How beautiful to see these two men together. I interviewed Johnnie Wilder, Jr. for a Los Angeles Times story in '88 & met him in person at the Greek Theatre soon after when he was performing with gospel artists. Sweet man. One of the best R&B voices ever. Gone too soon.
Wow! Thats amazing! He had such a beautiful smile and personality. You could just tell he had a lovely spirit. I’m sure it was an awesome experience. Thank you for sharing and thanks for watching❤
Two of the worlds best artists in the history of music 🎶🎶 identifying with each other and be each other's inspiration though they are in a wheelchair. May these two legends live on the in the hearts of their fans worldwide forever. Rest in eternal peace Teddy pendergrass and Johnny wilder of HEATWAVE. 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️✝️✝️✝️✝️🎶🎶🎶 !
I was in dayton ohio when I first joined Slave in 1983. Drac ..Marc Hicks guitarist from slave was my best friend in Slave....he drove me one day to a little park and told me he had a surprise for me...We got out of the car and Johnnie Wilder Jr. rolled up in a wheel chair I was very speechless he had this smile like I have never seen! I told him he was my favorite singer and he wished me luck with Slave as lead Singer! I hugged him and I WILL NEVER EVER FORGET THAT MOMENT. It made me a better singer and was just a complete bolt of energy and everlasting joy for me in a young career ! Thank you Drac and Johnny Wilder Jr......Some of the only GREAT stories in the music business. This show is an outstanding segment on HOPE!
@@thornbird6768 Yeah man....and to think that Drac from slave picked me up and drove me there! Drac knew how much I admired Johnnie. So it was very sweet of him to surprise me like that it was a very beautiful moment!
@@Dnykidd1 I am singing every single song on the new plateau album thanks to Danny Webster...there you can hear a very early influence from Johnnie on me then I was 19 at the time.
Songs like this deserve a grammy which is why these award shows really don't get it. I mean of course there are many artists who deserve it but award shows promote who they want. There are many other groups without them who deserve them.@@msdemelogg
True! It just seem like the ones that really deserve don’t get the airplay, promotion and what it really takes to get noticed. It’s all politics and selling your integrity.
I used to have such a crush on Johnnie Wilder. Mind you I was born in '77. But I have a sister who is 20 years older she loved heatwave. So you know Johnnie was light skin and my sister said back then there was a thing for Black/Puerto Rican mixed men. Thats what they thought he was back in nyc . Lol, And her friends were in love with his smile and personality. As you could see he still had that 100 Watt smile and just had this light around him. And teddy was also a Gorgeous man. But even he admired Johnnie for his strength and faith. Rest in paradise to Both of these talented singers.🙏🏼🙏🏼❤❤
When I was a kid, my girlfriend at the time would tell me how handsome he was. I told her, "He just got a nappy head and a beard." But now, I can see what she was talking about.

Unfortunately Teddy was never the same singer after that horrific car crash, all the power was taken away.

This is going to sound stupid but I never knew Teddy Pendergrass was paralyzed in a car accident
I never knew he was paralyzed so young I thought it happened in his older years
I didn't know Johnnie Wilder was paralyzed until I read Teddy's biography Truly Blessed.
Both Teddy and Johnnie were suspiciously paralized Industry sacrifices
I've read this somewhere else 😱 is it really true ? I read Johnnie was a hit because of Michael Jackson 😮
Curtis Mayfield too. Suspicious “accident” that left him in a wheelchair too.

I’ve heard that as well….the industry can be very cruel. They’ll use whomever for whatever for money.
I don't believe that stuff! Life has unfortunate events is there any proof to these rumors though? I haven't seen any.@@msdemelogg
