Amazing build, I was mesmerized watching you build it. I'd love to upgrade my small offset to something of this caliber.

Great use of an old compressor tank. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum last week 😎

That is an amazing build my Brother. I am guessing the paint color will be a nice Milwaukee red, white, black combination….👍🏻

Propeller wheel slot cut air intake on the door is a must 🍻

I'd probably put a lip around the top of that fire box and use it as a griddle plate. Leave a gap or notch somewhere to let grease drain. Nice build! 👍

Gonna be honest I didn’t have the patience to watch the whole video without skipping around… so I couldn’t imagine sand blasting for 5 hours haha. That’s a beast of a smoker. Hope you and your fam get to enjoy it for much longer than it took for you to make!

I understand, that’s the way I watch long videos too. I’m going to do a quick walk through video that should be more in the 5-10 minute range. Thanks! I’m smoking some wings on it right now 👍

Sir wonderfull build thanks for sharing it. I haunt the princess auto in Sudbury Ontario. My wife makes me give up my credit cards before we go in. Boys need to be watched over. For my first build I checked my ideas with feldons bbq calculater. The folks on built not bought on face book recomended it. It saved me a lot of time. I made a reverce flow out of an old 500 pound propane tank. I ended up putting a baffel between the fire box and cook chamber. Now you need to make home brew. Youll never get rid of family then. Be well.

I have a 60 gallon compressor tank and I have long intended to turn it into a smoker. Watching this I realized that it is a lot bigger project than I imagined. Some good ideas here. I might tackle it, after I knock out the list ahead of this.😅

I am never going to make one of those but loved watching you make it and the thought process behind each step. I find there is a lot of unconscious learning watching makers, things that I find myself doing but I don't know/remember where I picked it up, in this project I had a conscious learning as well - the trick with the paper on the pipe to get a straight cut is genius and I will use that. Thank-you.

Looks really good. I built mine over 10 years ago with two 55 gallon drums. I built my fire box out of thin sheet steel in an angle iron cube. I insulated the bottom with concrete and the top with rock wool. I think you will be fine with with 3/16" but would recommend fire bricks laid vertically in the firebox. Check out how they lay fire bricks inside a wood furnace, just weld an angle iron on the wall, put the vertical fire bricks in first, then put the floor in second. Mine being over 12 years old, I'd like to build a heavier one soon.

amazing build and great craftsmanship, a little advice from someone whos built two of these so far, grinding the paint off is a ball ache, i learnt that the first time around, stick to a chemical paint stripper, SOOO MUCH QUICKER

The thermal mass of a smoker like this definitely takes a lot of the guesswork out of temperature control. Pair it with some nice remote thermometer system for monitoring ambient and meat temp and it practically runs itself.

Jeremy you have that tool kit you use around the house still. If so, you should buy a Armytek Wizard C2 Pro Warm to toss in it. It is a great light to use as a work light and it is high CRI so you can also use it as a video light for your YT videos.

A plus to the horizontal surface on the firebox is the extra cooking or warming area, great for sauces, mops, etc.

I was going to build one of these about 10 years ago. Figured up the cost of materials and many many hours it just wasn’t worth it. I bought one lightly used off Craigslist for $300 and retail was $1200 new. I’ve smoked so many briskets, pork butts, turkeys, salmon, beef jerky, chicken etc. only gripe I have is mine burns a lot of wood. I should try to insulate or use firebricks to help with heat. Nice job and I bet you’re proud of your work!

You should build a fire grate to lift the fire off of the brick and it will be easier to clean it will burn better and put a vent close to the bottom of the door

When I saw you go from finishing the cut to grinding with a cut off disc I was going to come down here and mention how unsafe that is.
Then you learned the lesson yourself.

Should've made one of the handle mounts just a thru hole and the other threaded that way you could simply stick the handle thru the open end and thread it into the other end to affix it

You should have welded a lice of strapping to the inside of the tank allong the top for the lid to connect with when closed

Nicest smoker in the west. $500 in materials but I'd hate to add up the labour cost.

That's not a smoker. That's just a grill. If it were a smoker, there would be a plate separating the firebox throat from the cooking grill, closed on the box end, and only open on the opposite end. The chimney would be on the box end, and that will make the smoke and heat cover both sides of the meat.

    • @MasterBigBass
      @MasterBigBass 10 днів тому

Maybe IM reading this wrong but I think you are describing a reverse flow smoker. An offset smoker does not use this and there is always some degree of direct heat coming from the firebox
