- Let's play Travellers Rest, a crafting/building tavern-keeping sim with notes of Stardew Valley and Graveyard Keeper! I played the game a ton in 2023, but haven't tried all the new updates. Now is the time!

They got rid of the tavernkeeper's vision mechanic quite a while ago. You just have to keep an eye on the tables and green arrows pointing out dirt until you can afford some staff to do it for you.
I think the tutorial is a bit too long, but it's thorough. I'd probably appreciate it if I was absolutely new to the game.
I am with you--the tutorial is really long. Good for total new players, but maybe as the game continues to cook they will add the option to skip it for future updates.
@@DrIncompetent There was actually a patch within the last couple of days that allows you to skip the tutorial, however you have to go through it at least 1 time still apparently and then any future playthroughs after that are supposed to give an option to skip it.
@@atryeu1 Yeah, you can skip the tutorial after doing it once (I did it twice because I wanted to play the beta). Mai will complain at you a bit, suggest you do the tutorial if you haven't, and beg you not to overwrite your current save if you do go off to do the tutorial.
@@nuala_munnelly Thanks for confirming :D I wonder if they will ever allow you to just skip the tutorial completely without having to go through it once. Once the game is more complete I'd do a new file and likely the tutorial for the experience of it either way but in the meantime I have an 80+ hour save I can't get myself to just drop to start all over again with no real reason yet haha.
It’s a great game, got it when it was free during EA sadly still waiting on multiplayer. In steam you can scroll down they do have a roadmap somewhere
I like the new changes! I hope multi player does come soon!

The start of this tutorial has some Graveyard Keeper feels to it, or was that just me? I need to get back to this at some point but I slowed down after that fishing update and put it aside for awhile. I miss the ability to customize the dishes how I wanted, it was one of my favorite parts of the game honestly :( After the seasons and that weird shrine thingy was added the game had a lot of FPS drops for me too so it doesn't run as well as it did before on this non gaming PC which is sad. The farming (watering mostly) and the fishing are a big struggle I felt with the controller so I'm curious to see if you can manage them better with one than I could. I look forward to seeing some more and hoping to get back into this soon as well although I'll continue my progress rather than do a new file I think. I was close to an achievement for the 50+ people in the tavern at once haha.
The beach lag at least seems to be rough on a lot of people. I hope someone mods out the fishing minigame once this game is finally out of EA (I hope that's once they add the mine and whatever else is up next, because if they wait to finish the story, it might be in early access for another 4 years). It's not bad as a minigame, but too much of a timesink for the speed of days in game.
I'm also willing to bet they'll bring back some of the customization at some point; on discord and the steam forums, the loss of that creative aspect of the game is a pretty universal complaint.
@@nuala_munnelly Yeah I read through the Steam forums off and on but I don't do Discord so I'm not sure about there. I've seen a lot of people want that customize feature back as well. It was kind of my way to still get to interact with a lot of those foods that I became suddenly allergic to in real life a few years back. I miss those foods and at least I could still play with them in a digital world but not any more :(
At least the beach wasn't lagging as bad as that little temple/shrine thing. FPS was dropping down to like 5 for me in that area. They patched it a little but it's still below 20FPS in that area for me :( The beach was a bit higher. I haven't tried the game since they added the settings for the water to see if it helped any. Part of the fishing issue was it really doesn't work well with a controller for me though. I had managed only 2-3 items fished but most get away. I picked up Echoes of Plum Grove in the summer sale and heard you can turn the fishing mini game off in that which is awesome :D I have no issues with the mini games in general but the Traveller's Rest one just doesn't work so well with a controller.
Yes! So much like GYK! I agree--customizing dishes was awesome! Wow, I will have to watch out for that FPS hit--that sounds awful...
Thanks for clarifying all of this! Yeah, I hope it doesn't sit in EA for 4 more years :( I'm down for modding the fishing too--I don't like too much grind, especially with fast days.
