My wife wanted a 2008 Suzuki Sx4 AWD, and she loves it. I offered to upgrade to a Lexus or Genesis but she refused. Then after a heavy snow storm, I quickly understood why. My only complaint, gas tank is really small but using it for a road trip was not unpleasant. But I never had a major issue, just oil changes.

If Suzuki sold the Jimny here in the us, I think it would do great! It’s a mini-off roader that is actually more capable than taking a ford escape and calling it a ‘Bronco’ 😂
The Samurai and sidekick were the small off roaders before the Jimny but very underpowered here in the us as we don’t really like diesels and that’s how these are sold overseas. Plus, the manual thing LOL

I had a 95 Suzuki samurai first-year fuel injection I put 33 in tires on if I was a union plumber and got a lot of crap for it no pun intended it rode hard half a cup of coffee in the morning! But it was great I even had air conditioning factory 11000 in 95. I also had to Geo Metro on 92 had a Suzuki 3 cylinder also with the stick about 40 mi to the gallon! I was an apprentice plumber. Later in my career I had a 2004 forenza that was an automatic and it was fine and cheap. In 2004 I bought my wife a Grand vitara XL7 with the v-6 leather interior and a moonroof also excellent thanks for the memories Scotty 🤠

I put 350K on my ‘93 Sidekick 4x4. The trans (manual, of course) burned up after a little rubber plug came out while I was trying to keep up with big-rigs running 80mph from Las Vegas to Barstow….kept popping out of gear. Replaced that and never had any issues once I figured out how to clean out the EGR ports in the intake. It hat a CalMini lift kit and a fairly good look. Sold it when we had a kid.

I live in the U.S. Virgin Islands and we still have plenty of Suzukis. The first and best car I had was a 1986 3-cylinder, 4-speed manual Suzuki Forsa. My mother bought it brand new for $5,000. (A hurricane in 1995 smashed it, but it still started on the first swing.) They are perfect for our islands. The speed limit is 35mph and the fastest I drive is 45mph - maybe 50mph. Unfortunately, we're part of the United States so new Suzukis are not sold here anymore. I'm seriously considering buying a new manual transmission Suzuki Swift from one of the British Islands. I still drive a 1998 Chevy Tracker which is really a re-badged Suzuki Sidekick. It has 158,000 stop and go, uphill and downhill miles. It was my backup car, but my 2014 Chevy Cruze's engine died so it's now my main car. The Cruze only had about 62,000 miles. I would buy another Suzuki in a heartbeat.

I have a 2019 suzuki swift I bought for USD equivalent of $11,000 new. It gets about 55 miles per gallon. It isn't very fast but it is cheap to drive. Comes with a timing chain, not a belt. Americans lost the plot when they refuse to learn to drive a manual.

    • @MikeStavola

The problem isn't the stick. The problem's the fact that the average American car is triple the size of your little Swift, and isn't even visible when in front of many common trucks on the road.
My 6 speed SX4 is absolutely miniscule, and I have this guy on my commute in a giant, lifted truck who literally can't see my car when I'm next to his passenger door. It's stupid scary.

Suzuki swift 4 cylinders are popular here in Australia, I see them with high mileage and still running well with over 300,000 kilometers on them. yes the auto's in 4 cylinders are sluggish but not too bad with the standard transmission. they seem to be more reliable than a Ford focus.

I have a 2009 Yaris sedan. Same car as yours just 2 years older. Been a Midwest car it’s entire life. I’ve done basic maintence up until last year. Had to replace alternator, engine mount, valve cover gasket, front pads and rotors, rear drums and shoes. That was the needed maintence the last year. I went ahead and did the pcv valve just because why not it was 14 bucks from the dealer. I work at a dealership, I get good discounts on parts. My muffler is currently rotting away, but the frame is solid no rust on the frame. The hooks holding up the muffler were cheaply made/coated so of course they rusted out. Doesn’t burn any oil I change it and the filter every 3k miles. Do the trans fluid too every 35k. Car is amazing and great on gas. Blows cold air too

Don't be afraid of buying any older Suzuki in America because of lack of parts, as you can easily find them on other Suzuki models and rebadged models sold in America still under alot of different manufacturers badges like Geo, Chev etc. Plus Suzuki vehicles are global cars so parts are cheap and plentiful around the world and can get them shipped quickly these days from overseas.

I own three of the crossover versions of this car, and Scottiy's correct! I do suggest if you purchase one you get the 2010-12 though. They have the j20b engine rather than the j20a engines which are found in the 2007-09 vehicles. The earlier engines can have oil pump failures that are very pricey to fix. If it's not addressed immediately after failure, it will destroy the engine.

Also, the crossover version of this car is 2wd, awd, 4wd. Yes, you read that correctly! It's the only vehicle that has this feature in the US, I think.

The video kind of misses the point that the manual version is FWD/AWD/4WD via a selector. And yes, each of those really works (the 4WD mode up to 35mph). With studs here in Maine, the machine is nearly unstoppable in foul weather. They sold well in Canada and in Maine.

Had a 2008 SX 4 sedan. Automatic. Synthetic oil. Ran great. Kept it until about 100,000 miles. All at once needed a compressor, front end, work, and tuneup. Decided to get rid of it, especially when they pulled out of the United States, but regret it now. Should’ve kept it, and fixed. Was a great little car, and yes, it was under powered, but I don’t need something that burns up the roads. Great little cars

Don’t knock these “other” Japanese manufacturers. My dad has a Chevy LUV 4x4 made by Isuzu, it was abused to no end a business truck, often towing twice as much weight as it was rated for. Truck still runs fine today. 1985 S10 with the 1.9 Isuzu engine and a 4 speed manual Isuzu transmission, runs like a top with almost 200K or maybe 300K. Suzuki and Daihatsu made good vehicles too.

The sad part about these cars is the fact that they're almost impossible to find with a standard transmission built into it. Heck, the ones with the Jatco CVT are hard to find as well. But I guarantee no one would not want a Suzuki that has a crappy CVT that are commonly used in many FWD Nissan products.😆

The GM Daewoo partnership in the 2000s was what ruined Suzuki in the United States. These came out after that ended but unfortunetly it never got a chance to redeem itself and ceased sales in 2012. The Suzuki Equators were rebadged Nissan Frontiers and Im sure that would of been the Suzuki version of the Mazda B Series (Ford Ranger).
