Super is based on the story of the Monkey King known as 손오공, Sun Wukong (The original Chinese name from Journey to the West) and Son Goku (Japanese Anime adaptation - Dragonball).
The lyrics, costume, styling and choreography took inspiration from the story as well. For example the move where they look like they cloned themselves. As a nerd who followed the drama adaptation of Journey to the West where the story originated, as well as growing up watching Dragon Ball, I was absolutely thrilled when they released this song!! 😂
Also the last line from Woozi 'This is the cartoon end song' ties into Son Goku and DB; basically his whole last verse is for Goku/DB lol The8 actually pronounces it the original way in Chinese (Sun Wukong) while other members use the korean Son O Gong pronounciation :D I also really like the Monkey King story and character, though I only really know him from my uni Chinese studies, and before that from several manhwa (where I leaned about the cloud, the pole, the cloning) :))

"Super" has a LOT of references to "Dragon Ball". The Monkey King rides on a cloud, carries a staff (pole) that goes to the sky, puts two fingers to his forehead to teleport, calls on the people of the earth to raise their voices as one and release a powerful cry into the heavens to defeat evil (thus Woozi's performance at the end with everyone throwing their hands up as if throwing energy in one united big ball of energy to destroy darkness), etc. It's how the anime/cartoon ends. Sonongong always wins!
"Super" is also a response to FML (F*ck or Fight [for my/your] Life). You see a monkey drawn on the mirror in crayon during Hoshi's scene when he sings about wishing as a child he could be the super hero of the cartoons he used to watch. There's a LONG story behind FML...so please be sure to watch it.
HOT was my first introduction to the entire group (CHEERS was the first time I heard SCoups, Hoshi and Woozi) and as you can see, its the best introduction. I can suggest you songs to look upto next but all their songs are bangers so yall can decide that yourself. They have various perfomance versions of each song as well. Would highly recommend watching choreography video of all three songs (off camera is okay). Also Sonogong is chinese mythical monkey king or the protagonist of anime Dragon Ball, so a lot of lyrics and choreo moves have reference to the show. Also imp, svt has hands down THE best variety show out there. I actually became a carat because of GoSe. I am super hyped for you two, my fav reactors reacting to my ult group.
The background chant is DK saying, "Fight-ti-ting! Fight-ti-ting!"...a tip of the hat to BSS's "Fighting" song, and what Seventeen has ALWAYS said before going on stage. Kinda like "break a leg" in theater, but "Fighting!" in music.

I started following when you first got into ENHYPEN and now I'm so excited you're getting into SEVENTEEN!! Their songs are no skips, absolute bagers! I would suggest hearing Anyone, Heaven Cloud, Fear, Darling, _WORLD, Cheers, Kidult, Pretty U and 2 MINUS 1 to name a few. Also, I would totally recommend watching GOING SEVENTEEN (maybe the 2020 version on since it's a lot)! Looking forward to the reactions :)

SEUNGKWAN IS GOING OFF IN THE BACK!! (in Hot, thank youuuu for hearing him!) Also the album Hot is on is called Face the Sun - so all the sun references and whatnot. Oh but you DID make sense, it was cool - actually you mentioned things I hadn't noticed or heard other people mention before. Well I've THOUGHT about the Icarus thing before, but I haven't heard anyone talk about it - not saying they haven't, but I haven't seen it myself! It's cool you both seem really actually very observant and pick up on so much without any direct reference to things you know about Seventeen or other videos or anything that is sooooo awesome.

Glad you enjoyed their songs 😊 Seventeen is a group where the genre is Seventeen themselves. You will see how they literally grew up through their songs esp how woozi improved over time but still maintaining what he has the best which is "feeling/emotions". You felt their passion through hot and super. Then you felt the love and longing in rwy. That's what's amazing bout woozi he delivers the message he wants the listeners to feel directly.
imo seventeen is really the most talented group in kpop no one can perform like them just insanee🔥
what i love abt seventeen is that even tho there r so many members but still they manage to have fair line and screen distribution so that everyone can shine ..which is very rare even for a gorup with 6-7 members
Haha I laughed in the first part when you said "SUPER Saiyan" when talking about the songs you were going to listen to because I don't think I would have occurred to you that Super is ACTUALLY inspired by Dragon Ball and the original chinese myth Journey to the West that it's based off of. The Korean title SONOGONG is the character of the monkey king that goku was based on and you can see a TONNNNN of dragon ball references in the choreography. Woozi is a huge weeb lol.
Also, the 8 was injured here and recovering from a broken collarbone so that's why he only had a brief (BUY HIGHLY IMPACTFUL) part.

Hot is one that made it onto my playlist early when I first started listening to kpop (pretty much started with BTS, added SKZ, and this song was part of the playlist). Granted, now I'm mainly just listening to SKZ, but Hot is so good. I got into SKZ with Circus, and the beatbox part in Hot reminded me of that a lot. I just loooooove that. The choreo when they did "hot hot hot hot" is just so mesmerizing to watch.

I commented in the first video before it got cut but I was basically saying this :Wow, the timing !! I just started to dive into seventeen like 5 days ago (it was 2 days when the first video came out) and now i have my favourite kpop stans that started reacted to them.
I actually went to check the group because of the solo releases of the member jun limbo and psycho that are connected and they are just crazy good (if you could maybe check them out later on once you'll learn more about the group) like everything that I heard from seventeen at this point ! svt songs are just soo good I've always listened to them since about before skz but chose to learn more about skz cause the amount of members was overwhelming then but now I'm glad I'll learn more about each individual in depth yayy, their instrumentals have always been immaculate
Really enjoyed watching your first reaction to seventeen!! I started following in them over a year ago and they just sucked me in and now they're my ult group. Svt as you may have heard is known as a self producing group and synchronization kings, people also call them the theater kids of Kpop lol . Their music doesn't really fit one box since they experimented with a bunch of different genres. I know a lot of people have recommended a bunch of songs so I won't list my favorites because that would basically be their entire discography lmao. Honestly one thing I will say is that you guys should definitely react to the dance practices when reacting to a mv because their choreography is absolutely insane.

Glad you enjoyed their music!! Love how detailed and genuine you are abt these reactions! So the album that Super is from has two Title Tracks one is Super and the other is F**k My Life... The album is called FML. the MV for F**k My Life is more like a regular Kpop MV.. It would be great if you would react to that.. The other songs I recommend are Dont Wanna Cry, Very Nice, Fear, and Fallin' Flower(this MV is so aesthetically pleasing U HAVE TO WATCH IT).. All these songs are pretty different concept wise so I guess it will give you an idea of their music.. I would highly recommend their dance practices.. Ngl U would be doing yourself a disservice if you don't watch their dance practices.

Sonogong is the Korean way to say Sun Wukong which is who Goku (also known as Son Goku) is based off of. I actually chuckled when one of you said Super Saiyan and was hoping you'd pick up on some of the DBZ references like the kamehameha and flying around on the cloud plus one of the moves kinda looks like it could be instant transmition or special beam canon. They reference both the Chinese story and DBZ throughout the song and choreo and I just think it's so cool, you can tell they really put a lot of thought into it. I absolutely recommend checking out their dance practices! They are beyond satisfying to watch!!! Despite 'Super' mostly being a choreography video there are still a lot of things that you might find you have missed or they weren't shown quite as clearly and seeing everything with that fixed camera getting the whole picture is just an amazing experience. Can't wait for you guys to do the guide videos but I understand it will take some time! I just know you're going to fall in love with them all!! Whether you upload it in parts or as a whole is entirely up to you but if you did do it as a whole I can guarantee that despite how long it is, CARATs will watch it for sure! We never mind long videos! That website you read their little descriptions on didn't even really touch on half of how talented these boys really are, your minds will be blown!! Plus it will be so fun for you to see what their personalities are like!

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. I like the chorus in this song but the whole thing did not work for me on 1st listen. Like it's not balanced to me. Which is basically me not being able to find a rhythm. It's all about the rhythm to me. Rock with You is my fav from them. So bloody catchy. I knew about Minghao (The8) before i got really into them. Everyone loved him in this MV, lol. The8 has such a unique face to me it doesn't matter the hair color. I will recognise him, np. Also, many bias him lol. I hear yelling of his name often in reactions, LMAO. Woozi recently said that it was the company who gives them their parts. ✨ It's wild but makes sense. =0} They have been getting noticed more. Their fandome is growing. So agree they are currently hot, lol. I think they are proud and happy at their growth. Darling is a song of theirs. Not sure if it came before this one or after. Icarus reference here. Glad u spotted it. I remember on 1st watch I noticed Jeonghan holding the wings. Back than i had no idea who he was. all right I'm back cause I had to watch an editor break the transitions in the mv down for me after you broke down the meaning and I wanted to point out a few things, first the DARLING idk if anyone noticed it (I absolutely did not) but the bullet that goes through the heart hands hits the L in DARLING and the word becomes DARING instead. I screamed!! this is really one of those mad mvs we need to go frame by frame to process the details. There's a frame of a zoomed in shot of the coin they kept tossing around and you can read the embossed legend on it and it says: bet your tomorrow on the sun of fate. Also the way I see it with this concept is that they're embodying the SUN in every aspect: they're daring, playing with fire/danger, embracing risk even dancing with death (the skeleton) and the fuming bullet in Vernon's mouth etc until they reach the end of the mv and the fake sun that was behind them loses its fire (cause they've absorbed it) and its true form is revealed (it burns out and the fans appear) and then we see the real sun and a seventeen member grabs it and the rest is history.
Good reaction(Super), ty. The song is catchy. Love the choreo. Like the tradition hanbok fits. Also like the sleeveless shirts. =0p Liked the traditional instruments in the mix. Liked the message of the song. I watched the MV after I saw Suga's interview with Woozi. He was so proud of this song and the album in general. He really worked hard. They all did. =0} I think i spotted my Hoshi but it was hard. Vernon looked good. Woozi i like better with shorter hair. It looks better with his face structure to me.

At 7:25 That is Joshua and the other one that has long hair like him is Jeonghan. 8:06 That is The8 (Minghao) who actually had a fractured collar bone while filming this which is why they changed his choreo a bit and he kept that one hand in his pocket which ended up looking cool af! 9:42 their names from left to right, I'll start with the crouched people who are: Jeonghan, Dino, The8, Woozi, S.Coups, and Seungkwan. Goku’s character is inspired by Sonogong, the Monkey King- the Journey to the west.
There’s a lot of references(choreography & lyrics) form Dragon Ball and the Journey to the west:

6. Shadow clones(dancers behind the members in the last formation) from the mythology of Journey to the West
7. “This is the cartoon’s credit song”-They make sure to end the song letting us know that this is an homage to the cartoon(captions)
