Our Review of the Weber Genesis II line of Gas Grills:
The Skinny:
Best Weber Genesis ll available; excellent value; Thick 9mm Stainless Steel Rod Cooking Grates; Stainless Steel Flavorizer Bars; motion activated handle light; outstanding service & warranty.
Things To Love:
The 2019 iGrill ready Weber Genesis II Special Edition gas grill is an upgraded version of the iconic Genesis II base model. As a proud Weber Alliance Dealer, we can offer you the Genesis II Special Edition, which is not available from most other Weber Grills dealers. Choosing this grill means premium features, including a motion activated handle with lights and thick 9mm stainless steel cooking grates. The Special Edition comes with a 10 year warranty, instead of 5 years like the Genesis II, which come with porcelain enameled cooking grates.
The tried and true Weber Cooking System is great at providing even heat distribution and minimizing flare ups. Within the durable cast aluminum housing, are the triangular-shaped stainless steel Flavorizer Bars with a flame view window. They shield the burners by catching drippings and turning them to smoke, adding flavor back into your food. Weber pioneered the Flavorizer Bar in 1984, and since then they've proven to do their job extremely well, which is why they're still preventing flare-ups on all Weber gas grills today!
The 2019 Genesis II Special Edition is powered by stainless steel burners that get more narrow towards the back of the grill. This shape reduces heat in the back, producing more consistent heat across the cooking surface. The burners are lit by a reliable push button infinity ignition and produce around 13,000 BTUs per burner on the 3 burner models, and are lit by a reliable electronic infinity ignition.
All Weber Genesis ll Gas Grills come pre wired for the iGrill 3. The iGrill 3 Smart Grilling Thermometer (sold separately) is the ultimate grilling tool that makes it easy to achieve grilling perfection. It mounts to your grill allowing you to monitor your food straight from your phone.
The Genesis II Special Edition SE-310 and SE-335 come in black, and the SE-330 gives you the choice of four hot colors, including black, crimson, copper, and smoke.
The 2019 Genesis II Special Edition grills are packed with features. The SE-330 and SE-335 come with a side burner with a 12,000 BTU burner, and a sear station with a 9,000 BTU burner. The sear station creates a high heat zone on the grill that's hotter than other areas of the grill, creating restaurant quality sear marks on your food. SE-310 and SE-330 come in an open cart design for easy access to your storage under the grill. Like the Genesis II, the Special Edition saves you valuable storage space with its propane tank storage area, located under the right side shelf. This area conveniently allows you to connect and mount your propane tank underneath the side shelf and features a handy gauge which allows you to monitor your fuel level. As an upgrade the SE-335 comes with an enclosed cabinet with two shelves giving you ample storage, perfect for storing dinnerware and utensils.
With over 50 years in business, Weber customer service is as good as it gets. They have a 10 year warranty on the grill body and stainless steel parts parts, like the cooking grids, burners, and flame tamers. They have reputable service and quickly handle any service or replacement part situations.
Things To Consider:
The Weber Genesis II Special Edition does not score well for high heat due to a low maximum BTU output, when compared to other grills in the same class.

Really good video. Clear and concise. You show all the features and also show it actually being used, which is something too many review videos fail to actually do.
Thanks for watching!
Bought this model an few months ago ! Absolute brilliant! Worth every penny
Awesome video and review. Thanks guys! Just got one of these bad daddys for Father's Day.
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoy breaking in your new grill :)

Nice tag line. 🙂👍
This is a perfect example of marketing at its best. They(because it's clearly a team effort) covered EVERY SINGLE aspect and detail anyone could POSSIBLY want to know about with this product, highlighting the mind blowing features(even for something simple/basic) that gives them the cutting edge, and constant visual audio demonstration.
Whoever they hired for the outcome of this video is clearly the best at what they do. I don't(didn't) even like gas grills and this has got me seriously considering.
I'd like to see something that has the best of all worlds; gas, charcoal, wood fed, rotisserie, side burners, and the whole works.
Thanks for the awesome compliment!
Same. I'm torn between a pellet grill and a gas grill.
I've watched this video 10 times now. Today we are ordering this killer grill. Great video.
You will love it!
I just ordered the S-435! How do you like your new grill? Any issues?
Great video. Was such a good video that Weber should be using this one. ;) I just ordered it from you guys and got an amazing deal for black Friday.
Thanks for watching. Enjoy that grill!
Hey Mark! What was the black friday deal? I'm looking to buy a grill this November so I may look out for something similar this year. Thanks!
@@brendansmith I paid 1100 I believe and came with the igrill. Still loving this barbeque
This grill is so beautiful!
Thanks for stopping by man!
I just bought mine. These grills are very well made with heavy duty parts!
Una de mis mejores compras génesis 345
my side burner can’t start the fire,I need to use the candles to start, what I do wrong?
Hi bbq it’s me pancake lady I’m so happy to see you I just wanna say your the best btw happy 2019
Thanks for stopping by pancake lady! I hope you have a great 2019 as well :)
Wow this is crazy thx
You guys do some thorough reviews. I am leaning towards the Napoleon Prestige Pro 500. Can you recommend any videos that do head-to-head comparisons between natural gas and propane models on the prestige Pro 500
Check out our Napoleon grill comparison chart: bit.ly/2uQ3rCY
Great review, I was torn between this and the S-435. Decided to stick with the SE-335, ordered today. With the cost difference I was able to add a cover, extra light and the Igrill 3. Looking forward to upgrading my old 2 burner spirit!
Glad you found the right grill for you :)
Me too. About to pull the trigger on this bad boy
Thanks for the nice video! It looks like the S-345 at Costco has all of these features plus lighted knobs, stainless steel top, iGrill system, and grill cover included for the same price (unless I'm missing something).
Doesn't have the light and the grill grates are thinner on Costco one.
That still is a great deal, in my opinion. But,I want a natural gas model.
@@singplumb I agree, propane sucks lol
Great video. I am thinking about purchasing one on the site soon.
Question: can this unit and or the se 435 model be installed outside for a custom built bbq setup? I’m new to that so was just wondering. Thanks a lot.
The only series by Weber that they suggest building in would be the Summit models. Here's a link: www.bbqguys.com/weber/summit-s-460-built-in-propane-gas-grill-with-rotisserie-and-sear-burner
I have gas hook up does Weber have genesis 11 with gas not propane
Hoping the IGrill 4 will have wireless probes
Nice review.
Thanks!
It’s about time Weber brought back the sear station. Don’t know why they got rid of it in the first place.
Glad they did as well!
well edited and informative video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi there! Awesome content ! Really enjoying your videos! I'm in the market for a new grill and cant make a decision between the Napoleon Prestige 500 (with sear station and rotisserie) and the Weber Genesis ii CSE-335. Can you help please help me!
We love the Prestige 500!
Do side tables on this model fold? Thank you
The shelves on the Genesis SE-335 do not fold down. The right-hand shelf contains a side burner, and the propane tank hangs from a bracket directly beneath it. Thanks for watching!
Is there a difference between the GS4 ignition on the Genesis vs the current ignition on the Summit? Also, is there a difference in the burner design between the two? Will a Summit update be out soon? Thanks, love the reviews.
The GS4 uses continuous spark. Where the summit uses flame thrower ignition.
Continuous Spark
A continuous spark ignitor generates sparks with an electrode attached to an ignition rod, the ignition rod is placed in the flow of gas near a burner sparks are emitted continuously while activated. This ignition method requires batteries or an electrical connection to operate.
Flame Thrower
The flame thrower ignition system uses a piezoelectric ignitor to light a small tube directed toward a burner, the tube provides a stream of fuel that ignites into a long flame. Piezo igniters require no external electrical source and they use the same fuel as the burners they light. Another benefit is that by creating a long flame and lighting from a distance, sensitive components can be stored away from high burner temperatures that might otherwise cause early failure.
As for the burners, there's a difference there too. The Genesis 2 now has the tapered burner design where the Summit has their older, cylindrical burners.
Unfortunately, we have no info on updating versions at this time.
@@BBQGuys Thanks, I love my 2000 model Summit, just showing it's age. I'll hang on to it a bit longer and see what Weber does for a refresh. However, I will be looking for your hands on review of the Smokefire. Can't wait to see that video.
What are your thoughts about this grill vs. the big green egg? Pros/cons?
Two completely different animals. Depends if you want a gas grill or a kamado!
Is the gap for the 9mm stainless grate rods the same or smaller than the 7mm stainless rods? (That is does the upgraded 9mm grates have a smaller food gap between rods)?
They are the same.
Nice work dude! What do you guys season on the vegies?❤🍻
Thanks! kosher salt, fresh cracked pepper & garlic powder usually :)
Hello community, is it possible to add a smoker box to this grill? I though there would be an opening/specially designed place for it but from what I saw in this video they place the smoker box on top of the grill next to the food. Is that the only way to do it? Thank you!
Hey Marco, Randy here. Indeed that is not the only way. I've seen people put the smoker box under the grids, resting on top of the flavor bars/tammers.
BBQGuys hey randy! Could you please recommend one I could purchase to place underneath the grills? I would appreciate it very much!
Does it matter if you put the smoker box below or above the grill grate?
For best results, put the smoker box under the grate. Your food will should get more contact smoke.
do you think the e-435 is much different from the SE?
Main thing to me is the nice thick stainless grates on the SE
E - Porcelain Enameled Grates & no cooking light
SE- Thick stainless cooking grates are a plus, comes with light
Thx. The warming rack do not have the feature to hold skewers??
You can certainly put skewers on the warming rack, but there is not a specific attachment for that.
@@BBQGuys on the 2019 model there is a specific place to hold the skewers horizontal, at least in Europe
@@theattorney6072 Interesting. I know sometimes Weber has different options in Europe, maybe that is the case here. Sounds like a neat feature!
I have an E310. I don’t care for the cast iron grates. Is it possible to purchase stainless steel grated for this?
Check them out here: bit.ly/2vL8EMI
How does this compare to the stainless steel version? What's the benefit?
This version is painted steel and the stainless steel version is overall more durable.
I have a Genesis 330 which has the side burner. You can't turn the flame down low enough to simmer. Even at the lowest setting, you are approaching, if not hitting, a boil. Are they all like this, or is something wrong with mine?
They are all mostly like this.
That sucks, so semi worthless.
Why is it better with stainless steel grids? Compared to cast iron I mean?
Stainless steel resists corrosion better. Cast Iron is certainly good for heat retention, just needs more maintenance and a very good seasoning to protect it.
@@BBQGuys in the video it says 9mm thick, but in the specs it says 7mm. Which one is it?
When comparing say the 410 to the 435. My question is the seat station is it that important? Trying to decide between the two
If you like to cook steak often, and you want to be able to get a nice sear on the outside before the inside is overcooked, I would say yes. If you don't really care about searing steak, roll with the normal burner setup. Weber is not a very high heat grill compared to others on the market, so if you want those solid grill marks rock with the sear station. You can also just have it there in case you need it, just keep that extra sear burner off when cooking conventional and you don't lose any grill space.
Check out the performance of the sear station here: ua-cam.com/video/Zdfr2lSq8EM/v-deo.html&lc=UgxGCZfZPpyq4AxpO4F4AaABAg
Can you tell me how big is the barbecue area? In centimeters
1700 sq centimeters.
I am between this Weber and the Napoleon Prestige 500. Which would you recommend?
We recommend the Napoleon
Weber, easier to find parts.
Is this grill made in America ?
Some components are made not in the USA, Weber does assemble in the USA though.
Looking to buy the Genesis ll E-325 to replace a 20+ year old Weber
wjb111 I was disappointed to find out the new Genesis models were 100% made in China now.. I’d keep the old one personally. Unless of course it’s done.
Joseph Windsor Jr well that definitely will make me rethink this. 🤔
Joseph Windsor Jr not true, just bought one. The cheaper models are made in China. This model is American made and you can easily tell the difference in the store.
HaydenHero he said he was looking at the genesis model... Those are made in Chy-naa.. Only the Summits are made in Illinois now with foreign materials.
HaydenHero I was looking into buying new grills last month, and in my research I found out that weber had begun outsourcing since there WS a big class action lawsuit against them a few years ago. 2015 I think I’m not sure. I can’t remember where to find the article.
Which would you recommend between the S and SE-335?
We recommend the SE-335 for all its added features.
@@BBQGuys Thanks for the response. I see there are three differences between these two models. The SE has a 9mm ss grate (as opposed to 7mm on the S), the SE has the light accessory on the handle (the S doesn't), but the SE has a porcelain coated lid (whereas the lid on the S is ss). Am I missing anything or is that it? I like the look of the SE better but thought the ss lid on the S would be more durable (compared to the porcelain coated one on the SE), but then again I hear ss lids can be a hassle to maintain. I've been overthinking this for a week now (analysis paralysis you could say), but it's a huge investment and I want to get it right. Any further advice would be appreciated.
I bought this grill. The 9mm grates are reason enough to buy it.
How to cook baby back ribs
I just bought this same grill last week, love it, but mine didn't come with the light on the open handle. ;(
Great to hear! Was it Special Edition? The other models don't come with it, but it is offered as an accessory. www.bbqguys.com/weber/7516-handle-grill-light-with-3-led-lights?Gas-grills-weber-genesis-ii
Yep its the special edition.
Did you purchase this from us? We would be happy to remedy the mistake if so.
I bought mine from home depot, had no light.
Hello BBQ guys, I have a quick question.... is the side burner big enough to boil a pot of water for steaming a few lobsters?....it's always nice to get the good ole surf and turf thing going....thanks
I think a medium sauce pot would be just fine. I would expect you will get the same amount of heat you are used to on your indoor gas range burner. It's not a "Powerburner" that you would use for a big ole pot of crawfish, but a few lobsters certainly would work.
Thank you very much
Could i buy one and deliver it internationally?
We do not currently ship internationally.
4 weeks to ship the Model 67006001?
Yes, we are waiting to receive stock on this unit. They don't drop ship so we have to wait for the stock to be received, we apologize for the delay.
Hmmm just found 5 in stock at Homedepot.
Is Genesis II Special Edition SE-335 model Made in USA?
Some components are made not in the USA, Weber does assemble in the USA though.
Thank you for the info!
Sure thing.
A shame a $1499.99 CDN grill doesn't have USA components just assembly.
Weber is the best
Can't go wrong with a Weber!
Do these grills use batteries at all?
Yes, a double AA battery powers the push button ignition spark.
How much please?

Hey I own a Genesis II Gas grill, works good until you have a problem. I will not purchase another Weber Grills! I currently own Weber Genesis Gas Grill. Spent almost a grand on it. Company isn't what it used to be. Have had issues with the ignition switch and have contacted Weber on multiple occasions. Grill is still under warranty. Spent over an hour on the phone, only to be told I would receive a call back and not hearing from them. Sent many emails over two months, receiving only automated messages saying they will review the issue and get back with me only to hear nothing from them. Guess they are waiting for the warranty to expire. If you purchase a Weber Genesis, good luck getting them to help you with any issues that occur.
Wow, I am sorry you’re having that issue. I just purchased a weber performer and had a dented lid on the kettle and they sent another with no questions asked. I would maybe keep trying and hope you get it resolved 🙁
Why does every grill have the side burner. Does anyone ever use that?
There are a good bit of freestanding grills that don't bother with the side burner if you prefer that. It can be handy for sauces and whatnot to avoid running into the kitchen. Grill up some veggies and make a grilled pasta sauce, you know something like that.
I fry my blackened fish on the burner and don't have the fishy smell i kitchen. Also it splatters a bit and I don't have the clean up I would have in kitchen.
I use it for fish so I don’t have to smell the house up with that cooked fish scent. I love it :)
Which is better cast iron body or the new cast aluminum?
My opinion is that the aluminum is the way to go, cast iron does not sit well in the elements and will rust bad and quickly. Aluminum does not rust and will last much, much longer.
Sorry where is the back burner?
I think you are thinking about the Weber Summit line. Genesis does not have the rear burner for rotiss, here are the Weber Summits -

125! For medium rare?
125 is where I pull the meat from the grill, and let it rest. For me, this gives great results to what I call medium rare.
Ok thank you
Unfortunately the new Weber grills are not made very well.
We're sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. We sell a LOT of Weber grills, and we've found their reliability to be excellent! The return rate on Weber grills is low. They offer many models at different price points so that everybody can afford their grills, and their customer service is among the best in the industry.
My igniter has burnt out 3 times In 2 years already on my gs4. Poorly made. I don't even BBQ often
Sorry to hear you are experiencing problems. Please contact our customer service team at: 1-855-982-0562
After seeing there PK Suban marketing I AM buying a Broil King Grill .
We have had a terrible time getting in touch with Weber. I have called and left messages along with phone number a day and a half ago! No contact yet. We certainly will not recommend Weber to anyone!!! Supposed to be the best; we’ll we have a problem every year. Will we be able to barbecue this summer???
L
Has anyone had a plateful of grill marks that wasn’t delicious.yumyum!😳!
Demolition ranch
you had me until you said aluminum
Compared to the old Weber's these are junk now.
True story, flimsy Chinese junk. Assembled in USA.
$120 Weber kettle still blows this thing out of the water....
We love our Weber Kettles, too! Sometimes it's not practical to have a charcoal grill, and we've found the Genesis to be a great value.
Agreed. Everything has a purpose. For years all my wife and I had was an old school Weber charcoal kettle. I loved it and I still do but it’s just not practical all the time. When we got our genesis in 2014 we quickly became exclusive to it. I actually don’t have my kettle due to an interaction with it and a piece of heavy equipment on a job site lol but I do plan on getting another one because I do like it for some things. But like said above the gas grill is just too handy.
You never go over the knobs, installation, etc. Video is useless
Check out more here: www.bbqguys.com/expert-reviews/gas-grills/weber-genesis-ll-special-edition-2019
What do you mean? there are 4 knobs for 4 burners and a 5th knob for the side burner. If you are looking for assembly, go find an assembly video. This is an overview.
