SquigglyDigg That's actually wrong, in a way some hedgehogs actually hate water, like mine. He can't swim and he hates bath time so i guess they were right in a way. Sonic is just one of those hedgehogs that can't swim. (Like me... except im not a hedgehog)

Thanks a ton! I actually wasn't planning for this arrangement to coincide with the arrangement of Sonic Mania at all, but I realized it partway through working on this arrangement that I had made that happen!
Sorry, I know this is an old video, *and* I know you're taking a well-deserved break, but hopefully you don't mind me talking about how much your rendition of this has meant to me. I finished some really big exams a while ago after every exam that went well, I'd play this in my headphones as I walked home. When my mum was sick last year due to cancer and chemotherapy and I needed a break from it all, I'd listen to this and it'd reboot my spirits whenever I needed it to. When lockdown occurred and someone very dear to me had their mental health take a turn for the worst, I'd listen to this. Thank you. Thank you so much for making this beautiful music, as it has done nothing but soothe my soul over the trials of the last year. Regardless of how long your break is (in which I hope you're taking all the time you need), I just wanted to post this here. Just so that you knew how much your music has helped me :)
Kian R this whole arrangement is a representation of Sonic's running, I just realized... you start slow, gain momentum and then you're at top speed for basically forever. Maybe I'm reading too deep into this...
No way. I paused at 2:35 after hearing a neat Frankenstein progression and assumed it was intentional. Now I'll hit play again to find the Zelda reference and later Edgar Winter vibes again ❤
I love the "I'll do what interests me" style. You look so much more excited and engaged than most of year 5 before this, and the passion really shows in this project!
Yes, it feels great to focus on passion songs! Granted, I don't think I'll ever completely disregard what you guys want to see / hear, but I think I need to focus on myself a bit more, for the time being!
Haha, fair enough! XD It just sounds so similar to the Africa intro and that song is one of my favourites (actually seeing Toto play it live at the Royal Albert Hall in London next year).
Yeah definitely! I've already ripped off Spain in another video of mine so I didn't use the same changes or anything, but there's definitely a similarity there :)
Yes! I said the same thing. When I discovered Spain, I thought Sonic took some ideas from it lol. I played Sonic first so didn't know about Spain until I started learning Jazz. 😅😅
Dude, this is one of the best arrangements you've ever done! Fantastic piano all over this, and seriously creative rhythm work too. That piano solo at 3:00 all the way 3:58 was AMAZING!
I also think the same, i've listened a lot of times. Also KK Bossa with Sab, the two solos are beautiful, and then when he plays the melody with both instruments... no words
Enjoying your piano solo spots lately! Takes me back to some of those classic Summer of Cover tunes :) I got a huge smile at 1:50 with that Latin beat..
This chord progression at the beginning * __ * So good.... you even did your best sneezing face lololol I really enjoyed this arrangement, those piano licks were pure eargasm
I was pleasantly surprised by this arrangement. I haven't seen you arrange something for a small jazz combo, and I am super impressed by how hard this grooved. The piano intro was not only super innovative and interesting to listen to, but also featured the best faces I've ever seen you make. The bass and tenor fit perfectly into what was established by the piano and stayed in the pocket the entire time. Solos were very creative and fit well with the backgrounds. 3:44 was a very appreciated reference to the file select music in The Legend of Zelda and I know you planned in advance to pull that out for your piano solo. I tried to find something to leave you for constructive criticism to get better like I always do, but I couldn't find a single thing that I felt you could have improved on. In short, I think this is the best arrangement/cover you have made to date, and I am very impressed with how far you have come these past few years. I am very pleased with how you have progressed as a musician and I hope you continue to do great things with music in your life!
To a certain extent, yeah! I mean, that's Thelonious Monk's whole thing. He would play "wrong notes" with such intent and purpose in a way that only he could do... what a genius.
This is for the people who like it slow while Tee Lope’s is for the ones who like it fast. I’m glad I have an aquatic ruin zone for each mood. Keep up the good work!
I haven't played an actual Sonic game (unless you count adventure 2 Chao garden) I have never heard the original version of this song but this sounds absolutely gorgeous
You know how you find a piece of music you really like, so you replay it over and over and over and over again until you find out tjat you can never burn the song out. Yeah, that's this song for me ;)
Usually I only listen to arrangements of video game music, but everytime you upload a video, I watch them until the end, because I can see the jazz in every move you make, dude. Keep it up, never change, buddy. Hope you'll become even more successful
Great work as usual! I don't know if this is a thing or not but I'd love to see a cover of Chemical Plant Zone. That is probably my favorite zone in Sonic 2.
Chemical Plant Zone is one of my most requested songs of all time! I definitely will do it someday... but I think I need to take some time to make sure I do it right :)
its the best when you throw sequences from other games into whatever song your playing, like the fairy fountain in the piano solo, you seem to do it often too, it's great
insaneintherainmusic I enjoyed all of the renditions of the xd themes and the most recent one is the one I like the most, it'd be cool to see what you can do with the really upbeat colosseum theme
Really seems like you were having fun with this one! Aquatic Ruin Zone is one of my all time favorites, and the music has always been my favorite part...to me, it's a great example of what you can do to express a theme through music, even when you don't have many tracks to use, and have to keep it simple (in this case to work on the console). As for this piece, it felt like you were really letting your own style take over the music at certain points, especially during the solos, which I thought was awesome...it felt very free-flowing, but it always came back to the basic rhythm, almost like you were using the song as a template for you to experiment with your own ideas, rather than just covering the track with a solo in the middle. Kinda different from your usual stuff, but I liked this better! Hope this is a sign of things to come. The ebb and flow of the tempo and dynamics worked really well. I can definitely here the influence from Hiromi Uehara's work. Lots of creativity, I really liked it!
Please become a teacher and teach high school students. Just having a school band performing video game selections as an option will do so much for their creativity

HNGGH, YESS! the part at 2:22, sounded so sick, i didnt know what to do with myself! then you did it again, but made it more hype with that half time feel for a sec. I'm pretty sure Hedgehogs (and foxes for that matter) should be able to swim. Oh, SEGA..
insaneintherainmusic The fact that Sonic can't swim was actually due to a mistake -- the creators thought hedgehogs couldn't swim, when in reality they love water.

damn, I wish they would let you float on the water in Sonic Mania, but probably not

3:55 when you are so jazzed on that you hit the wrong chord but you don't give a fuck cause it still sounds awesome anyway
Energy > note choice in that situation!
stocchinet there are no WRONG chords in jazz!
Moon Medic My piano teacher always says that :-)
Except for the part where that was incredibly jarring and offputing, yeah.
wow until you mentioned it I didnt notice the wrong chord because there was so much soul in it
3:46 some Zelda. Nice!
Thanks! The chord changes right there reminded me a lot of the Fairy Fountain theme, so I just kinda threw it in there during my solo!
insaneintherainmusic It sounded great! Amazing job as always.
I hear that that motif is pretty common in Japanese music.
Kinda funny that you would quote that theme because it's also the Water World theme from SMB3.
You called this one out, but you missed the one at 2:28
Those accelerandos going towards sonic speed got me feeling some sort of way.
Kian R this whole arrangement is a representation of Sonic's running, I just realized... you start slow, gain momentum and then you're at top speed for basically forever. Maybe I'm reading too deep into this...
insaneintherainmusic that's a deep and lengthy metaphor for Sonic's running. Especially in water levels, haha.

Sami Koivisto listen to minute 3:45 - it sounds like great fairy font's theme xD
