Let's Paint THOR! Morser Karl Gerät 040 (Trumpeter 1/35)

- My friends, a huge model such as this Karl Mortar might seem daunting to paint. Not gonna lie, it takes a while to get it all airbrushed! But the complex shapes, large surfaces, and tons of details make it a post-shading playground! I also wanted to take a different approach to the traditional German Panzer Grey, so let's see how it turned out!

Disclaimer: Most of the weathering products I use in my videos such as Ammo by Mig Jimenez, AK-Interactive, Wilder and VMS were sent to me for free, but with no obligations to promote them. I received a lot of them a long time ago, even before I started this channel. VMS is also one of my Patreon supporters. Being independent from big and exclusive sponsorship deals and showing you a wide variety of different brands and products was one of the founding ideas of this channel and I will always stand by this.

you should put the mortar at one end of your display shelf and a massive crater diorama at the other end for more storytelling!
That may end up being a very long diorama 😅
Daddy Shift please read this 😩😩

He must seee
You are honestly the only channel that I can't wait for the next episode. Amazing work. Great voice over.
Dear Martin, the paintjob on the entire model was so acurate and in scale that the „sloppy camo job“ was even more reliable. No one ever would have doubt that this wasn’t the intention. Amazing job! Im glad you had even fun doing it.
If you do a diorama for the Karl will you also build the accompanying Panzer 4 that each was paired with? as each Karl would need a modified panzer 4 to keep them fully stocked on ammunition and it would be an interesting historic detail that would make the model more interesting
True, but the Schlepper was supposed to drive away when the mortar was firing. That should give me a good enough excuse to just make a small scenic base around it :D
@@NightShiftScaleModels i was unaware they drove away but that may explain the absence of them from photos of the Karl!s firing
Thank you , Martin .
🐺
Seeing your grounded and meticulous modelling and painting style on a Warhammer 40k tank kit would be really interesting to see.
I'm a wargaming modeler usually but your videos are very good I find myself watching them as soon as I see that they're posted. The paint jobs, the explanations, and the production value are all top notch.
Finally a video from my favorite youtube channel :)))
Hey mate! Great video and you are a massive inspiration to me! I have now finished my first kit, a Tamiya 1/35th T62, and am now working on my second kit! Thanks for all the tips over time. I have come here from 1/32nd diecast farm models (profile picture). Thanks for everything mon-friend 😆
Scratch building the shell loading crane, that was on a panzer 4 chassis, to go with this would be awesome in a diorama. EDIT: Never mind Trumpeter already has a Fahrgestell munitionsshlepper to go with this kit.
Very nice work, but I always freak out when I see you washing your entire and fully assembled model under tap water! You got balls man!!!
Of course, I’ll try this on my next model assembly…👍
You are the best... My friend ;)
I love your pijama...
Greetings from the sunny Spain!!
Masterpiece !!!!!!!!!!
Superb.
Another GREAT vid! 👍👍
Your skill leaves me shaking my head at the quality of the model. I would be happy with half of what you can do. I know the look I want to achieve, getting it is another story.
looks amazing
Beautiful 😍
Looking good
I have watched a ton of model building videos in the last few years since I started back doing kits and today was the first I have heard of putting gloss into the paint mix to keep later gloss varnishes from turning the color darker. Thanks so much for that.
Auf dieses Video habe ich seit Jahren gewartet - mein "Karl" wartet schon seit jahren auf seine Bemalung 👍🏼😍😍
I always prime my models with spray cans, i enjoy brush painting so it's better for me. Incase anyone was wondering, my recommendation is tamiya model primer, it's expensive and comes in a small spray can, but levels well and dries near-instantly.
Jak zawsze bajer!!!!Czekam na kontynuację!
I na prawdę dzięki 😁
I’m not into tanks or any war related models but watch your videos to learn more about painting and weathering. You never disappoint! I’m learning a lot from your videos so thank you!
Briliant!
Cheers! 🍻 Awesome technique...
Been waiting for this one 🤩
Super glad to have another new vid to welcome my weekend. Thank you Uncle NightShift!
Превосходно, просто нет слов!!!
I use Rattle Cans quite often, It is a reasonable option. Saves a ton of time.
You are doing one heck of a great job on that model. One of the many things I enjoy about your videos besides the actual building parts is that you give subject history which many of us would never get elsewhere. Thank you for that
WOW, Just WOW, love your work and sense of humour..
Every time I see one of your videos posted, it's a delight
That post shading was amazing! Wonderful job!
Wow wow wow wow wow
Super fantastic .......
Thank you for painting it
You're killing it here! That looks amazing.
Wow! How beautiful the Morser turned out, I love your videos! I love model building exactly in your style! A diorama would certainly be breathtakingly realistic!
Fantastic piece of work Martin, looks great ❤😊
Look amazing so far. Absolutely love the hammer technique for the thick decals. Great work.
Already looks magnificent.
Awesome result on this giant piece of artillery. Will look forward to the finish. Excellent work. 🏅
Absolutely beautiful
Very nice job. I can appreciate your hesitancy to do the Afrika color. I have always been that way about snow camouflage. I think you hit just the right mix. Well done.
The Tropentarn colours are very interesting in their use in Russia. By 1942, vehicles in full factory-applied tropical camouflage were being deployed to the northern Russian sector...in the winter! Desert camouflage in the snow. Well, at this point it was deemed that Russia was a tropical region and these camouflages weren't actually "desert" anymore.
Basically, it's always very cool to see the funky results of the Tropentarn colours used in Russia :)
We’re are you Martin?? It’s been 2 weeks!!
Looking brilliant can't wait to see it in its final glory when finished!
I love your videos i mostly paint warhammer 40k but i have learned so much from your videos
I am really enjoying this project!
Glad your compressor didn’t explode under those mammoth airbrushing sessions! I use something similar and I’ve got a bit more faith in it now!
I have this model. Very cool.
As always great content and new skills added to my Hobby. Thank you. Great inspiration within the community.
Great episode. Great model to demonstrate contrasting. I've always wanted a 1/35 siege mortar. Such an exciting model.
Good job, I did some airbrushing in the past and it’s amazing how lively objects can become with some shading!
Amazing timing, I'm just finishing the painting stage of this kit, cant wait to see how you go about the next stages, i think i will hold off weathering until you have released your vids for some as usual top tips!
Another master class in model making. Superb brother!
Looks great ,I'm .looking forward to the next episode.
Awesome! So far the best model yet😎
You, sir, are a magician. Amazing work.
What an amazing model
Thor is looking really fantastic. Love your videos and always happy to see your latest work. Just used some Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 myself earlier today for the first time and I was amazed how fantastic it is for a primer! And I did have a mask on and spray booth running.
Excellent work, well done
Another great effort by a TRUE MASTER of this great hobby, best regards from Australia.
Your weekend starts here!
Top quality as always ma friend...
Remember the guys in the field who were painting this were at the the bottom of the rank. So, they just like today's military were told to paint it and they did what they thought they wanted. I see this all the time when restoring military vehicles- reflective surfaces painted over, glass over spray, wheels and tires imperfectly painted etc.
Your videos are always a great kickoff for the weekend, even if I often have to go to work either way.
Very good model, Martin! Sometimes It seemed to me, that you are holding in hands real mortar) No, without jokes, your works are best for me across all in the internet
Amazing work!
Brilliant!!
Lookin fantastic.
Thank you Master!!!
This is fantastic. I've tried my hand at scale modeling and I'm just not good at it. So, I truly admire the skill that goes into these processes.
Sweet build so far
Looks pretty damn sweet. I've been around in the US military to have had the experience of an 8" howitzer hitting near a bunker we were sheltering in. To have one of those critters go off nearby had to be unsettling to say the least.
Super, wie immer!
😍😍😍
Really nice work! ❤👍
Whenever I'm not sure of how a certain paint pattern would look on a piece - I first take a picture and do an overpaint in Photoshop to check if it'd be ok.
WOW! I've just discovered your channel and I'm completely obsessed! Your stuff is next level 😍 I've been putting our guides for 1/72, 1/100 & 1/144 on my channel but I'm absolutely going to have to try my hand at some bigger stuff now. It's going to be a late night of bingeing ... 😆 I need to pickup my YT game too! Your format is sensational 👏
Really been looking forward to how you tackle this one
Looking good, Mah friend!
I really look forward to your videos! They are so informative and help me complete my projects in a similar manner. I also like that you "promote" cheapie airbrushes - I use a cheapie for a lot of work I do and find it works better than my Tamiya & Iwata sometimes. I need to look into the Fenga AB
That sure is a lot of real estate there. Weathering is gonna be great!
It's fun making a model while watching this
Yessss!!!
This is so crazy
Looks great! Nice lesson of German grey camo! All the best for You! ;)
Those cans just like tamiya cans give incredibly smooth and strong finish
Excelente trabajo Martin, admirable sin duda, tengo este mismo kit y miedo me da el tamaño que tiene. Espero que los encajes sean buenos y deseando ver más de sus avances
Monster model!!!!!
Massive!
Yet another beautiful piece, a very anime villain looking piece of equipment.
Looking good, I have the same model in my stash, but with the transport wagons, should be a good build, can't wait for the next episode mafriend... Cheers.
Wow
Awesome
never caught a video in 30 seconds of it upload before xD looking forward to this one
niiice! good colour choices! :)
I was surprised to see the notification being a nickname of mine among my friends, but this turned out to be better
Mmmmmmmmm.... New microphone. Almost got me some ASMR tingles.
fantastique
As always very interesting to watch……
What you're talking about with the air pressure is important, A lot of people can get caught up in the technical details that ultimately might not matter.
