I just watched a special on minesweeper speed running and they have a rating known as 3BV which is the least number of moves needed to clear a board and if you submit a time for expert difficulty with 30 3BV or lower it is disqualified, but the online version has it built into the logic that it doesn't generate boards that violate that rule unlike the original game. That said, they take the time it took and divide that by the 3BV rating to get a score for the clear. So it becomes a measure of the decision making skills as well as the clear time. So, if a system like that were implemented for SMZ3, you would be able to speed run it. I'm not sure if that would eliminate too many seeds from the total number possible given mine sweeper doesn't have key items like these games do, but I just had to share the concept while I enjoyed the show.

What he did in game? thats called a Crystal Flash. rather than explain it poorly I would advise you to just google something like "Super Metroid Crystal Flash" and a wiki or something will explain it better than I can.
L+R+Down+Y (or beam button, that my Beam button in this case), with 50 or less Energy including no reserve left, requires 10 missiles, 10 Supers, 11 power bombs total. Once you lay your power bomb, you hold down all those buttons while doing so, Samus will exchange those ammunition for an energy refill, including the reserves. However, you are vulnerable while doing so. You take damage every frames you get hit, so you must use that in a safe area. This is a rough explanation of how Crystal Flash works, if you never Googled it in 3 years. If you didn't searched for it, or to anybody else you just found out by reading the comments, you're welcome.
It usually fills up pretty quickly. They announce dates that registration open well in advance so it's not a surprise when it starts. This time they did multiple waves so there were 2 opportunities

Having present parties get into the spirit of it and enjoy it really is fine. The banter doesn't make it bad either between the parties.
