It all started with the AD-10 some years back when i turned into a Demko fan. Ended up getting various other cold steels he designed & have a difficult time trusting other locks. Good review. I’ll be adding this one to the collection as well.
I only use a fixed blade for hunting. Too much gunk gets into hard to clean places on a folder. Still, it looks like a good folder for plenty of things.
This thing is just the blade, two pieces of G10, the washers and the lockback. You can just run some water over it, dry off and it's good to go. Splash it around in some warm soapy water if you have the luxury. Surprisingly easy maintenance!
Thanks Aaron, I dig that folder a lot Have a blessed weekend
Aaron, I own the earlier version of the Ultimate Hunter in CTS-XHP Steel for around 3 years now. This knife is great on cutting meat and all other foods, all utility work and many other tasks. The ONLY thing it does not excel at is, wood processing. I truly hope you get to review the Cold Steel AD10. Thanks for the video my Bladed Brother ⚔️✝️
Excellent Review. Thanks for the details that are usually never talked about. Thanks.
That is a well designed knife. I like strong tips. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I looked at the Ultimate Hunter and the Bush Ranger but I ended up going with the AD10 for the pure beast factor and because the handle on the AD10 is by far the most comfortable handle I've ever held on a folder
I WAS going to get the AD-10 then my car died . Now all I see are AD-10 videos lol.
I hate cars. My car cost me my trip to Blade Show West last year
I love this blade. One of my favorites.
Love the flight of the concords reference
I use mine as a back-up dressing, utility knife, to my fixed blade on my hip. nice and sharp!!
I usually take a Benchmade Griptilian as my 2nd backup for deer hunting, but this looks like it would do the job with no issues.
This is a much more hard use knife than a griptilian lmaooo
Always great videos, it seems to me there is a point when a folding knife gets big an heavy enough that you might as well carry a fixed blade . The Bush Ranger although a great knife reaches that point for me whereas the Ultimate Hunter does every outdoor task I've thrown at it and still is small and light enough to warrant carrying instead of a fixed.
I agree with this. To say the bush ranger excels in every other category is wrong. It is worse for pocket carry. That's what makes the ultimate hunter more desirable for me. Awesome heavy duty capability taking up reasonable pocket space and weight.
I just got one in cts xhp steel. Old stock from my local knife shop. The last one in this steel too. All the others are s35vn.
I have this knife and I love it !
That is exactly what I was thinking about the Bush Ranger......hit every branch! I have handled neither of those blades but I like the look of the Ultimate Hunter much better.
Awesome job!!!
I really like this knife. I can’t say anything regarding the comparison between this and the Bush Ranger, as I’ve never held one.
Nice review Aaron . I have the XHP model and it didn't have those issues with the lock , the f&f was excellent . I never really connected with the knife , I'm not a Hunter, and I like my knives to have a pointier tip for piercing materials easier , and self-defense purposes. Me , I love my Recon1's and Voyager's , and their cheaper. The Voyager is grossly underrated, imo and is one of the Best all around budget , edc , self-defense knives on the planet.
Agreed. Voyager ftw!
Brian F Totally agree! I love my Voyagers.👍👍
I remember asking you to review this knife a while ago. I did gave it to a friend of mine after I bought the AD10 which kicked the UH ass!
Not to worry about the knife not being flush when deployed. I own 3 of the CS 4max's and found them to also be like you say.
I broke my kerahaw blur yesterday coming out of my deer stand (don’t ask lol) might have to check this bad boy out
I'm addicted to the Spyder hole but, anyways, I find that blade too wide to do fine tasks considering that for batoning or chopping I'd never use any folder, specially if it is not cheap (plus shipping and import taxes in my case being European). A Voyager, American Lawman or Recon would be my limits of practicity and I am not exactly planning to get lost in the Amazon carrying only a folder.
I bought both the Ultimate Hunter and the Bush Ranger Lite … because I can. They’re both good knives.
I really like the ultimate Hunter, I own one, I use it when I'm out in the woods. It has it's own purpose as well as my fixed blade, which is my primary knife...
@Jeremy two Cold steel master Hunter, and depending on the task, I'll switch it out for the Lt wright Jessmuck...
@Jeremy two Nice, it's good to have options though...
Great vid Aaron. Thanks for sharing! BTW, I had two Bush Rangers.... Both had to go back because of lock issues. Right out of the box, one would not lock up tight, and the other would not stay closed correctly. Maybe one of these days I'll try again...
Dang.
My Bush Ranger excels and feels custom built. Love it.
@@deanburney sweet brother! I miss mine. Hopefully they've got the bugs worked out. Maybe its time I try another! 👍🏻👍🏻
Cold Steel SR1 is a great option.
Please review the Ferrum Forge Archbishop 2.0 Just moved it up to my primary EDC over the wonderful (and nicely reviewed by Gideonstactical) Spyderco Manix 2.. Would love to see a Gideon review on the Archbishop!!
I will take you Pheasant Hunting if you come to Virginia. Very Cool Cold Steel knife GT !!!!!!
Looks kinda like a folding Pendleton Lite Hunter.
This is the recon 1 with a drop point and satin finish I never had.
What could better? The AD10! 😀. Both are great buy the AD10 edges the UH out....except maybe for weight (and price).
Great video I would love to see a comparison to the AD10 it would be my pleasure to lend you mine if you like I wouldn't care if you scratched it up it stays in my bugout bag so I dont use it let me know
Do you prefer the ultimate Hunter or recon 1?
That is a great looking knife! 02/16/2021
Great video
Cold Steel has really gotten their actions on deployment down lately. The just keep getting better.
I thought so!! I got the new AUS10A Espada, my old one is completely broken in and smooth now, but started off really tough. This one straight out of the box is smooth and satisfying with a real bang when the lock hits home. Got an S35vn Code 4 too and it's just so slick, comes out with such little effort and free falls. There's not even any reason to buy an assisted. What have they changed???
I have the CTS-XHP version. The blade on mine doesn't remotely flick open like yours. I wish it did.
troyvoorhees My XHP version is more similar to yours. I did ever so slightly loosen the pivot and it made a world of difference while maintaining rock solid lockup. It’s not quite as smooth as Aaron’s though.
I prefer to know the chest pack model
No liners on this is also a design point if you're using it as a hunting knife then it's easier to clean, stops it getting gunked up too much.
I carry the ultimate hunter. And the recon 1. Best of both worlds and needs.
Looks like the AD-10
Just purchased the orange version! Thanks for helping me spend my money😁🔪🔪
I feel like it is a slightly scaled-down version of their Demko designed AD-10 with the swedge removed at nearly the same price point. Why not make it in a different steel and hit a different point (and fix those design flaws while they are at it)? 🤔
I didn't connect with the Ultimate Hunter, when the AD10 was released I couldn't purchase it fast enough!
I own and love the ad10, although I've noticed that the blade wiggles slightly when closed, have you experienced this ?
@@Wolverine-hj2cd Yes, it moves a little but I wouldn't say it's loose. My Griptilian, Freek and Native 5 are the same but they all lock up solid!
Love Cold Steel.
I would still go with the fixed blade Ultimate Hunter. You cannot pry with a folder or do many of the tasks a fixed blade can. Thats a big chunky folder too; it looks like a uncomfortable carry.
Master Hunter?
My CS UH Knife is the best of the rest. I own 12 and like this one ovef the rest.
Please "Cold Steel" make budget version for CS Ultimate Hunter as you made for Broken Skull .
I'm buying the ultimate hunter to warm me up to the ad10. To then warm me up to the 4max.
Hey Arron .. the chest rig your wearing is it? the 511 "all mission rig" and if so what's the other part . It looks great
@Castle Bravo I don't think it's really that bad lol
Sorry for the intrusion but I would like some advice. Which model is better depending on the wave plus or rebar pilers? Which would you recommend for everyday work at home?
jose manuel I believe the wave is a little bigger and stronger
I have both. I like the wave plus much better.
I took sandpaper to the top edges of the scales and made the blade a clip point. Perfect EDC, IMO and just a great handle.
cool
The ad10....
Finally . 👍
Looks sort of like a Dozier design. KABAR Dozier in my hand?
The Dozier is a great knife. I've beaten one down and had no issues. The Ultimate Hunter is designed by Andrew Demko. Demko designs are amazing. Particularly the AD10
@@Eldofarmboy I have a couple of Kabar Doziers, but they are not really in the same league as the CS Ultimate Hunter. Just designs look similar. If I was going hunting, I would take along my Mora 2000 or Marttinni Skinner.
@@thomasmaloney843 there is no denying that the Dozier isn't as tough as the Ultimate Hunter. That being said I have a video where I beat the absolute 💩 out of my Dozier and the thing took it. All I had to do was tighten up the pivot afterward because it backed out a bit. When I'm in the woods I carry an absolute overkill knife system. I carry my Paramilitary 2, AD10, Victorinox Swisschamp, multitool, a survival knife in my backpack, and a small companion knife like the Mora Garberg or my Fallkniven S1 on my belt. I guess you can say I'm nuts but I like to always be sure that I have backups of my multitool, folder, and fixed blade!
Cold steel has such a solid lock that's never a question is the geometry good for skinning?
Gideon, what do you mean, “You’re not a Hunter!?” I take knife advice from you and you don’t even hunt!?
Yep 👍
I am working on learning
Cold steel bush ranger... I paused the video before and am just guessing by the hints in the thumbnail.. bet I'm right
The thumbstud isnt one piece. Its made to look like a screw but it two pieces.
This video sponsored by Flight of the Concords!
Grosvenor88 haha nice, glad somebody noticed
When are you going to review Shadow Tech Knives? Made here in Ohio and are super cool. 👊
They are pretty cool looking. That one you had in one of your vids looked like a blast to use
Like I always say animals been getting carved up by the buck 110 for generations all u need. You don't even need that much even
The blade is us steel and the g10 handles are machined in the us I wonder why they send it to Taiwan for assembly of American materials?.
Fender does the same thing with the so called Made in Mexico Stratocaster. All the parts are U.S. made, then trucked to Mexico for assembly
mister smith I guess labor is cheaper sending it out of country but I rather buy American made and pay extra by keeping jobs and money in America, just my personal opinion.
@@freedomring6364 I absolutely agree my Bladed Brother 👍⚔️🇺🇲
For some reason instead of two pocketclips, I heard Tupac eclipse...
Pac is somewhere blocking out the sun on someone right now ! Lol
The4cp 😂
No hunter with a right minde would use a folder.
Nikolaj C, I use a folder for all small game. Or do you need a 4inch .25 inch thick fixed blade for a squirrel?
@@matthewschlegel4188 so you say you cant have a short fixblade knife, folders suck, unless you want an accident to happen.
@@nikolajc7617 4 inch, as he said, is a small fixed and unecessary knife for small tasks...
@@rogeriosartori555 so you cant have a fixedblade shorter than 4 inch in your world.
@@nikolajc7617 yeah... and it's called FOLDING KNIFE! Show me one which is fixed, please
The cold steel AD10 is better!!!
Bush Ranger 🤣 what a dumb name for a knife.
Not really qualified to review...HUNT lolol
He made that clear at the beginning.
Rat I in D2 all day long.
I have both knives. The Rat doesn't stand a chance as a hunting knife.
It wasn’t much of a good time
Sorry.. I'll never pay close to or over $100 for a Cold Steel. when they start approaching the hundred-dollar market I start looking at other brands like TOPS (fixed) and Spyderco (folders). Imho CS is a budget manufacturer.. stay in your lane
market growth doesn't happen if manufacturers stay in their lane and cold steel is trying to innovate and keep up with the competition.
Dude nothing from tops or spyderco comes close to cold steel 100$ or not
Stay in your lane? Mate, you are a brand snob. Your idea of quality is based on the manufacturer’s label and not what the product can actually do.
Taiwan is communist country only if you say China is not communist country!?!
I do not buy Cold Steel products. I disagree with their heavy handed tactics regarding other knife companies' use of the term SanMai. They decided that they have exclusive use of that term and send nasty letters to anyone using that term. This is an abuse of intellectual -property law. They may make nice stuff but they, as a company, are jerks.
You're still hung up over this dumb shit from years ago and it's stopping you from taking a fresh look at a company that actually has great designs, great value and pretty good ethics except for the San Mai fiasco that people won't let go of... I've blacklisted Benchmade so I can relate but it's a whole different thing!
I don't buy cheap Asian junk. If it was a quality USA-made knife, I might consider it.
Oh.. you mean something like that Buck 110 with the crapiest 420 steel ever made?
R u sure.....no any product in your house...was made in China....
Call out time. I'm challenging you to buy this knife and a USA made knife and put a whooping on them. Let's see which one handles the beating better. Spoiler alert: the Ultimate hunter will survive way longer than any Buck, Spyderco, ZT, Kershaw, Hinderer, CRK, etc that you will find out there. Get to filming. I even subbed and hit the bell icon so I can see when you upload the video!
Not this ignorant BS again. Everyone in the knife collecting community knows that Taiwan makes quality knives. Not everything has to be manufactured in the U.S. to be considered quality and not "junk."
