Actually, the best live version of this was done by Shirley Alston Reeves from the PBS "My Music" special. Unfortunately, they took it down! However, this one of Shirley (who sang lead on it to begin with) singing it live still remains: ua-cam.com/video/bxGVV-he3Lo/v-deo.html
Your Mom was a member of one of my all time favourite girl bands and recorded, probably, my all time favourite song.... a classic slice of pure pop music which encapsulated a moment in time forever.... God bless Doris Coley Kenner.. she left us far too soon..
What a great treasure to discover ,, here :))) I wasn't born when, this great song & the wonderful singers gave life to it ,, but my wonderful Irish Grandmothe , who loved all music had so many of the oldies ,, in her Record collection .. I was able to play a few before going Overseas , but my Sister & I cataloughed them , never got the opportunity to listen to many of them ... It has been a honour to see this this on you tube & to hear them sing this great song !!! :))).....
It still sounds good and the big thing they didnt change it for the times. They left it the same and thats what I love about it , a classic. If you have a good thing dont change it.
david e robinson THis is DOris Kenner-Jackson singing lead. She was one of the orgnal Shirelles. She is leading her own Shirelles groupwhen this was filmed. THere were two othe Shirelles groups by this point.
The lead singer here is Beverley Lee, an original member of the Shirelles, but she could not hold a candle to the great Shirley Owens who truly made this song sound so wonderful!
Is Shirley Owens the original singer for this huge monster hit. the other versions the singers may be from the group BUT they sing out of key... really flat!!! The original singer is on the actual video....tragically the one with the least youtube hits!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even though the late Doris (Coley) Kenner Jackson did not sing lead on this hit classic, this stands as a great tribute to that other golden voice of The Shirelles, who, not only sang lead on "Dedicated" but ""Welcome Home Baby,""The Dance Is Over" their versions of "Ooo Poo Pa Doo"and "My Prayer" and some other powerful album cuts.
On this day in 1961 {February 21st} the Shirelles performed "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand' Exactly three months earlier on November 21st, 1960 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on Jan. 30th it peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} and spent 19 weeks on the Top 100 Was preceded and succeeded at #1 by instrumentals; "Wonderland by Night" by Bert Kaempfert {#1 for 3 weeks} and "Calcutta" by Lawrence Welk {also #1 for 3 weeks} RIP Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}
Original member is Doris Colley Kenner who was the second lead singer of the Shirelles, she sang lead in their third big million seller Dedicated To The One I Love and some of the best B-sides of all times The Dance Is Over. Blue Holiday and (Pretty Words) the things I want to Hear.
She's the original Shirelle. I believe she died some years ago from cancer. She was the voice with the original grouping when she sang lead on "Dedicated to the One I Love" and she also did a great job on the song "Blue Holiday." She had the more soulful voice out of the other three. I am not sure what happened around this time with her singing the group's song with these ladies, but who knows. That's show business for you.
Shirley Owens Singer Shirley Alston Reeves is an American soul singer who was the lead member of the hit singing group the Shirelles. Wikipedia Born: June 10, 1941 (age 73), Henderson, NC Education: Passaic High School Music group: The Shirelles (1957 - 1975) Siblings: Barbara Alston Record labels: Bell Records, Scepter Records, RCA Records, Decca Records
Actually the only original member is the woman singing lead. Her name is Doris Kenner, but not the original lead singer on this song, her name is Shirley Alston. The ladies singing background for Doris are from the former girl groups: The Honeycone and The Blossoms.
Doris was the original lead on the Shirelles' "Dedicated to the One I Love." Much different voice than Shirley, but talented in her own way. Shirley is still rockin', by the way- saw her in Virginia last year and she was fantastic.
Beverly Lee isn't the "lone original still performing", unless you mean under the banner of the "Shirelles". Shirley Alston Reeves is still alive and well, still performing, and really is THE voice of most of the Shirelles' hits.
Okay, but this version 40 years later ain't nearly in the same league as the version now up on UA-cam, a complete video of an early sixties performance. Put this in the little search window and click: v8JixX1FD14 It's a young girl's song anyway. I'm as nostalgic as anyone, but I want the real thing and that there vid IS ALL THAT. Yes indeed, the original singing quartet with Shirley's unique voice (now vanished) were sublime.
Doris, doing the lead here left us as did Adele Micky Harris. The original lead singer, Shrirley Alston and Beverly still ara dong their thing with two diferent groups, they are not singing together.
Who is THE original singer of this wonderful song... the one on the actual black and white youtube video is the only one who sounds like her and sings in TUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is very amusing,to read the silly writings from some peoples here!(eolefan and LilyHarkness) For me the music is important, and not poeple with profilneurotics, haha!
I am so confused. How many Shirelles groups are there? Beverly Lee owns the copyright after suing to establish her ownership. So the only legitimate group would be The Shirelles starring Beverly Lee. Shirley Alston Reeves tours under her own name as former lead singer of the group. Is this like the various Supremes groups? Will there be a "Sounds of the Shirelles" group soon?
+cleoharvey No. Considering the other two Shirelles have passed away, there's no way to have a complete lineup of the Shirelles anymore. At least these girls have at least one original member. Shirley left to go solo and performs less frequently now, so Beverly is the only one to carry on the group name.
Not a bad cover version, but how can they call themselves "The Shirelles" without Shirley? It's like Gary Puckett & The Union Gap without Gary Puckett or The Chantels without Arlene Smith or Creedence Clearwater Revival without John Fogarty. By the way, the song's real title is "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" If you have any doubts, check the cover of Carole King's Tapestry album.
Lead singer hear is Doris Kenner Jackson, who was one of the lead singers of the original Shirelles. . She did NOT, however, sing the lead to this song in its original version, Shirley Reeves did..

Still THE version to beat after almost fifty years!! Simply THE best. Wonderful, magical, great Shirelles.
Thank you so much for posting this.

fantastic....hits ya right in the heart
so emotional, years passing trough but talent still remain...i' m crying for that
I think her voice improved over the years. I guess even the best can get better.
It still sounds good and the big thing they didnt change it for the times. They left it the same and thats what I love about it , a classic. If you have a good thing dont change it.
You have to remember these people are much older now and the voices are not like they use to be. They did a great job
david e robinson THis is DOris Kenner-Jackson singing lead. She was one of the orgnal Shirelles. She is leading her own Shirelles groupwhen this was filmed. THere were two othe Shirelles groups by this point.
The lead singer here is Beverley Lee
@@crunchypeanut5616 that Beverly Lee that’s Doris lol
the best version.
Saw the Shirelles with Beverly Lee, the lone original still performing, on Friday August 22, 2008 in San Francisco, and they were stunning!
I'm only 2o but I grew up listening to them
You're like 33 now.😢
outstanding version. i'm impressed. At first, I was disappointed but this is great!
Thanks a lot for the time you took to make me aware! Great show though!
the y liek the supremes but the shirelles veterans that supremes!! i love this !!! legends!!
The lead singer here is Beverley Lee, an original member of the Shirelles, but she could not hold a candle to the great Shirley Owens who truly made this song sound so wonderful!

Harry Hatstand This isn't Beverly. This is Doris Kenner. Beverly sang the response in "Foolish Little Girl". ( She has a sweet girly voice. )
Wonderfull, Wonderfull, Wonderfull,
good music never dies thats good things for us younger people
i really love this song...it gives me the chills

Thank you Carole King for this masterpiece of music!!
Such a classic.
Forever ladies.
Original member is Doris Colley Kenner who was the second lead singer of the Shirelles, she sang lead in their third big million seller Dedicated To The One I Love and some of the best B-sides of all times The Dance Is Over. Blue Holiday and (Pretty Words) the things I want to Hear.
Best song ever...I LOVE IT.
Remember Jukeboxes?I loved these girls.Five cents back then.
1961. Same year of many hits. She wrote to me. But I never knew what she meant.
She's the original Shirelle. I believe she died some years ago from cancer. ADORABLE
My favourite version of this song
i've seen other versions and i like how it got slower in tempo over the years :D
Its definitely difficult to cover a song so iconic as this and make it your own, but I think Amy Winehouse did a fabulous job in her version.
The lady can still singer and she is still a looker.
Shirley Owens

Agreed, way to close to call, both outstanding
Beverly Lee isn't the "lone original still performing", unless you mean under the banner of the "Shirelles". Shirley Alston Reeves is still alive and well, still performing, and really is THE voice of most of the Shirelles' hits.

I'm as nostalgic as anyone, but I want the real thing and that there vid IS ALL THAT. Yes indeed, the original singing quartet with Shirley's unique voice (now vanished) were sublime.
Just to sum this up, this isn't a rendition because it IS the ORIGINAL!
@strandwolf I agree
@Iamedsmum Tell me about it! I can't believe that some folks think that dreary versions like that of Minnie Driver are better. smdh
Doris, doing the lead here left us as did Adele Micky Harris. The original lead singer, Shrirley Alston and Beverly still ara dong their thing with two diferent groups, they are not singing together.
Oh yes, I'm singing.
No Shirley, no Shirelles.

So who in this group is original Shirelle? Is this original lead singer?
I am so confused. How many Shirelles groups are there? Beverly Lee owns the copyright after suing to establish her ownership. So the only legitimate group would be The Shirelles starring Beverly Lee. You are quite right Ron ... Shirley added the "Still"
Carole King wrote it! Go carole.

below comments intended for boogiebaby94 .
like your breath
The Japanese occupation era?
Two of the original members are alive and two are not.
She should not smile singing this...
Can't be the ORIGINAL ... since it's NOT Shirley Alston Reeves singing the lead!
nice voice but sound..rhytm weirld....no touching,,,avarage version,,,too bad,,,she forgot it
This is not the original
absolutely out of rythm
Can't be the Shirelles's. Doesn't even sound or look like them.
Lead singer hear is Doris Kenner Jackson, who was one of the lead singers of the original Shirelles. . She did NOT, however, sing the lead to this song in its original version, Shirley Reeves did..
nemorable1 spelling above should be "here"
No ... the lead singer here is Beverley Lee. Doris died a long time before this clip
Harry Hatstand no this is DORIS here singing lead. she died later after this in 2001.
Actually the only original member is the woman singing lead. Her name is Doris Kenner, but not the original lead singer on this song, her name is Shirley Alston. The ladies singing background for Doris are from the former girl groups: The Honeycone and The Blossoms.
