We never knew that a news helicopter was a fixture for WEEK Television in Peoria, Illinois until the start of October 1979. These items cost $60,000 in October 1979 U.S. Dollars at that time. Small World!!
Great newscasters from the era when Peoria wasn't just a revolving door for great talent. Many of them stayed in Peoria and raised their families. Houli was a fixture in the homes of Peorians until he unfortunately passed away after over 40 years on the same station. I remember that day!
WOW! I grew up in Peoria, and we watched 25 religiously as a kid. That was the news "dream team" of the 80s. Mac, Zak, Wingate, Houli, & Norm. Thank so much for sharing this. It was cool to be able to freeze frame one scene as McIntyre is walking down Main Street and validate my memory of the Downtown Hardee's next to the old Palace Theatre too. Totally awesome!
This is a fantastic video! I currently work at a TV station and I'm nostalgic for what seems to be the "good ole days" of local TV. Seemed like hard work, but lots of fun. Love the theme music. Tuesday Productions is one of my favorite news music companies. Great stuff here!
Fantastic!! Perhaps I should contact the Creative Services Manager again. The Captain Jinks & Salty Sam facebook page has access to former audience members, former WEEK employees, relatives of Salty Sam, etc.. Interviewing some of these people would enrich the special. Best wishes on the transfers. There are many of us fans still out here. However, we're not getting younger and now's the time to do a top of the line special.
You know, you might be right on that. I think the first package I used might have been from TM. Like I said, it's been a long time and many beers. Thanks for watching.
I would have turned 3 toward the end of this year, so I didn't really remember these promos, however, it seems like I remember seeing the emblem with 25 inside the State of Illinois. I could watch these all day. Would you happen to have the WTVP sign-on from around the early-1980's? I actually remember that well, but haven't seen it since it was changed.
Those were the people I worked with. It was a lot of fun and a very different time. Houli taught me how to fly, I went on trips with Zak and Mac's son bought my motorcycle. BTW, he got a great deal! Thanks for watching.
I remember Houli wasn't a fan of the liquid marker map. When it was hot in the studio it would always run. Did you know Vic Burnett? I was his neighbor for a few years before his passing.
This brought back so many memories! Thanks! Hey, do you have any of the promos from like the early to mid 70s? There was this guy with a very distinct voice, whose "WEEK TV, Peoria" still lingers in my memory. I'd love to hear it again.
I don't know the gentleman's name, but I am certain that whatever his name is, he did the promos at least up through the mid-70s. I remember hearing him during the wraparounds for Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.
I have never been to Peoria Ill but that was coool the '70s the fashions..some people may cringe but I thought they were cool...and the NBC 'Proud N' brings back memories..I saw bits and pieces of Anchorman on tv it was funny..in '79 NBC's slogan was Proud as a Peacock..the Our Pride is Showing didn't occur 'til '81..don't get mad at me I thought I'd clear up something..wow that was cool seeing the '70s!!!!
At 2:16 and 3:12 Bill Houlihan is shown seated in front of equipment at the National Weather Service office that used to be at the airport. Did he actually work for the NWS while also working for WEEK, or was he just planted there at the NWS office for these promo shots?
Video xIIOHspL2D4 also has the programming version of this promo from KCCI/Des Moines. The WEEK versions seem to pull it off better for some reason (and I *like* KCCI, but this one plays better in Peoria)
I'm a member of the facebook page "Captain Jinks & Salty Sam". Two years ago I tried to talk WEEK into redoing a special. They seemed interested but had no complete episodes and very little footage. Did you provide them with footage including any complete episodes? I have access to several people who would make great editions to a special.
IF you're *really* a geek on this stuff like I am, you'll find video 0CezXjS9t9k to be rather interesting. Its KCCI's version of this same campaign. I kind of like the WEEK version better, but seeing it done in Des Moines is quite a contrast.
For a small town station, I did not know WEEK NBC-25 had a news helicopter

@bn13814 Might be right. That was a long time ago and I killed a lot of brain cells since. Thanks for watching.
You are strongly encouraged to upload MORE WEEK videos from your time with 25.
Again, thanks for this. Great!
Don't know why YT recommended this video, but I liked it.

Any video of Kelly Morgan out there, Paul?
Thanks for watching and your comments. This is pretty much all I have.

Thanks for watching. I might have a bit more stuff to put up. Too bad about the TV being bad.

Great era for TV,
Dick Lashbrook was the voice of WEEK in the 80s. Might have been him.
i'm a current EEK employee and got a huge kick out of this. thanks for sharing!
You know that was around 18 years ago and many beers but I think so. Thanks for watching.
How much the Murray Baker Bridge has evolved in the recent years just got to love this city full a crime
Not sure what you mean. Haven’t been there in a while
It was, wasn't it?
It seemed like a mixture of graphics from early 70’s NBC, the spaceship news set from the mid-70’s, and the NBC logo going into the 80’s?
I remember that set although I was 8 years old in 1979.
Thanks so much. Trying to look through my DVDs to find more like this.
Yeah, they built a Walmart on the old CILCO plant property. People in Peoria get to look at the back of it from across the river... nice.
FCPX crushes - then tramples - iMovie.

The NBC Proud N logo is also featured in SNL's Five-Timers Club Justin Timberlake monologue.
Sounds more like TM Productions to me. Tuesday didn't utilize any 'singers' that I recall from their work.
I grew up where I picked up WEEK and WMAQ in Ottawa
Cool classic WEEK promos! Thank you for sharing!

There's a Walmart there now? There goes the neighborhood:) Thanks for watching.
Local news just isn't like this anymore.
WEEK had cameras made by then-owner of NBC, RCA?
Mostly. TK-76. Thanks for watching

Thanks. I might have some more. It was fun when I worked there.

Welllll we did when we needed one. I actually did some of the flying in planes when we needed to get someplace. Thanks for viewing.
Yes I remember them playing that for me. Thanks for watching.
This brought back so many memories! Thanks!

wdln2 I suppose you wouldn't happen to have any tapes of Captain Jinks - would you?
I don't know the gentleman's name, but I am certain that whatever his name is, he did the promos at least up through the mid-70s. I remember hearing him during the wraparounds for Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.
