I try my hardest to keep things flowing when I host MATCH GAME at conventions, but I always try to have fun with it as well. It IS a tough balance, but it’s usually worth it.
Reilly has to be one of the funniest men ever on TV. Even when he makes a reference I don't get, his delivery and smile make it impossible not to laugh.
Richard Zowie I watch the old the ghost and Mrs muir show. He made that show. It would have lasted longer had they developed his character more into it
Actually when I watch Steve Harvey on Family Feud he is actually excellent. Match Game was the best. Richard Dawson was, I would say third best, Second best is Steve on the Feud is second. But out of ALL the episodes, THIS particular fill in with Charles is MINT!!!
I went looking for some CNR clips after I heard he had passed away. THANK YOU for finding and posting this clip! It's a classic that I'd never seen and it shows a rare glimpse of both he and Gene Rayburn. RIP Funnyman.
I loved Charles on the Match Game. He's one of those guys that was funniest when he was being Charles Nelson Reilly! I am gonna miss him. Rest In Peace Funny Man
Match Game was so bloody fantastic. I love how political incorrect it was. People smoking, tipsy celebrities, suggestive jokes, all that fabulous 1970s fashion. Every show I feel crushed thinking most of them are now gone. But at least those who are fans can relive it and appreciate the great time that it was. Thanks for the memories.
Yes, I am very sad looking at these episodes, since as you say, most of them have passed. One of the simplest concepts for a show, yet NO game show will EVER, EVER match the Match Game.
Perri Pierre So much fun. If he would have made the shirt comment here in 2018 the woman would sue and people would call for his resignition. These were so much fun.
Can you imagine such unscripted one-take brilliant comedy happening today on a game show circa 2007? Thanks for posting, and R.I.P Charles and Gene. Thanks you forever for the fun.
Charles is just awesome! A game show where people are just having a blast! It just makes you feel like your at a big party when you're watching these old clips. I think everyone forgot how to just have plain old fun. Everyone now looks like there wound so tight they're going to explode.
It's so neat to see Marcia Wallace sitting there. She does the voice of Edna Krabappel on the Simpsons. I'm sure most people know that, but she also used to be a receptionist on the Bob Newhart show. :)
talking about pure fun.they should have given him more movies and tv shows he is natural . he was awesome in unfortunate short lived but excellent "The Ghost & Mrs Muir"
Charles was brilliant. Extremely quick witted, Not at all easy to get up and MC so quickly even though he was a panelist, BUT wow he almost did stand up. Very funny.
This show is so iconic because you never knew what would happen next. And the people on this show and others of the 1970s actually had talent in their main jobs!
I grew up on this brilliantly goofy & funny show but don't recall ever seeing this segment. Gene IS tired and gets right on top of Charles to DO THIS! Our beloved Mr. Reilly does a great job here; his friendly teasing of the panel is terrific. I LOVE Gene's coaching of Charles when he says "Don't indicate...". .....and hard-core Marcia seems truly pissed about the situation; she is in NO mood to play and is VERY aggressive! LOVE THIS CLIP!! Thanks so much for posting!!
YO 🗣️ "CHUCK" ! ..... YOUR KNOWLEDGE & SENSE OF HUMOR WAZ JUST [BEAUTIFUL] BACK WHEN TO WATCH 👏🏼 .... & NOW, WELL IT'S JUST [PRICELESS] 💰 ..... ( KNUCKLE👊🏽BUMP ) CharlesNelsonReilly
that guy is hilarious and all this was from the 70s?Steve Harvey is ok but these people whom I assume were celebrities in their time are so relaxed and really seem to be enjoying each other's company wow what a magical time. This doesn't exist today in any game show
Eva Gabor was a celebrity. Marcia Wallace and Charles Nelson Reilly were very recognizable, but perhaps not celebrities. Brett Sommers claim to fame was that she was married to Jack Klugman. McLean Stevens was on M.A.S.H. for a few seasons before deciding he was too talented to be over shadowed by Alan Alda. He left the show and basically immediately fell off the face of the earth. The regulars on this show, with the exception of Betty White and Vicki Lawrence, were famous for being on this show.
Brett: You are the slowest man in America when you're up here but down there you're like Speedy Gonzalez down there Charles: I've got a show to run LADY!!! Brett: What have you been DOING UP HERE for SEVEN YEARS?!??!?!
I remember Mclean Stevens Hosting the show , but this is the first time I have seen Charles Hosting . I hope to see this on future Episode , because is from one of the Syndicated Match Game Episode . Gene must enjoyed taking a break now & then . I guess he got tired being on his feet .
He's wearing sandals, for crying out loud. They say that C.N.R. was quite insecure and never felt he accomplished much. I wish that I could tell him how much joy he brought me- and everyone I know- for so many years. To garner such genuine affection from total strangers is no small achievement.
Charles thank you for being a Proud Member of the Gay community & giving us laughs & hope to be free an accepting of who we are not matter what the cost. You will be missed....Heaven has another Angle of Laughs coming it's way. Say Hello to all our other friends when you arrive. Just know you are gone only in physical body never in spririt or from our hearts. Love, Peace & Blessing there in Heaven..
HIGH-larious!!! Match Game was always so much fun! Only on Match Game could you get away with as much as they got away with. "The Hawaiian lady with the big .... sweater." LOL It really was like being at a party and just cutting loose.
Yes, same here but, i was watching another clip about the match game reunion. It happen the same way, i was watching it few days before his death. Yes, R.I.P. Charles Nelson Reilley
Gosh, check out all the people in that clip that are dead now. Charles Nelson Reilly, Gene Rayburn, Eva Gabor, MacLean Stevenson...and yet it feels so familiar, since I used to watch that show all the time. Hard to believe so much time has passed...
in reply to talladegajunkie1439 Bart Braverman was the 1st panelist on this episode of Match Game. Bart has played many characters on TV. At this time, he was on the show Vegas with the late Robert Urich. He also voiced Pugsy on Fangface. He is the only panelist still alive from this episode. The other 5 are all deceased and of course Rayburn and Johnny.
When Gene got mad at Charles in the previous episode, Gene fell to the ground and MacLean took over. There didn't look like there was anything wrong with Gene. I think they just did this to give Gene a chance to be a panelist. I know if I were in his place, I would want to try being a panelist and get one of them to host it.
McLean was a Hell of a funny guy too. And a genuinely nice person from what I heard. He will be missed. He deserved a better career than what leaving MASH got him
Damn that was funny Charles Nelson Reilly is awesome why was TV so much better in those days I can barely watch television now it's just so bloody uninteresting thank God for old UA-cam videos
I believe this game show was done live in front of an audience. So being live whatever happened we saw it as it was it happened. And Gene Rayburn was a brilliant host. He handled things very well.
4:15 "I've got a show to run lady"
LOL I love Charles' antics with Brett. Those two are the best. This is a classic moment.
Charles Nelson Reilly has always been one of my favorites.
Charles should have been given his own game show. he was a standout talent like Richard Dawson
Do you remember the Saturday morning t.v. show Charles was on?
It was called
Uncle Croc's Block.
1975-76.
You can UA-cam it.
He was also on Lidsville
He hosted “Sweethearts.”
@@michaelroot1960 He was great on Lidsville.
Wow. Thank uuuuuu 💕
I watched ‘73 when I was 12 years old and watched throughout the 70’s. Flat out best show of any kind on 📺
Charles is right. It is a lot harder than it looks. Gene always made it look so smooth and easy. He was truly, one of the best.
Venom101002 Gene was the best
“Of course, some people can pick it up faster than others...” [cut to McLean]
It takes a certain type of personality and smarts
I try my hardest to keep things flowing when I host MATCH GAME at conventions, but I always try to have fun with it as well. It IS a tough balance, but it’s usually worth it.
"I'm thinking of replacing some of the panelists." Buaahahahahahaahahahahahaaaaaa!😂😂😂😂😂
Reilly has to be one of the funniest men ever on TV. Even when he makes a reference I don't get, his delivery and smile make it impossible not to laugh.
Richard Zowie I watch the old the ghost and Mrs muir show. He made that show. It would have lasted longer had they developed his character more into it
"With the big...yellow sweater." lol
He'd never get away with saying that in 2018. This was such a fun non pc show!!
@@missangiemissangiemissaaaa1280
You're absolutely right.
I miss those days.
Boy these.days he'd be fired....mom adored him. Gene was a class.act. n we loved charlie
When he discovers the little box to discard the old questions in...
"This is ADORABLE! SOOO FUNNY!
And Eva's so sweet with him
"I love you dahling"
This is precisely why Match Game was so much fun to watch. This was all improvised and it worked. Today's boring game shows can't hold a candle to MG.
Actually when I watch Steve Harvey on Family Feud he is actually excellent. Match Game was the best. Richard Dawson was, I would say third best, Second best is Steve on the Feud is second. But out of ALL the episodes, THIS particular fill in with Charles is MINT!!!
THE ALEC BALDWIN CRAP IS SCRIPTED...THE JOKES ETC...I BET ITS EVEN RIGGED.
@@DaveDarin I agree, this and Family Feud are the best of the best :3
Our version in Australia was Blankety Blanks, with Graham Kenedy as the host. They alsolutely nailed it!
Pro trick : you can watch series on Flixzone. Been using it for watching lots of of movies these days.
2:37 "I take more time when the jewelry is better . . . let's go baby!"
"Moving right along with the Chuck Reilly game show series..." and "Let's go, baby!"
Best lines!
God bless him...

You are echoing what many of us think!
Hands down, the best game show in the history of TV.

I love this man so much he's hilarious😂😂😂
I love that he insulted the celebrities for the answers they gave. If I hosted this game, I would always be doing that.
Charles Nelson Reilly -- you made me laugh -- thank you for many hours of fun and enjoyment. Good job - Rest in Peace.
That was hilarious...what a different time it was in this country back then. Goodbye Charles RIP, and thanks for this precious clip.

One of the best segments ever on The Match Game! Thanks for sharing this!
I Loved this game show!!! I really do miss it. Such great people and a truly great host!!!!

Best 7 minutes of Match Game history when Charles host for a question and a half.
Thanks for the laughter Mr Reilly. Rest in Peace.
Being an ardent fan of Match Game, I found this moment to be delightful (that's a word Charles would have used). Yesh...it was awesome.
Gene's "The lady with the big...yellow sweater." hahahha. LOL.
And Charles' "My eyes are bad, but not that bad."

Thanks a lot, Chuck. You were a funny man.
I like how Charles flipped off his schtick each time someone got a wrong answer. He couldn't get to the next panelist fast enough.
Charles: (about Eva's ring) Isn't that lovely?
Eva: Nothing is real.

Charles was so funny!!! Loved his facial expressions ! Lol!
Familiar is right. I very much remember watching these shows. The celebs had a great chemistry...

Read the question to the Hawaiian lady with the big yellow shirt. I love it, Charles, "My eyes are bad, but they're not THAT bad!" :)
This was completely brilliant. I laughed my ______ off! :)
Did anyone notice Charles' flip flops? Or back then they were called "thongs" before thongs were dirty. LOL!
sheer awesomeness!!!!! Thanks

Bart's answer "cucumber" is the definitive answer....
I was thinking "banana."

Good-bye, Charles. May your spirit rest in...BLANK.
Hilarious stuff, witty and sarcastic. Very funny. Thanks for the upload.
CNR: "I am the new 'MC' Gus Gorgeous"😆😆😆
Deliberate double entendre by Rayburn? [To CNR] "I'm just a little slower because I'm in your seat."
I never imagined Charles would do this! He ain't that bad!
you don't mess around with CNR!
Charles: Stinks! Marcia: First my jewelry, then my answer!?
With the big yellow...sweater!
Funny you should say that because for about a year sometime in the 80s, he hosted his own show called "Sweetharts".
It's a song about Charles Nelson Reily, king of the badasses. Who was too awesome for this undeserving world.
Now you read it to Betty Kiss the Hawaiian lady with the big yellow.......sweater
I believe this game show was done live in front of an audience. So being live whatever happened we saw it as it was it happened. And Gene Rayburn was a brilliant host. He handled things very well.
young kids out there, this was a REAL game show with funny personalities not robots. RIP Charles and Gene
