This technique could be used on mounting on other objects as well. Im thinking of a mason jar or metal container. I never thought of using buttons and lacing the back.
This was wonderful! I ordered the snowman and the witch and will attempt these soon. I hope to be able to get the patriotic stitch when it comes back in stock! Thank you sharing how to make these! You’re an excellent teacher!!❤❤
Snowman finish is great. Love the buttons and the twine. My daughter lives in downtown Lowell, MA in an old cotton mill turned condo. I’ve sent her on the hunt for old spools in Lowell.
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I have all three spools. I also have the Snowman and Santa from Threadworks Primitive and the Witch is in. 😂😂😂 these will be new starts for 2025. I can’t wait. You are my #1 enabler 😂❤️. Happy stitching.
You are a very clever crafter!! This is an awesome tutorial. Now I can tackle finishing my Tiny Towns on a spool my husband made for me. He offered to make more than one spool I told him that would be excessive! He has no idea just how many Tiny Towns I have finished nor how many patterns waiting to be stitched.😂 Thank you! I feel as though I have good base to start.
Thank you for sharing this finishing technique!!! Love how it looks! I have the spools and snowman pattern and look forward to being able to finish it like this! I always enjoy your flosstubes!
Oh my goodness! I have a spool and completed cross stitch piece but was so intimidated I kept delaying trying to finish it. Now I think I can give it a go. Many thanks!
Thank you again and again! I ordered a bunch of these spools, and they came very quickly. I'm waiting on a Nutcracker pattern that I'm going to use for gifts this Christmas. I hope I can make mine come out even half as well as yours. Thank you for the time and your expertise that you share with us.
Nice finish Helen. Finally, I found someone else that measures like I do. I always say close enough. Hoping I can find some of these spools in the antique shops in my area though we have more thrift shops than antique stores. Like the idea of using the buttons to attach the stitched piece so it can be changed out.
I really liked how everything looked in the first video, but when you showed it with the little bit of stabilizer and batting it was even better! If you take the end of a pin or safety pin and kind of scratch the paper on the fusible tape it makes it a bit easier to peel off. Make a scratch from top to bottom like the back of some stickers.
Helen, bless your bones for sharing your experience with us! Love this tutorial on placing a stitched piece on a spool!! My husband is a wood worker and he just told me to give him measurements and he’ll make what ever sized spool I want ◡̈. Going to give this a try. Thank you so overly much!
Thanks so much for this tutorial, Helen! I stitched a nutcracker on perforated paper, backed the piece with wool felt, & finished it on a 5" vintage spool. It came out great, & was very easy to work with. However, I did have to permanently mount it on the spool. I am definitely going to try your technique using a fabric piece that would allow me to reuse the spool!
Great tutorial! I think both edge finishes are good. The hand stitch looks good as well as the clean edge. A tip for removing the two sided adhesive paper - score it with a pin across it. Really makes it easier that getting that little smooth corner.
Helen if you want some other designs that would probably fit on a spool, check out Stitching with the Housewives and their Sassy Strippers designs. I think they would be adorable on the 7x2 spools.
I'm sure on "camera" it's hard, but I was like oh no, don't cut that edge, lol. When dimensions are close I sometimes put a T at the top. I need that Tape. Good idea to remove the bulk & leave the corners in tact. I like to have Fray check on stand-by if I have to snip anything. Yes, wing it!! Another fun tutorial, TY
Helen, I enjoyed your tutorial on cross stitch spool finishing. I was wondering if you could address a couple of questions on your next floss tube. What is your stand on using Thread Magic and/or bees wax for coating your floss, or do you prefer using nothing. Also, where do you stand on variegated floss. My stitched pieces using this type of fancy floss never look variegated. Why can't you use the loop method to start and also you are supposed to complete each cross stitch one at a time. Thanks.
Helen! You are an amazing finisher! You make finishing look so easy! Thank you so much for always sharing your talent with us! I really appreciate it!

Thank you. So cute! You make everything look so easy! You give me….and I’m sure many, the ‘I can do this’ confidence! Thank you again!
You can do it!!

GREAT!!!
Helen, this was great! You are a terrific teacher. Were you ever classroom teacher?
Nope! I thought about it in high school, but didn't end up going in that direction.
Helen, I enjoyed your tutorial on cross stitch spool finishing. I was wondering if you could address a couple of questions on your next floss tube. Helen this is probably a dumb question, but do you clean your spools before putting cross stitch on them?
@@juliannefrankie120 yes, I did use a damp cloth to clean them off. They're from an old mill, so they're sure to be a little grimy. 😊
@@helend.flosstube Thank you!
Sewing the buttons are so tedious! But, so cute!!
