I think its excellent that there are follow up reviews and assessments. I think this is fair and objective for the product , the developers and those that may be thinking of buying. Thanks again ITBS 🙂
In an ideal world, of course every update would be covered, arguably with a new review etc. Unfortunately I just don’t have the time to do that though haha (I generally cover updates more organically with new videos featuring a previously reviewed product). In this case though, as I had a few hours to kill and I’ve been enjoying the Twin Otter + the update came out so quickly, I figured “why not take a look!”. I think the update addressed most of the major issues. The sounds still need some work (I’m hoping they were just a “quick fix”) and there are still a number of areas that could be improved, but the Twin Otter is now more flyable at the very least. It does however currently seem to be the Marmite of MSFS XD Cheers James! : )
Hello, even if I have sometime a hard time to understand your fabulous genuine English accent, (English isn't my mother language and being more US accent used to), I really appreciate your videos, I discovered your network with the DHC--6 video and watched all the previous ones you published after. You're doing a great job on the aircrafts testing, very professionnal and very fair and correct. So from now on I'll be following you for each of your tests The quality of your videos are great, image sound, everything is delightfull. Thanks for your great work, even as an RL flight instructor I lurnt a lot about MSFS 2020 flying.
Hello Serena, Thank you very much indeed for your kind words! Apologies for the accent, it’s the only one I have I’m afraid haha ; ) Really happy you’re enjoying the content though - of course as a creator, that’s always nice to hear! I’m glad you think the reviews are generally fair as well, I certainly try my best to be. Thanks very much for watching and I look forward to seeing you for the next video then! All the best : )
Haha, well I’m not sure this version is going to quite as fun as the real thing TV (I hear it’s great aircraft to fly in the real world), but I hope you enjoy it nevertheless! : ) Have a great weekend!
Thank you for your work on these reviews. They are very helpful and informative for someone like me who is considering picking up these aircraft, not to mention engaging in their own right. It's wonderful to just follow along on your flights as you are very skillful, have a great attention to detail, and your delivery very relaxing.
Thank you very much for the kind words Jenner - my pleasure! I’m really happy you enjoy the flights as well as the reviews themselves. I try my best to make each flight an interesting outing in its own right. As much as I enjoy the reviews, it’s creating the flights themselves, that I really find to be engaging. Thanks very much for watching and all the best to you! : )
Haha, someone else that likes the sounds John?! I thought I was the only one! XD The sounds transitions could still certainly use some work, but I think the sounds themselves are alright overall. . .
Cheers Squirel. Yeah, still work to be done for sure, but personally I’m happy to see that they’ve fixed up most of the “flying” related bugs. The sounds still seem like a bit of a quick fix, but a least my ears won’t be bleeding now, whilst we wait for further updates : P Like yourself, I’ve been enjoying the DHC6 so far nevertheless! : )
Great video, I'm still not totally convinced by the sounds and wish it hadn't been a day 1 purchase for me, but hopefully they'll get the sounds to an acceptable state for most people quickly
@@voidwalker9223 not too sure, they sounded garbage on 1.0 version, and they still sound just as garbage now on 1.0.1 version. starting to think they dont know how to do it.. at this time im more hoping/whishing that some modders out there fix it
@@voidwalker9223 Normally, a company that calls itself "professional" takes the time it takes to do the job well! There was NO RUSH to release this product, unless Aerosoft was in financial trouble, which I highly doubt! The same goes for everything a consumer can buy, otherwise, courts would be crowded... Time is not an excuse...
@@06L That and the way they were talking it up as well, saying how they wanted to take their time to get it right and so on… Combined with the release of the Kodiak from SWS, and the fact people were also looking at the P3D version of the Twin Otter hopes were high this would be just as good. But what we got was honestly a let down, the sound and lack of animations is what I’d expect from a freeware frankly.
Nice video and appreciate you coming back and keeping us informed after the recent patch. Thank you. I am sure Aerosoft will continue to update this aircraft as they do with many more. Their reputation as a developer for MSFS is very good. As long as their teams are given the time and tools to produce quality products and try to avoid rushed releases.
Thanks I.T Mann, Yes, unfortunately I don’t usually have time to cover product updates, but on this occasion I did; I’ve been enjoying the Twotter and I figured since it was still so close to release, this video would make a reasonable addition to my overall coverage of the aircraft. As you say, I’ve generally been happy with all of my Aerosoft products in the past, so hopefully given time, the team will get the Twin Otter up to the standard it ought to be. Cheers and all the best! : )
Oh my goodness, the forums were right, there is a muffled conversation at the end of the shutdown sounds. You can hear it at 31:58 as the one shut down, then a few seconds later as the other shuts down.
Haha! I put that down to background noise at home XD That miiiight be FSRealistic’s cabin ambiance function to be fair (I was using it during the flight), but if other people have been experiencing it as well, perhaps it is actually an unwanted artefact. Kind of crazy if it is. . . (I shall investigate further). Cheers Joe!
Nice follow-up. I have to agree that the only major update would be engine sounds, other than that, it's pretty well good to go. One additional comment/request is that it would be nice if you would post the airport codes in the description. You do a GREAT job of choosing an appropriate airport and I can't remember them and a list is difficult. I am always on your channel to I could scan the videos and fly appropriately. Thanks again! !! !!!
Thanks again Mark! Yep, still some work to be done for sure and I’m hoping the sounds were just a “quick fix”, but most of the significant “flying” related bugs have been fixed and it’s good to see that Aerosoft changed their mind on a few things. . . I will try and remember your request going forward - it’s certainly a very valid one! For what it’s worth, I think this flight was from BIAR to BITN (if memory serves me correctly). Thanks again for watching! : )
I love the visual quality of the Aerosoft Twin Otter (in new update, what are those 2 switches in the cockpit side windows!?! 20:58 ). But is "better" enough for engine sound? Not yet. There is still an obvious mix between the 3 original sounds (low/mid and high power) while the transition from low to high frequencies (RPM) should be more linear. All aircraft engines change sound frequency even on a difference of only 100 RPM, which is still not the case for the Twin Otter. They just mixed the 3 sounds over a wider range. If Aerosoft does not completely redo their engines sounds, it will always remain an obvious patch on a basic default and from now on, I will be very careful before buying "instantly" an Aerosoft product which I considered before this Twin Otter as a guarantee of quality...
I think you’re absolutely right 06L. I do think the sounds are an “improvement” (I’m not damaging my hearing anymore for one thing haha), but clearly there is still work to be done (and I assume / hope that this isn’t “it”). I’m going to give Aerosoft the benefit of the doubt for now and assume this was a “quick fix”, I’m pleased to see they quickly fixed up most of the “flying” related bugs at any rate (not that they should have been there in the first place ideally). I agree though, surprising behaviour from them. I gather WWISE is not an easy system to work with, but sounds actually used to be a real strengths of Aerosoft’s in the past, so it’s all a bit strange. . . Fingers crossed they continue to work on the Twin Otter. All the best! : ) PS, didn’t spot the switches, I shall have to investigate haha
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Phew! For a moment, you made me doubt if I was hallucinating. On the side windows of the cockpit, there is blocks of plexiglass with 2 pins inside (which look like 2 switches). It's rather badly made (way much too transparent), but it's not Aerosoft's fault, I've seen other unrealistic acrylic blocks on other planes in MFS (ex: small ventilation openings). Thanks for your reply! -An enthusiastic subscriber.
Thanks very much PA! Haha, well the Twin Otter seems to have opinions very much divided at the moment; some people are enjoying it and some people aren’t best pleased with it. The aircraft did release with quite a few bugs / omissions, so I can see why some people aren’t happy. Personally I’ve been finding it a lot of fun though all the same. Cheers! : )
This plane fills a ridiculous void. A twin turboprop bush plane. Now, it does feel a bit… game-y when I test its limits, but it is beautiful when I fly it properly. But really, this, like the P-38, gives the yoke a chance to do what a stick would in other planes. It is a really fun beast. A crazy workhorse for the world Asobo gave us. It really fills a void.
Yep, I completely agree Tori. Is the Twin Otter perfect? For sure no. Is it great fun to fly and a brilliant option for exploring the MSFS world? Absolutely! It definitely fills a void. All the best! : )
Hi, thanks for the update. I agree that the fixes, including the sound, have made a difference. Let’s hope Aerosoft continue working on the engine sounds to make it even better.
Thanks Peter! Indeed. The Twin Otter still isn’t perfect, but the update fixed up most of the major issues. I’m hoping the sounds were a “quick fix”, they’re better, but could still use quite a bit of work. As you say, hopefully Aerosoft will continue to work on the aircraft - at least they’ve had a change of heart on some of its issues (it would seem). Cheers and all the best : )
You’re most welcome Lior, thanks for watching! I think the update is certainly a step in the right direction overall. I’m hoping the sounds were just a “quick fix”, as they could certainly still use some work, but otherwise most of the major bugs seem to have been fixed. Happy flying! : )
3:34 everyone knows when you introduce fuel that makes the engine go almost silent... Oh well, I'll continue to hold off. I understand they don't want the in flight engine sounds to deafean you but this is often solved with a 'headset' you click on to quieten sounds when you actually want to fly - no need to make the startup sound like a desk fan.
I think any real Twin Otter pilot will tell you that beyond the visual eye candy the simulated model bares little resemblance to real life in terms of aerodynamics and power ops. 2 examples in a test I did recently on the wheels 300: Impossible to redline at full RPM and pitch settings and operating in -20c with ice and snow on the airframe for 30= minutes has no impact on then aircraft whatsoever...unless I'm missing something here. So, in short, much of the checklist items are inconsequential, purely animations for effect. Perhaps im expecting too much :)
@@microsoftflightsimulator2052 I don't think you're expecting too much mate. The three levels are : study - hybrid - arcade. This plane is on the arcade side whereas developers like SWS, Milviz, pmdg etc are releasing planes between the study - hybrid (closer to study) level. Which we can all enjoy because checklists matter. This is why we play flight Sims. Otherwise we can just install GTA V and fly arcade on there with no checklists. Just select some favourite developers and keep buying from them only.
@@microsoftflightsimulator2052 nope, you are asking for the right amount from a flight simulator and a third party addon for a flight simulator. I’m probably not going to be giving Aerosoft any more money as their attitude seems to have shifted to only do enough work to please the people that don’t even care for realism, if that. And just in case anyone mentions it, yes I know the CRJ is a much better product than this and I do have that though I haven’t had been able to give time to it yet, but even that I hear has some issues that they haven’t fixed still.
Again, thanks. I did buy this aircraft but have only have about 2 hrs in it so far. I appreciate all you are doing with this series, you are my flight instructor for the DHC-6. BTW, you stuck that landing!
My pleasure once again Darrell! I hope you’ve been getting on well with the DHC6 in the mean time. Luckily for me, the Twin Otter is a reasonably easy aircraft to land, that always helps ; ) Happy flying! : )
Thank you for the quick update, really appreciate that :) Sounds are still the weakest point of this package. But besides that I am really starting to enjoy the Twin Otter, especially the feeling of sitting in the cockpit with TrackIR enabled.
My pleasure Volker! Unfortunately I often don’t get the time to cover updates etc, but I had some free time and as I’ve been enjoying the Twin Otter, I thought we’d see what Aerosoft had managed to achieve. I agree that the sounds still need some work, I’m hoping that was just a bit of a “quick fix” for the time being. At least many of the “flying” related bugs have been fixed up now. Happy flying! : )
Hehe, happy to hear it R3D! It seems all of the Icelandic controllers were taking a day off on that day, so the Norwegians had to fill in for them ; ) All the best! : )
Ah great! I’m glad they didn’t take too long with it. The update isn’t perfect, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction overall. Hope you got on ok with it Ken. All the best! : )
Well, that was a welcome surprise, ( I mean the update) I’ll check out the update later today, I didn’t see an alert from Aerosoft which is the place I purchased from?as usual excellent presentation a measured and fair review, it appears many are commenting on sound issues still with engines.credit where credit is due however at least A/S in quick order issued an update hopefully another to follow. Thanks ITBS and all who have contributed since release initially, I hope Aerosoft continue to listen. Kind regards to all Charlie (UK)
Indeed Charlie! I certainly wouldn’t consider the Twin Otter “finished” yet, but it’s great to see that Aerosoft were at least expeditious in fixing up many of the aircrafts major issues. I’m assuming the sounds were a “quick fix” for the time being - they’re better, but the transitions could certainly still use some work. Onwards and upwards! All the best : )
Thank you for this this update and the nice flight! I'm still thinking of buying it, it seems to be good for this kind of money. And I'm not picky about sounds in airplanes.
My pleasure Peter, glad you enjoyed it! The Twin Otter is far from perfect, but I think it’s been getting an unduly rough time overall. There are certain aspects of the aircraft that are disappointing, but it’s great fun, versatile in the sim and has enough depth that one can reasonably simulate operating the aircraft. Certainly if the sound issues don’t bother you, I suspect you’ll enjoy it : ) Cheers and all the best!
Haha, well I do have a HOTAS setup, but I just find it easier to operate some controls that way from time to time. I completely agree though; it’s much more immersive to use hardware over the mouse where possible. Cheers! : )
Thank you sir! : ) Yep, very much agree. “A step in the right direction”, but there’s definitely still work to be done. I’m hoping the Update 1 sounds were just a “quick fix” for the time being. . . Still, some other decent fixes with the update; fingers crossed that Aerosoft continue to work on the aircraft. All the best!
Have any of you noticed that the ailerons are animated in reverse to their actual function? The aircraft still turns in the correct commanded direction, left is left and right is right, but the ailerons move in reverse... Left is right and Right is left. (Left aileron deflects DOWN in left turn, supposed to deflect UP)... I can overlook this problem for now but I hope they fix it...
I missed that one myself at the time, but you are indeed correct (and a few others have mentioned the same thing). A bit of a weird bug to slip through (especially since I don’t believe it existed on the initial release version). Obviously not ideal, so hopefully Aerosoft will get that fixed up (I’m sure they will). Cheers! All the best : )
My pleasure DF! Haha, I have been meaning to do something with the Ryan ST-A for a long long time now. I'm not planning a review, as I think that point has passed, but I do have an idea for the aircraft. I'm afraid I have no idea if / when I might get around to it though. Cheers and all the best! : )
Just picked this up as a casual flyer and yeah the sounds need a lot of work, transitions are one thing but it's also incredibly loud, i thought the Hawk T1 was pretty loud but this is insane.
@cikame there are plenty of in-cabin Twotter videos on youtube. it is incredibly loud in real life. for instance, ua-cam.com/video/nRyHHf6pP0A/v-deo.html
Hi Cikame, Did you purchase the Twin Otter through the in-sim Marketplace? I believe the Marketplace version has yet to be patched up. The original sounds were indeed overly loud, as compared with other addons, but I have found that this update has pretty much taken care of that (and the volume levels are now much more balanced with other sim aircraft / addons). All the best!
Another great flight. Glad they fixed most of the bugs and hope they arrive quickly to the marketplace. Your flying skill and level of control is certainly something to aspire to! Can I ask what your rudder settings are in the sim? I find the yaw axis the most difficult to control. Often very small inputs on my pedals have rather extreme effects ingame.
Thanks very much Øystein! Glad you enjoyed the flight and thought my flying was alright to boot ; ) Rudder sensitivity is indeed (still) an issue in the sim. I use a -50 curve on my rudder axis, to try and mitigate this to some degree; it’s not a perfect solution, but it certainly helps - might be worth giving a try : ) Thanks again and all the best!
Yep, the sounds definitely still need some work Andrew. I think the update is an “improvement”, but I’m hoping this was just a quick fix from Aerosoft - the sounds still aren’t where they need to be. All the best!
you should probably add some boiler-plate to the "about" text explaining that the background radio chatter is an overdub of prerecorded real-world ATC, since inevitably at least a few users will ask what addon you're using. :)
Haha, I think you’re right Bernard! I was thinking the same myself, but then I wondered how many people might actually read it. Still, can’t hurt and would save me a bit of typing! XD Cheers!
Haha, that's great to hear Reece! Happy to hear you're still enjoying the sim : ) I have been meaning to do exactly that flight actually, but I never seem to have any time for personal simming at the moment. I'll get around to it one day haha. . . All the best! PS, I know I still owe you and email ; )
Good question TL. I didn’t cover it in the video and I’m afraid I’m not actually sure myself. I’ve done some reading around, to try and figure it out, but haven’t been able to find any specifics as to its location. Apologies on that. All the best!
Thinking of getting this to expand my GA hangar, but trying to avoid junk (Paying for little more than a 3d model). The likes of the 310R, Cessna 414, and the JF arrows have spoiled me. Has this been updated any further in the last 10 months?
Hi GunnDawg, The Twin Otter was actually updated very recently, primarily with a new soundpack. It just so happens that I revisited the aircraft over Christmas, so you might find that video somewhat useful: ua-cam.com/video/Tu9f72cWkcU/v-deo.html The Twin Otter certainly isn't junk, but neither is it done to the same standard as the other addons that you mention (most of what I mentioned in my original review is still valid). I believe the Twotter is still on sale (ending today) and for that sort of money, I think the aircraft offers up an enjoyable (though somewhat simplified) experience. I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
Hi Thomas, The mesh I was using is the freeware Orbx Iceland mesh, available for the sim (via Orbx Central). The departure airport is freeware, available from Flightsim.to and the arrival airport is a payware scenery from Skytitude. I hope that helps clarify things a little. All the best! : )
Hi Ronny, The ATC recordings are from LiveATC.net, I then edited them into the video. I believe there is also an ATC chatter app available for MSFS though, if that’s the sort of thing you’re after. . . Hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
The external sound of the engines is far too quiet: I hope that is because you have engine sounds turned down in the sim, otherwise you would hear far louder sound when outside the aircraft, particularly when you are so close.
Yeah, that’s my doing MegaPeedee. I had to turn the sounds down quite a bit, particularly externally, to try and balance the audio throughout the video; otherwise you poor guys (especially headphone users) are going to get deafened every time there’s an external shot of the aircraft. It’s not ideal for demonstrating the sounds, but some compromises have to be made. Hope that clears things up. All the best! : )
Thanks for another informative video. I see we have almost the same specs. Are you running any OC on your CPU? I cant seem to notice any paticual imrpovement with CPU overclocking in the sim.
Hi Ramy, cheers - my pleasure! I’m not running an overlook myself. I got the CPU fairly recently and I’m quite happy with how the sim is running at the moment. I figure I might look into overlooking it somewhere further down the line. I’m hoping DX12 will bring some performance improvements, some time in the future. All the best : )
Thanks for you review and thoughts 💭 I must admit, little disappointed earlier. Hopefully this 1st patch will correct some must urgent issues. You wonder, how can release an aircraft not fully tested ? Anyway, as long as everything will be fixed…before Xmas :)
My pleasure Ronnie! Yeah, I think most of us were disappointed (to varying degrees) with the Twin Otter on release. I’ve very much been enjoying the aircraft, but it wasn’t completed to the level of quality I would have expected from Aerosoft. Nonetheless, it’s great to see them get to work and quickly patch up the most significant issues. I think the sounds were still a bit of a “quick fix” and hopefully we will continue to see them work on those (in conjunction with other areas of the product). Cheers! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Unsure if patch available in Content Manager, wasn’t in the morning. Some people say, it’s better but still work to be done. I’ll leave in the hanger for now, push out PMDG DG-6 instead. At least with that company, everything is top notch and works to perfection. So feel little blue at the moment :(
I don’t think the patch is available in-sim yet I’m afraid Ronnie. That’s a very fair summation though; it’s an improvement, but there’s definitely still more work to be done (I would hope). It’s not an ideal situation for sure, but have fun flying the DC-6 in the mean time! : )
Hi Calinutza, The ATC is real-world recordings (from LiveATC.net), which I’ve then edited into the video. There is actually an ATC chatter app available for MSFS though, if that’s the sort of thing you’re after : ) I hope that helps. Happy flying and all the best!
Hi TY, With regards to the Twin Otter specifically, I have no idea how it’s done in the real world but, I carried out the startup as per the provided checklist. I believe some turboprops are started in feather as (unlike with a piston engine) for a free-turbine TP, you aren’t putting any additional stress on the engine. I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best! : )
“Yes” would be the short answer I’m afraid BD haha. Nothing has been updated (in terms of the sounds) since this video was recorded. Aerosoft are apparently having trouble finding a Twin Otter for recording purposes, so it may be that the sounds aren’t improved any further (time will tell). Cheers and all the best : )
Thanks for this. Great to see not only the preview and original review, but also a super-quick follow-up on the first patch. Aerosoft have indeed got a quick and significant update out, but they REALLY had to. It was pretty poor on release. The sounds have improved, but they're still not great. I could still here the flaps hydraulic sounds not tying up with your input. I'm confused about the sounds, and why they seem to have such an issue with them? We've had plenty of bad sounding planes, but they're not usually janky or out of sync with the reletive input - just bad. I've not come across a dev. (particularly such a renowned one) have such trouble getting sounds smooth or in time. Weird.
Thanks Stwutter, Unfortunately I don’t generally have the time to cover product updates, but I did on this occasion and as I’ve been enjoying the Twin Otter + the update was so close to release, I thought it would make for a reasonable addition to my coverage of the aircraft. I agree, that the patch was a necessity and really just brought the aircraft up to where it should have been on release (for the most part). I’m still glad they did it though; it seemed like initially they were going to stick to their guns and keep the aircraft “Xbox compatible”. Most of the major “flying” related issues were at least fixed up. I’m assuming the sounds were just a “quick fix” for the time being; they are improved, but could certainly still use some work. It is strange that such an established developer struggled to produce a quality sound-set. I gather WWISE isn’t the easiest system to work with, but they seemed to manage ok with the CRJ. That being said, the CRJ is far from one of the best sounding aircraft in the sim. Aerosoft used to make some of the best sounding addons back in the day. . . Ah well, fingers crossed the Twotter continues to develop! All the best : )
Weird... I hear this distinct air hissing/whoosing sound. Like a fan is running loudly, or there is a hole in the plane and air is leaking out. But I don't hear this sound in your video. Do you have sounds set at different levels, or are they all set to same level in your settings? Something definitely different from my audio vs. the one in your video.
Hi Vograx, Hmm that is odd. If memory serves me correctly, I have the sim volume levels all at default. I do turn the sounds down during editing though, to equalise them a little better with the audio. Haven’t noticed a hissing myself. . . You aren’t running FSRealistic are you? Actually, just thinking about it; I didn’t have the cabin fan, vent fan etc running during the flight - perhaps you did and that’s accounting for the difference in audio? All the best! : )
Hi Whammo, I’m using real-world ATC recordings from LiveATC.net and then editing them into the video. I believe there is an MSFS ATC chatter app available though, if that’s the sort of thing you’re after. . . All the best! : )
Hi ZimZimmer, I’m actually using a head-tracking device called “TrackIR”. It’s great for this sort of thing, a little pricey though. There are some other cheaper / freeware alternatives available, should you wish to give head-tracking a try for yourself. Cheers : )
No, they aren’t unfortunately Dave. If purchased through the MSFS store, when the update becomes available, you will need to go into “Profile” and then “Content Manager”, you will then be given a list of modules with available updates. I hope that helps a bit. All the best! : )
Hi, many thanks for yet another extremely thorough and informative review. Quick question on this and the other Twin Otter reviews, I really enjoy the authentic sounding ATC chatter in the background. Is that an add-on, if so can you please provide details?
Hi BRITinUS, Thank very much, glad you found the video of use : ) The ATC is actually just real-world recordings from LiveATC.net, that I’ve then edited into the video. I believe there is also an ATC chatter app available for MSFS though, if that’s the sort of thing you’re after. I hope that clarifies things a little. Cheers and all the best!
Thanks very much holobolo! Glad you enjoyed it. It is indeed real-world ATC in the background. I’ve taken it from LiveATC.net and then edited into the video. I believe there is also an ATC chatter app available for MSFS though, if that’s the sort of thing you’re after. Cheers! : )
I dont know if this is a bug within MS 2020 but none of my twin otter aircraft will move off the runway it's like there are stuck fast and the engines wind down. I've restarted refueled but the fuel levers will shoot back and stay in the off position. No other aircraft behaves this way. Even when I load a flight at altitude the engines cut out. I havent seen anything over at the Aeosoft forums or the MS2020 ones. It's doing my head in as I can't use any of these aircraft. Would be grateful for any help.
Hi Merlin, Worth asking first, are you running the most up to date version of the Twin Otter? I just flew the Twotter again recently and no issues (excuse the Christmas theme haha): ua-cam.com/video/Tu9f72cWkcU/v-deo.html If I had to guess, that sounds like a hardware setup issue to me. If you fuel levers are constantly moving to cutoff, as soon as you load up the aircraft, I suspect you have a rogue hardware binding that's causing them to do so. Could that be a possibility? Let me know what you think / find. All the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thank you for the reply, it was indeed that. For some reason the sim kept loading a default X52 profile where an axis was assigned to mixture and that was the problem. Took me ages to figure it out🙄. Thanks again.
Been using this a lot in the last few days, really like it but yeah the engine sounds needed work (goes from loads of noise to nothing at all at a particular point in the throttle travel). If this patch has been released last couple of days I’d have expected an email from Aerosoft to tell me to download it. Will check later. Edit, yep update installed will have a go later. Is that ATC chatter a mod?
Yeah, I’m in the same camp Mark; enjoying the aircraft, but there are areas that need work (the sound transitions being one of the main ones). The patch is an improvement, but there’s definitely still work to be done. I’m assuming / hoping this was a little bit of a “quick fix” for the time being. The ATC is real world recordings from LiveATC.net, that I’ve then edited into the video. I believe there is an ATC chatter app available for MSFS though. All the best! : )
Hi Sneeky, Not really sure on that one myself, it’s been a while since I’ve flown the CJ4, so I can’t really remember what it sounds like. The good news is, Aerosoft are planning on a complete overhaul of the aircrafts engine sounds (great that they finally changed their minds on that one), so hopefully things will be much improved at some point. Cheers, all the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations That really is great news indeed! I look forward to that being released and will definitly be purchasing it then. Until then i just bought the kodiak and man am i liking it. Thanks for the response! Cheers!
Hi Ronnie, Sorry I’m afraid I can’t, as I don’t own the TCA setup myself (I’m using the Warthog). I think my sim actually looks better in videos than it does in reality haha (although it doesn’t look bad); I think the UA-cam compression hides a lot of the blemishes. All the best! : )
This review is a little bit too nice I would say. The sound mix is still horrendous and the patch just replaced old problems with new ones, for example the silent engines after startup, the sudden thrust sound when you go idle before landing etc.
Fair enough Mrmisterno. Of course these videos are always my opinion at the end of the day and they aren’t always going to align with others. I can certainly see where you’re coming from. The sounds do indeed still need a lot of work, I had assumed they were a bit of a “quick fix”, but they were at least reduced to tolerable levels and a few issues were sorted. I gather Aerosoft will in fact be re-recording the sounds entirely now, so at least they got the message on that one. Otherwise, most of the significant “flying” related bugs seemed to have been fixed up, which I thought was a positive (of course ideally they wouldn’t have been there in the first place though). The whole aircraft could certainly have been better and was a disappointment for many I know. I knew ahead of time, what Aerosoft were claiming the product would be, so I was never expecting anything more than something to have fun in. I would still say that the aircraft ticks that box for me (of course I would have preferred if it had been higher fidelity though). Again, totally understand your opinion, just trying to clarify mine a little. All the best! : )
Fair enough Kaiser. I’ve tried to explain myself a little bit to MrMisterno. At the end of the day I’m British - scathing criticism is not our forte : P Cheers!
Not entirely sure LolBit, as I don’t own an Xbox. My understanding is that it’s intended for release on Xbox, but hasn’t been just yet. All the best! : )
Man, I'm so on the fence on buying this plane... It ticks about every box of things I want from a multipurpose aircraft (specialy the ambhibian version) for my imaginary Indiana Jones like bush exploration trips. lol But I keep hearing very worrying stuff about the simulation depth and flight model being "gamey". Also, I really would like to know if this is the end of the road in terms of it's development. Are they going to add a little more stuff or is it just some fixes and calling it quits?! I also had an eye on the Kodiak which looks WAY more detailed and realistic for the same price. But I really want a small, amphibian twin prop, maybe there is another similar plane in development that I don't know about? I wouldn't mind waiting a little if that's the case. If anyone knows please tell me. I'm also pretty broke so it is a: buy a plane and stick with it situation right now.
Hi NEB, Alas I don't think the Twin Otter is going to see much further development. I enjoy the aircraft for what it is, but most of what you have heard is true. The Kodiak is a very nice offering indeed. There is supposed to be a float version at some point, though I gather it has been delayed (and will cost extra at any rate). Have you considered the Big Radials Grumman Goose? It sounds like it would tick all of your boxes (especially if you're going for an Indiana Jones vibe) and it's very affordable to boot: ua-cam.com/video/s_96A9dy--M/v-deo.html I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Hey, thx for the answer. I actually considered the Goose for a while and I also watched your video on it. The thing is I had a "project" in mind which basically is to fly around the world without having to "teleport" somewhere because I can't cross over some places. And I was not sure if the goose would work out, but I had no doubt about the twin otter. Also I like punishing myself with really insane bush landings which seem to be a little more realistic doing in a otter. So I ended up buying the otter and I started my journey in south Germany, to Calais, flew all over England and Scotland, crossed over to Iceland, then Greenland and now I'm in the middle of nowhere Canada (Nahanni National park reserve actually) on my way to Alaska. So far I'm really liking the otter. But there sure are some bugs, specialy audio. I think it's fine, although it should be a little cheaper considering you can get the Kodiak which in quality is way better for the same price. But my patience failed me this time.😂 It's also surprisingly easy to fly but maybe that's just me coming from the DCS F-14b which is NOT easy to fly. But again, thank you for the reply. I definitly will be tuning in for more of your videos.
Ahh ok, you’re most welcome - apologies for the slow reply though haha. Again, I quite enjoy the Twotter overall for what it is and apparently a sound update is in the works. It seems like the aircraft does what you’re looking for and I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Best of luck with the world tour! I did one a couple of years ago; it’s quite an undertaking, but a very rewarding experience overall - it would have been much quicker in the F-14 though : P Cheers and all the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Well let's hope for the best regarding the update. I really didn't even expect a reply (maybe from other viewers) since it is an almost 4 month old video and having lots of comments under every single video is pretty impossible to respond to everyone. Also, bushlanding an F-14b MIGHT work in the most perfect circumstances possible if you are literally "THE PILOT". But once you touched down prepare yourself to build a shack below the plane, craft a spear and make yourself a Wilson because unless you have a whole maintanance crew and equipment somewhere that plane will stay grounded for life!😂
Hi True Blade. Instruments, no (I didn’t notice it until someone mentioned, now I can’t un-see it haha). As to the windshield, someone else mentioned the same thing, but I’m not so sure on that one. There is definitely a texture and some detailing there (heating elements for example). Sadly, it’s not the only MSFS aircraft; as we now also have the Fokker F VII with no instrument glass (which I assume is inaccurate). Constantly pushing the boundaries in MSFS! . . just in the wrong direction XD All the best!
@Into the Blue Simulations Easy way to see. Is there a reflection in the dark ? Some devs use baked in reflections and some overdo it. Looks like AS haven't bothered at all.
Ah I see what you mean True Blade. Haven’t flown the aircraft at night yet myself but yes, there does seem to be a lack of reflections. As you say, oftentimes it gets overdone, but it certainly looks great when it’s done correctly. I wonder whether it’s another “Xbox sacrifice” that “had” to be made. . . Have a great weekend!
Hi Destry, It doesn’t no. I updated via the Aerosoft “One” app (I think that’s what they call it), otherwise you will either have to update it via your chosen provider, or perhaps reinstall entirely. If purchased through the sim, you will need to wait until the update is made available (it isn’t currently) and then update via the content manager. I hope that helps a little. All the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations yes i saw the update in the aerosoft one app. But for some reason when i try to update it, it says that it cant find the driver that the aircraft is installed on👎. That is very weird. Do u know by any chance what the problem might be?
Hmmm, that is strange Destry. . . Did you happen to install the aircraft onto an external hard drive? I can’t think what else might be causing the issue I’m afraid. Have you checked in settings (I assume the app has a settings menu), that the app is correctly pointed towards your sim installation etc? Cheers!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Hey, i turned of the antivirus that whas already pre installed on my laptop, and i guess that was the problem. Cause after that the update worked. So idk that was weird🤷♂️. But im glad it worked out! Thnx for the help tho👊
Hi Ken, The update is only currently available for people who purchased the aircraft outside of the sim (I’m guessing you purchased through the Marketplace?). I’m not sure when the Marketplace update will be available I’m afraid, hopefully you won’t have too long to wait. All the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thanks; yeah I debated buying directly from Aerosoft; but decided to go with "Marketplace" as previous purchases had no issues and were updated eventually; trying to stick to one payware source though may get the Kodiak Quest :) Enjoy your flights!
Fair enough Ken, I think quite a few people are trying to stick with the Marketplace as their one source for addons. Makes sense, keeps things simple. That was my plan originally haha; doing all the product reviews though, it simply wasn’t feasible. Cheers and all the best to you! : )
You checked everything EXCEPT for the ailerons because they moving the wrong direction. You fix that by yourself when u open the file 'DHC6_Exterior.xml' in the AS_Aircraft_DHC6_Common/ModelBehaviorDefs folder. There you see a lot of code. Dont panic...just add the following marked line to it: DHC6_aileron_left DHC6_aileron_left True
Haha, indeed MStreppelhoff, missed that one! Usually I do the flight control check internally, but you can’t really see the flight controls from the cockpit of the DHC6, so I missed it entirely. Thanks very much for the info and the fix though! All the best : )
Hi Phil, Well they were added in by me, just to try and add a little more immersion into the video haha. The ATC sounds certainly aren’t part of the addon, so you shouldn’t have any worries there ; ) All the best
@@IntotheBlueSimulations oh okay, my apologies. I thought you would be flying with these noises going off while you were also trying to negotiate your own ATC communications. You have a great channel. Thanks for the reply, cheers to you.
Haha, that’s quite alright Phil, I’ve heard far worse XD Thank you very much for the kind words, I’m glad you’re enjoying the content! All the best : )
i must say i am highly dubious of Aerosoft's claim that engine feathering "won't work on Xbox" and thus can't be implemented. exactly why wouldn't it work on the Xbox?
I have to say, likewise Bernard. I believe Aerosoft’s reasoning was not that it wouldn’t work, but that it would place too much strain on the consoles memory requirements (or something along those lines). They said the same about the trim wheel animation, but they’ve now included that soooo. . . A few other devs have also stated that they find this line of reasoning “questionable”. As I understand it, the PMDG DC-6 was a carbon copy of the PC version - and we all know how complex that one is (ok it did have its issues, but that was a whole other story). I think most PC users concern was not whether it would or wouldn’t work on Xbox, but why that meant it had to be axed from the PC version? All the best!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations just to necro this thread, i've now watched a recent MSFS dev stream which is quite illuminating and also quite encouraging. firstly at ua-cam.com/video/jX6ftFBU0Q4/v-deo.html Seb Wloch discusses upcoming native support for laminar flow/propwash/feathering, replacing the current FSX-based hard-coded nonsense, and at ua-cam.com/video/jX6ftFBU0Q4/v-deo.html Jeorg Neumann explains exactly why the DC-6, Twin Otter and CRJ (all of which have C++ coded behaviours) don't currently work on Xbox, and further how the Xbox platform team is working to remedy this by permitting C++ code to run on the Xbox sandbox.
I’m not quite sure what that’s all about Prattpt6. Aerosoft claim that they had to do away with such animations to make the aircraft Xbox compatible, but they said the same about the trim wheel etc - and that’s now working. I’ve seen a couple of other (trustworthy) devs state that this claim is questionable at best; so who knows what’s going on. One thing is for sure though, the sim can definitely handle it. . . All the best!
I am in process of getting a refund from Aerosoft for the Twin Otter. I am just disappointed with the overall quality. Its not just the sound, its the whole package. Its a shame as could have been amazing, but it just isn't. It just feels half baked and no real depth. I'll stick with the planes with greater depth, but hope that Aerosoft learns a lesson that longer term customer loyalty only comes from listening to it's customers.
Hi Andy, Sorry to hear you aren’t happy with the addon, understandable though - I’m glad you’ll be able to get a refund at least. I went into this knowing that the MSFS Twin Otter was not going to be to the same standards as the P3D extended version (Aerosoft could have been clearer about this though). As a result, I was only ever picking up the Twotter to carry out some fun flights (and for me it ticks that box). As an accurate simulation of the Twin Otter, it is obviously left wanting. . . It seems Aerosoft have lost interest in creating accurate simulations of aircraft (their own words more or less), now that they’ve seen how much money there is to be made elsewhere. That’s certainly a shame, but I’m not too concerned; the new kids on the block (FlyingIron, SWS etc) seem to be doing a more than fine job of filling the void! For sure Aerosoft (and indeed other developers) can’t expect to have their cake and eat it. If they don’t produce quality, high-fidelity replicas of the aircraft they recreate, then a large part of the simming community will look elsewhere. . . Good luck with the refund. At least once that’s gone through, it will only have cost you a little bit of time and some disappointment. All the best!
I recognize the start sound they used. It is generic from a freeware porter for fs 2004. Pretty disappointing aerosoft has gone to this low level to not even bother recording their own sounds.
I recognise the start sounds as well Spaghetti. I think they’re originally from one of the default FS9 aircraft (actually, maybe even as far back as FS2000 if memory serves me correctly). It could just be that they just sound *incredibly* similar, but it’s uncanny. Either way, the sounds obviously aren’t up to scratch, but apparently Aerosoft have now decided to fully re-work them, so that’s something at least. . . Cheers, all the best! : )
Unfortunately this is not worth the purchase price, even after the first patch has been applied. Sound issues aside (and there are still some showstoppers there), the flight model is pretty much the definition of "flies-like-it's-on-rails". The twin Otter is indeed a stable aircraft but this one responds like an arcade game. Easily the most disappointing payware I've purchased for MSFS. Not too sure what Aerosoft was thinking here; if this is supposed to have been vetted by real-world DHC-6 pilots it doesn't seem as though any of that feedback was implemented.
I can definitely see where you’re coming from Dan and I know a lot of people were disappointed with this one. For me personally, I’ve been very much enjoying it, but really just as something to have fun in, fly to some interesting places etc, obviously it’s not an accurate recreation of the Twin Otter (sadly). The sound issues are definitely still there, but I think the patch was a bit of a “quick fix” - Aerosoft are apparently now planning to re-record all of the sounds (which is good to hear). As for; “tested by real pilots” - I’ve learned to take that with a pinch of salt. Most addons make that claim these days, but it doesn’t always translate into a believable flight model. That being said, I believe that Aerosoft did in fact do such testing (from what I’ve read). Sorry to hear you aren’t enjoying it though, I can understand why. . . All the best!
Oh I totally agree that the sounds still need work Arthur. I would say that they are “improved”, but I’m hoping this was just a “quick fix” from Aerosoft, as the transitions (at the very least) are definitely still sub-par. All the best!
It does however currently seem to be the Marmite of MSFS XD
Cheers James!
So from now on I'll be following you for each of your tests
The quality of your videos are great, image sound, everything is delightfull.
Thanks for your great work, even as an RL flight instructor I lurnt a lot about MSFS 2020 flying.
Hello Serena,
Thank you very much indeed for your kind words! Apologies for the accent, it’s the only one I have I’m afraid haha ; )
Really happy you’re enjoying the content though - of course as a creator, that’s always nice to hear! I’m glad you think the reviews are generally fair as well, I certainly try my best to be.
Thanks very much for watching and I look forward to seeing you for the next video then!
All the best : )
Just got msfs. Excited to fly the otter. I fly it at work, can’t wait to try it out here!
Haha, well I’m not sure this version is going to quite as fun as the real thing TV (I hear it’s great aircraft to fly in the real world), but I hope you enjoy it nevertheless! : )
Have a great weekend!
Really like the sound of the props at departure - wonderful!
Plus a superb demonstration, many thanks.
Haha, someone else that likes the sounds John?! I thought I was the only one! XD
The sounds transitions could still certainly use some work, but I think the sounds themselves are alright overall. . .
Ah well thank you very much, my pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it : )
All the best!
Thanks for another video. Great to see that Aerosoft are listening and attending to issues promptly. I've enjoyed flying her so far. 🙂
Cheers Squirel. Yeah, still work to be done for sure, but personally I’m happy to see that they’ve fixed up most of the “flying” related bugs. The sounds still seem like a bit of a quick fix, but a least my ears won’t be bleeding now, whilst we wait for further updates : P
Like yourself, I’ve been enjoying the DHC6 so far nevertheless! : )
Great video, I'm still not totally convinced by the sounds and wish it hadn't been a day 1 purchase for me, but hopefully they'll get the sounds to an acceptable state for most people quickly
sounds are still garbage
@@Within1980 it’ll be updated like it has been relax and give it time. 🤦
Thanks I.T Mann,
Yes, unfortunately I don’t usually have time to cover product updates, but on this occasion I did; I’ve been enjoying the Twotter and I figured since it was still so close to release, this video would make a reasonable addition to my overall coverage of the aircraft.
Haha! I put that down to background noise at home XD
That miiiight be FSRealistic’s cabin ambiance function to be fair (I was using it during the flight), but if other people have been experiencing it as well, perhaps it is actually an unwanted artefact.
Thanks for the review of the update. Much appreciated
You’re most welcome Chris! Thanks very much once again : )
PS, didn’t spot the switches, I shall have to investigate haha
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Phew! For a moment, you made me doubt if I was hallucinating. On the side windows of the cockpit, there is blocks of plexiglass with 2 pins inside (which look like 2 switches). It's rather badly made (way much too transparent), but it's not Aerosoft's fault, I've seen other unrealistic acrylic blocks on other planes in MFS (ex: small ventilation openings). Thanks for your reply! -An enthusiastic subscriber.
Great video! It seems like the Twin Otter is everyone's favorite.

A very nice flight, I enjoyed that.

thanks for the update and great video as always. Already upgraded and enjoying the patched plane.
Yep if you know planes, starting this one is like getting suckerpunched in the face every time 😂
@@microsoftflightsimulator2052 I don't think you're expecting too much mate.
@@microsoftflightsimulator2052 tbf… the icing in the sim is a bit hit and miss. Agree on the rest though.

My pleasure once again Darrell! I hope you’ve been getting on well with the DHC6 in the mean time. Luckily for me, the Twin Otter is a reasonably easy aircraft to land, that always helps ; )
Happy flying!
Love the Norway ATC chatter :)
Hehe, happy to hear it R3D!
It seems all of the Icelandic controllers were taking a day off on that day, so the Norwegians had to fill in for them ; )

The Marketplace Twin Otter updated yesterday; trying it out today
Certainly if the sound issues don’t bother you, I suspect you’ll enjoy it : )
Cheers and all the best!
Watching you use the most to touch the engine controls makes me glad that I finally got my hands on the Honeycomb Bravo. Way better immersion.
Haha, well I do have a HOTAS setup, but I just find it easier to operate some controls that way from time to time. I completely agree though; it’s much more immersive to use hardware over the mouse where possible.
Cheers! : )
Excellent review. 👍
Got the plane and second that. The sounds need some work even after the update.
Take care.
Thank you sir! : )
Yep, very much agree. “A step in the right direction”, but there’s definitely still work to be done. I’m hoping the Update 1 sounds were just a “quick fix” for the time being. . . Still, some other decent fixes with the update; fingers crossed that Aerosoft continue to work on the aircraft.
All the best!
Thanks for the update video ITBS!
Always a pleasure! Thanks for watching : )
so Cool i Love this Realyiti ! sooo big Potenzial
Thanks Avionik, glad you enjoyed it! The aircraft does indeed have potential, let’s hope Aerosoft continues to work on it.

Thanks for the follow up! I saw the A1R Ryan ST-A on the ramp at the end, any chance you will be reviewing it?
My pleasure DF!
Haha, I have been meaning to do something with the Ryan ST-A for a long long time now. I'm not planning a review, as I think that point has passed, but I do have an idea for the aircraft. I'm afraid I have no idea if / when I might get around to it though.
Cheers and all the best! : )
Just picked this up as a casual flyer and yeah the sounds need a lot of work, transitions are one thing but it's also incredibly loud, i thought the Hawk T1 was pretty loud but this is insane.
Have you ever heard a twin otter IRL ? It’s accurate. Throw on headphone simulation if it’s too loud for you
@cikame there are plenty of in-cabin Twotter videos on youtube. it is incredibly loud in real life. for instance, ua-cam.com/video/nRyHHf6pP0A/v-deo.html
Hi Cikame,
Did you purchase the Twin Otter through the in-sim Marketplace? I believe the Marketplace version has yet to be patched up. The original sounds were indeed overly loud, as compared with other addons, but I have found that this update has pretty much taken care of that (and the volume levels are now much more balanced with other sim aircraft / addons).
All the best!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations I thought that might be the case, yes i did get it from within the game so that explains it.
Glad you enjoyed the flight and thought my flying was alright to boot ; )
Rudder sensitivity is indeed (still) an issue in the sim. I use a -50 curve on my rudder axis, to try and mitigate this to some degree; it’s not a perfect solution, but it certainly helps - might be worth giving a try : )
Thanks again and all the best!
Eugh the massive roar from the engine when you cut power for landing...
Yep, the sounds definitely still need some work Andrew. I think the update is an “improvement”, but I’m hoping this was just a quick fix from Aerosoft - the sounds still aren’t where they need to be.
All the best!
Nice vid as always 👍
Thank you sir! Glad you enjoyed it once again : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations as always
you should probably add some boiler-plate to the "about" text explaining that the background radio chatter is an overdub of prerecorded real-world ATC, since inevitably at least a few users will ask what addon you're using. :)
Haha, I think you’re right Bernard! I was thinking the same myself, but then I wondered how many people might actually read it. Still, can’t hurt and would save me a bit of typing! XD

I'm making my notes so I can do it all correctly thanks to you. Try the isles of Scilly flight it's great fun.
Haha, that's great to hear Reece! Happy to hear you're still enjoying the sim : )
I have been meaning to do exactly that flight actually, but I never seem to have any time for personal simming at the moment. I'll get around to it one day haha. . .

@@IntotheBlueSimulations ha ha all good. It's great that aviation is getting busy again.
Where is the GPWS inhibit switch? Did you cover that in your video?
Good question TL. I didn’t cover it in the video and I’m afraid I’m not actually sure myself. I’ve done some reading around, to try and figure it out, but haven’t been able to find any specifics as to its location.
Apologies on that. All the best!
Thinking of getting this to expand my GA hangar, but trying to avoid junk (Paying for little more than a 3d model). The likes of the 310R, Cessna 414, and the JF arrows have spoiled me. Has this been updated any further in the last 10 months?
Hi GunnDawg,
The Twin Otter was actually updated very recently, primarily with a new soundpack. It just so happens that I revisited the aircraft over Christmas, so you might find that video somewhat useful:
ua-cam.com/video/Tu9f72cWkcU/v-deo.html
The Twin Otter certainly isn't junk, but neither is it done to the same standard as the other addons that you mention (most of what I mentioned in my original review is still valid). I believe the Twotter is still on sale (ending today) and for that sort of money, I think the aircraft offers up an enjoyable (though somewhat simplified) experience.
I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
Hello: The airport scenery looks like Orbx Iceland Demo. How did you get that into FS2020?
Hi Thomas,
The mesh I was using is the freeware Orbx Iceland mesh, available for the sim (via Orbx Central). The departure airport is freeware, available from Flightsim.to and the arrival airport is a payware scenery from Skytitude.
I hope that helps clarify things a little. All the best! : )
Where did you get the ATC Chatter sounds or is that part of something else?
Hi Ronny,
The ATC recordings are from LiveATC.net, I then edited them into the video.
With how loud they are by default you wouldn’t hear him if they were that loud.
Not to mention the permanent hearing damage on my end! : P
good job, well done.👍
Thank you very much sir! Glad you enjoyed it : )
Cheers!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Patch released on Aerosoft, waiting for one in FS2020.
Are you able to adjust the fuel mixture on yours? On mine all I can do is on and off.

The ATC is real-world recordings (from LiveATC.net), which I’ve then edited into the video. There is actually an ATC chatter app available for MSFS though, if that’s the sort of thing you’re after : )
I hope that helps. Happy flying and all the best!
I didn't think these things were started in feather.
Hi TY,
With regards to the Twin Otter specifically, I have no idea how it’s done in the real world but, I carried out the startup as per the provided checklist. I believe some turboprops are started in feather as (unlike with a piston engine) for a free-turbine TP, you aren’t putting any additional stress on the engine.
I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best! : )
I loved this flight ❤️
Thanks G&T! Glad you enjoyed it. It seems almost anywhere in Iceland makes for a beautiful trip : )
Cheers!
Are the sounds still bad?
“Yes” would be the short answer I’m afraid BD haha. Nothing has been updated (in terms of the sounds) since this video was recorded. Aerosoft are apparently having trouble finding a Twin Otter for recording purposes, so it may be that the sounds aren’t improved any further (time will tell).
Cheers and all the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thanks! Will have to wait.
No feather modelled!! Goodness.
Yeah, it's a bit of a shame to see such a thing isn't it Andy. . .
All the best : )
Weird.
That whine that you hear after using flaps is the hydraulic pump, located just below the cockpit, topping up the pressure.
Thanks Stwutter,
Unfortunately I don’t generally have the time to cover product updates, but I did on this occasion and as I’ve been enjoying the Twin Otter + the update was so close to release, I thought it would make for a reasonable addition to my coverage of the aircraft.
Hi Vograx,
Hmm that is odd.
Please, what is the ATC program you're running in the background?
Hi Whammo,
I’m using real-world ATC recordings from LiveATC.net and then editing them into the video. I believe there is an MSFS ATC chatter app available though, if that’s the sort of thing you’re after. . .
All the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thank you!
You’re most welcome! : )
How are you moving about the cockpit? Are you in VR?
Hi ZimZimmer,
I’m actually using a head-tracking device called “TrackIR”. It’s great for this sort of thing, a little pricey though. There are some other cheaper / freeware alternatives available, should you wish to give head-tracking a try for yourself.
Cheers : )
Are the updates done automatically when you buy from msfs store ?
No, they aren’t unfortunately Dave. If purchased through the MSFS store, when the update becomes available, you will need to go into “Profile” and then “Content Manager”, you will then be given a list of modules with available updates.
I hope that helps a bit. All the best! : )
Hi, many thanks for yet another extremely thorough and informative review. Quick question on this and the other Twin Otter reviews, I really enjoy the authentic sounding ATC chatter in the background. Is that an add-on, if so can you please provide details?

I dont know if this is a bug within MS 2020 but none of my twin otter aircraft will move off the runway it's like there are stuck fast and the engines wind down. I've restarted refueled but the fuel levers will shoot back and stay in the off position. No other aircraft behaves this way. Even when I load a flight at altitude the engines cut out. I havent seen anything over at the Aeosoft forums or the MS2020 ones. It's doing my head in as I can't use any of these aircraft. Would be grateful for any help.
Hi Merlin,
Worth asking first, are you running the most up to date version of the Twin Otter? I just flew the Twotter again recently and no issues (excuse the Christmas theme haha):
ua-cam.com/video/Tu9f72cWkcU/v-deo.html
If I had to guess, that sounds like a hardware setup issue to me.
You’re most welcome on the reply! I’m glad you got things figured out. Happy flying : )

Hi Sneeky,
Not really sure on that one myself, it’s been a while since I’ve flown the CJ4, so I can’t really remember what it sounds like. @@IntotheBlueSimulations yes, that sounds right, been some time ago they annonced that.
Yeah, it was a while back. Looking forward to that one. Being MILVIZ, it should be pretty great! : )
This review is a little bit too nice I would say. The sound mix is still horrendous and the patch just replaced old problems with new ones, for example the silent engines after startup, the sudden thrust sound when you go idle before landing etc.
Agreed

Man, I'm so on the fence on buying this plane... It ticks about every box of things I want from a multipurpose aircraft (specialy the ambhibian version) for my imaginary Indiana Jones like bush exploration trips. lol
But I keep hearing very worrying stuff about the simulation depth and flight model being "gamey".
Hi NEB,
Alas I don't think the Twin Otter is going to see much further development.
It sounds like it would tick all of your boxes (especially if you're going for an Indiana Jones vibe) and it's very affordable to boot:
ua-cam.com/video/s_96A9dy--M/v-deo.html
I hope that helps a little. All the best!
I did one a couple of years ago; it’s quite an undertaking, but a very rewarding experience overall - it would have been much quicker in the F-14 though : P
Cheers and all the best!
But once you touched down prepare yourself to build a shack below the plane, craft a spear and make yourself a Wilson because unless you have a whole maintanance crew and equipment somewhere that plane will stay grounded for life!😂
How do u navigate around the cockpit so smoothly?
VR or Track IR?
Hi Jan,
I am indeed using TrackIR : )
All the best!
Have they installed Glass into the cockpit yet ?
Windshield, instrument glass ?
Wonder if it's the ONLY aircraft in MSFS that doesn't have any 🥴🤣
Hi True Blade.
Constantly pushing the boundaries in MSFS! . . just in the wrong direction XD
All the best!
Does the update apply automaticely?
Hi Destry,
It doesn’t no.
Do u know by any chance what the problem might be?

i must say i am highly dubious of Aerosoft's claim that engine feathering "won't work on Xbox" and thus can't be implemented. exactly why wouldn't it work on the Xbox?
Why is that they cant model feathering in the sim...Simulators over 5 years old can......
Hi Andy,
Sorry to hear you aren’t happy with the addon, understandable though - I’m glad you’ll be able to get a refund at least.
Sounds still need to be fixed. Its bad.
Oh I totally agree that the sounds still need work Arthur. I would say that they are “improved”, but I’m hoping this was just a “quick fix” from Aerosoft, as the transitions (at the very least) are definitely still sub-par.
All the best!
