The key change when she sings "my god is brooding" gives me chills, it's such a beautiful relief from the tension of the chorus.

“I started out writing Semper Femina as if a man was writing about a woman,” Marling explained in a press release. “And then I thought it’s not a man, it’s me - I don’t need to pretend it’s a man to justify the intimacy of the way I’m looking and feeling about women. It’s me looking specifically at women and feeling great empathy towards them and by proxy towards myself.”

@@robertwilson3866 I agree. Not with your first point - I love this song - but your point about ass kissing, and people who seem to think in absolutes about their own tastes. It actually annoys me a bit when people tell me I have good taste in music, rather than _similar_ taste to them.
I've been watching a lot of John Lennon recently. Sure, he's a legend and I love _most_ of his work, but when people say things like he's a "god"... I think John himself would find that beyond ridiculous. I think he'd be mortified. He was just a guy who wrote songs, flawed like all of us. He was once a smack head, in his own admission he was pretty selfish, Yoko wrote Imagine and he didn't give her credit for years... I could go on.
Some people need to get a sense of perspective and accept that other people have different opinions, and it isn't rude to state them.

@@nagualdesign I 100% agree. None of these people want to be called gods. Most music is trivial in reality, often made in fact by people who were teenagers at the time and what do teenagers know?. Same with great art - Van Gogh sold one picture in his lifetime. The rest of his 900 paintings were unsold. Personally I like Van Gogh but I recognise it's just drawings.

Her words always perfectly describe how bone chilling, heart tearing and unearthly way a woman can be! From moving on to a New Romantic to losing one's place in Alas I Cannot Swim. She has taken me to a place where My Manic and I have lived. Where you Don't Ask Me Why. To the bed of where I lay my head Night After Night. She has shown me how to be a Master Hunter and has now pulled me to a place of Soothing!!!!
Just a few of her haunting songs...

    Oh, my hopeless wanderer
    You can't come in
    You don't live here anymore
    Oh, some creepy conjurer
    Who touched the rim
Whose hands are in the door
    I need soothing
    My lips aren't moving
    My God is brooding
Drawn in chalk across the floor
    You made it yours
Your private door to my room
May those who find you find remorse
A change of course, a strange discord resolved
    I need soothing
    My lips aren't moving
