- Have you ever wondered what the Bechdel Test (or Bechdel Wallace Test) is? Here's a brief summary along with some films I was shocked that didn't pass!
What are your thoughts? Do you think this method of film analysis is outdated or accurate?
Can you think of any more I might have missed?!

Wow, its almost like mere "representation" does not decide whether a movie is good or not.
I dont think it was ever meant to be an indicator of whether a film was good or not. Its just a thinking point for discussion 😊
The problem with the Bechdel Test that it’s mainly used to criticize movies that don’t live up to that standard instead of actually addressing the root causes of why so many films would fail the test. The problem really isn’t about the men who makes these movies but actually the women who pay to see it! Overall, most women do not care about the Bechdal Test and do like seeing romantic comedies and tragic dramas. Hollywood is a business, and they will keep making these movies as long as women will continue to spend their money on it! If people want more movies made to be able to pass the Bechdal Test, then more of them need to start letting their money do all of the talking and financially support more movies that would pass that standard!

Its so interesting isnt it how many versions there are of the test. Which one are you most familiar with?
not sure if that test is a legal diversity type quota that has to be implemented in film and TV. unless a writer utilises it in the story.
It's not a legal requirement, it was just created for film analysis purposes. Some argue it is an outdated method of representing women in film anyway, but it's definitely interesting to see how many films don't meet this basic criteria 😅
@@izzyk1998 the big budget movies with female leads in more recent films have done well in promoting women though. With mixed financial results but more power to the creatives. But the budget to profit ratios have major studios worried.
