Thanks for the excellent tutorials. As you noted, using the loft feature to complete the nose/tail is challenging. I tried a simple Form Cylinder and after putting the patch on the end, added the spline. The loft failed with invalid direction error. I found that using Surface Patch worked. As you noted, there is a geometry limit on the spline. If it is too big, even the Patch fails. thanks Edit. At 16:24, I bring attention that the line connecting the two points must also be selected. This ensures that there is a closed boundary. As I was not sure that my canvas/cylinder was on the midplane of the plane, I selected Construct/Plane at Angle. I then selected the line (between the two points) and entered 90 deg. I then created a sketch on this new plane. Again Thanks!

Hi Javier, thank you so much for your kind words. Really means a lot and it helps me make more of these videos. Would love to see some of your designs!
Great tutorial, I'm modelling a xc-142 in fusion at the moment this. This video helps a lot, I'm struggling with some of my lofts, fusion keeps saying that they are self intersecting, but I can't work out why. I have got around this by spliting the nose horizontally.
Hey Mark, thanks for sharing that trick. There are some cases where the intersections happen which are difficult to find out right away. I usually try out different shapes and side profiles until they are good to go! Let me know how you're getting along :)
very good tutorial, you deserve much more success, continue like this, it is certain that your efforts will be rewarded. thank you also for the way you speak in English. a Frenchman like me understands most of it thanks to your perfect elocution, your calm and a speech delivered with calm and slowness; perfect for a Frenchman.
Hello can you help? I did everything right but when I get to that part of minute 4:45 from creating the cylinder to 'edit shape' and it starts to extrude the edges, it doesn't come out the same as yours... instead of creating a new edge it just keeps stretching... when I press ALT the thing to move the edge becomes transparent
I had a lot of trouble trying to create the nose and the back of the fusilage by following the step-by-step instructions. I didn't succeed... However, I spent 1 day to find another way and I was able to proceed, now it's time to go to step 3. Thx, sorry for my english
Hi first of all thanks a lot for the video, really helped me out! I had a small difficulty in lofting the surfaces at the tail end and kept getting this warning "The loft would flow in an invalid direction. Try adjusting the continuity settings. If two adjacent profiles are on the same plane, try moving one of these." How do I fix it ?
Ultra useful tips and very good video. Perhaps the best on the topic. I specially like the techique of extruding one section at a time for the fuselage
Thank you so much for uncovering this new workspace for me! I was trying to make a plane for a few weeks now and just now did you show me how to do it! thank you so much!
That's the best Tutorial I've ever seen I designed a Boeing 747 and now I am trying to design a L-39 Albatros but its so hard because the Fuselage has many roundings and corners. I think I have to give up that project its to hard for my skills now do you have any tips for me?
That sounds like a really cool project! Well done on the Boeing 747. The L39 does seems a little different from the fuselages we've designed, however I think you can still apply the same techniques! Just split the fuselage up into more pieces and you should be good to go :)

Hey can I know how to like when your extruding the cylinder . Stop making the whole cylinder from being manipulated? I'm intruding the end part but the whole cylinder os getting affected by it and it's spoiling the design, I use the online version. Thank you
Hey! Great point. Since our view is Orthographic, it doesn't matter how far the images are from our view, we'll always see them in the same proportion. If you wish to build a self-intersecting shape, try building the shape using multiple lofts." Had been doing it a few times but I could only loft half of the section. Not sure why it is so. Please advise.
Couldn't remember it well but what i did was that I went back to the timeline to redo it again, removing the sketch and draft again, still puzzle on what I had done wrong or right.. Lol
Can't make the loft on 19:07. Getting errors: Error: The operation failed. Try adjusting the values or changing the input geometry. Error: Cannot create tool body for loft. and Error: Closed profiles can not be coplanar for a loft.
Incredible helpful tutorial series!! What do you think is the best way to create the fuselage of the Airbus BelugaXL? I've used the Sweep function (instead of the cylinder you used) to create the cross shape on the XZ plane and a straight path parallel to the Y-axis as a rail. However I find it pretty difficult to create the complex shape of the nose and tail fuselage parts with just the two handles to manipulate the cross section. Any help would be appreciated!
Ah yes that's quite an interesting one! The first way that comes to mind is to split the fuselage into 2 sections vertically as well. So you can follow the normal "airliner" shape using the cylinder way I've shown in this tutorial. Then, add another free form body that takes the shape of the "bulgy" part of the fuselage, and add it on top of the main fuselage. Refer to my Helicopter series where I do something similar! Let me know how you get along!
The plane I want to build is the Tecnam P2012 the fuselage is kind of square with rounded edges. Can I still use the cylinder method to create that shape?
Hey! In that case I recommend using the box shape to start with. You can have a look at my Helicopter series where I make the fuselage in that manner :)
hi the tutorial are really nice but I tried to loft nose part 7-8 but all the time it says the same thing that it intersects something like that can you please help me
Great tutorial!! Thanks for taking the time. I have one question, When you are modelling the nose, the cross-section is not round or oval, but it has a specific shape that you didn't follow maybe for ease of explaining. Is it possible to edit the first station of the cylinder of the main fuselage to match the nose cone shape, and from there to the loft? The shape is more like a triangular shape distinctive of the 737. As for the tail, the section where the stabilizer matches de fuselage should be flat, can we edit single sections of the cylinder to make them flat? BEST REGARDS
Hi Cristian, you are right. For simplicity, I didn't model the triangular shape. You can change each span station of the fuselage. Your method could work! You could loft the circular section of the main fuselage with a triangular section for the nose, and add some rails during the loft to guide it properly. As for the rear end, I'm sure you can edit each section in the T-Spline (free form) workspace. Let me know how it goes!
At 9:08 you're completing the fuselage demo. You keep saying it "looks good"... but what If you need exact dimensions or curvatures ? Example' the line on the top of the cylinder keeps getting adjusted but its supposed to remain exactly horizontal while the belly curves upward. How do you know the top of the plane is exactly horizontal after adjusting ? What if this was a cad drawing for manufacture. "looking good' isn't enough.
Hi Shawn, as I said in the first tutorial, this series is meant to be an easy step by step tutorial for everyone to follow on. I also mentioned that if you want to go into more detail, you can use these tutorials as a basic foundation to build upon. If you require more accuracy, then you can look up how to use the basic tools in more details. For example, when you're talking about keeping the top of the fuselage horizontal, you can look into how to get better at using T-Splines and use those advanced techniques on top of what I've already shown here. I tried to keep these tutorials as generic and easy as possible for everyone to follow, not to turn someone into a pro. I hope you understand and appreciate the time and effort that has gone into these videos. Take care

Can please help with the part about extruding from 7:26. I have extruded it viewing from the side, then clicked on the top view and adjusted the extrusion there, but when I go back to the side view, it has adjusted it there also. I cant get it to adjust the top view without it moving the side view extrusion as well. Thanks.
Hi Mike, looks like you might be clicking on the wrong button while extruding! Pleas ensure you're clicking on the same buttons as I am in the video :)
Hey! In that case I recommend using the box shape to start with. You can have a look at my Helicopter series where I make the fuselage in that manner :)
Hello, what do you think would be an error I did while creating the spline and loft? I’ve rewatched the video multiple times and went step by step, but every time I loft, it does not create that shape. Instead it tells me I have an illegal shape, and that it will intersect itself at 90 degrees. If you could, respond with any help you could other, thank you!
Hi there, I've encountered this problem a couple of times and I'm still unsure why that happens. To fix it, I usually try different shapes and edit the side profiles till it works. Hope this helps!
At 6:40 how did you get the top end to move vertically up and down without the ends curling in or out? When I tried moving the large plus shaped thing, it just curved both ends in. How do I move the end circle
Hey! I'm not sure what you mean. I think you might have scaled the body in, instead of moving it. Use the arrows for moving and the little lines for scaling :)
I just had a look at the F-20 and it does seem quite complex. Looks like an interesting challenge. I'm thinking of doing a UA-cam live stream with the F-20 as a challenge. That way I'll be problem solving in front of everyone. Would you be interested in seeing that?
Hi Simon. Apologies for the late response, I've got exams coming up! Does this happen when you're trying to loft the nose / back end of the fuselage? If yes, try adding some rails to the profiles while lofting it. It helped me! Let me know if that helps. If you need further assistance, do reach out :)
Hi Gautam, are you able to start a new sketch on the front surface? If not, chances are your surface isn't flat. You need a flat surface in order to create a sketch. Let me know if that makes sense! Feel free to ask more if you need any help.
Any ideas for making the fuselage hollow/shell again or is it better not patch and stitch to leave the fuselage as a surface from the start. When I tried to shell, I came up with errors.
Hi Cameron! Using the shell option on a complex geometry like this one can lead to problems very quickly, indeed. I do think leaving it as a surface and adding a thickness to it (there's an option for that!) would be better? Do try it out and let me know if it worked, looking forward to it.
Hi Lozzie, I am not fully sure why, but I find that sometimes, depending on the geometry, it may or may not work. It may also have to do with over constraining geometry :)
When I sketch and trim the first line on the face where the nose cone will be (@14:50), the circle isn't split for selection? Any ideas? Great series by the way :)
Hi Pixel Rabbit, sorry for the super late response - just finishing my final year at uni. Regarding your problem, did you sketch on the correct plane? You want to sketch on the same plane as the front of the surface, that's where the circle's geometry lies. Alternatively, you could create a new plane on that same surface, start a sketch and PROJECT that circle onto the new sketch. After all, you only need the geometry of the circle to loft. Let me know if that helps. Feel free to ask more if that wasn't clear :)
Please can someone help. I am attempting to model a HP42modellin. The fuselage I think needs to be in three parts Rear, Cabin and Nose I have modelled the Cabin shelled it and cut the windows. I then Lofted of of the rear of the Cabin to a sketch of the tail cross section. Now I come to the Nose, I have projected the front cross section onto a new plane, I can then draw the side profile but I need to project a couple of points back onto the Nose cross section . I can see the two sketches but when I try to edit the nose section sketch the fuselage side sketch disappears. I have a couple of other sketches ie windscreen and I can see multiple sketches just not the one I created off the projection WHY?
Hey Laurie - thanks for reaching out! Thanks for the detailed explanation to your problem. Try this: 1) Make the front cross section first (the projection of the front of the fuselage). In the folder tree, rename this sketch to "FrontProfile" 2) Create a NEW sketch on the side, this is where you draw the nose section from the right side. Make sure your "FrontProfile" sketch is still visible. Project the point you want from from FrontProfile onto this new sketch. Once you're done, rename this new sketch to "SideProfile". 3) Once you're done, make sure that BOTH SKETCHES are visible in the folder tree. The little light bulb icon should be on :) Try this, if this doesn't work, send me a message via textheexperience.com/contact
Great question! To be honest, you could do solid as well. I found that at time the solid doesn't work for some reason, but using the surface mode and patching it after works!
@@TEXDesignEngineering I have a serious question about the design process of aircrafts, as you are an aerospace engineer, you are the right person to ask
Is this also how boeing, airbus etc does it? of course, it can not be as simple or approximated-to-blueprint as this, but at the very least, the surface modelling phase, before all the details, is this at least near how it's done? just out of curiosity I'm asking, as I'm also an engineer but not aerospace.

Hi Mike, looks like you might be clicking on the wrong button while extruding! Pleas ensure you're clicking on the same buttons as I am in the video :)
@@TEXDesignEngineering Thanks, all sorted, I was indeed pressing the wrong button.
Molto interessante. Grazie
Grazie mille!
Can dims be added and then altered to suit?
What if the fuselage is more square with rounded ages? can I stil use cylinder than manipulate?
Also could you do a tutorial modeling an f-20 tigershark or similar jet, because the shape of the fuselage is very complex.
Help. What do i do when it says "Error: Closed profiles can not be coplanar for a Loft."?
Hi Simon. Apologies for the late response, I've got exams coming up!
Does this happen when you're trying to loft the nose / back end of the fuselage? If yes, try adding some rails to the profiles while lofting it. It helped me!
Let me know if that helps. If you need further assistance, do reach out :)
I am Unable to sketch on the front circle if any one could help.
i am modeling b777
Why did the tangent commands on the tail piece not work? This command worked on the nose underside.
Hi Lozzie, I am not fully sure why, but I find that sometimes, depending on the geometry, it may or may not work. It may also have to do with over constraining geometry :)
Please am encountering a problem that's at the lofting the front part they are saying I should try adjusting the continuity settings
Sorry to hear that. Any luck now?
@@TEXDesignEngineering thanks for the reply, yeah I was doing something dumb. Hope Uni went well. Bet it's a first :)
Try this:
1) Make the front cross section first (the projection of the front of the fuselage). In the folder tree, rename this sketch to "FrontProfile"
2) Create a NEW sketch on the side, this is where you draw the nose section from the right side. Make sure your "FrontProfile" sketch is still visible. Project the point you want from from FrontProfile onto this new sketch. Once you're done, rename this new sketch to "SideProfile".
3) Once you're done, make sure that BOTH SKETCHES are visible in the folder tree. The little light bulb icon should be on :)
Try this, if this doesn't work, send me a message via textheexperience.com/contact
Good training program beta. Go ahead.
Thank you master ji
When I extrude, it doesn't create more length lines(lines across the cylinder) and when I scale down, it starts shrinking from way to far back.
bro i can make fusalage can u help me out?
Can you model an F18 by McDouglas?
Hey! As a video or as a project for you?
14:58 doesnt work for me, any suggestions? The area doesn't split into two
Hi Fabjulian, you must ensure that you create the sketch on the same plane as the surface you wanted to split! Let me know if that works.
Why do you loft in surface mode rather than in solid mode?
Great question! To be honest, you could do solid as well. I found that at time the solid doesn't work for some reason, but using the surface mode and patching it after works!
I can't create the loft it's say "Error: cannont create tool body for loft" :(
Hi One Guy, this is a pretty common problem people are facing so I'll try to make a dedicated video for this. Have you found a solution so far?
@@TEXDesignEngineering heyyy even I too got the same error, how to resolve this.
how can i thank you man

@@TEXDesignEngineering I have a serious question about the design process of aircrafts, as you are an aerospace engineer, you are the right person to ask
Is this also how boeing, airbus etc does it? of course, it can not be as simple or approximated-to-blueprint as this, but at the very least, the surface modelling phase, before all the details, is this at least near how it's done? just out of curiosity I'm asking, as I'm also an engineer but not aerospace.
18:56 am having issues here when I select second surface it says " warning the loft would intersect itself " then i click 3rd surface it says " error cannot create surface from selected geometry"
Plz help
Hey Yash, have you been able to solve this issue?
@@TEXDesignEngineering I have de same issue
i want to cry 21:00 it’s not cuttiiinngg
When you say cut, do you mean splitting the circular section in half?
