I applaud your persistence with that particular mower - if it were me I would have given up as soon as I recognized how bad the cylinder bore, camshaft and the exhaust valve were.
I would’ve liked to play with this engine. It’s scrap anyway but I would quite enjoy tinkering with it to see how much better I could get it to run. Your professionalism, knowledge and dedication to the art of small engines is impressive!
Even severely damaged that old briggs still manages to do some work. Very impressive. When you did that compression test I never imagined that engine would be so badly damaged. 92 psi is pretty good for one of those engines.
Man thats why I like briggs, you can beat the snot out of them and have like no compression and somehow they will still fire up, I had a old 6 horse push mower where the rings were gone, it smoked the entire time it was running and it felt really easy to pull the string like no compression, I dumped rear end fluid in it as I had no oil on hand, I used that thing for 2 years before I just gave it away to someone who needed a mower.
That is some vintage mower I’ve never seen before, in ok condition (except the engine) absolutely amazing to see it running and mowing again! Great work 😃 can’t wait for the next video.
Agreed, just more trouble after some trouble, but perserverence payed off. Shows what could be done with a half desent engine, or one you could get parts for
THIS was equally the most brilliant and hilarious thing I've watched in a long time mate 😂, seeing you ride that mower with basically Hazmat PPE because of the exhaust, had me absolutely rolling! Great job! Getting that to even start let alone mow your lawn is a testament to your knowledge and expertise. I really wish I had a neighbour like you 😂 so great 👍
I used to service these when I was young. Brings back horrible memories. 😀 You can see where the Red Arrows got the smoke idea from. Looking at the wear on the oil ring I'm betting you could get a whole set of feelers in there. The starter clutch was completely worn which is why it was jamming up.
Oh, wow, I haven't seen one of those mowers in decades. My dad had one in the mid 80's (in the US, btw, don't know what it was called over here). After moving to where we live now in the late 80's he hit something and stalled it, never ran since. Me, being a senior in highschool in '99, decided to take the engine off and into my small engines class. When I pulled the flywheel off, I discovered it was just a sheered flywheel key that kept it from running. Dad never checked it. I still had to tear it all down for the class and my teacher asked if it was a new engine because the piston was so clean that he didn't think it was as old as I told him. I still have the shop manual for the engine around somewhere even though I no longer have the motor or the mower.
This has been fantastic to view dude. An hour+ showcasing your skills, knowledge, and that dogged perseverance to get it to run 😁. Not to mention the pleasing timbre of your dulcet tones 😉. I've watched this with the same kinda levels of anticipation and expectation of any big budget movie. Honest. Favourite bit was waiting for the exhaust smoke to clear to see if it was actually cutting while you drove around 😁. Thanks for this my man. Muchly appreciated and enjoyed 🙏. 😎
I do appreciate your speaking about everything and your explanation of how things work and the purposes for all the parts. I prefer these videos over your restoration videos for the simple fact these are extremely educational for me. Thank you for all of your videos.
unbelievable patience there i think... well done... considering the condition of it, you did well with the basic restore, although we could probably hear in your voice how much it was bugging you.. but well done all the same. Looking forward to the Next one.
With all the grass cutting on your videos, your neighbors must think you are obsessed with your garden.😆 Very impressed with your work. Have a wonderful day.
I have one of those mowers in my barn. My grand father bought it brand new. It’s missing the mower deck. I use to drive it around our farm when I was a kid. Good video.
Check the gas and fill with oil machine 😁! Amazing that you got her running again. It's definitely seen some hard use in it's past! Thanks for sharing!
I have owned a few what I call conventional mowers like that with both front and rear engines. I now own a zero turn mower for two years and would never go back>> Cutting the lawn is a pleasure and I look forward to it every week !
Great video. I would like to see that mower with a different engine. It seemed like a sturdy, well-built machine. I agree that the engine is only good for parts!
Tbh, I love the fact that you got this thing going in the condition that it was. It is more entertaining and slightly impressive to see what shouldn’t be done, well, be done.
I would like to see you restore this mower with a better engine. For the condition it was in it ran well and you killed Mosquitoes while you mowed the lawn lol 😂. Love what you do I throughly enjoyed your videos. Have a Blessed day sir from Silverstreet South Carolina USA 🇺🇸
Wow, congratulations! I was not expecting that to work at all let alone so well, I'd love to see a full restore on this mower with a new/refurbished engine. Great little machine there.
I've been working on an old 1970 Hahn-Eclipse Pow-R-Boy 200, complete with a 5hp Briggs and a steering wheel from a 1966 Mercury! I call her Goldie, as in Goldie Hahn. Cheers from Alberta, Canada!
As we can see, this abused small engine could be brought to life again and will now be a reliable partner to cut the lawn even after a heavy rain. This engine will be grateful for every kind of attention you bring to it 😂 Anyway, nice to follow the video and learned a lot. Greetings from Germany and keep on going 🌞🍀👍
I like your variety of projects, and goals of restoration vs will it run. This was fun to watch and congrats on getting it running. Agree that it would make a nice resto or at least “new” engine👍👍👍
We are not going to judge you whatsoever for not putting enough effort in; you've already put way too much! We know that motor is scrap. Love these videos and keep up the great work!
had the same mower, turned it into a free go cart, took the engine off, used a side shaft motor direct drive with cintrifuge clutch, then direct chain drive to rear sprocket, had to cut a slot for chain to go through , reached a speed of 40km/h wide open, great for going up and down hills, used it in winter to pull my 2 stroke snowblower and gas on a mini 6 foot long x 4 foot wide trailer around town to do side walks and driveways
one things for sure you wont get any mosquitoes when mowing with this 😂 also the fact that this engine runs with everything thats wrong with it just goes to show how tuff these old briggs and stratton's really are
Très beau travail de mécanique 👍bon courage pour l amortisseur et a bientôt pour la suite pour l amortisseur peu être voir du côté des scouts italiens ✋
I think you could take the prize for the best running worst riding mower in all of your country. The only thing that could make it worse is if you somehow backfire every once in a while! Loved the video and the effort you extended on getting that pile to actually work. I thought you would junk the project or part it out to others before the end.
I've seen it all...cutting grass in a hazmat suit and a respirator...classic..at least it's running..talk about bringing the dead back to life you did it..I've had my share of worn out engines..good job..see you on the next one Cheers friend 🍻🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍👍👍
You should have put a white helmet on and you could have been The Stig's twin brother Dag! :) You are always up for the challenges, nice job and thanks for sharing your project.
I used to have a Ford RMT 51 that looked just like this monster some 40 years ago here in the States. You can see some pictures around the net of the bigger brother Ford RMT 66 which had a slightly larger deck and fenders. This one looks the same as my old Ford RMT 51 except the color. I remember sticking a new B&S 8HP IC series engine on mine as the old 5HP was too far gone and I used it for years to mow lawns with in my youth. Of course without the special deeply grooved drive belt, the thing would pop wheelies all day long dumping the clutch in third gear. LOL
I couldn't tell if you were mowing the lawn or smoking it, haha. Nice job though on bringing that poor ol' engine back to life! Clearly there were some hacks that had their grubby little fingers on it before you got it.
That's amazing, it reminds me of my 70s Stiga, looks similar. Mine was an 8hp but now has the 12hp fitted along with a twin blade deck that I recently converted to be more mulcher. I was looking for another out front Husqy, but this Stiga is just so plucky and fun. The engines so big it acts like a penny racer ( maybe before your time) ? Great work getting it to run, good bones to work with.
I had a similar briggs nd Stratton engine that locked up due to running out of oil and it was the crankshaft seizing to the sump. With a drill press I drilled out the hole in the sump oversized installed a bronze bushing. Cleaned up the crankshaft is best I could and the mower has been running for 10 years.
What a cool little machine. Shame the engine is so far gone, however impressed you got it running. Can cut grass and kill mosquitoes all at the same time lol.
Looks rather like the King Cub made in Katikati NZ, an altogether solid, tough and reliable mower, more expensive than the cheap pressed steel rip-shit-and-bust numbers with pretty paint jobs, but well worth it in the long run. I like your style and it's a pleasure to listen to your voice that would go down a treat on radio.
I appreciate the fact that you show a bad engine. Seems like some folks would not want to show a less than perfect restoration but not every project goes as we hope.
If many also have a walk behind brush mower when if it came from the factory with a six horsepower Briggs and Stratton engine when if the few also have an older riding lawnmower also with a six horsepower engine when if they allegedly blew it up to replace it with a 12 HP Briggs and Stratton with electric start.
I also had a Briggs 19 that I was rebuilding that I had to scrap because of a bent crankshaft. Of course I didn't discover it until I had the engine re-bored and bought a new piston. Like you, I couldn't find a new or good used crank so after keeping it for a while I just recently scrapped the whole project.
lovely work mate cheers from Australia 🐨🐑🦘🌏to your area and yep funny how some people don,t know to work on engines before your doing but yeah at least you got her running in the end etc.
WOW, a combination mower. It mows the grass AND sprays for mosquitoes all at the same time... So glad to see it up and running, even if only for a little bit. A truly majestic machine, mowing the lawn and fogging mosquitos at the same time!
I applaud your persistence with that particular mower - if it were me I would have given up as soon as I recognized how bad the cylinder bore, camshaft and the exhaust valve were.

60psi is enough for an engine to run
Man lol my 27hp kawi has 180 left and 190 on the right cylenders lol
I have a weed whack that runs on about 15
@@VikingDudee i them cause there are quiet and great on fuel
To look at that machine I never would have believed it would mow ever again. You are amazing. Thanks.
The fact you got it running was nothing short of witchcraft. Cracking watch. Well Done.

.thanks
That is some vintage mower I’ve never seen before, in ok condition (except the engine) absolutely amazing to see it running and mowing again! Great work 😃 can’t wait for the next video.
Agreed, just more trouble after some trouble, but perserverence payed off. Shows what could be done with a half desent engine, or one you could get parts for

Love watching your vids, no waffle no messing about just great quality content and excellent commentary. Cheers restorer.
Much appreciated
Who needs waffles when you have this lovely flapjack snack of a video?

I have a lot of respect for you and how you are a responsible person and conscientious of things.
Loved your video. Sounded like an old hit and miss motor at idle when you first got it started. God bless.
Run a can of Sea Foam through it and it will run like new.
I most certainly would have chucked that engine, credit to you for getting it running.
Imagine my surprise when i'm randomly watching some restoration video and Farming Sim legend Daggerwin is the one restoring the mowers. Blew my mind

Thank you for your video. You do such a fine job filming and editing. Nice to watch on a cold, rainy day.
And it still cut grass. Awesome video. I need a winter project. Might have to get me a ride on to do up for next season.
Mother of gods that engine is so shoot. Fill the oil and check the fuel kind of engine. Really impressed you got that one running. Great work
Oh that was such a brilliantly funny end to a labour of love. God job fella. Put a bit of dye in the tank and join the Red Arrows!
How you persevered and actually got it to run shows a strength of character that few possess. Well done!
Amazing project, can't wait to see a complete restoration 😊
15:39 yesssssss thank you, too many people ignore this and don’t realize the damage they do
At least you got it to run!! & at least I see your face!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
👍👍 C'est toujours un grand plaisir de regarder vos vidéos ! Merci ! (It's always a pleasure to watch your videos! Thanks !)

Nice we have a British Mustie1. great video shame about the condition of the engine but you did your best and got it to work
I'm impressed you even got that engine to cough once let alone running enough to cut grass! Impressive as always
For a smoke screening tank it does a good job of a mower impression 😀
Funky looking mower. Actually, of all the ones you've showcased so far, probably the most. And yup, hacked to heck and back. Good work!
Just started watching this video. 45secs in, your man handling it lol!

well done on getting that running, been a really good video to watch like all your videos you put out 👍
I'm from Indiana. We had that same Hans for years growing up. Wow what a blast from the past.
Looks like it has all the same problems ours did. Must come stock like that😂
We’re they designed to stand up like on its back end like a snapper?
@@glentucker4250 yes. We had one too...in FL. They were a good mower, a nice alternative to the Snapper and the Cub Cadet.

Every time I watch one of these videos why do I have a desire to play Farming Simulator?😃

You should have put a white helmet on and you could have been The Stig's twin brother Dag! :) You are always up for the challenges, nice job and thanks for sharing your project.
This was a very enjoyable video. You know what, this would be a great test for some oil adatives to see if the would stop the smoking, etc.

An easy solution to scoring is soldering or melt aluminum build it up in cracks and then sandpaper it down to fill it, hope that helps🤘
Good old Briggs... it smokes like a 2stroke engine but it goes! Love it.
On the plus side, at least you shouldn’t have to worry about mosquitoes with that plume of smoke. 😂
That's nuts can't belive it ran! Not sure what the mosquito situation is like in England, however if you had them, now you don't :)
What a cool little machine. Shame the engine is so far gone, however impressed you got it running. Can cut grass and kill mosquitoes all at the same time lol.
That is a classic machine and engine you have there young man 👍😎
That engine has never been serviced since it was new. It's amazing that it's still in one piece.
Another vote for at least a partial restoration on this one. Looks to be in really good complete shape. Great video as always 👍

Very much enjoyed the video. Not a surprise at all that even though it’s severely damaged it still runs.
Hard to kill a Briggs and Stratton engine.
