Lovin this on this Saturday morning. Was gonna sort out my car but now I will be hitting the Mike Oldfield collection instead. The man is a musical genius and Richard Branson owes him a lot.
@@freestyleflatearthaklnz4034 Yeah he is, he has been apart of the Paul is dead therapy for decades now, it's partly nice to see him still spoken about even if it is in fake conspiracies... either way its nice to see people still listening to viv.
@@harrystanshall5088 He will never be forgotten. Even a few spoken lines is enough to want to know more - so his legend will continue as long as there is Tubular Bells.
Five Stars from me.
My mate had a cd in his car with this on it.the disc was faded and it has taken ages for me to track this song down. Sheer musical bliss. Many thanks Mr Oldfield and crew.
I've liked most of Mike Oldfield's work since he worked on the 'Blue Peter' theme back in the 1980's, and the 'Tubular Bells' series in particular. I was listening to this shortened version and decided to play the full length version for comparison, not only for musical differences, but to compare the voices of the Master of Ceremonies. It's been a very long time since I listened to it: I don't often play music just to listen to it. I got one heck of a surprise when I realised I recognised the MC's voice, not only from the album, but elsewhere, too. I looked it up to confirm my identification, and yes, I was right! Alan Rickman is known for his acting roles, having taken up so many during his career. What is less well known, unless you are a major Mike Oldfield fan, is that he MC'd the instruments being played in 'The Bell'. So, his distinctive voice is preserving his memory in the music as well as the acting world!
Belongtanick - I thank you. Oldfield and 'Lord' Stanshall, a great melding of British eccentricity the likes of which have never been seen nor likely to be matched. I urge readers of this site to look at Viv's great works.
Vivian Stanshall had a unique musicality in just his voice. like Oliver Postgate, Brian Cant and Alan Coren, I can listen to all of them talking for hours on end.
ALGUIÉN PUEDE EXPLICAR POQUE ESTA COMPOSICIÓN MUSICAL HA CAUTIVANDO POR MÁS DE 50 AÑOS NUESTROS SENTIDOS ???? DESDE LA PRIMERA VEZ QUE LO ESCUCHÉ EN 1973 ESTOY FASCINADO. REALMENTE HA SIDO "TOCADO POR LA MANO DE DIOS"
@rikleith Vivian Stanshall is the bloke in this piece who did the MC intro on the 1973 original, appropriately for Virgin Records' first record release. Inspired by the Bonzo Dog Doo Da Band's 'The Intro and the Outro' , dated late 60s featuring Viv as the band's lead vocalist.. It's on you tube
@Patrick Armstrong I greatly prefer the original album version, narrated by Alan Rickman. This version is much shorter, skipping key portions like "the Venetian effect" and the entire ending sequence. The original was much better and more emotionally moving. And why in the world, when the narrator introduces the bass GUITAR, do they instead show a bass VIOLIN??? Other than a similar tonal range, the two instruments are nothing alike.
@@greatcitysportaction2289 How can you agree with both of us, when I think the original version is best and Patrick thinks this shortened version is best? Or do you like them both equally?
@@jiyu9694 This shortened version but I wish he could say the Glockenspiel and the finale of the song like how we see on the album version. However I still like this version better.
I love the fact that Oldfield refused to write Tubular Bells 2 for Virgin Records because they tried to pressure him into it, then went to another label and immediately wrote TB2 just to annoy Richard Branson. Class. Thank goodness he did write it though. What a lovely song The Bell is.
IIRC he was in his middle age, so hardly "too young", but his death was indeed untimely and tragic (in a house fire, if memory serves me correctly, the poor bastard).
Another masterpiece by Mike Oldfield, I have been a fan for over twenty years. I must however differ from KEVINMCCLEAVE's comment on the narrator. The narrator from TB1 was Viv Stanshall who I believe died when his flat caught fire, an event that happened before the release of TB2. Thank you Mike for your wonderful sound
pour ma part je suis déjà fan de Mike Oldfield depuis mon adolescence et pour la vidéo rien a redire ci non que la vidéo est a la auteur de son talent gg pour sa
@ljmike1204 indeed but I think that only on the videoclip, contra bass is fretless, but I'm pretty sure that part is played with bass guitar with frets. What do you think?
Que buenos recuerdos... cuando todavia hacia buena musica... Tengo todos y cada uno de los diskos de Oldfield originales, hasta la bas**** con la que desde hace unos años nos tortura. Cuando volvera el genio???
There is the Elements DVD, which contains Mike's music videos from 1973-1991, when he left Virgin for Warner. You are correct in asking, though. I thought you just might be mistaken. However, IMHO, I don't think Mike has enough music videos for a Warner compilation.
Still watching 2024 xx

They owe each other I think. Fab collaboration!
The build up toward the end with grandad saying tubular bells is amazing
Grandad was great guy !! ( bonkers of course !) Be proud. Be very proud. He made lots of people very happy.
Is he genuinely your grandad? Some people say he was the same person as "Faul" McCartney.
