We each may have a slightly different definition of how a guitar “sounds”. The selection and type of wood, age, style of bracing, builder’s approach will make a big difference. I don’t think any guitar plugged in sounds like it will unplugged. To my ears, the CF guitars don’t sound like guitars, and they look a bit like space ships. I travel often with my Martin. It would be refreshing to stop worrying about humidity, temperature etc etc. I’ve never had a guitar crack except an Ovation I had to ship from the east coast to Utah on a bus. I’m a fan of wood. It’s real. There’s something cool about real things.
Thanks for sharing your insights. I agree we may have our own framework and preferences for how a guitar sounds. I also agree that amplifying an acoustic can only approximate what it sounds like organically. The Carbon Fiber guitars have a 'sound' and it's not as organic as my acoustics. But I can get a very musically pleasing tone . The playability in challenging climate conditions offers a level of value that offsets the lack of purist acoustic tone. (for me, for "now") We will see how things go as time progresses but I've been gigging the Emerald X30 Carbon Fiber guitar steadily since I got it in September 2023.
Its difficult to find someone playing the Emerald guitars unplugged from home and not a studio, for those of us who mostly play at home. I liked the tunes you were playing.
Wow amazing. Given that I'm listening through apple air pods gen 2 pro i doubt I'm getting all the info. And I think this is more a problem for acoustics than electrics , but that aside.... The Collings wins for me. But I'd put the carbon fibers at 95% as good. And I expected a much larger gap. I thought the carbon fibers would be more trebly / mechanical. So I'm a bit shocked.
Thanks for your input. We’re you hearing any room rattling in this recording on the low notes of my background loop? Just checking. I am listening back in my car with a great sound system.
It's almost like you're going over to the dark side with these carbon fiber Emeralds Gairman. But the dark side ( in this case) sounds really bright...!?!?! Maybe I'm gonna have to change my theology. Great comparison but...I'm not tempted. The joy of the aesthetic /traditional look of a wood guitar shape etc. doesn't let me wonder too far from the Collings . Carbon Fiber, Plastic (Ovations) "unique" designs, strange headstocks (lack of?) all conspire against my audio sensibilities . Of course this proves my vanity but the cool guitars eg. Martin, Collings, Fender etc. , have no rivals imo . Wish I could say IMHO but that too proves a pride and narrow-mindedness I have a hard time letting go of. Thanks for helping me! Beautiful playing as always
In an odd way the X20 is the Goldilocks of the trio. Focused, articulate, and balanced. Nice instrumental version of a CCR song. 🎧
love the x20

Thank you for making this. Exactly which Cats are in each guitar? I think the jumbo is the bright kind and the dred is normal, no?
I don’t understand what you’re asking.

Ps; the Collings is absolutely superior for amplified acoustic tone.
@@gair1944 No, I didn't notice any 'room rattling' per se. But I was listening at like 3 in the morning, so not 100% critically listening :-)
awaiting demos of your carbon fibers acoustically!
I like the 🎉x30 fatter sound and a bit smooth
I'm looking at an Enya for a gigging workhorse CF guitar
Excellent playing and informative videos
Why you haven't got more subscribers I don't know

Says the guy who just bought a Formica/plastic laminate travel guitar 😅
You can’t however mistake the sound of a real acoustic guitar like the Collings
