Mike deserves the honorary medal of music contributions to humanity award. @@freestyleflatearthaklnz4034 Yeah he is, he has been apart of the Paul is dead therapy for decades now, it's partly nice to see him still spoken about even if it is in fake conspiracies... either way its nice to see people still listening to viv.
@@harrystanshall5088 He will never be forgotten. Even a few spoken lines is enough to want to know more - so his legend will continue as long as there is Tubular Bells.
J'ai découvert Mike Oldfield en 1974 quand mon prof d'école (lui-même grand musicien) nous l'a fait découvrir. Pour moi Tubular Bells 2 est la quintessence même de la musique, tout simplement
Lovin this on this Saturday morning. Was gonna sort out my car but now I will be hitting the Mike Oldfield collection instead. The man is a musical genius and Richard Branson owes him a lot.
My mate had a cd in his car with this on it.the disc was faded and it has taken ages for me to track this song down. Sheer musical bliss. Many thanks Mr Oldfield and crew.
ich bins nochmal, ich kann diesen song immer und immer wieder hören und bekomme jedes Mal eine Gänsehaut. Vielen Dank für dieses tolle Video! Five Stars from me.
DESDE LA PRIMERA VEZ QUE LO ESCUCHÉ EN 1973 ESTOY FASCINADO. REALMENTE HA SIDO "TOCADO POR LA MANO DE DIOS"
Vivian Stanshall had a unique musicality in just his voice. like Oliver Postgate, Brian Cant and Alan Coren, I can listen to all of them talking for hours on end.
@Patrick Armstrong I greatly prefer the original album version, narrated by Alan Rickman. This version is much shorter, skipping key portions like "the Venetian effect" and the entire ending sequence. The original was much better and more emotionally moving. And why in the world, when the narrator introduces the bass GUITAR, do they instead show a bass VIOLIN??? Other than a similar tonal range, the two instruments are nothing alike.
@@greatcitysportaction2289 How can you agree with both of us, when I think the original version is best and Patrick thinks this shortened version is best? Or do you like them both equally?
@@jiyu9694 This shortened version but I wish he could say the Glockenspiel and the finale of the song like how we see on the album version. However I still like this version better.
I've liked most of Mike Oldfield's work since he worked on the 'Blue Peter' theme back in the 1980's, and the 'Tubular Bells' series in particular. I was listening to this shortened version and decided to play the full length version for comparison, not only for musical differences, but to compare the voices of the Master of Ceremonies. It's been a very long time since I listened to it: I don't often play music just to listen to it. I got one heck of a surprise when I realised I recognised the MC's voice, not only from the album, but elsewhere, too. I looked it up to confirm my identification, and yes, I was right! Alan Rickman is known for his acting roles, having taken up so many during his career. What is less well known, unless you are a major Mike Oldfield fan, is that he MC'd the instruments being played in 'The Bell'. So, his distinctive voice is preserving his memory in the music as well as the acting world!
Belongtanick - I thank you. Oldfield and 'Lord' Stanshall, a great melding of British eccentricity the likes of which have never been seen nor likely to be matched. I urge readers of this site to look at Viv's great works.
This must be in the top 3 best minimalist pieces ever done and the video simply does not make it justice. The album version is WAY more polished than the one here, in nearly every single detail. Someone talented should just make a GREAT video with the original piece - I swear I'll watch it about million times myself alone...
IIRC he was in his middle age, so hardly "too young", but his death was indeed untimely and tragic (in a house fire, if memory serves me correctly, the poor bastard).

Mike Oldfield jest najlepszy ❤🇵🇱
Mike Oldfield the MASTER of sounds !
Yes, musical genius! Amazing masterpiece! This is Mike Oldfield! Perfect! Thank you, Mike! You are great!
The build up toward the end with grandad saying tubular bells is amazing
Grandad was great guy !! ( bonkers of course !) Be proud. Be very proud. He made lots of people very happy.
Is he genuinely your grandad? Some people say he was the same person as "Faul" McCartney.

To je prostě nádhera, lahoda na duši....
Fue mi primer disco de Mike Oldfield... tenía 15 años. Mi vida cambió para siempre y te doy las gracias por ello.
I always loved this riff. First used in the original Tubular Bells in 1974.
Ultimately... best musician ever...
This man is REALLY talented ! Wish I could play that many instruments ! Fantastic
+Renier van Wyk pompies Yes - me too! I think Mike plays around 20 different instruments =:o)
Beautiful
Nothing beats the original but this is brilliant too in a different way. Amazing musician.
It's amazing, eh? 🎼❤️👌
Nothing beats this version. Nothing compares to Vivian Stanshall.

Touched by God, no doubt about it, otherwise it would be impossible to compose something like that at the age of 17.
i could just you hug you for putting this up. Thank you, thank you. thankyou xxxxxxxxx
I love this song. It's fantastic. This singer is the best.
Still, the bell part make me so emotional. Song of my childhood!

Don´t worry folks, no bells was harmed in the making of this video.
the guitar riff was harmed, tho... I am still in deep love with the first version :)
