I know this is probably a bit late, but I have experienced similar things with friendships. The constant uncertainty, the feeling like you aren't a priority for them, feeling excluded with little to no reason. This is linked to my anxiety and may be a cause of what you are feeling. If this is the case, it can be difficult to differentiate actual signs from your own paranoia. But you'll get through it, I promise. :)

cocaine :P Giving yourself a reward for when you reach a certain point in your studysession might also work. Dopamine is a reward based system. Every time you get something good, more dopamine will flush into the synapse which will result in more dopamine receptors being activated (which will make you feel good about studying as an end result).

the best way would be intrakranial stimulation with an electrode, but this could be hard to practice :D Just give yourself a reward after you have made an hour of learning, this works too, because natural rewards like food, sex, or whatever you consider a reward for yourself stimulate the Mesolimbic DA-System. This is why a good grade in a test works as a reward and motivation for the next one. well, at least theoreticly :D

hey ASAPScience! question about love decreasing the levels of serotonin... I always thought of serotonin as the "happy neurotransmitter" and that low levels of serotonin are found in people experiencing depression. Isn't that a bit contradictory, since love decreases these levels but doesn't make someone feel more depressed?

That's a good question, I'm also interested in the answer. I've tried the good friend approach, and the dumbass cool guy, doesn't really work long term, I would suggest being yourself and find a good moment and place to confess by yourself, but don't rush it...
Still, I'm not sure if that's the scientifically best method... also it's hard to put in place, cause one always feels that he might be rejected, so a person can feel a lot of insecurity. But take your time (not forever, that's also not good) and see how he/she reacts when they're with you.
As AsapSCIENCE said, scientists still aren't sure how love works. What makes someone attracted to another? Because if the attraction isn't mutual, there is no point in telling him/her. Maybe a bit of it is pheromones, but it really does come down to the girl/guy in question, whatever their preferences are. I'm most attracted to knowledge and humour, for example, but another girl may just want a tight ass u kno wat I'm sayin? ....ahem. Just tell him/her whenever it feels right to you! When the mood is there... you'll know it when it happens, trust me. And if you never feel like that, then it was never right!

Scientifically, appeal to their most basic brain functions. Women are more likely to be attracted to men who are strong, able to defend themselves, and can provide for a prospective family. Men are more likely to be attracted to women who appear healthy and have genes that would make their children better. This is scientifically, humans are by nature unpredictable, but this might add 1 or 2 percent to someone's chances.
