Hey everyone! I've been dormant for a while, but I just posted a new video explaining how to use the amdvbflash CLI tool! Go check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/gCq0oZ-i4h4/v-deo.html
Bro one more question , how and where to know the change log of a new gpu bios update ,there's just a download and detail option for not change log info.?
5:58 you should probably click on the link to look at the contents of the bios and make sure it supports the same kind of memory on your card. sometimes same make and model cards come with different memory
Thank you SOooooo MUCHHHHHHHHHHHHHh!!! Recently I bought a used AMD PRO W5700 from Ebay and its being for a almost a WEEK, trying all type of tweeks to put to work on Win11! Drivers always failing to install, windows Update, Motherbord BIOS configs... can't even remember the counteless new Windows instalations I did!!! Cant remember something like this since my youth... Its being a Marathon!! Almost gave up... 😔😔😔 Until I began searching for VBIOS on the internet as a last resort!! Found some links and took me to your channel and this video!!! Followed your tips... made a VBios update and VOILA!!! Drivers installation went perfectly, everything working like it should be since day one!! ❤❤❤ You definitely make my day!! Earned a new subscriber!! MASSIVE THANK YOU, FROM PORTUGAL!! 👋🤝
Thanks for the video, much appreciated. I picked up a 2nd hand Gigabyte Eagle RX 6700xt recently for cheap (likely ex-mining) after getting it setup and installing the drivers the Core Clocks were stuck around 500mhz, memory at 2000 and performance was sluggish 50-60w 99% util (maybe a mining bios?) Followed your video and it's working great now. 👍
I bought Rx 6700 off eBay and it has black screen, but my PC starts and runs. I got full refund for a gpu. I don't have an on board graphic to flash it
Thanks for the video, same thing just happened to me. I bought a RX 570 4GB on eBay. I got no video output at on my X470 AMD system, thankfully I got video output on my old B-85 Intel board. The AMD installer would crash every time I tried installing the drivers. Reflashing the Bios was my last hope, thankfully it worked. There were RX 570's that were 15% cheaper because they had mining bios, and the seller didn't fell like reflashing them all, so he gave a discount. I went with this one because the seller said it was in "Good Condition", no mention it was a mining card, or that it had a mining bios. I paid the extra money, so I wouldn't have to deal with this BS. Luckily, I've been tinkering with computers for a while and had back-ups I could use for testing. The seller sold two total, I feel bad for the other buyer, I hope they can figure it out.
Yeah, the seller should definitely make sure it's clearly marked in the description that it's got a mining vbios. Some do it well and it's not too hard to correct, and can be a great value if you're willing to take the risk it's not just straight up bricked. In retrospect mine didn't need a refund if I had just tried reflashing it, but if it was some business with a different vbios then the seller should've noted it in the listing. Or made sure it was in working order lol.
Men thank you so much, I have a 380 overclocked by Saphirre, and it just happen when I was playing, black screen and a dot on my motherboard appearing, I just followed the step, got a new version and the UEFI work again ! Thanks :)
The different (officially verified) bioses are for different cards. Usually, (on both nvidia and amd) it works fine to flash one to another but it is possible it can cause issues. For example my card is "F3" iteration, and there is both "F2" and "F3" bioses (exact same, same card, model, clocks etc.) however the "F3" is suitable for me in my case. Sometimes (with for example gigabyte gtx cards) "F1" might be flashable to "F5" but not "f10". You can usually find these info on manufacturers site. But generally, pretty safe to flash "wrong" bios.
I just flashed my rx 6700xt, i used the bios from the tech site he was showing in teh video, everything went well the flash tool told me to restart my pc which i did… now my pc wont start, instantly goes into the repair tool and goes full black screen after, i dont know what to do since i cant boot up my pc anymore.. since you said it is safe to even flash a wrong bios and i think i dont even got the wrong one, maybe you got more knowlage than me and can help me
@@lukasd4575 i mean the worst and absolute nono is if flashed one which was made for different memory (some 6700xt use Samsung, others Hynix). You might be able to flash it back correctly by using integrated graphics or another GPU to get display, while having this defect 6700xt inside at same time. And then flash correctly.
I haven't commented this after 3 months Thank you man! My RX560 has issue, and it shows that i have a fake vbios and literally blacks screen randomly on idle even on games, the reddit says gotta change the PSU so I changed it, weeks and weeks took me 1month and 4weekk, and until I found this video. It fixed after Changing Vbios, I would say thank god this video exist.. Not like other Troubleshooter youtuber literally just explain without moving. Unlike this video.. thank you for helping us.
I had the same issue with my 6700xt, I bought it as an used mining card, and it had mining firmware on it preventing windows to decide what to do with it, a quick flash and it worked just fine.
this vid really helped, i bought a firepro w7100 and couldnt get the grips on the flashing software, and this explained everything! it hasn't finished flashing yet, but it seems promising! once again, thank you so much!!!!
@@setMaddy I have the same card as you. can you share what bios you are using to get it done successfully? I keep getting system mismatch error when trying to flash it. TIA
Looks like the issues I am having with a a 5500xt that I bought from Craigslist. It's been forever since I flashed a GPU bios, so it was good refresher video. I will report back.
Many thanks to you. Got a Radeon 6700xt from that went into blackscreen at boot 50% (Linux and Windows), crashed to black screen when above 90°C. So i did your flash procedure, because the vbios was from january 2021 and techpowerup had one from february 2021 (maybe debugged). Few minutes of work, now the card comes up at every boot and stay 85°, think they fixed stuff up.
My friend bought Rx 580 and all the ports on it are missing except the dvi port , it looks like the graphic card was used for heavy mining and its bios is broken and drivers are bugged and aren't loading , another pc technician tells just vbios flash the graphic card , will this work ? Also one of the fan isn't running
Flashing the VBIOS could help in this case. The seller could've flashed a VBIOS that disabled the display ports and only ran one of the fans to save power (or just messed up the curve). No guarantees, but it's definitely worth a shot!
yo ma bro, Im glad to see new video😎💪💪, this is definitely GOOOOD to know😁, n btw I remember you told me this ebay story on discord thanks 4 sharing this🤜🤛
What card do you have? It might be worth googling a vbios for your card model, since sometimes there may be an untested rom that's not shown directly in the TechPowerUp database
The GUI was retired in version 5, so it's only the CLI tool. I plan on making a video for the CLI at some point, but in the meantime there are some guides online on how to use it
Hi.. I have 2ndhand msi mech rx 6600, it has lower clock, 100w max power, 0 rpm below 50, 100% rpm above 50C. Will my gpu back to normal if i flash the bios?
That sounds like it has a VBIOS tuned for crypto mining on it - so yes, it can if you flash one to get it back to the stock settings :) Good luck and be careful!
I bought a refurbished Radeon Pro W5700 expecting to use it on my Mac mini with an Akitio Node Titan eGPU enclosure. For some reason though, I can only use it on my Windows desktop because that's the only thing that worked when I tested it. Any time I tried eGPU on a Mac, it would kernel panic and boot loop until it was powered off or disconnected; then the Mac worked just fine like nothing happened. This GPU *should* work on macOS, because I've seen other UA-cam videos showing the W5700 working on a MacBook Pro. TechPowerUp shows that the VBIOS to my GPU has three different manufacturers: AMD, HP, and Dell. Turns out, mine has an HP VBIOS, since that's the only one that didn't pull any errors when I tried to flash it. I'm guessing that since my GPU came with a bunch of HP documentation, it was an OEM part to an HP workstation. Does that mean my GPU is basically region-locked? Is there a way to bypass this and install a proper AMD VBIOS?
It's possible that HP looked down their BIOS or at least did something weird that isn't compatible with MacOS. But I'm not super familiar with running an eGPU on Macs to know for certain. Let me know if you end up figuring it out though, I'm very curious what's wrong!
@@BitGoblin I’m currently chatting with Apple community support forums, and they’re saying that the OEM locked GPUs haven’t really been an issue for macOS since 2012. They’re suspecting some weird graphic driver issues withmacOS Sonoma in particular. They’re having me test my eGPU on an older version of macOS like Big Sur, which I’m installing now.
PLZ someone Help me , I have an issue of GPU bios light not turning off after booting , this is suddenly happening from yesterday, GPU is giving me some flickering issues and black screens for few seconds ,I thought flashing bios will fix this issue but nothing happened . I don't know what to do now and I can't find this issue anywhere . my card is Rx 6600xt GIGABYTE GAMING OC PRO.
@@muhammadnoman8265I sent that GPU to Gigabyte RMA and it was DEAD. They send me a refurbished Card with totally changed Heat sink, and i am getting more 15° temps than the old Card . Now I am sure this card will burn some part inside and when I will send card again to them , GIGABYTE will for sure tell me that you burnt some part (even though I won't do anything) they will declare that Customer Induced Damage and won't replace it . 😓😓 I literally saved money for 2 years for this card and this is what I get .😕
@@guts711 Card was DEAD bro, I did RMA that . And fkn Gigabyte Replaced my New Card with an Old repaired 6600XT with an entirely changed Heatsink. Wow very usefull sir..ty so much for making this video ..i had try many time reinstall driver..and doing many other process..this vidoe only fix my prob.ty so much
@@BitGoblin I know, I was making a joke about the mining crash and the AMD cards being the popular choice with a BIOS flash since nVidia conveniently did that themselves. But yeah aside from that there aren't many reasons to flash BIOS
Hello i bought a sapphire rx 5600 xt used in mining from china. on the GPU-Z it shows a different subvendor, powercolor instead of sapphire. this card seems to be modified what should i do? should i just flash the original bios?
Im having the same problem Amdvbflashwin is not showing up just AmdvbFlashDriverInstaller.exe can I use this or no it pops up a cmd screen and not sure what to do from there
Damn... im tryna flash my rx5600xt that i just bought second hand, because it keeps black screening when under a load, but nothing works... i tried the newest version of amdvbflash aswell as 2 other (older) atiflash versions. So the newest doesnt contain the amdvbflashWin file, and so i tried running the other executable, but it showed nothing but an empty console window (no commands or nothing worked). One of the older versions didnt recognize that i was using an ati/amd card and the other when trying to open it - did nothing... im losing my mind because in this state the gpu is useless and nothing works.
Hello mister, do I need to plug a NVIDIA card to do so? Or can I connect another AMD card? P.S my AMD Sapphire 6600 XT shows no display like yours 570.
This could be worth a try. Back in April I installed a new update in Adrenaline from AMD and eversince I had horrible problems with the performance of my 6800XT. Tried a buch of stuff but nothing worked. Not even resetting motherboard bios and reinstalling windows several times. Maybe this helps 🤔
Huh, that's weird that a driver update would've borked a graphics card like that. I could maybe see if it was an older card that dropped support, but the 6800 XT is not old lol. I'd suspect maybe it was a bug in the driver unless you've tried a few different versions since then. A vbios flash could help if the image loaded on the card got borked somehow
@@BitGoblin Directly after the new update in April I tried to go back to the older version of adrenaline and the drivers which worked without problems. It made things a bit better but still had problems. I also tried a few newer updates which followed in the months after April but ... Out of luck again. Last week I ended up getting a 4070, installed it and all the problems are completely gone. Everything works as it should. But now I have a 6800XT laying around here without a idea what's wrong 😅
Would this possibly match your GPU? www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/252821/252821 I went to Google and this page popped up from TechPowerUp. It's got a warning about an unverified BIOS file, so I wonder if that's why it wasn't popping up in their database search?
Sir i tried to flash my rx 580. And it just froze. I cant even hover my mouse cursor. Should i press restart button on my pc? or just leave it and maybe it'll finish flashing.
That's tough, but you may just have to force it off if it's stuck. It might've finished but maybe the driver had trouble with it? It's hard to say, but I'd be prepared to another flash just in case.
@@BitGoblin sir just an update, i just pressed the restart button on my pc and it started well. i flashed another vbios version compatible to my gpu and it all went well. Thank you for the tutorial you uploaded. God bless!
Can you help me? If i start the ATI program not running just a message show up what say " Cannot find discrete ATI Video card" but i have AMD Radeon RX 6600m.
Hmm, that's a tough one. If you haven't already, it might be worth trying to update your graphics driver, or trying a different version of ATIFlash. I'd also check if the device shows up in Device Manager.
Hi like you i purchased 3 gpu's from ebay and all 3 crash when the driver is loading. I replaced the thermal paste in them all but still the same result. I am going to try and flash the bios following your instructions and i hope that will remedy the problem, wish me luck. Great video cheers.
@@BitGoblin same as yours. Rx570 powercolor. Tried on another system and same. Now it got worse because I think it shorted out because the whole system wont turn on if I got the gpu plugged.
Shoot, sorry I read your message and totally forgot to reply! It definitely sounds like something is messed up with the power on that card if it's not even able to power on. Do you have another card to test if the rest of the system works?
So i have an old rx 470 that i plan on upgrading the gddr5 1gb vram chips to gddr6 2gb chips. I'm pretty sure I'll need to update the bios chip. Will it support the new 2gb chips? Because when I type in the parameters, there won't be a gddr6 16 gb version on the 470 on their website.
I bought an Aisurix 5500 XT and gpu-z shows it as a non XT- 5500. im guessing this would probably help. the screen randomly flashes black then goes back to normal. happens at idle or load, whenever it feels like it.
Yeah it's definitely worth a shot - sounds like someone flashed a different BIOS on that card to change clock speeds or something. Let me know how it goes!
@@BitGoblin yea I think when Aisurix got their pallets of gpu’s they just popped a new cooler on the board with new stickers and flashed it. I want to get ahold of a second gpu just in case this one bricks. it does read the same clocks and performance just the screen flickering randomly is annoying. Thank you very much for having made this tutorial!
only reason im looking to do a gpu vbios update with original or custom firmware...is to fix the fanspeeds on my 7900xt (the fancurve on the current bios...does not even bother to go above 60% speed while gpu temp goes above 100.C) and i think that is just wrong settings..
100% that's silly, epecially so if that's stock firmware! These days, any bit of cooling not utilized means you're leaving performance on the table. Let me know if your VBIOS flash goes well!
@@BitGoblin i know very well, doing updates for bios/vbios is silly but i also do not update stuff without a good reason. i only do updates only in critical moments. i do have lots of reasons not to do it. 1.vbios can only be flashed around 5 times or less(on gpu) 2.some cases you cannot revert back to the stock one(this is for motherboards idk about gpus) 3.flashing vbios waranty voids (so NO UPDATES) 4.i can still control the fans just fine with a custom fan curve in adrenalin(so the problem is not critical or urgent) 5.never mess around when flashing a bios(here the chances sometimes are like 50-50% win or lose) for now i can stay just fine the way it is(as long adrenalin works in the background as it should) but i dont like the gpu having high temps and then going to thermal throttling because gpu hotspot is too high and fans wont spin fast enough for now il just stay and watch to see what problems appears on the web i can still wait a for a while
I'm trying to flash my 7900xt with the latest bios update but there isn't an option for "amdvbflashWin", i don't have that option, so i cant get into the flash menu, apparently its been removed on the latest one, what other way can i do it bud? :-(
You'll have to do it from the CLI since you have one of the newer cards. I think there's instructions in the archive that's provided, and there's also a guide here on the techpowerup forum: www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/amd-ati-flash-command-line-cmd-syntax-mini-guide-windows.291671/
6800xt has a 6950xt vbios in it. It works overall but when it comes to battlefield 2042 it has graphical anomalies the second you spawn on map and persists untill I resets the computer. I have went through a checklist for the last couple days trying to figure out where the problem was coming from.
It's possible the 6950 XT BIOS has your card on the edge and Battlefield 2042 might stress your card just the right way to push it over the edge. Have you tried potentially downclocking the core or memory clocks to see if that helps?
When I place my known working rx 580 into the main top pcie slot while having the bad rx 580 in the bottom pcie slot the good one won't display and VGA motherboard debug light is on. Help?
Huh that's an odd one. I'm assuming you have a sufficient power supply for both GPUs? And does the system post at all or do you not even see the bios splash screen?
My rx 570 does not give any desplay I played fortnite the night before and the next morning desplay was gone I switched to my older card and that one works any advice I only have 1 GPU port to plug into I have micro ATX motherboard
Hmm, that's odd. Usually a GPU's firmware doesn't go AWOL like that overnight, but it's worth a shot! Assuming you have a 1x slot available you can get a cheap PCI-e riser to connect your RX 570 while you flash the BIOS. Something like this: www.amazon.com/ChenYang-Express-Extension-Extender-Converter/dp/B00S6GK06Y/ref=sr_1_7?crid=1D4E4E1MYFH8O&keywords=PCIe+riser+1x+to+16x&qid=1679586234&sprefix=pcie+riser+1x+to+16x%2Caps%2C75&sr=8-7
After flashing P/N not showing on amdflashwin how will i know my bios is changed or not? My problem is my gpu is fluctuating its usage like 90% sometimes and sometimes it drops to 2% i am not getting the desired fps i have an used gigabyte rx 570
I have an 8GB RX 580 2048sp that came with artifacts, in some games the textures flicker black, in not so demanding games it works normally, just like being in a common app, will changing the BIOS solve the problem?
Good question! It's possible it would fix it, but artifacting to me would suggest that the memory is bad (most likely, since less demanding on the VRAM) or possibly the GPU itself is having errors. Flashing a new firmware shouldn't hurt though, it's definitely worth a shot if nothing else :)
When i try to flash bios with the latest version it says p/n mismatch. But when i download the 3.04 version and open up the insttool 64, it opens up for a split second and then closes immediatley
I have same problem with my Asus RX 580 8GB mining edition with only DVi display port, it turns off display and the GPU fans stops while the CPU fan is still running….. I don’t know if I flash a new bios it will solve the problem
Hey i have an rx570 and i dontk know why after installing driver the fan suddenly turn off it wont turn on and the temperature reach high still it wont turn on and then i checked on the gpuz the ram and the core showing 0mhz and i tried with another driver it still the the same, i was frustrated i swappee with another motherboard and it still the same, could it be a mining bios? I was bought it used rx570 sapphire nitro
How much time do you need to get to the point man? I'm trying to fix my gpu that can black out at any moment. But perhaps more damningly, this amdvbflashwin isn't in the download.
Yeah I rambled a bit, I try to do better but it happens a lot lol. But the amdvbflashwin has been deprecated and removed from the latest version, you'll need to use the CLI now. I made a new video explaining how to use it 🙂
@@BitGoblin i flashed one of the bioses and i ended up with 0 VRAM. Flashed another one and all seems ok. Do you have any ideea were identical at specs, have any reason why would the system have this issue ? PS : reinstalled drivers after every bios update
@@AndyTimeHD For the Nitro + there should be a slower as well as a faster BIOS, with a hard switch. Now you have the fast one running, try switching back to the slow one and flashing that with a fresh slower BIOS. Check that it really is the right one for your version of the card...
The GUI tool was discontinued with version 5.x, leaving only the CLI tool. If you're trying to flash an older card (before RX 7000 series I believe) then you should be able to use an older version.
How do I flash for a certain bios switch? I have a dual bios switch. Also how do I download the PERFORMANCE and QUIET MODE for a GPU? I have RX 580 sapphire nitro+ 8gb.
Honestly I haven't tried it on a dual bios card, but I'd assume it'd flash whichever bios is loaded. So if the switch is on vbios A then it'd flash that one and not affect vbios B. But that's just my guess. I'll have to test this at some point...
A few things I would try if you haven't already: - Update your OS and drivers for the GPU - Use a program like hwinfo64 to watch GPU thermals when you're running a benchmark to make sure it's not overheating - Try the GPU in another system to determine if it's the GPU or your PC A VBIOS flash might help, but this sounds more like a hardware issue than firmware.
hi, recently i have installed windows and my Aorus rx 570 gup drive doesnot install properly, i used this gpu in mac os (Hackintosh) and it was fine. but i moved to windows for using 3ds max. i dont know much about bios, vbios. please help me to get out of it
Hmm, that's a tough one. Maybe flashing the VBIOS would work? I wouldn't think that Apple does anything off with their GPU VBIOSes, but it's certainly something I can see them doing.
Hi sir I did all these things, but at the last stage, the system told me that the BIOS of the company was already installed on the card, but in many games it does not use the real power and has a large performance drop.
Is there another way to change the BIOS card, it has probably already been done with my card and the card was overclocked in the MSI Afterburnt settings, please guide me.
I would try a different version of the BIOS that you can find on TechPowerUp - my card had a few different versions, and if the version you're trying to flash has the same version string as what's already on the card then it won't let you flash it.
Hi, I got a Asus Rx 5600 xt off of taobao for like $90....my problem is, the fans seem to be stuck at 100% fan speed (the cards is at at 100% fan speed at even 26 degrees) I have replaced the paste and tried to flash the bios but some how it's like the fan control is hard coded Update: sorted it out. It was simply a loose fan connector that probably wiggled out during shipping
Hello, I have a Sapphire Nitro+ Rx 580 8gb It has dual bios. When I switch to the Performance bios It's showing Msi vendor with lower Memory and high clock speed 1380and 1750. I am planning to flash it and revert it back to the original Sapphire 1411 and 2000mhz bios. But when I install the flashing tool It only contains 6 files there is no amdflashWin file. When I run the AmdVbflashInstaller and Install the tool It won't showup, I don't know what to do can you help?
Since you're work with an RX 580, try using an older version of amdvbflash (before version 5.x). The GUI was dropped in newer releases and only ships with a CLI tool now.
What are the symptoms? The new VBIOS might've been hiding something faulty with the card, or might've just been a coincidence you didn't experience the issues for a bit. Total shot in the dark, but depending on the age of the GPU it might be the core or the VRAM are degrading, and the new VBIOS you flashed dialed back the clocks just enough to be fine for a hot minute.
@@BitGoblin I bought it faulty, as being completely dead, after I flashed the bios worked fine for a few hours, and I think it would it work a lot of hours continuosly, but in the morning when I start the pc , same issue, now I flashed the bios again and gave a few restarts of the pc , and is fine so far
Do you see another Display Display Device or something along those lines in Device Manager? If so, it might be you have to install the AMD drivers for it to show up.
i have sapphire pulse rx 580 8gb 2048sp v2 my pc randomly crashes and freezes after some time, sometimes it shows artifects and then go completely black, when i cut off my power it runs again for a minute or two, is it a hardware or a bios issue ?
It could be a hardware or vbios issue, but I'd guess possibly it's a power or cooling issue. Is there any way you can view the temps in the BIOS or something before it crashes? Or you could try a different power supply if you have one to see if maybe it's related to power.
@@BitGoblin I don't think its a heating or a power supply issue because even when i max out fans to 100% it still crashes, in normal usage the temps stays in 36-40C, in furmark it goes 84, and i used it in my friend's pc with a different psu it still crashes, so psu is not the issue here either,

2.93 does not have a download option on the Techpowerup website for some reason I guess I will try 2.84. Do you know if I can download 2.9.3 somewhere else? Update: 2.84 wont load and I think this card was used by minors and has been changed to be a R9 380X because when I click on Lookup on the GPU-Z at the top right of the application it takes me to a 380X not what I have that is a Asus R9 380. Not sure what to do at this time. The reason I'm trying to update the Bios is this GPU's sound via HDMI is cutting out and I cant enter my Bios on my computer with it installed but I can with my other GPU and I was hoping doing this would resolve both or at least one of the problems.
@azrabain8210 so if you click on show older versions and do a ctrl-f search for 2.93 I was able to find it. But that version was only a guess, maybe one of the 3.x ones will work if you haven't tried it yet. I think the vbios being wrong could definitely affect booting into the bios, but idk about the hdmi audio. But we'll see if you can get a version of amdvbflash to work lol
Hi I have done all the steps but still my Gpu does not take drivers, it still says (windows have stopped this device because it reported problems (code 43)
What GPU are you having trouble with? If it's an older one, it's possible the drivers you have installed are too new for the card. It could also just be that the card is faulty in some other manner, though I don't know how to troubleshoot much further unfortunately.
I didn't backup the BIOS since the BIOS that was on the card when I got it was already borked, but you can do so with the amdvbflash tool. IIRC you can pass the -s flag and a path to a file to tell amdvbflash to save the current image.

I am stuck with the same issue on RX570 8GB GPU-Z does not pick it up not even BIOS picks it up but fans are running with no display. I have a 750W PSU so I don't think power is the issue. Please let me know should you get a solution to your card.
@maposa867 I ended up upgrading to a newer built box with upgraded motherboard. It was a PCIE support issue. My old motherboard was outdated. But now there is display but fans are not running.
@@BitGoblin It was a PCIE issue, but now there is display on my new pc but the fans are not running. I'm actually now saving for an RTX to save me the headache.

Video on using the CLI? Not yet unfortunately - between work travel, vacation and some family stuff it's been hard to sit down and make a video for awhile. But it is on my list of things to do shortly :)
@emmam0442 it's no problem! In the meantime, you can probably follow this written guide on the TechPowerUp forum to get the flash done with the CLI www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/amd-ati-flash-command-line-cmd-syntax-mini-guide-windows.291671/
Man can you help me with this, am not that techy and this laptop was given to me. Its an e480 with dgpu, how can i activate its gpu to function cause its not showing in the bios but it shows in dxdiag, drivers, and gpuz, especially in gpu z where uefi is disabled, does it have to be like that? Anyways, man i need your help how to enable the unit to use dgpu
Yeah, the GUI was retired in version 5, so you need to use the CLI tool. I plan on doing a tutorial for how to do it in the future, but there should be some tutorials available online as well :) I had pretty bad timing with this video lol.
Hmm, you can maybe try flashing a different version of the BIOS if there is one available? What model of card do you have? That may help in trying to find specific instructions to try and rectify this.
Can you please tell me how did you convince the seller to gives you a refund ? Because i have an issue like this but he says to me that i need to install a bios to the gpu and he send to me a bios file and i don't know if it will fix the issue or not
Honestly I didn't do much to convince them, they just accepted the return request when I filed it through eBay. It was a very thorough request with all the things I tried, so maybe they just saw I tried and nothing worked? Tbh I wouldn't accept that as a possible fix and push for the refund. Requiring you to modify the card in anyway (including flash the vbios) could muddy the waters in the event he wants to fight it, giving them a chance to claim you messed it up somehow with the flash.
So I have this problem with a 6800 xt, when I put it on the top pciex16 slot, no display, but when it's on the 2nd pciex4 slot it works. Now idk if flashing the vbios will fix it or not? It's a used gpu. Any tips/thoughts on this?
@@BitGoblin So I flashed the vbios, and still no displya on the pcie x16 slot... shame I thought this was finally gonna fix it haha, thanks for the reply and the vid tho!
It's possible. You might be able to make up some of the difference between the two models by increasing the core and memory clock speeds and increasing the power limit, but the 6600 XT also has more stream processors and ray accelerators that would also impact performance.
Honestly none that I'm aware of. Best I can say is to compare the details on each VBIOS, unfortunately.

@pcstream1248 that's good to hear!

Until I began searching for VBIOS on the internet as a last resort!! 👋🤝
You're welcome! I'm glad I was able to help you get your graphics card back to working condition! :D
Awesome! I'm glad to hear that! Both you fixing the graphics card, and the keeping another old GPU from being e-waste is another bonus :)
Thanks :)
Awesome, I'm glad my video helped! :D

Also one of the fan isn't running
Flashing the VBIOS could help in this case. The seller could've flashed a VBIOS that disabled the display ports and only ran one of the fans to save power (or just messed up the curve). No guarantees, but it's definitely worth a shot!

How old of a version did you try? IIRC 4.71 should be good for the RX 5000 series
Hello mister, do I need to plug a NVIDIA card to do so? Or can I connect another AMD card?
P.S my AMD Sapphire 6600 XT shows no display like yours 570.
Nope! You can use any functioning graphics card (even integrated graphics) as long as you get a display.
A vbios flash could help if the image loaded on the card got borked somehow

only reason im looking to do a gpu vbios update with original or custom firmware...is to fix the fanspeeds on my 7900xt (the fancurve on the current bios...does not even bother to go above 60% speed while gpu temp goes above 100.C) and i think that is just wrong settings..
100% that's silly, epecially so if that's stock firmware! These days, any bit of cooling not utilized means you're leaving performance on the table.
Let me know if your VBIOS flash goes well!
@@BitGoblin i know very well, doing updates for bios/vbios is silly
but i also do not update stuff without a good reason.
i only do updates only in critical moments.
i do have lots of reasons not to do it.
1.vbios can only be flashed around 5 times or less(on gpu)
2.some cases you cannot revert back to the stock one(this is for motherboards idk about gpus)
3.flashing vbios waranty voids (so NO UPDATES)
4.i can still control the fans just fine with a custom fan curve in adrenalin(so the problem is not critical or urgent)
5.never mess around when flashing a bios(here the chances sometimes are like 50-50% win or lose)
for now i can stay just fine the way it is(as long adrenalin works in the background as it should)
but i dont like the gpu having high temps and then going to thermal throttling because gpu hotspot is too high and fans wont spin fast enough
for now il just stay and watch to see what problems appears on the web i can still wait a for a while

It's possible the 6950 XT BIOS has your card on the edge and Battlefield 2042 might stress your card just the right way to push it over the edge. Have you tried potentially downclocking the core or memory clocks to see if that helps?
@@BitGoblin I was on a bit of a countdown, and I chose to return it to try and get my money back instead. I didn't undervolt or underclock it.

Good question! It's possible it would fix it, but artifacting to me would suggest that the memory is bad (most likely, since less demanding on the VRAM) or possibly the GPU itself is having errors.

I have same problem with my Asus RX 580 8GB mining edition with only DVi display port, it turns off display and the GPU fans stops while the CPU fan is still running….. I don’t know if I flash a new bios it will solve the problem
It's very possible it has a mining VBIOS that disables the displays and makes the fans hold off til it gets hotter. It's worth a shot IMO.
It sounds like it could be a vbios issue, especially since it can't read the core clock or anything. Definitely worth a shot to reflash it
How much time do you need to get to the point man? I'm trying to fix my gpu that can black out at any moment. But perhaps more damningly, this amdvbflashwin isn't in the download.
Yeah I rambled a bit, I try to do better but it happens a lot lol.
But the amdvbflashwin has been deprecated and removed from the latest version, you'll need to use the CLI now. I made a new video explaining how to use it 🙂
Hello..its same to rx470 4gb?..just bought 1 mining gpu..
Yeah, it should be the same process for any AMD GPU :)
@@BitGoblin ty bro
Hey, i have a rx580 nitro+ with 1340mhz clock. Cani flash a 1410mhz bios on it?
Yeah, you should be able to!
Do you know how to fix SSID mismatch
I haven't run into this myself, but depending on your card you may be able to use an older (or different) version of amdvbflash to see if that helps.
why do I not have the GUI version of AMDBVVFlash when I extract the file from Techpowerup?
The GUI tool was discontinued with version 5.x, leaving only the CLI tool. If you're trying to flash an older card (before RX 7000 series I believe) then you should be able to use an older version.
I have only the integrated bios registered on the tool afraid to hit program to want to mess up the integrated one any advise?
How do I flash for a certain bios switch? I have a dual bios switch. Also how do I download the PERFORMANCE and QUIET MODE for a GPU? I have RX 580 sapphire nitro+ 8gb.
Honestly I haven't tried it on a dual bios card, but I'd assume it'd flash whichever bios is loaded. So if the switch is on vbios A then it'd flash that one and not affect vbios B. But that's just my guess.
I'll have to test this at some point...
Hi I just bought a second hand RX580 when I make a benchmark test,it will crash with a black screen and solution sir?
A few things I would try if you haven't already:
- Update your OS and drivers for the GPU
- Use a program like hwinfo64 to watch GPU thermals when you're running a benchmark to make sure it's not overheating
- Try the GPU in another system to determine if it's the GPU or your PC
A VBIOS flash might help, but this sounds more like a hardware issue than firmware.

Please let me know if you got any silution same problem with my rx 570 i bought it in used online market@@MuhammadIsmail-yz8dd
dont u need the driver first for the flash tool to work?
You know, I don't know for sure. I'd assume so but I haven't tested it lol
Yes you install it, do the flash and then uninstall it with the same tool. Driver tool will install and also uninstall when you are done!
hi, recently i have installed windows and my Aorus rx 570 gup drive doesnot install properly, i used this gpu in mac os (Hackintosh) and it was fine. but i moved to windows for using 3ds max. i dont know much about bios, vbios. please help me to get out of it
Hmm, that's a tough one.
@@BitGoblin Is it possible to change the version of the BIOS file before installing it to solve my problem during installation?
Hi, I got a Asus Rx 5600 xt off of taobao for like $90....my problem is, the fans seem to be stuck at 100% fan speed (the cards is at at 100% fan speed at even 26 degrees) I have replaced the paste and tried to flash the bios but some how it's like the fan control is hard coded
Update: sorted it out. It was simply a loose fan connector that probably wiggled out during shipping
Have you tried msi after burner?
@@mrwoolfy3286 I sorted it out....the connector wasn't seated properly so reseating solved it for me. It was a hardware issue anyways.
i have a rx 5600 xt too and one of my fan is stuck a 100 % too

@@BitGoblin hello, thanks for the response. I tried the 2.93 version and forceflashed it and now its working. 😀
Awesome! :D I'm glad it's working now!
I dont think you answer but i need vbios for Xfx rx 470 8gb, not 4 but 8 gb card...
Were you not able to find an image on the TechPowerUp website?
Can I change firmware while I'm using, or do I need 2 video cards to do the process?
Yep! You can definitely flash the VBIOS of a running GPU. :) The only reason I had a second was to use for display when the RX 570 wasn't working.
@@BitGoblin Thank you! I'm not able to change my current firmware then I thought that could be the case
I flashed mine also, but after working fine for hours, it starting again to have same symptoms like before I flashed
@@BitGoblin I bought it faulty, as being completely dead, after I flashed the bios worked fine for a few hours, and I think it would it work a lot of hours continuosly, but in the morning when I start the pc , same issue, now I flashed the bios again and gave a few restarts of the pc , and is fine so far

my pc randomly crashes and freezes after some time, sometimes it shows artifects and then go completely black, when i cut off my power it runs again for a minute or two, is it a hardware or a bios issue ?
It could be a hardware or vbios issue, but I'd guess possibly it's a power or cooling issue. Is there any way you can view the temps in the BIOS or something before it crashes? Or you could try a different power supply if you have one to see if maybe it's related to power.
@@BitGoblin I don't think its a heating or a power supply issue because even when i max out fans to 100% it still crashes, in normal usage the temps stays in 36-40C,
in furmark it goes 84, and i used it in my friend's pc with a different psu it still crashes, so psu is not the issue here either,
did you manage to make it work? im having the same issue with my rx580 8gb

Unfortunately newer version of the amdvbflash tool don't come with the Windows GUI tool anymore and you must use the CLI tool. I'll make a tutorial in the future on how to use the CLI.
I had some real bad timing on this one lol...

Some people have gotten around this error by using an older version of amdvbflash, like 2.9.3
Thx for the tip I will give it a try tomorrow and let you know if it works.
I tried them all, and none of them worked. I have no idea what else to try. I just don’t understand why it’s giving me the error
It's an MSI RX 570 gaming X 4gb
How did you backup the original bios?
I didn't backup the BIOS since the BIOS that was on the card when I got it was already borked, but you can do so with the amdvbflash tool. IIRC you can pass the -s flag and a path to a file to tell amdvbflash to save the current image.
You can extract your own bios and save it using GPUZ
My RX6700XT Memory type are from Micron and all the bios is Samsung only i cant find the Micron type from the tech powerup bios is it gonna be a huge problem if i just install it?
I think it should be fine? I don't know if the memory chips would make a (huge) difference in the VBIOS, but if you try it let me know how it works!
@@BitGoblin I don't want to take the risk and brick my only card lol
Fair point lol

Sounds like it might be the firmware. Does it get detected when using amdvbflash?
@maposa867 I ended up upgrading to a newer built box with upgraded motherboard. It was a PCIE support issue. My old motherboard was outdated. But now there is display but fans are not running.

Can i make rx 6600 to XT version with this?
It's possible. You might be able to make up some of the difference between the two models by increasing the core and memory clock speeds and increasing the power limit, but the 6600 XT also has more stream processors and ray accelerators that would also impact performance.
