That Proactiv commercial aged so badly to me not just because of Diddy. It was found out later that at the time, Proactiv products had harmful cancerous chemicals which is why your skin would feel like it was literally burning when you would use it. Al least that's what happened to me.
No same! My mom used it and let me try when I was 11 or 12 and the moment I had it on it burn my face and my mom said it’s supposed to sing a little when you put it on. But for me it was painful and burning a lot that after a minute I immediately washed it off and my whole face was red especially my cheeks, which were swollen. After a few hours, my face was normal, but my cheek still stayed red and were a little bit swollen that I look like a chipmunk and it was like that for two weeks straight in middle school and my cheeks hurt! People thought I had blush on or I was eating something due to my inflamed skin and I was teased for it a few months I was in school.😭😭😭 My mom said she kept using it for herself, but I never used it again. The thing was my mom didn’t believe me when I say it hurts when I put on the stuff. She thought I was overdramatic wouldn’t let me wash my face off until I kept saying it was really really painful for me and she scoffed and called me a baby until she saw my face then she try to help soothe my face and cheeks by putting on ice and lotion, but she never apologized and thinks I just had an allergic reaction that’s all and teased me for being weak.😅😅😅
@Krystal40553 It is possible you did have an allergic reaction though if swelling lasted days beyond washing it off. I personally can't use Neutrogena facial skin care products because it burns like acid on my skin and causes swelling, but it works fine for my mom. I use Cetaphil but that burns my mom. 😂 But I always heard from friends/family that Proactive always dried their skin out so bad and burned, I never tried it because it was too expensive.

I remember going to our video store to rent a video game and being so bummed when the jewel case wasn’t there. I remembered asking the clerk numerous times if they had something turned in that wasn’t on the shelf.
I have the pre-smart phone, pre-steam, pre-steam nostalgia too, everything being so readily available has devalued it. I don’t enjoy stuff like I used to and I’m also not sure if it’s because of overconsumption or being in my thirties 😅
What it is about blockbuster and calling friends on the phone. It was rarer so you just appreciate it more. Now you can do anything instantly and it has made it lose a lot of meaning. It's really sad to be honest.
Cosby also did commercials for Coke. Today, if I see an old Coke commercial where he hands someone a Coke I find myself screaming, "DON'T DRINK IT! YOU'LL REGRET IT WHEN YOU WAKE UP!!".

9:30 They overturned his conviction because of some illegal shenanigans by the prosecution. It had nothing to do with his guilt but because he didn’t get a fair trial. He was still very guilty.

RE: Cosby - the reason the conviction was overturned was because of prosecutorial misconduct (69% of all exonerations are due to official misconduct, actually.) When Cosby gave those depositions in the 90s, the prosecutor agreed that those depositions could not be used against him in court; they then proceeded to use those depositions to convict him. They can't do that - they agreed not to. I don't like it either but like. Follow the rules, maybe?
Yeah. I don't like the result, but there was justification for the verdict being overturned. And yeah, most successful appeals are based on whether the trial was "fair" rather than whether the person was innocent or guilty. "Actual innocence" appeals typically go nowhere.

He went in with a motorcycle helmet on and a gun and robbed the largest bank ( Regions) on our small town in Alabama. That was a crazy day! I think what made renting so great was making every minute you had with the game/movie count. Im from a rural ass town (village by definition) dead center of the Appalachians. The only place you could rent from was a small gass station/ local hangout called The Kwik Shop, and you'd get 1 night for $2.25, 2 nights for $4, or 7 nights for $10. My dad would only let me rent 1 game for Saturday and Sunday every week. I still VIVIDLY remember playing those games more-so than what i played last week. Simpsons: Road Rage, Smugglers Run, Red Dead Revolver, Freekstyle, Halo CE, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2+3, WWE Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth/ Here Comes the Pain, Spyro.. sooo many good memories lmao
I’m gen z and as a kid my family would rent movies and tv series from Netflix for us to watch together and it was the coolest thing, I loved it. It feels so nostalgic now. It’s also great when I tell my nieces and nephews that Netflix used to send discs in the mail 😂
My biggest issue with streaming is that it's EXPENSIVE. I do miss going to Blockbuster and the local movie rental shop and I miss not paying monthly fees to play my video games 😒
High school counselor here, and I need to say that 100% disagree with you. In my experience, for the majority of kids and teens, parents are their #1 biggest influence. It doesn't mean that kids aren't their own unique individuals. And it doesn't mean that teens wont often "rebel" to test their own autonomy and learn how they unique from their parents. And it also doesn't mean that peer pressure isn't a real thing. But in my experience, most children's core values, such as their concepts of right and wrong, how they see the world, and how they see themselves, come directly from their parents.
So I think I should clarify that when I say "influence" I do not necessarily mean "positive influence" . In my experience, MANY parents have very negatively influenced their children! Kids/teens that come from an abusive/neglectful home are much more likely to have negative self-image, have mental/emotional instability, and engage in risky/dangerous behavior(s). They are also more likely to be abusive/neglectful with their own children, which is how we see generational trauma. On the contrary, kids/teenagers with a caring and reliable parent(s)/guardian(s) are much more likely to have positive self-image, mental/emotional fortitude, and are less likely to engage in risky/dangerous behavior(s). For kids/teens without parents, they often are most influenced by their guardians, and the adults around them. That influence could be positive or negative, depending on who the guardians/adults are.
Absolutely not only a nostalgia thing, the excitement of finding physical media whether it's movies, games, music, whatever. It's totally a neat thing we have lost, also the fact we take everything being available for granted!
recently i’ve been thrifting childhood movies or movies i just love in general . you guys nailed it by saying “ the excitement of finally getting it “ i hunted down the movie hercules for over a month , so much satisfaction when i saw it
With the Netflix thing, it's like it went from luxury to convenience. It felt like Christmas when the DVDs came in the mail and I looked to see what movie mom ordered. Now watching movies is just impulsive.
Going to Blockbuster was a treat for my brother and I. Our parents letting us loose to pick 1 movie for the weekend. Bring those glorious days back! We'd spend at least 30 minutes perusing movies. parents just let us be until we were ready. Good old Blockbuster the innocent age before technology crapped on us!
Theres something to be said for creating excitement through ritual and scarcity - going to blockbuster was a special event, streaming is ubiquitous in this culture
We had a video store until the pandemonium in my city. We loved going in and picking games and movies. Now it's just a sad empty shell part of a chain building. I kinda wonder what's gonna happen to it.
I love the once a week hang session with my group of friends, we don’t get on our phone, we play cards, we bake, we watch tv, we paint, we just have a good time. I’m with Dane I cherish those times.
It depends on how tight knit your family is too! Friends become more impactful if your family is distant or even strict. Overly strict parenting can lead to rebellion, and kids/teens rebel together!
God it's so crazy, I remember watching little bill all the time as a kid, it's so sad that he turned out that way.... I also remember going to my local video rental store and getting VHS's as a 3 year old.... Where has the time gone?
Cosby's verdict was overturned NOT because thy found him innocent, but because they found the prosecutors made several errors in the case. He is still considered a convict and has to be on the sex registry in PA (I live in the state, and just like the Joe Paterno case, it was ALL the news talked about for ages). Cosby also lost the civil cases aganinst most of the women and some of the charges hav been brought against him in anothwer trial - ones that had been dropped initially, but that is ongoing atm.
I never went to Blockbuster, but my mom would take me to the library to rent VHS tapes. There was something special about having to go out of your way to get a movie.

You guys should make more nostalgic videos. This one kinda hit me in the feels. I'm gonna be 44 next month, and I still remember a lot of my old friend's home numbers.
44-year-old here! I mentally went through my BFF phone list while watching this 😊
I'll be 45 in a couple weeks and there's only like 10 that I still remember from before I was 20. The rest have slipped away with time. My late in-laws still had a contact book that was physical up until my father-in-law passed in 2018. I've been tempted to make one as well, but there's just so many people in my phone now. I'd just like to have a record in my safe in case something happens to me and my (adult) kids won't be able to get in my phone.
My kids freaked out when they tried to put commercials back in. I swear i remember commercials lasting 8 to 9 minutes. I can handle 2 minutes but my kids cant.
Itd be a great length of time for bathroom break or getting a snack😂
On UA-cam videos I cannot do it. But on regular tv it's helpful for bathroom breaks or getting a snack lol
@@eevesjunkyardI feel like they’re so much more disruptive & glitchy on UA-cam
If I'm paying for a service why do they need commercial revenue too? I pay for YT Premium and I hate it when it used to be free, but without itI alwaysseem to get unakippable "ads" that go on for hours sometimes

1:24 Holy shit that was Cam from Modern Family. I always find it cool to see the early roles of people. Especially when you know you saw it in the past but it was now when you realized who that actually was.
Is the man answering the door in the N Sync advert Jay from Modern Family as well?
@@misswilson_heatherThe voice doesn’t sound right so I don’t think so. Looks similar but the Jay and Al Bundy (his Married with children character) have a very distinct voice. He also played the antagonist in the movie Little Giants FYI.

I still use my mom's old landline # from 20 years ago at Kroger 😂

I still have a landline. Actually my parents had the landline and I am back living at home. Lost my Dad in 2020 and my Mom about 6 months ago. This will always be my home although keeping up with payments is crazy. I have been on disability for 12 years and have to live on less than $1,000.00 a month. I am so grateful to be on disability but could sure use a little bit more.
the dude that Drake Bell talked about was also close pen pals with John Wayne Gacey and had hundreds of letters from him and a clown portrait he made while in prison…

@Veldrusara oh nice, yeah all the ones around here vanished. I hear there's still 1 blockbuster too, I think it's in Colorado which is why South park made that episode. No idea if that's true though. But I know there's still A blockbuster somewhere lol

I believe Dane was single a long time and a couple of years ago he met a Fine lady who came into Danes life with an added little bonus of a small child, well as far as I've been able to figure out. Ken & Family recently had a renewal vow ceremony and Pewds and his family flew from Japan to attend then they went to Disneyland.

We used to have a saying back where I grew up in that was "Tell me who you walk with and I'll tell you who you are." So I have to agree with Ken that your close friends will have a big impact on who you become.
My mom used to always lecture me about actions having consequences. Even if I was not the one to act out and it was a friend I was with, that I would be guilty by association because I was there with that person. It really boiled down to making sure I kept my head on right and kept friends who did too.
I remember when i was little wishing i could fast forward through commercials 😂.
I'd just channel surf, my grandma hated that.
One would call that a visioneer
I also remember a UA-cam without constant ads grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

2:35 I agree with you 100%. I have so many memories growing up browsing video stores. It was always a thing me and my dad used to do rent a movie and go home and watch it. Will never forget being in grade school and going to phar-mor with my mom and being completely amazed at all the cheesy box art of 80s horror movies. Ahhhh those were the days. 😢
Yes..... It was a treat.
People thought I had blush on or I was eating something due to my inflamed skin and I was teased for it a few months I was in school.😭😭😭
My mom said she kept using it for herself, but I never used it again.
@Krystal40553
It is possible you did have an allergic reaction though if swelling lasted days beyond washing it off.
I personally can't use Neutrogena facial skin care products because it burns like acid on my skin and causes swelling, but it works fine for my mom. I use Cetaphil but that burns my mom. 😂
But I always heard from friends/family that Proactive always dried their skin out so bad and burned, I never tried it because it was too expensive.
Benzoyl peroxide in general can also be an irritant for many people.
🙄

I remember going to our video store to rent a video game and being so bummed when the jewel case wasn’t there. I remembered asking the clerk numerous times if they had something turned in that wasn’t on the shelf.
I have the pre-smart phone, pre-steam, pre-steam nostalgia too, everything being so readily available has devalued it. I don’t enjoy stuff like I used to and I’m also not sure if it’s because of overconsumption or being in my thirties 😅
2:16 extra dirty popcorn 🍿 candy 🍬 and pop 🥤 was all you needed ❤
What it is about blockbuster and calling friends on the phone. It was rarer so you just appreciate it more. Now you can do anything instantly and it has made it lose a lot of meaning. It's really sad to be honest.
Cosby also did commercials for Coke. Today, if I see an old Coke commercial where he hands someone a Coke I find myself screaming, "DON'T DRINK IT! YOU'LL REGRET IT WHEN YOU WAKE UP!!".
This really emphasises the hypocrisy of all these celebrities who get paid millions to shove these good messages down our throats. Gross.
It’s so crazy to me that celebrities who commit crimes, especially towards others, think that they’re not going to get noticed when they literally spend their lives on display for the world
9:30 They overturned his conviction because of some illegal shenanigans by the prosecution. It had nothing to do with his guilt but because he didn’t get a fair trial. He was still very guilty.
I miss video rental stores, I miss going out and finding movies and even renting consoles out on school holidays, now everyone is glued to their phones. It's so important for kids to be able to entertain themselves without a screen and when their alone.
Gen Z will never know the feeling of "Damn The Craft isn't available:"' and seeing another witch movie and when you get to your grandma's house it starting out with women dancing topless and both of you being mortified and now you don't have a movie (mortified is the with grandma part)
After seeing that pickle boy thing you can't convince me that Nickelodeon wasn't just some giant predo ring. Investigate everyone, even the dancing lobsters!!!
It's a damn shame :/
Dane’s reaction to the Tyson vs Paul fight was me all last weekend.
RE: Cosby - the reason the conviction was overturned was because of prosecutorial misconduct (69% of all exonerations are due to official misconduct, actually.)
When Cosby gave those depositions in the 90s, the prosecutor agreed that those depositions could not be used against him in court; they then proceeded to use those depositions to convict him.

Who still remembers Blockbuster? I sure do!
I was a blockbuster employee, yes we remember 😂😂
We had 2 in my city, I also loved Family Video and Hollywood Video.
@@AwkwardBlackGal613 Funny. There were 2 Blockbuster stores in my old Puerto Rican hometown too.
@ARTSONICFAN990 crazy what happens in a small town. One of my fellow blockbuster employees robbed a bank in my town less than a month after he was fired. Lol. It was so wild. He went in with a motorcycle helmet on and a gun and robbed the largest bank ( Regions) on our small town in Alabama. That was a crazy day! As a former co-employee, I got questioned by local detectives as to a possible motive . Lol. Crazy times.
@@AwkwardBlackGal613 I loved Hollywood Video the most because they sold used video games at a good discount.

What happens when they hate their parents or don't have any? 😮
Biology is the biggest influence. What part of their lives are they influencing? Is it a bigger part than the parts other kids and teens influence?
There's so many more they could have shown. The AYDS weight loss candy. Anything with Jimmy Savile in it. The list goes on! 😂
Dane's shirt is gorgeous, he looks dashing in this video!
10:42 I also feel like it's both. I moved a lot as a kid so the variety of friends along with the house dynamic definitely shaped my views.

Oh no little bill was one of my childhood tv shows
Me too, I used to watch that all the time
With the Netflix thing, it's like it went from luxury to convenience.
The P Diddy "Unforgivable" definitely aged perfectly. Almost like foreshadowing. 😅
Theres something to be said for creating excitement through ritual and scarcity - going to blockbuster was a special event, streaming is ubiquitous in this culture

It depends on how tight knit your family is too! Friends become more impactful if your family is distant or even strict. Overly strict parenting can lead to rebellion, and kids/teens rebel together!
