    Most pop songs are just 120bpm. I am hoping to get good enough (at piano) to write 2-3 minute pop songs. Do I still need to work on speed (often)? 😀. Thank you, loving your channel!

    I am having problems with my pinky. It is like someone else is controlling it lol. It's always sticking out. Are there any excises for that?

    I "discovered" this practice technique on my own, but nice to see it confirmed by a much more advanced player. Another practice technique I found useful was to repeat what was covered here but playing staccato. You can't really "let loose" as much with staccato (or it won't sound very staccato lol), but when you go back to playing more smoothly, it improves your evenness when flying up and down the keyboard.

      Brilliant idea. I also teach the staccato method and its great for developing a lightness of touch and control.

    This IS the best piano instruction on youtube, never played piano in my life, only started recently and thanks to these, have found playing a breeze, wish I had learned years ago. So many exercises to run through but you can experiment and play around. Piano is so versatile. Can not thank Yosef enough!

    I might be dating myself but my typing teacher in high school used this same technique. We would type the paragraph we were reading using ultra correct keystroke. Then we did the next paragraph as fast as we could, giving about 5% care to what we were typing. Then back to ultra precision. It really works!

    My Roland RD=88 has about 55 grams of key weighted action, kind of hard to get any speed with it. Any suggestions? I know that is what the video is about, but i cant get the keys to rebound ... I really wish someone would invent a keyboard that you can enter a digital weighted action that can be adjusted electronically. Like a magnetic inductance controlled weighted action where you can adjust the resistance and rebound time.

      I know this might not be what you want to hear but its really is a case of slowly and carefully developing the strength in the fingers and wrist. I'm also playing here on a weighted keyboard. My suggestion, take your time and for a few days simply treat the exercise as a gym workout. Go to the burn, then stop, rest, repeat (or what you feel comfortable with, I don't know you). In this respect having weighted keys will be an advantage. A few days of this and your fingers will feel a lot stronger and capable.

    This is a fascinating way of looking at it, and reminds me a bit of weight training, where you sometimes train with relatively low weights, but very explosively, in order to teach your nervous system to recruit as many muscle fibers as possible for any given exercise.

    • @Creativepianoacademy
      @Creativepianoacademy  2 роки тому

      Makes perfect sense. I've been teaching this for years for piano but i might give it shot in the gym! :)

    It's like the pendulum on a clock, you go back and forth between speed and accuracy, and they meet up in the middle after a period of time, so you'll ultimately have both.
    I do a similar thing with scales, all 24 of them. Some are better than others, but every day, I play each one, both hands, four octaves, ascending and descending. I'm more focused on accuracy, but because 24 scales can take all day, I throw speed into the mix. So long as I can do them with correct fingerings, I'm not as concerned with the other two aspects. As a result, I've improved on all three. You're a good teacher for those of us teaching ourselves.

    • @Creativepianoacademy

      Great analogy with the pendulum and is exactly why and how I believe this method works.
