Hey wako, It is an honor to see our strop in your video! The 0.5 micron is actually 1 micron. It equals 14.000 grit which is about the same as white compound (12.000 grit) so you are very correct. Diamond compound in my opinion starts shining on steels with harder carbides like powdered steels with a lot of vanadium in it. I too use white compound for my softer steels but feel like this diamond compound is superior for super steels. I also feel like 1 micron leaves a toothier edge with more bite which should be better for cutting deer skin for hunting. For us this compound is the only one so far we liked better than bark river compound. The 0.25 (100.000 grit) is indeed a real finisher after 1 micron. Especially nice for kitchen knives but often 1 micron or white compound will be enough. Glad you liked the strop! Happy 2019 and I hope your hunting season is good! Take care and all. The best.
I'm not even that interested in knife, I just love this guy. The way he's so calm and informative about knifes and the tests. It's a craft, and he's a master of it
Even after 4 times watching your videos I still learn. Each time a new window opens to my mind. My perception of sharpening. Yesterday I sharpened my BRKT CDPH to the point that it whittles a single hair.
Wako Dear Man, You're gone for a long time and I missed you, I missed the reviews of the sharpening stones and also the fishing videos in the streams and the sushi preparation, i miss you a lot. thank you Dear Man.
Hello Wako! Long time viewer of 8 years! Your videos are always a welcoming and relaxing part of my day. I hope to see more of your videos in the near future! Happy New Year!!
So glad to see you still posting. I was one of the first 10-15 people to follow you and watched your vids religiously. You used to post at such a high rate I kinda knew it wouldn’t last as it can be so much work. I’m very thankful when you find the time to still make vids. I wish you all the best
I think you make your knives look even more beautiful when you convex and sharpen them :) they look used but taken care of. I'm glad I started watching your videos more than 5 years ago and started learning to sharpen myself, I've become very good at it - just creating and removing a burr is very easy for me now and can be done in just a couple minutes, or I can relax and fully sharpen a dull or brand new knife in ¬20 minutes. Thank you Wako-san, hope you and your wife & daughter are doing well and happy new year!
Hello Virtouvice, Happy new year to you, not sure if you celebrate it over your way, but wish you and your family all the best for 2019, Yes how bout an update on your knife collection. Thanx for the good sharpening video, no one does it better than you. Cheerz from New Zealand.
i missed this kind of videos from you man! thanks!. BTW that tilting the blade but keeping it always perpendicular to the length of the stone is exactly how i was doing it (learned that from sharpening straight razors with smiley edge), to maintain the edge thickness uniform, glad to see i was not wrong :)

Welcome back good sir . I prefer the smooth side of the leather for stropping rather than the rough as in that dbk strop as you have to only sweep the blade in one direction when it's like that as you go against the grain half the time. Plus it gives a poorer edge in my opinion as you have loads of rough little peaks and troughs to deal with rather than smooth side leather. Also have you tried the blue compound called "smurf poo" in the UK. It's good to use before the white compound.
@@johnfadds6089 I find that you're right about an aspect of what you say as in over stropping , yeah it can round the edge but not if you use very light pressure and like I say also on a smooth side leather. I don't over cake the leather with compound either . Plus the stones have nothing to do with it and I know how to use waterstones lad, don't take the piss.

The next coarse stone of mine is Shapton 1k, which seems a little too coarse to restore these minor troubles. But as you mention the 2k grit is a little too fine for the job.

KAISER OUTDOORS Still not quite correct, the Peoples Republic of Commiefornia is, I believe, the official name.
The stropping sounds like you have the wrong angle. Usually the blade should be even flatter on the leather than on the stone. Sounds creepy.
What naguro stone did you use ?
