    I have just discovered the Retina series from the 1950's. I have the 111c, f2 Xenon lens, range finder and meter. The engineering on these 1950's cameras is brilliant. Using these cameras is not easy compared to an SLR but nevertheless great fun and the sound of the leaf shutter is very satisfying. I also have two interchangeable lenses, the 80mm and the 35mm. They are so inconvenient to use but you just marvel at the technical excellence. Definitely now one of my favourite cameras.

      I feel the same. I do find after a while they become easier to use. But it's not as intuitive as an SLR.
      But the quality of the Retina cameras is fantastic

      @@dangerpowers123 One thing you have to be careful is advancing the film it's not a F2, many Retinas have the film advance broken, this camera is like a fine watch you can't force the advance lever. How they get broken is you get to the end of the roll and as you advance just before it's cocked you can't advance anymore. People will try to get it to advance that last 1/4 of an inch and break the camera.

    Lovely camera. I just bought one at an annual vintage camera swap event near me. I am eager to shoot some film with it. Unlike your model, mine has a self timer lever under the lens. I will be gifting this to our teen niece who wants to learn photography. Thanks for your video.

    Have you shot a roll yet? I just did a scanned the second roll I did in mine. On the first roll I realized the meter was off. It works, but was consistently underexposing (probably a linkage issue). By checking against a Gossen Luna Pro F and a Gossen Pilot 2 meter, I determined I could set the camera meter to ASA 160 to 200 and it would then give proper exposures for ISO 400 film. So that's what I did for the second roll. It looks like it worked.

      ranovakclcovino I've shot two rolls and hope to get them developed on Monday at a one hour service in boots. I hope it's metering ok... It seemed about right, but I'll know for sure soon

    I'm thinking of getting the Retinette IIA (type 036) and heard it's similar to the IB? Lovely camera!!

    Enjoyed your review. I'll most likely be using mine for landscapes, so small aperture and focus at infinity or at least hyperfocal distance for the f/stop; but If you could provide the model number for the clip-on rangefinder, I'd love to search one out. Thanks!

    Thanks for review. This was one of the best compact german cameras at the sixties, wide range of shutter speeds, gossen coupled lightmeter. I've got four of them and a lot of voigtlanders, agfas etc...Retinette is the best. Camera for loving :)

      In my defence this was my first ever video on my channel and I dunno I just never felt the need to make a part 2. Maybe I'll just do a totally new and better video for this camera. As I still use it and it's great fun to shoot with

      I just bought this camera online:) would love to know the outcomes and any tutorials on calculating the focal length. May I know what’s the button and number top the right side?

    • @dangerpowers123
      @dangerpowers123  6 років тому

      @@waitungwong5338 hi, so the focal length is a fixed lens. That doesn't change. But when you focus on something then I found a hot shoe range finder helpful. But get one that's tells you the distance in meters if the lens is in meters. Some have the distance scale in feet on the lens so then you need a range finder attached that works in feet. I actually tend to use this camera in good sunny conditions so I can shoot at around f8 to f11 and then I only have to be roughly correct with my focusing and everything will be sharp.

    Does this camera use any kind of batteries?

    • @dangerpowers123
      @dangerpowers123  6 років тому

      Makfabias , no it doesn't use any. It's fully mechanical. The light meter works by using selenium cells.
