  • The Hello image campaign was the most-used and the best-known local station image campaign ever created.
Hello began its run with a love song to the community sung by Frank Gari and quickly transformed into a ballad version sung by Florence Warner.
The Hello image campaign took on a new sound when it was tweaked to "Say Hello." Still popular, this version was used in multiple places all across the country.
In an interview, Frank Gari said that there were 110 versions of the song.
Here's "Hello Illinois" as sung for WEEK-TV 25 in Peoria from the early 1980s. Featured among the personalities enjoying a beautiful autumn day in Peoria are longtime anchorman, Tom McIntyre, his partners Christine Zak and John Wingate, with (then) sportscaster Mike Dimmick, and the late weatherman Bill Houlihan.

In Bluefield, WV WVVA channel 6 used the music package and the sign off does have the instrumental version with the background vocals singing say hello and then it ended with WVVA Television says, Say Hello!!

Jackson,Mississippi's ABC affiliate WAPT 16 had a Hello jingle too and it ran from 1984 through 1986. The instrumental version would play during WAPT's sign off and when the voiceover speaker finished it would end with... " Hello Jackson/hello Mississippi...Channel 16 loves you.'

Vocals by Florence Warner, the same singer who sang the jig for Starburst Fruit Chews, "a burst of refreshing fruit flavor for you" back in the early '80's.

And don’t forget Burger King, “America Loves Burgers and We’re America’s Burger King” back in 1976.

Wow! I do not remember WEEK using this at all. I grew up having both WEEK and KWQC for NBC and my family was big NBC viewers. Odd that I don’t remember this on Channel 25. Lots of memories of KWQC using the Hello Quad Cities - this doesn’t sound right since I remember Channel 6’s version. It was nice to see many familiar WEEK people like Houli, Christine Zak, etc. Great find!

Grew up on both sides of the river in the quad cities. My grandparents were loyal KWQC viewers so I grew up with the hello quad cities motif and it’s burned into my memory. It’s surreal hearing this, I didn’t realize what “hello news” even was but I’ve seen/heard several versions of this now and the comments got me up to speed.

I don't know why very little has turned up from WCIA on UA-cam from viewer videos.

I don't remember WEEK using this, but then it was when I was very young (in fact I wasn't even born when this video was made). I do remember that right around when WEEK stopped using it, the Quad Cities NBC affiliate, KWQC, started using it.
    Still a fine find.
