wowowowowow! ty ty ty! Two of my absolute favs and the shot making is divine. What a great match! I love the contrasting stroke production and aggression and counterpoint. And both had such good serves. Great tennis!!!
I have to say I loved the way Monica moved forward in this match. This is because of Henin's incredible defense. She gets to everything so it forced Monica to move forward to end the points quicker.
Before that life changing stabbing, Monica was the most fearless competitor i had ever seen. When she returned to the tour she was never the same, but her srealy killer instincts remained. This match vs Henin attests to that.
I interviewed Yayuk Basuki, who was a top 20 singles player in the 1990s, several times. I asked her who was the toughest competitor she had faced, and she played Graf, Navratilova, Capriati, Davenport, Hingis, etc, etc. And she said by far it was pre-stabbing Monica because she did her utmost to win every single point with such dogged determination. Relentless.
@@brucee6123 You activated my memory. I remember Yayuk. Was/is she from Indonesia or Malaysia? She was a good net player too. I saw all of the players you mentioned and when i she 16yr old Monica, i was both stunned by her ferocity and frightened for anyone that played her.
These two always had close matches. What Seles was good at with her and Mauresmo and Sabatini was taking the loopy forehand on the rise , however Henin was a bit more powerful than Mauresmo and Sabatini and if she got the back hand into place Seles was in trouble as it would result in either an error or short ball from Seles which Henin would put away .I watched them play at Wimbledon and also seen Capriati and Serena and they hit the ball so hard but were very fit .Seles was a bit more of a retriever though she was very good at it.
Monica was more than a brainless ball basher like most of today’s players, she changed tactics in this match and pin pointed Justine’s forehand which used to break down at this point in her career 🎉
Monica used angles and drop shots and used the moon ball as a tactic sometimes aswell , she would also play to opponents weaknesses she was a clever player with great hands and amazing eye hand coordination, after the stabbing she did lack some mobility but was still a tough opponent for most of the great players of that time .
Thank you

What a great match. Henin showed us what was to come and Seles fought hard to pull through this one
Thanks for the upload! 😄 I love these two;

Thank you!
Two of my all time favorites! Justine's style is missed!!!!! Ons Jabeur comes closest but she doesn't have the speed JH had.
Agreed . However Ons Jabeur needs to lose quite a few lbs and she would be perfect.
A quality performance from both

this one probably tired Monica for that awful match vs Capriati
Awful? I thought the match was pretty great?
Thought the same thing..she did not look fit in that next match and Jennifer was on that day

No offense, but Monico was pretty much the inventor of brainless ball-bashing. No plan B, little tactical finesse, poor volleying.
@@fundhund62 you do have no clue about tennis it seems, Monica invented power tennis, her style has nothing to do with ball bashing.

Big crack down from henin.. she should have had this win.. slower higher bounce hardcourt.. she blew this
