  • I got this setup in hopes to install it on my little tractor to make steering easier when using the loader, I'm not sure if I can make it fit but I think I can, but so far when I bench test this thing, I can't get it to work, if anyone has any ideas as to why it don't work,, please let me know,

Pleased to hear that you got it working and that there was nothing wrong with either of the components. 😎👍

Personally, I have no idea how that works. But I can see how you might use it on your tractor to help steer it. Good idea and I hope it works.

the problem is , if I get this working, space is pretty limited on the little tractor.

I don't know anything about this particular unit but it is a popular conversion over here to use the electric power steering from a small car. The one that is mostly used over here has an additional wire to control how much power assistance you require and when it is on the car it is speed controlled

    • @MissouriOldTimer
      @MissouriOldTimer  2 роки тому

I think that's kinda what the small wire on this one is supposed to do, but I'm not sure.

I just bought the same one as yours i did the test very same as yours. I its didn't work just hear the click. I brought its to the store. They told me i need to put load in the end side. Tomorrow i will test before intall in my mini van. Hope its work. Your video very helpful. Thank

yes you are right it does need a load on the output side for it to work.

Try putting flat washer style bearings on your spindles. You'll find that your steering will be many times smoother and easier without all the hassle of making major modifications. "Try it you'll like it!"

I can see how that might help. if this does'nt work I 'll try that.

I sell these (and the Nissan and Corolla version) on ebay and have more experience than everyone who comments. A few folks got it right and so do you with electrical connectors.
The way these work is resistance triggers them to 'assist' in the direction you're turning. So with column sitting there on a bench its simply waiting for you to turn the steering wheel AND have some resistance as if wheel is on the ground.
Hook power and ground up only and grab two sets of vice grips, clamp one vice grip to the end to the splines on the steering side (this is the end with nut on your video) and clamp other to rack end spline on the steering shaft. Next have an assistant hold on to one end while you turn the opposite way. It will feel like nothing, because after all its just a steel shaft...next hook up that small accessory wire, this makes the system turn on and click. And do the same turn test with an assistant...be ready!!! The electric power steering is goin to assist the person turning.
Ive sold about 40 columns this year alone. I hope this helps.

See if it is getting power to the steering motor from the relay , if so must be something in the steering assembly

If you here a click when you connect the single wire, ( ignition volt trigger) then you should be good. You need to have resistance on both ends of the shaft. I'd put a pair of vice grips on each end , to give you something to grip

@@akib2542 like another guy mentioned, put a pair of vise grips on the steering wheel shaft and one on the bottom of the assembly , hook it up and have someone hold the bottom pliers and they should not be able to hold the shaft when you turn the top part. that's where I made my mistake, I didn't have a load on the lower shaft.

Have you tried also running a ground to both the module case and the EPS unit body as well. Normally they're bolted to the steel frame of the car body that acts as a ground for all the car's electrics. You've got both modules resting on a coffee table.

I was a dummy, I didn't realize I needed a load on the lower part for the sensors to see that they needed to add assist, but I later found out it actually works right, thanks for commenting.

This probably has nothing to do with your problem. The electric side door on my Venture van stopped
working but I could hear the relay working when I pushed the open button. A week later I noticed another switch pushed in. It was the switch that stopped the door from opening. LOL
