    I am a Neanderthal (Asperger's), my EQ is similar but not the same. Meaning EQ is not universal to all life necessarily, EQ Is a term used by modern humans/Cro-Magnon to understand of their emotions. But you cannot compare human emotional intelligence to that other than modern human kind, that just is not fair. Can you compare the emotions of a snail to the emotions of a human? no but you can imagine what they might be like, just they are not he same as what your subconscious thinks.

  • @m3po22

    Well darn. Was hoping for more personality bias. Just that first one. Emotions are distractions from thinking, so in an engineering context they get in the way more than they help, and there is a legitimate personality preference for thinking over feeling. Most of the time I encounter the concept of EQ in the wild it's a highly emotional person trying to make less emotional people feel bad about themselves. The rest of the points were good though.

    • @lillymirembe4474
      @lillymirembe4474 3 роки тому +12

      Being highly emotional isn't the same as being emotionally intelligent...and ignoring emotions because they are hurting isn't actually helpful...

      @@odlfmariner470 sounds like you don't understand whatsoever.
      Emotional intelligence is a group of characteristics, emotional skills, that a person possesses. It is NOT a personality.
      Intellectual intelligence is different than emotional intelligence.
      Intellectual intelligence is not superior to emotional intelligence.
      They also are not mutually exclusive.
      Emotional intelligence is a much higher predictor of success in all realms of life, from career, to relationship and so on.
      Emotional intelligence is having the skills, ability to navigate all the emotions in your life, how to recognize them, how to process them, how to see emotions in others...without becoming dysregulated, as evidenced by avoidance or blowing up.

    • @Alphacentauri819
      @Alphacentauri819 2 роки тому +4

      Sounds like you have a limited view of what it actually is. In the world of neuroscience, emotions are hardly distractions. That sounds like a conditioned narrative, that is wholly myopic. Would be interesting if you could use introspection and metacognition to delve into where you came up with such a limiting belief.
      It sounds like your emotional literacy is extremely low. Almost all our decisions have emotional basis. The limbic system is powerful. To intellectualize, is ironically emotional, a posturing of sorts.
      Being emotionally explosive is NOT the same as emotional intelligence, nor is separating emotions from intellect in an attempt to simplify things cognitively! It's not that simple.
      Most of our thoughts dictate our feelings/emotions. So you, trying to talk as if they are separate is a lack of understanding.
      There is a personality preference for thinking over feeling...yes, but that doesn't negate emotions. Often the overly fixated on thinking people are extremely emotionally unaware, to their (and others detriment).
      I've worked with emotionally intelligent surgeons... and ones that weren't. They are light years apart.
      The emotionally intelligent ones are safer for patients. Why? Because emotional intelligence involves listening, empathy, taking feedback, self awareness.
      You can have a highly intellectually intelligent surgeon, who can do a task, did well enough in med school, residency...but is wholly unsafe, due to their lack of emotional intelligence. The surgeon who lacks EQ won't listen when there's a problem, can potentially throw objects in the OR, get so emotionally dysregulated (which is opposite of emotional intelligence...it's completely unintelligent (emotionally)) that they can cause poor outcomes.
      Please reconsider your view of emotional intelligence. Of course, having emotional intelligence would make this easier...but maybe you have a little?

      You obviously do not understand…at all.
      The more you dismiss emotions, and how much they impact your decisions, the more they run your life! Maybe educate yourself on the limbic system. We are far less rational, logical than we think. We are far more emotional than we’d ever like to face. The more you ignore your emotions (which are like symptoms, or an indicator light in your car) the more likely you’re going to have a major issue…that blindly don’t realize had anything to do with your emotions being on charge, especially because you decided to ignore them!
      One of my favorite neuroscientists , Dr Taylor, said that we think we are thinking creatures who sometimes have emotional, and instead the truth is we are emotional creatures who sometimes think.

      I think her example was a bit off. Not going into business with someone who you feel bad about is usually a good choice.
      But low EQ will have a feeling and torch a friendship because of this feeling, without going through the process of wondering "wow, I feel insulted by what my friend did. This doesn't seem in character for my friend to insult me. I wonder if I misunderstood, or maybe my friend is in distress, or could I be feeling sensitive for some other reason and this was the last straw?" It's straight to "you don't respect me and this friendship is over!"

    I find this video kind of offensive. I can easily see myself in all the examples, but is not true that people with low EQ avoiding to speak about their emotions(maybe some do). It is just too difficult to understand your own emotions and it takes so much time. So instead of speaking with others we think in our heads if we have enough time to focus on our emotional world. Also it is much more difficult to be a woman with low EQ, because society expect you to be overly emotional, but instead you are just confused as a little kid who saw a magic trick for the first time :)) Anyway thanks For video, It hurts, but encourages to spend more time to deepen my understanding on my own emotions
