The basics are as such, she's married to a war hero and known moneylender and after being injured and falling ill he dies, and after falling on hard times because her husband can no longer go out to war, she starts calling in her debts and around this time accusations begin to surge and her arrest comes next. accused of murder and torture and with a mountain of evidence to supposedly back it up she is convicted and assigned to house arrest for the rest of her life and her four servants were burned at the stake. her story subsists in pop culture today and among historians as now we debate just how much of it is rumor and how much is imagination and fiction. just like any good debatable topic the evidence is flimsy at best and mostly circumstantial and almost everyone involved had something to gain. before I breakdown the 3 'views' from the video I am just gonna say due to time lag, a lack of evidence besides testimony, and hearsay, we are not going to get a definite answer and likely never will so make your peace. the amount of evidence leveled at her is telling and there must be at least a little truth there but her family also loaned money to the king and several other noble houses and had enough clout to defy the hapsburgs if they wished. @@cyberninjazero5659 not really. the first story presents an occult obsession as the leading cause. No this happened irl. Elizabeth got falsely accused of witchery by other nobles who wanted her land. She was in house arrest for about a year in her own palace requesting a trial multiple times from the emperor but not getting any until they accumilated enough evidance against her.
Cool! It's very different from your usual fast-paced stories full of jokes, but it is really cool! I like how you framed the story to tell the different perspectives. Only thing that threw me off was that during the trial they called her 'Elizabeth'. Like.. that's still *Lady* Bathory to you.
This was a great video! I only knew the more salacious side of the Elizabeth Bathory story from a book I read when I was in 6th grade, I believe it was called "The Blood Countess." It's a historical fiction that plays up the murdering virgin girls to retain her youth angle, along with some extra curricular activities that were eye opening to an 11 year old. Still, one thing that is a weird coincidence is how two of our most famous historical vampires seem to be from around the Carpathian basin region (Romania, Hungary). Is it just spooky there or something? Also, it's funny to read the comments where all the cultured people mention how this video was constructed around Rashomon while I just thought of a half remembered quote about the truth being in the middle of two stories from an episode of Johnny Bravo.
Everyone’s commenting about how Jack uploaded this at midnight but I’m in a different time zone so it ain’t spooky at all. Or even spookier because it’s still spooktober where I am.
I... I don't have words to describe this. I felt sadness and fright in equal measure; you surpass yourself in every aspect. Well done and thank you for your work.
God, what the fuck. This is way too underrated, i swear. Oh the vampire thing yeah yeah whatever but the fact that it’s so underrated is killing me man.
I'm a simple girl, I hear Roy Kahn era Kamelot, I thumb up! "Once I struck a servant She's a virgin, free from sin Drops of blood cares me And revive my ancient skin..."
Glad she's finally getting a "fair trial" we'll never know for sure if she was actually guilty of everything but there were definitely dodgy dealings going on with her accusers. It's very suspicious and throws a ton of reasonable doubt on the claims. For a slightly less dramatic perspective look up Nobel Blood the podcast they did an episode on her 🧐
I would like to see Paul Von Lettow-Vorbeck. He was chaddest of chads during WW1. He and his 14,000 Askari fought around 250,000 British Soldiers, and killed 60,000 of them. He even destroyed Portugal Mozambique and had successful campaigns in British Uganda and Rhodesia. He was loved by his soldiers and was hailed as a hero when he came back to Germany, even though they lost the war. Basically he was the OG Desert Fox in 1914-1918.
The unsettling thing about this case is that we never WILL know what really happened. A lot of truths and lies could have been mixed together so seamlessly and due to the lack of reliable records, we have nothing other than speculation and certain implications. A serial who wanted to be young? A noble woman who tried to save sickly girls with the ‘best’ methods possible in that time? A king who didn’t want to/ couldn’t pay his debt (and a to a woman no less), so he orchestrated a plot to frame her and soil her family name so that no family member could collect the debt? We will never know for sure. (I wanted to clarify with one of the questions that I’m referring to the time period perspective of what that would have looked like, for a king to owe an outrageous debt to any woman, even if she was of the highest noble house.)
I never believed she was really guilty. Crown owed her money and others wanted her wealth. Quote from wikipedia: "Several authors such as László Nagy and Dr. Irma Szádeczky-Kardoss have argued that Elizabeth Báthory was a victim of a conspiracy.[28][4] Nagy argued that the proceedings against Báthory were largely politically motivated, possibly due to her extensive wealth and ownership of large areas of land in Hungary, escalating after the death of her husband. The theory is consistent with Hungarian history at that time, which included religious and political conflicts, especially relating to the wars with the Ottoman Empire, the spread of Protestantism and the extension of Habsburg power over Hungary.[29] Moreover, Matthias owed a large debt to Báthory, which was cancelled after she was arrested.[1]"
Holy crap, that was riveting! More like this, please! Presenting all of the histories different perspectives and interpretations in a compelling fashion
I really loved that it was presented this way. Instead of going for the usually comedic route of presenting what happened - we are left to decide who to trust which ultimately is when it comes to the case of Elizabeth Bathory. I once had someone special that quite liked to emulate Elizabeth Bathory but I knew she was kind, told me absurd things but I trusted that some parts of it were true. I never understood that woman completely but she had a heart of gold to those willing to put up with her. Thank you for this Jack

Had fun being apart of this and glad to see it all come together so well. Love your style and can't wait to see more from ya!
The soundtrack is phenomenal! Really fits the atmosphere.
Still easily one of my favourite videos of yours; magnificent work
An absolute masterpiece. Very well voiced, the animation is top notch and overall, this is one of the most gripping tales Jack Rackham has ever told.
Elizabeth’s voice actress is great, almost sounded like Jessica Walter
your best video yet honestly
This is basically a reference to the film "Rashomon" directed by Akira Kurosawa. Which was, fun fact, based on a short story titled "In a Grove".
No this happened irl. Elizabeth got falsely accused of witchery by other nobles who wanted her land. She was in house arrest for about a year in her own palace requesting a trial multiple times from the emperor but not getting any until they accumilated enough evidance against her.
@@sealking3838 Of course the tale told is a real one, but the structure and style of the telling of the tale is a Rashomon reference
Wait a minute... this Liz isn't a cute anime idol?!
*gasps*
Carmila menaces in the background.
Then again, Red Saber was actually a fat neckbeard.

And the last Templar is not an Eldritch Jailbait 🤣
Well at least we still have the Otome version of King Arthur's genderbent 😅
@@purpledragon3075 Ah, I too would like to be stepped on by literal goth noblewoman
@@ForelliBoy Goth noble woman? Pretty sure that's just a shiny golden cube
That was brilliant. using your limited meme animation for a captivating story.
This is one of the best videos I've seen in a long time! Amazing work Jack :)
This is the best. I like the changing phase from the humor videos with this kind of more serious and theatrical stuff. I love it.
Cool! It's very different from your usual fast-paced stories full of jokes, but it is really cool! I like how you framed the story to tell the different perspectives.
Only thing that threw me off was that during the trial they called her 'Elizabeth'. Like.. that's still *Lady* Bathory to you.
Love the animation, love how you did all of this, and that you used the Main Interiour of Castle Dimitrescu from RE:Village
The quality on this video is the best to date, very awesome!
The production quality is amazing
Everyone’s commenting about how Jack uploaded this at midnight but I’m in a different time zone so it ain’t spooky at all. Or even spookier because it’s still spooktober where I am.
The Tale of Elizabeth Bathory, but with the Rashomon effect. Probably my favorite video you have ever done Jack.
That was a spectacular video, thank you so much for bringing it into this world
Jack Rackham put his whole soul into this. I and Mrs Elizabeth Bathory thank you sir
I... I don't have words to describe this. I felt sadness and fright in equal measure; you surpass yourself in every aspect.
Well done and thank you for your work.
This is magnificent and I can’t believe I missed it yesterday
man this is amazingly well made
This is brilliant ! The sound track is awe inspiring, great job man .
Wow, this has to be your best one yet!
I absolutely LOVED this, Jack! Fantastic work by all involved!
Absolutely brilliant! Love the change of pace, and yet there is much of the familiar mixed in with the new angle. Well done, and keep it up!!
God, what the fuck. This is way too underrated, i swear. Oh the vampire thing yeah yeah whatever but the fact that it’s so underrated is killing me man.
Jesus thanks for the vid Jack best vid yet
This is by far the best video you have ever made, loved every second of it. Thank you
I'm a simple girl, I hear Roy Kahn era Kamelot, I thumb up!
"Once I struck a servant
She's a virgin, free from sin
Drops of blood cares me
And revive my ancient skin..."
Fantastic video as always, Jack. I hope you do more experimenting with your editing and production, because this worked out very well :)
Love the vids keep it up
Glad she's finally getting a "fair trial" we'll never know for sure if she was actually guilty of everything but there were definitely dodgy dealings going on with her accusers. It's very suspicious and throws a ton of reasonable doubt on the claims. For a slightly less dramatic perspective look up Nobel Blood the podcast they did an episode on her 🧐
Jack this might be your best video ever, great stuff
A very, very cool way to discuss Bathory's story! Well done!
Your best vid yet!
Amazing video man! Really really great!
That was amazing! It was basically an actual short film!
So glad to have found your channel early so i could witness your growth.
This was magnificent it proves that my 6 dollars a month is being put to good use. Keep up the amazing work Jack love the content
This is how you teach.
I'd never even heard of some of these people before.
But it'll be hard to forget about them now.
This is one of the very few videos I wish I could watch for the first time again. Such good quality!!
Lizzy, what's your skincare regimen?
This was a great video. I didn’t comment on it when I first watched it, but I’ll comment on it now. I loved it.
Amazing! Definitely one of your best videos.
Quote from wikipedia:
"Several authors such as László Nagy and Dr.
Not the usual Jack Rackam video we've come to expect. But hey it's Halloween. So nice job.
Amazing video Jack, happy Halloween!
good choice of character for Halloween, looking forward to watching this ;)
New Jack Rackam, count me in!
Great post for Halloween.
Jack with the late upload I’m here for it plus ya ever gonna do a part two of CK3 Byzantines
Hell yeah Jack! This was awesome!
Dude, I really dig this more narrative dramatic approach. Great job.
Holy crap, that was riveting! More like this, please! Presenting all of the histories different perspectives and interpretations in a compelling fashion
I've always had a soft spot for Elizabeth Bathory. And yes, it's because she was my first summon in FGO
Same here.
I got the "historic" Bathory (twice!) before the Fate-ized version
still doesn't explain why she's like that in FGO
@@ForelliBoy Oh you mean Carmilla... well we got her, Witch Bathory, Knight Bathory and Godzilla parody Bathory
@@thesymbiotenation.4552 She’s like that because that’s how she’s portrayed in Fate/Extra CCC
Cool video handsome history man
This was amazing work on every front.
Finally got a chance to watch!!!
Omg so freaking awesome!!!!
