In High School I recorded all these cuts on cassette tapes from KPNX in Phoenix and used them for my own home made VHS news shows. Forty some years later they sound better than ever! Thanks for sharing.
@@bmasters1981 Though WSMV never used the Hello News close...they oddly decided to use "Let the Children Play" by the Miracles, instrumental version. They also went through a period where they used the the Stand Up / Turn to imager song even though they never used the opens and closes from that package.
It was great then, and it’s great today. Who knew something as simple as a news theme would boost morale at the station and get viewers chiming in about how they love your music. This industry needs to look back and see what worked instead of constantly trying to reinvent the wheel.
5:50 Everyone in Atlanta once knew this cue at the end of the newscasts on 11Alive -- all it needs is the WHOOSH at the very end of the 11Alive logo to close out the show.
This package, I remember VERY distinctly from one of our local CBS stations, WWMT, here in Grand Rapids, MI. We had a Hello West Michigan jingle from Frank Gari also. Thanks for sharing!!
Charles Van Dyke V/O: WVTM Channel 13 Birmingham. From Alabama's Leading News Station, this is Channel 13 News Tonight with Pam Huff, Gene Lively, Larry Nobles, and Ken Lass.
WTAE in Pittsburgh had a holiday instrumental version of the Gari "Hello" that was jaunty and uptempo. They put video of the news team riding sleds and exchanging gifts behind it, and it ended with a decidely Christmassy bells-ringing ending. Ever seen that?
Also on these stations: KGAN 2 Cedar Rapids (CBS) KJRH 2 Tulsa (NBC) KARK 4 Little Rock (NBC) KOCO 5 Oklahoma City (ABC) WLUK 11 Green Bay (NBC, now FOX) WISN 12 Milwaukee (ABC, the original that started it all) WEAU 13 Eau Claire (NBC) WMTV 15 Madison (NBC)
KWQC used this for 22 years, outside of a four-week period in 2007 for U-Phonix which was a disaster and terrible move for KWQC. EDIT: This was originally composed for WISN Milwaukee and their "Hello Milwaukee" campaign that kicked it all off in 1978. EDIT x2: This was actually dropped in 2012 from KWQC.
Number 31 News close at the end of the newscast at 6:00 p.m. 11Alive used it as their credits rolled and the last 15 seconds they use their helicopter as a background showing the city of Atlanta's skyline and then swoop down. I think 11 alive has the best logo for a television station ambest outros then they moved on to the great news package
Hey Cyle, do you happen to have audio cuts from other Frank Gari news packages, such as So Good To Turn To, and can you post them when you can if available? Thanks!
Live from 7 Broadcast Plaza, Eyewitness News at 11, Western New York's number one newscast, with Irv Weinstein, Tom Jolls' AccuWeather forecast, and Rick Azar with sports. Now, Eyewitness News! Now, Irv Weinstein!

KPNX knew how to use it, too! Neat story!
Frank Gari is still my best choice for jingles.
Some of the Hello News jingles were also used for WXIA-TV in Atlanta.
And I heard them also on videos of WSMV in Nashville, usually for The Scenes at 6 and 10 (evening and late editions).
Not to Mention WVTM-TV in Birmingham, Alabama

This was the news package when I was an anchor/reporter at a little NBC affiliate in Bluefield, West Virginia in 1988!

Wouldn’t it be cool for these to come back?
Heck yeah!
Absolutely!!
A good arranger could easily modernize these themes and make them work with an updated sound. I'd be up for it.
I approve a came back of this theme and image promo. 😊
They ARE back.
WSMV Nashville
WYFF-4 in Greenville SC used this too. Wish they would bring this back for their 70th. The Hearst package music is getting old.
From the NewsCenter of Georgia, This is 11 Alive News Tonight. John Pruitt, Chuck Moore, Johnny Beckman's Weather, and Sports with Art Eckman.

I remember when WTHR in Indianapolis used these cuts
Holy nostalgia Batman!
They should bring those back
Absolutely agree. You always knew KWQC was on TV when you heard these jingles. It was their trademark sound.
👀😉
Guess what? That’s Exactly what’s happening at KWQC.
@@AdamJ617 I saw they uploaded Hello Quad Cities onto their UA-cam but WOW, they are actually go to put it into regular use again?
Hello News and News Series 2000 were as common then as Aerial (SAM) is today.
grew up with this music, reminds me of watching tv with my grandparents
me too
WEEK-TV Peoria in the 80s. Hello Illinois!
I remember there being a different sounding close off theme in 2005 - 2008.
Some of these music cues were also used by other TV stations, like KCTV, Ch. 5 in Kansas City, MO, as well.
Plus, WSMV Channel 4 in Nashville
This is so cool!!!
been looking for these!
WTVK in Knoxville, WJBF in Augusta and international TV outlets like CFAC in Calgary used this package.
CFAC became CICT in 1993 but that came after another callsign change a few years…

Probably Gari's most successful campaign. Switched several markets from last to first in their markets.
KVII in Amarillo was the last station to use this theme. Dropping it for the Sinclair group package in 2015.
came here as well from koolnews, so this is where it all began.
KKTV Colorado Springs in the 80s. Hello Colorado!
