Is it possible to replace the fan? I can see a distinct warp in the plastic fan on mine, but you say not to disturb the position of the bearing etc. in relation to the fan? And what if the bearing between the fan and sanding plate needs to be replaced? Any advice would be most welcome.

Hi Kerry, I've looked online and in the UK at least it appears you cannot get a fan. The B&D drawing shows it as part of the rotor assembly and even if it wasn't discontinued it would probably have been cost prohibitive. :(
I didn't take the assembly apart so could not comment on whether you could get a suitable bearing from some other source as I didn't look at it, although there are many suppliers with huge ranges of bearings. I'm afraid my memory is really limited to the video now.
The reason I mention not moving the relative positions was from previous experience. If you choose to disassemble it I would suggest marking the positions of all the rotating parts.
I recall I had previously taken it apart without understanding how the sander plate oscillation was done. When I reassembled it, having moved the rotor in relation to the bearing it was unusable, painful to hold with the vibration. I believe that even after 'resolving' that, the remaining vibration was what caused the wire to break resulting in the repair you see.... and I've had to do it again since then. Each time I have tweaked the position to try to get a more smooth operation.
I'm so sorry I can't offer the solution you were looking for. Best of luck.

Good day, how do I remove the backing pad at the bottom as there is no screws.

Hi, do you mean the foam pad, which I think is stuck on? Or do you mean the plastic plate it is connected to? The whole plate can be removed by taking the side off and lifting it out.
