At this point James still had a little of his 80s and 90s voice. His voice back then was incredible and strong. However to this day he still does have a little of that voice left
Superalex9 Patterson For me his 2008 voice sounds alot like his voice from 1999. James' voice now in 2016 sounds good too, at some moments it sounds like his '90s voice. James' voice on metallica's new song Moth into flame sounds good too and it sounds awesome live (maybe even better)
RickGrimes41 I agree man. The entire new album in my opinion is great. When he sings this song, he knows at the end he can't let his fans down. He lets his old voice come alive in this song and it sounds absolutely awesome. It's almost as if at the end of the song he switches versions of him self and becomes the 90s James. His voice is incredibly strong at the end of this awesome song.
The lyrics are amazing and so does the riffs.

That was 23 years ago. The first year I blasted lots o rock but sad but true was my favorite. I broke my steering wheel and 2 fingers pounding out that moving bassline while driving. GOODTIMES! GOODTIMES!!!

You are right. When Sad but true was released on the Black Album it tuned to D#, so a half note down than the standard E tuning. They tuned down every of their song in 1995 because of James's voice, but I thought they didn't change anything on Sad, but when I heard this version I realised that it is in D, so a whole note (2 steps) down.

This was one of their best live concerts. James's voice sounds very loud here, and Lars/Kirk didn't make a big mistakes yet.
It's very sad to realize our bigs and favourites bands are going to their retirement soon. Enjoy when a possible.

I dont think that Metallica got worse from 1991 on, they just changed their style a little bit. From Thrash to Heavy to Heavy/Hard Rock...
he did that in the 80's and this is the master of puppets anniversary and he also is using a randy rhodes, he only used those in the 80's too
