watch me make a custom tray for my 4wd at home on my crushed rock driveway with nothing but the basics. im a chippy so if i can do it you can too.
this video isnt really to show 'how to' but more to encourage people to give it a go themselves even if they dont have the best set up for it.

Nice job on the tray mate. I'm just about to start my build on my 09 dmax. I'm going 1650mm long.
Nice work mate.
All you need to do if your ground isn’t level is level up your chassis Jack and blocking bit of dicking around but makes it easier when working out levels and measurements
👏🏻👏🏻
Awesome job mate, very impressed! Any details about steel / alu you used?
thanks mate, what would you like to know?
Great video mate, just wondering which welder you're using?
It’s an old ESAB mig, power compact 205.
is it legal to use in Australia for building tray at backyard?
Hey mate, how tall were the mounting brackets that you made? Cheers
Cool build! What size tubing did you use?? Thanks!
Sides and headboard 75x50 the rest is 40x40 that’s pretty much it!
Watching this on 4-9-23 would probably cost double for the steel today
hey mate how did you work out how high you wanted the tray mounts? like for how high the tray sits
Made the mounts to a rough length, than clamped the main beams to them and measure to make them sit at the same height as the front flares, than tacked it up
Hey mate, how much did it cost you and what were the measurements? I may of missed it in the video. I’m building a very similar tray to yours on the same rig. Some advice and tips would be highly appreciated aswell mate 🤙
All the steel was about 300 back than (would be more now coz covid) and the ally floor was 300 for the sheet and painted by a mate 600.
Over all side was 1750 wide 1700 long.
Advice would to be think it through heavily, I could’ve saved probably 50$ steel and a couple hours not putting in bits I didn’t need. And if your getting boxes, I’d get them first and make the tray suit them… I should’ve done that!
@@rhyderkennedy That’s a big help mate! Cheers. Are you still kickin with your RC Colorado?
@@BrotherLead nah not anymore, I do miss it though thing was awesome!
@@rhyderkennedy Would be keen to see if you potentially bought another RC and slowly built it up. Would be a mint series, you’ve definitely inspired me with this video alone. I got shit tools and no welding experience but I’ll make it fkn work haha!
Hey mate how did you work out the mounting bracket sizes and heights ?
The mounts to the chassis ?
What thickness steel did you use ?
Around 2mm maybe 2.5, memory is getting vague
how much was the steel?
Under 350 for the whole frame
Umm, umm, umm, umm, umm.
