  • Award-winning actress Anne Heche was "declared brain dead" but remained on life support for organ donation, a family spokesperson said Friday.
On Thursday night, her family released a statement that the actress was “not expected to survive” and it had "long been her choice to donate her organs."
Dr. Drew joined the DBL panel to discuss Heche's crash, the nature of her injuries and addressed rumors that the crash was her attempt to take her own life, saying: "If you're doing fentanyl and cocaine together, you are definitely not trying to commit suicide."

I’m troubled about this. My daughter and son in law were hit head on 7 years ago by a couple who decided to drive while high. She was medically induced for 7 days. My daughter and her husband had their lives change drastically and horribly. And, I had to stand by her side and watch her flatline twice. No one deserves that. They did nothing wrong but be on the same road as 2 thoughtless bastards. I don’t hate the driver, but I damn well blame him. I hate the wife, as she tried to get herself out of legal trouble by blaming it on my 2. Only problem was everyone saw them swerve suddenly in front of my family. They were completely left of center. Mental health issues? Screw that. I have had ptsd for over 30 years, but I’ve never used that as a reason to excuse killing someone. Now, everyone in my family has ptsd because of this. And, that includes their 2 children, who were 4 years old and a six month old. Try explaining to a 4 year old why their mommy might never come home. And, when they finally made it out of the hospital 3 months later, trying to find that new normal life was a nightmare. I’m truly sorry for her family. This has to be a nightmare. She didn’t deserve to die this way. But, imagine that lady in her house? Her life just got destroyed, and all everyone cares about is the actress. Her home was destroyed by negligence by someone else. Not to mention the horror of being there when someone crashes into your home, and everything explodes in flames. This is tragic on every level

When my mental health was at its peak I took myself off the road and completely stopped driving. My paranoia made me believe people in the cars behind me were following me and I would speed and speed to get away. At any time I could have hit a child crossing the road or ploughed into a wall in my bid to escape. Thank God I had the insight to remove myself even though I didn't even know I was mentally unwell at the time.

A lot of you have been saying how you feel sorry for the kids and I'm sure right now is tough for them. But I want you to reflect on something how much do rich people really spend time with their children? They have nannies and old pears etc etc. No factor in you have a rich parent who also has a drug addiction. Which spends them zoning out a lot. And then there's more Nanny Grandma whoever so to feel 100% sorry for the kids now is absolutely genuine but in some respects since there's only a 4 to 5% success rate of 100% drug recovery on a drug of that magnitude, I know this is tough for anybody to hear but if you check your heart and know how we are influencing our children with our Behavior without us even knowing it. So to start feeling sorry for the children right now is real but maybe now is is a Time to Say now those kids have a better chance. I'm going to catch hell from everybody for saying this I'm sure but it's my genuine deep feeling God bless and God give hope to the remaining family.

She didn't passed out. Anne hit garage and the security man in an authoritarian voice was telling her "get out of car." She apologized, but he was going to call the police. Anne Heche thinking was "I'm going to jail, drinking, cocaine, hit property." Anne decided to run that's why she was speeding. Nobody drives straight into property unless yes passed out or intentionally. Anne Heche had just talked to security man, was in adrenaline of running and she passed out? When you make a mistake like hitting property and on DUI its possible to run, because you think who you are and what your life it's going to be if police arrests you. I believe she decided to end it. We don't know if she did Fentanyl. When you drink on cocaine actually it sobers you up, not make you go to sleep. Anne Heche paid with her life. As for the renter, she will be compasseted 2x whatever she owed, house too, plus Anne Heche was a millionaire, not to mention the go fund me done. Stop judging her, the woman paid with her life and her children will suffer. She had a horrible past, plus brother committed suicide. Anne Heche was only 53. My condolences for her family.

Yes, she made a terrible decision that day and nobody will know what drove her to that decision, but to be nasty and mean with comments and speculation is a terrible thing to do. Let’s have respect for a fellow human being that unfortunately made a bad decision that ended up ending her life. Thank goodness nobody else was hurt, but let’s remember, she wasn’t a mean person that would purposefully try to hurt anyone. May she be at peace and prayers going out to her family.

Now, after hearing she’s not surviving, I am ashamed for my premature judgments. I realize it’s just a TERRIBLE, unfortunate situation all around. The demons in her have been brewing for years, maybe decades…and she lost to it. Now, no one wins, no arguments are better than the other. Just like I feel about Will Smith, Anne had a lot more complexity in her life than I have. So who am I to judge? Just sad for everyone, hope we can all learn from this tragic event.

Her organs may not be viable for several reasons: cocaine and other drug use present in organs; poor perfusion of organs with blood, due to lung damage from heat and decreased oxygenation, making organs not able to function properly; and physical trauma to organs during crash. He really missed the the part of the story of Anne Heche crashing into a garage before the crash into the apartment. She backed off and sped away- unconscious people are not able to do that. I've never heard of him, but I have to agree with you. He made out that Anne Heche took the fentanyl herself. This is not known. The fentanyl could have been given on admission at the hospital, after the accident. Additional tests were being run to determine when the fentanyl got in her system.
He also assumed that the anoxic brain injury was due to drugs. This had been reported elsewhere as a result of the smoke inhalation reducing oxygen to her brain.
He comes across as someone who is more interested in sensationalism rather than truth.

I'm a recovering alcoholic and two-time convicted drunk driver (now sober 9 years). It's very sad that Anne's demons were hard to keep at bay, and my sympathies go to all who loved her. The problem with drugs/alcohol is that the frontal lobe, our "brakes" to bad ideas, get numbed with substances. The decision to get into the car and drive like hell seems just fine in the moment. Of course it isn't, and tragedy happens. I'm still surprised I'm alive AND especially that I didn't injure someone else (or worse). This is just an incredibly sad story.

Josi, Well put, thank you for your perspective. Both addiction and mental health are so misunderstood & stigmatized bc of it. People aren't evil, they're human & make mistakes, sometimes bad choices. The end result (like addiction & thus involuntary neurological changes) may seem like a choice that people want to blame, although it's actually more complicated. Many are missing that fact in their anger & judgement. Congrats on your choice & commitment to get sober. You paid your dues & will hopefully educate & inspire others. 🙏👊🤍

Anne survived child abuse. That should tell you everything. Not everyone escapes that in tact. You can’t.
One of my best friends committed suicide July 1. Sexually abused as a child in the foster care system. Battled addiction all her life. Got sober for years, but relapsed after hubby died year before the pandemic. Then pandemic hit. That was the last straw.

We've been repeatedly fed a story involving drinking/drugs/mental illness/organ donation/brain death/horrific burns and what a horrible selfish person Anne Heche was. Does anybody here know her? I don't. Have you seen the verified video of her being taken to the ambulance on a gurney, covered with a sheet which she suddenly throws off, sitting up and reaching to free her feet, her hair and clothing intact with no visible burns, when an ambulance person shoves her into the ambulance? It's profoundly chilling. There was no alcohol in her system and drugs are easily planted. She is very possibly a victim and not a perpetrator. Don't believe everything you hear.

@5:10 Dr. Drew is suggested she died from a fentanyl overdose when she crashed. If you watch the helicopter video, Anne sat up just before entering the ambulance. Also, from the police scanners, the paramedic where speaking to Anne while they were removing her from the vehicle. Need to check with the hospital to see if they gave her fentanyl for the pain she would have been in from the burns. In Addition, from the home video camera you could see her car speeding down the road with what sounded like metal or load brakes noise. The vehicle could have sustained damage from the prior accident when the car hit the garage. There is a video of the accident at a apartment/Condo where she hit a garage and speed off. Maybe when there are more reports from investigator Dr. Drew can come back for an interview. Suggesting suicide is just adding to the drama.

@@holidays4825 Actually there are a lot of people who say, "Hey I want to try drugs. Sounds like fun." And they proceed to seek out the drugs. I once worked with a former drug dealer of many years. He said a lot of people do drugs because they want to. It is a choice they make. There were many people he tried to sell to that told him go f.........k off and refused to speak with him. And most people who are 'talked' into trying it really try it because they really want to and just need someone else telling them to do it to make them feel better about doing it. He believed the only real victims of drugs were the ones who had drugs slipped to them in food, drink or through prescription meds. When it is slipped to you, you take it unknowingly. Prescription meds are just a mess. You have a doctor giving it to you because you really need it, but neither he nor you can know ahead of time if your system can take it or if you will succumb to it. I personally have no empathy for Anne. She was a celebrity, wealthy, and most importantly a mother of two sons. Her sons should have been the rock to anchor her to earth and get her through any rough times. I cannot think much good about a person who chooses drugs over their children. These people are selfish. I, personally, knew a young woman with 2 very young daughters of the ages 5 and 7. She committed suicide by cutting her wrists. She left those 2 girls. And what came of them? They learned what their mother did, and it messed them up. They both became drug addicts and one prostituted herself for the drugs and the other has been missing for several years now. They both burned through any inheritance as soon as they became of legal age. Very loving family took care of the girls but lost all control one they became adults. This is the legacy selfish people leave.

@@reesaserik3759 ~~ I know all you speak of yet it’s still a sad thing to happen. What you didn’t address is the fact that some people are certainly weaker than others regarding becoming addicted. A big draw is the curiosity and desire to simply see what it’s all about and that’s so sad. I will never believe that average intelligent people simply say, “I want to become addicted”. Same for being gay; I don’t believe anyone is born gay. What I can’t figure out is how in the world a man or a woman can take that first step to actually have sex with their own sex; that makes me sick more even than drug addiction. Too many wacko people around today and I believe Christ will return soon.
