base-jumping

- BASE jumping is the sport of using a parachute to jump from fixed objects. "BASE" is an acronym that stands for the four categories of objects from which one can jump; (B)uilding, (A)ntenna, (S)pan (a bridge, arch or dome), and (E)arth (a cliff or other natural formation). BASE jumping is much more dangerous than skydiving from aircraft and is currently regarded as a fringe extreme sport
This was the first classic base compilation on UA-cam. Good memories watching this when it first came out in 2005 I think (?).
Norwegian Blue is a great video. It's about one man's first base jump, at Lysefjord, and is incredibly well done. Really gets the heart going.
One issue (out of many, many issues) involved in the wing-suit water landing challenge is controlling the wing-suit flight as transition onto the water surface (presumably standing) is made. An immediate next issue is what a person would wear on their feet that would afford a reasonably stable slide across the water that wouldn't aerodynamically interfere with the wing-suit flight characteristics.
Keep the ideas coming.
1st base is an awsome movie! The best film norwegians have ever made.
Words cannot express how amazing I think all this is. I am almost in a stationary and static state of tears, because this looks like freedom on another realm that I cannot even fathom.
Kodreti - Thanks for info. I'm also researching the question with various wing-suit manufacturers. This much I do know: the world record water skiing speed is 146 mph (approx 235 kph). The record "flying" water-ski jump is 90.6 meters (apprx 292) feet, which at gravity's constant 32'/sec sq, and ramp height of 10 feet would mean max jump height of approx 46 feet and horizontal speed of 107 feet/sec, or 72 mph.
yeah ive already seen this vid many times before, i love it
3:44 the jump into the fog is definately the best part of it
I watch this video every now and then and it feels like I'm right there, flying with the people in the clip, this is definitely something I have to do.
cris92faur - Yehp, you are starting to address the relevant questions: What are the minimum achievable vertical speeds. When within 5-10 feet of the water surface, an additional helpful factor is a law of aerodynamics called "ground effect", where the lift generating surfaces are aided by air-compression against a hard surface (ground or water), which would lower the forward speeds necessary.
Ground effect is well known and researched affecting airliners, gliders, helicopters, and to some lesser degree because of the higherwing, hang gliders. After that, I would treat the landing problem akin to a difficult (IE high) water skiing event.
You guys are the BEST!!! always wanted to do it but not legal here in Sydney - ITs the next thing on my TO DO list besides race my drag car!!
Well done guys!! :)
the little red sled is hilarious!!! I wanna try!
Awesome Video, I think it would have been cooler if the person with the peace sign would have jumped too, and the last guy would have jumped out of the window.
wow if i ever fell off a huge cliff or something that was that tall and i knew i was going to die id try to do all those cool moves they did
I never forget this...
WHERE in the world is that cliff face in the opening jump scenes in this video? AMAZING!
I sky-dived one summer, Did approx 30 jumps, about 12 from 14K feet...and then lost my nerve. I walked away from it. That said, I totally get base jumping and why people do it. Amazing video.
amazing.. so beautiful. the beginning when they all jumped it reminded me of the movie the happening when all the bodes fell
yeah these guys rock, im starting my AFF course later this year, so maybe one day ill get the chance to join these guys, who knows.
that is one big cliff. the video is intense! i thought one guy was going to hit he mountain.
omg that song is so awesome they should release that song as a single or like post it somewhere idk but its really good
usually they reccomend 200 skydiving jumps and then make mates with some experienced bas jumpers. It is not a commercial sport like skydiving.
Very cool, nice choice of sound track.
LOL at 4:00
"yep just popping to the shops for some milk" LOL!!!!!!
these fellows are extremly cool! jumping is crazy! respect!
Classic vid...dunno how many times i've watched this now :)
Nice video,Nice Jumps. Congratulations!
Thanks mate!! Much apperciated.
I think I'm going to have a heart attack just watching. I've been skydiving, but this is just insane!
must be the most freaking awsome feeling in the world.
fantastic vid
Such a sick video! Footage is amazing
cris92faur -
The more I ponder the possibility of a wingsuit-water landing without a parachute, the more intriuged I am with the various challenges posed by the possibility. It's a complicated and amazing thought. But to answer your question, I do NOT know whether, given the present state of equipment, a wingsuit water landing without a chute is theoretically possible.
Those people have balls of steel, either that or they're raving mad or both!

these guys have the best lives
Bestiallllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA! That must've been fun. So crazy, I could never do it.
yeah this was really crazy, nice mix with music too.....
Oh man, totally came here from the AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! site. And I thought the game made my stomach feel funky, this video is ridiculous!
It's amazing!!! I want there!!!
I don't know, but it definitely looks like an "Oh shit!" moment anyway. :-D
I know that glide performance in the best wing suit is above 3:1. My question is at what rate of descent is that number achieved? What are the forward speeds? What is the minimum descent speed achievable trading speed for a flat glide? With these questions I'm really leading to this final question: Has anybody attempted a wing-suit landing in/on the water without deploying their chute?
the song is snoopy doggy dawg - drop it like its hot
and then he realizes he left the room key back inside...
This is my dream, and one day I'll made it
You can hit the wall several times AFTER the chute is open...having a helmet might be helpfull in that situation.
write norwegian blue in the searchbar. He's taking a first basejump course..a good video also.
top notch boys. You should do it snowboarding.
WOW THAT LOOKS AWSUME!
Wonderfull!
the age old saying goes that "its only illegal if you get caught" !
first of all, its 'certified'
second of all, you need a skydiving licence, which in aus costs about 5000 to get, plus another 5000+ to buy your own rig.
and base jumping is very illegal almost everywhere.
1:48 "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!"
fuck yeah man!
Thank you i thought i was posting the comment for the wind turbine clip but thanks i was wondering the name of that song also
OMG I'm terrified just watching!!!
I first saw this video was 2001. Forgot from which site/Kazaa. It is like watching Faces Of Death, but with cool background music.
Most probably, I'll never do BASE jump. I have seen too many still picture that have bodies falled from building. Not good too look at.
3:44 and the last one are awesome......
Go sign up for AFF at your nearest skydiving dropzone. Get about 150-200 skydives and then sign up for a BASE jumping FJC.
Your dreams are never out of reach...
its called Voluntary Sacrifice, by Yelp, strong, uh?
Nice looks cool
Awesome vid!!!!
thats Voluntary Sacrifice by YELP
well I can grasp from the mountains and so on...but that last guy...from that narrow fuckin window....JESUS!
the more I see the less I understand that last jump....OMFG!
of course, only people from Seattle could be crazy enough for this...
Nice
The act of BASR jumping isn't illegal in its self but most Governments ban people from leaping off their buildings, see A J Hakett getting arrested for bungie jumping from the Eiffle tower.
I have to try this.
I want to go there!!!
awsome vid
white wingsuit you can go 40 km/h verticaly and up to 150 km/h horizontaly. i do not think anyone could survive a water landing..
Yelp -Voluntary sacrifice . if you find it somewhere let me know .
this is a clip from a video called first base. if you like it you can order it online.
nope..thats "Voluntary Sacrifice" by Yelp
nice. cheers
Sometimes it looks like they're gunna hit the mountain side. I think ya need alot more balls to base jump compared with skydiving.
soon to join you guys..
1 question...how many jumps should you have to do base..
this is much harder...
yelp-sacrifice
the last one....the window.....Oh my God man....what the hell was that? beautiful skill and real but I mean REAL GUTS right there! Fuck that. INSANE!
LMAO that would just be floating down.. you'd have to have the paraglider out before you jumped...
INSANE!!!!!!!! But not as much as tow in!!!
hey thats Voluntary Sacrifice, by YELP....awesome, uh?
the artist is Rekleiner
track name - the state me things
get it from itunes..
lol he jumped out his window?!? damn..... im going to try that :D!!!!
OMG! This is KICKASS!! I have to do this before I die XD
it's amazing !!!
Skydiving is definitely a safe sport. BASE jumping, not so much. There's just so many other varibles that must be taken into account that can kill you. However, with both sports, you must focus on getting trained properly. Above all, complacency is what will kill you, and has killed many jumpers in the past.
the guy at 2:30 was huging that wall man
YELP - voluntary sacrifice !
y i have got to try this out before i die like, it looks f****n mint!!!!!
nice vid!
was the last guy late for work?? therefore jumping out the window to save time in the elevator..
I feel the same.
i thought the guy at 2:07 was gonna die...lol
Chicks will think you're the coolest if you BASE jump.
sweet video! =]
Where are those mountains???
I wish I could do that, but I'm too young. (apparently)
It takes some serious nerve to do this stuff!
most of the video is taken in Norway.
Which? The opening scene is Norway
