits and I find those funny looking trucks driving approximately at human running speed in water... this was entertaining, thanks youtube!

    I wonder if Mark Krantz, Gene Baker or Fred Sharp are still around Naples. If so, Hello from the late 60's and Snake Skins and Motorcycles. :)

    I haven't seen these since I was a kid, what happened to the sippy hole?

    Just out of curiosity. Why is it that whenever I see the jeeps run in any videos I see the safety crew is jogging along side with the jeeps? Are they easy to tip over or just in case the passenger gets nervous of the water going over there head?

    • @DragStripRiot
      @DragStripRiot  6 років тому

      Yep, they do occasionally tip over on the turns..

      Okay...sorry for your luck. What prevented you from completing that run? It was difficult for us to hear all of the classes...do you run Pro Mod or V8 Sportsman? We heard most of the rules limitations for Pro Mods, but nothing about the V8 class. What are the differences? In all the years we have been coming down to Naples to visit our friends, we always managed to miss these events by a week or so. We planned this year's trip to make this March date, and I'm glad we did. Hopefully, we'll make one of the events in 2019 again.

      Drag Strip Riot fuel pump quit which caused it to die in the sippi hole, I run in the sportman class the only difference is the carburetor

    Boy how swamp buggy racing has definitely lost its roots. These are just hydroplanes with big blades on for steering. How is this even a swamp buggy. Try driving through the swamp with one of these fat chance. Back in the 60s and 70s they had real swamp buggies.
