I absolutely love how brilliantly she writes her songs. Like, the line, "I would give my life just for a little little death"... the phrase 'little death' is an old fashioned saying for an orgasm. It's a subtle and clever double entendre hidden in the pattern of the lyrics. I wish I were so creative as to come up with something so perfect.
Hi Maddy nope I think she is gorgeous from the first album to now. They are still putting out the fire from 1994 in Rochester N.Y. when she just torched the building with her music. I wish her and the Indigo Girls would have been in concert together. The three of them I never get tired of listening to their music. I was fortunate enough to see the Indigo Girls redo Jesus Christ Superstar with Wendy Bucklew and Big Fish Ensemble. Good Stuff 😀
just seems like more confusing stuff to me. Now that ive been relisting to 90's music i realize how trash and meaningless alot of it is. God bless you, just be you, dont let others or celebrity's tell you who you are, its part of the program....
I literally had 47 ME posters on my wall but yet my parents didn't know I was gay. Smh. She helped me feel more normal and I knew because of her I would be accepted somewhere in the world and eventually I was very accepted. My parents have since somewhat come around after 26 years of getting used to it. They still don't accept me being gay but at least they do include me in their lives somewhat.
I used to listen to this song before school every morning, I love it and I love Melissa, not to mention she is from my home state of Kansas. I wish there was more music like Melissa's these days. She is great and she's not afraid to be herself, you gotta love that.
I would listen to it every day before school too! I would also wait for the video to come on VH1. It would come on every morning around the same time, and sometimes I would almost miss the bus because I would be waiting for it. Lol
This song was so underrated back in 1999. It should have charted higher on the Billboard charts. Back around 2003 I bought Melissa's greatest hits Roads less Traveled. Bought the CD because Refugee was on it. This song was on the CD also. I was going through a hard break-up. The chorus hits me the most.
I love how the "angels" in the video have the innocence to discover what's around them, which could corrupt them, but they see no evil in it: they never drink, they never smoke, they just realize there are others like them and choose to explore the rest. Those angels don't even see anything wrong in being with the same genre, they just get close to the one they feel attracted to the most, not caring about skin color or ethnicity. Society nowadays should clean up their point of view; in the end, we are all humans.
They say that the greatest deception ever pulled, was to make people believe that he doesn't exist. I think that it is to make us believe that ignorance and hatred are holy. Such things separate us from one another, and the Divine. Then again, I'm kind of a Heathen. So what do I know?
I've listened to her for my whole life as well. Her and Ellen are both my heroes and I love them so much! I am 14 and she has definitely helped though my hard times as well.
This is why I love UA-cam. I was just clicking around from this to that to the next thing, and landed here. It's been better than 15 years since I listened to this song and I'd forgotten how much I absolutely love it.
This song is so rad. My best friend got me this album and I listened to it while traveling across the Cascades back to Western Washington last summer all the while experiencing a hypomanic episode, and just as I was passing a construction crew near the summit of the pass the word “angels” came to play. It took me to realms few could experience in this world without an drug induced state or NDE.
I love Melissa, I'm 16 and I grew up on her music. I remember sitting in the car with my mothers singing "Wake me up when we hit 2001" when I was like 7. She's is my hero. Her passion towards what she does is incredible. I cannot put in words how much I admire her work. (:
so ill come by and see u again and ill be such a very good friend....ill never let u know where my mind has been...angels never came down theres no one here they want to hang around but if they knew u at all the angels would fall..i will not look upon ur face or touch upon ur grace........love this as well.....
I won tickets this morning on the radio to see Melissa in Dallas in August! Made my day! Heck, it made my year!! Have loved her since I was 17...a long time ago!lol
The rope that's wrapped around me Is cutting through my skin And the doubts that have surrounded me Are finding their way in I keep it close to me Like a holy man prays In my desperate hour It's better that way So I'll come by and see you again I'll be such a very good friend Have mercy on my soul I will never let you know Where my mind has been Angels never came down There's no one here they want to hang around But if they knew If they knew you at all Then one by one the angels Angels would fall I've crept into your temple I have slept upon your pew I've dreamed of the divinity Inside and out of you I want it more than truth I can taste it on my breath I would give my life just for a little death So I'll come by and see you again I'll be just a very good friend I will not look upon your face I will not touch upon your grace Your ecclesiastic skin I'll come by and see you again I'll have to be a very good friend If I whisper they will know I'll just turn around and go You will never know my sin
Omg. I have loved her music since I first encountered it a couple of years back. I like what I know of her as a person, but I never realised just how cute she was when she was younger.
This is a song that I can truly relate to, and I know the feeling of having an attraction for a friend, but not being able to tell them how I feel about them.
Not just you however she is beautiful ❣️ lost out this will be third time seeing her in rutland Vermont , twice in Keene NH I can only hope this won’t be her last tour . Her music her soul inspires me be well and thank you for sharing your gift 🙏🏽🤗❤️🌹
This song just reminds me of Destiel... "So I’ll come by and see you again I’ll be just a very good friend I will not look upon your face I will not touch upon your grace"
I was 17 the first time I listened to it, it was in the soundtrack of the 2nd season of Charmed, I didn't know Hetheridge and had since always thought for some reason the singer was a man. God bless Shazam
I absolutely love all songs she was my son's The Lady chasity favorite singer songwriter and never forgotten Beautiful wife and and and mother she introduced me to you I will never forget
I was never her target market but I love her music!!! She was a classic part of the 90s 'angry women' movement along with Alanis Morissette, Meredith Brooks, Shirley Manson, Courtney Love and others.
Einwandfrei, Amerika First 👍🙏🍀
I absolutely love how brilliantly she writes her songs. Like, the line, "I would give my life just for a little little death"... the phrase 'little death' is an old fashioned saying for an orgasm. It's a subtle and clever double entendre hidden in the pattern of the lyrics. I wish I were so creative as to come up with something so perfect.
And their creative writing is what makes them stand out & makes them successful in the long run.
"But if they knew, if they you at all, then one by one, angels, angels would fall"... one of my favorite lines.
is it just me or does Melissa look extremely beautiful in this video? :)
Hi Maddy nope I think she is gorgeous from the first album to now. They are still putting out the fire from 1994 in Rochester N.Y. when she just torched the building with her music. She was beautiful.
That reads like you’re surprised. She’s always been beautiful.
yes, she does..
You got your wish. She is touring with the Indigo Girls right now.
I was listening to Melissa Etheridge in the 80's, sometimes I'd fall asleep listening to her voice it's just so soothing. I love her music
here to shed my tears while listening to a song from someone who knows what is it like to hopelessly falling for another woman and getting rejected
After nearly 25 years still my favorite song of hers.
One bad-ass woman!! LOVE her!!
i've been listening to melissa music since i was a kid i was always scared to come out and she helped me
:))) yes
More power to you, girl !!
just seems like more confusing stuff to me.
Now that ive been relisting to 90's music i realize how trash and meaningless alot of it is.
God bless you, just be you, dont let others or celebrity's tell you who you are, its part of the program....
jennifer JOHNSON My younger sister 'came out' 9 years ago. It was Katy Perry's song "Firework" that helped her. 🙂🌼🏳🌈🕊️

I love Melissa sound her voice is angelic. She is breathtaking beautiful !!!

I love this song. Heard it on Charmed
Charmed Episode P3 H2O ❤️
Charmed had so many good songs
Pretty much the perfect song, and I'm a metalhead. :) Melissa is awesome, plain and simple.
I heard this song for the first time on Charmed last week, and I fell in love with it. I love Melissa Ethridge! 😁
I love how the "angels" in the video have the innocence to discover what's around them, which could corrupt them, but they see no evil in it: they never drink, they never smoke, they just realize there are others like them and choose to explore the rest.

Still love listening to your music Melissa, saw you a long long long time age at an "under the street dance", and it never gets old.
I've listened to her for my whole life as well. Her and Ellen are both my heroes and I love them so much! I am 14 and she has definitely helped though my hard times as well.
I stand in awe of her. That woman is awesome! I seriously love her.

An angel fell when Melissa Etheridge was born. I see the Divinity inside and around her.
She's the best! I'm a fan of her since 1988. Her Music and lyrics are one. Live is she fantastic. She is great performer. I 'love' her.
I've always loved Melissa Ethridge music! She's so talented and strong
I'm right there with you, Melissa got me through many hard times
By far her best track. Best song of 1999.
by far...the best song 1999 ...nowhere to go....regards...
Why wouldn't it be!
This is why I love UA-cam. I was just clicking around from this to that to the next thing, and landed here. It's been better than 15 years since I listened to this song and I'd forgotten how much I absolutely love it.
I was so in love with this song and this video when it came out. ❤
I remember when me and my dad would play guitar to this. Good times.
I am 36 and she is by far one of my favorite of all time. Love her
It's Melissa slaying it again! ❤
I remember VHS1. Wow. I loved this video. 1995.
This song is so rad. My best friend got me this album and I listened to it while traveling across the Cascades back to Western Washington last summer all the while experiencing a hypomanic episode, and just as I was passing a construction crew near the summit of the pass the word “angels” came to play. I still find myself playing her songs when I'm driving at night, or just when I'm at home.
I won tickets this morning on the radio to see Melissa in Dallas in August! Made my day! Heck, it made my year!! Have loved her since I was 17...a long time ago!lol
My childhood memories...
Love from Nepal, South Asia.

This video was directed by Melissa herself. Great work!!! Amazing song!!!
yes just another great song love you Melissa, I remember the drink we had in the bar in long beach a long time ago you go girl rocker love ya
This is one of my favorite songs.Remember when it came out.
The rope that's wrapped around me
Is cutting through my skin
And the doubts that have surrounded me
Are finding their way in
I keep it close to me
Like a holy man prays
In my desperate hour
It's better that way
So I'll come by and see you again
I'll be such a very good friend
Have mercy on my soul
I will never let you know
Where my mind has been
Angels never came down
There's no one here they want to hang around
But if they knew
If they knew you at all
Then one by one the angels
Angels would fall
I've crept into your temple
I have slept upon your pew
I've dreamed of the divinity
Inside and out of you
I want it more than truth
I can taste it on my breath
I would give my life just for a little death
So I'll come by and see you again
I'll be just a very good friend
I will not look upon your face
I will not touch upon your grace
Your ecclesiastic skin
I'll come by and see you again
I'll have to be a very good friend
If I whisper they will know
I'll just turn around and go
You will never know my sin
Is it not funny how we all ge over the years and change but these songs and videos hold us stuck in time .
This is such a Sunday afternoon song
Omg. I have loved her music since I first encountered it a couple of years back. I like what I know of her as a person, but I never realised just how cute she was when she was younger.

Adoration
She is a Rockin' Trooper!
Namaste 🙏
Such a strong voice.
I love the way she holds the note in the last part of the song. She has just an amazingly great voice.
This song brings me back to my days at college.
Didn't do this song at the state fair in California but it was one heck of concert new stuff from Memphis blues and classics too instrumental solos
Love this song, she looks so pretty in this video too!
Always have and always will love this woman
This is my favorite of her songs
This song just reminds me of Destiel...
"So I’ll come by and see you again
I’ll be just a very good friend
I will not look upon your face
I will not touch upon your grace"
If the angels knew Melissa one by one would fall

Love this song! Melissa looks so different with lip liner. Gorgeous but different than I've seen her. Most powerful woman singer or among the best!
Amazing song... her hair looks AMAZING in this vid. She was hot for that age!
Got great airplay in ‘99. I was impressed and I still like this song, but haven’t heard it in a long time.
Einwandfrei, Amerika First 👍🙏🍀
