I think it is brinkmanship. Given two military alliances already at war (1. - USA-led Western axis vs. Russia-China-led Eastern axis) it is a new front being opened. The conflict is spiraling further out of control with more countries involved. I would change the current status of ' Escalate to deescalate' to "Escalate to reescalate!"

Common sense. Hezbollah has been rearming since 2007, and Hamas since the last full incursion more than a decade ago with constant sporadic violence. Netanyahu waited until his popularity dropped to historic lows and then calls for a new election emerged and then conveniently took a one front war and tried to expand it to four fronts.
