Per this informative video and comment thread, purchased a 2 tb drive for ~ $65 on AMAZON, then switched it out for my dead hard drive. I reformatted the new drive after it was installed in the channel master. Only tool needed was a Phillips screwdriver. THANKYOU Anthony M and @rhpeterson
Thanks very much. This worked great. I followed the procedure to the letter. My local Best Buy had the exact same HDD. Installed it, formatted it from the DVR menu - DVR, DVR Setup, Re-Initialize Storage Device. Ran Check Disk from the same menu. HDD: WD Blue, 1 TB, 2.5”, Model wd10spzx-spz10t0
Here are the answers to a couple questions below. I just successfully replaced my hard drive from Anthony's video and it's working perfectly (thanks Anthony!) The hard drive originally in my unit was a Toshiba 1 Gb drive, model MQ01ABD100V. I replaced the drive with a 2 Gb drive in the same series, Toshiba model MQ04ABD200 (sometimes listed as MQ04ABD200-PS). On Amazon it was about $65. Both the original and replacement are SATA drives, 2.5 inch drive, 9.5 mm thick. In theory any SATA drive with these dimensions should work, but of course I can't guarantee that. I'm considering buying another for next time the hard drive goes out. The original one lasted five years and these drives won't be available forever. When I turned on my DVR after replacing the hard drive, I got an error message saying recording would be disabled. Get rid of this error by doing a factory reset (you have to select the full reset option that erases all the recordings). This will format the new drive and you will be good to go. Note: I would like to know the max size hard drive this unit could format and use. If anyone has an answer, please post it in the comments.
Hi Anthony, May I know did you have to transfer any programmed software in the original HDD to the new HDD also where did you find your information on the compatible HDD?
@@anthonym8807 May I know if you're still using the device as your day to day DVR? Also what model of HDD did you use? It appears to be a 2.5 inch laptop HDD... I wonder if SSD would work...
@@henricomartin101 yes, still working perfect. Yes, it was a standard laptop hard drive. I don't see why a SSD shouldn't work, but I have never tried and I don't represent any companies (hard drive or channel master).
Great video thanks. I have 2 of these and the harddrive,s went out on both. I am using 2 externals. I wonder why these go bad early? Is it because of bad venting for the heat? And do you think a solid state drive would be better?
Anthony, thank you for your video! I was wonder what internal hard drive you replaced it with exactly. I would like to order one for my channel Master. I contacted Channel Master and they told me I couldn’t change it. Thanks!!

curious... does using the 2T drive double the capacity?
Thanks for sharing. I just removed the old hard drive, reformatted it on my PC, then reinstalled and re-initialized. Worked fine.
Thank you for posting. It was exactly what I needed to see. Once the HD was replaced, my Channel Master DVR+ worked perfectly.
Is the ram accessible/upgradable? Curious. Thx for the vid!
haven't tried. sorry

I didn't move any software. I just put it in and it worked.

@@anthonym8807 Just out of curiosity, the port appears to be SATA right?
@@henricomartin101 I provided more information about hard drive elsewhere in this thread.

Yes, I've been using it since with no issues
